Kudos to the Herald for running a story about the Parliament Protests that, for once, doesn’t follow the ‘anti-vax violent conspiracy theorist loonies‘ narrative that has been so heavily pushed by our media.

When Susan Denham stood in court after being arrested during the Parliament protests, she told the judge she was just a regular person.

“I’m not a criminal, I’m a regular person who just wants peace and normality.”

But within days of arriving in Wellington, this 41-year-old lady was arrested, taken into custody and charged with wilful trespass. Six months after her arrest, she was notified via email that her charge had been dropped.

She said hers was not an isolated example and many of those arrested alongside her have had their charges withdrawn.

In statistics provided to Open Justice by police, 160 people who were arrested between February 9 and March 4 have since had their charges withdrawn.

So from a total number of 253 people charged “in relation to protest activity”, 160 have since had their charges withdrawn. That’s well over half; in fact it’s getting on for two-thirds. Funny how you don’t hear about this whenever the protests are referred to in the media!

Denham, who was vaccinated before attending the protests, said a number of people at the protest had their own agendas, from conspiracy theorists or MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporters.

However, her cause was simple.

“For me, it wasn’t personal it wasn’t about the mandates… I went there for other people who couldn’t afford to lose their jobs.”

So she wasn’t an anti-vaxxer, contrary to the narrative we have been fed.

Refreshing to see a story in the Herald that doesn’t just follow the typical MSM narrative for once.

  So not so much a “river of filth” but well-meaning, principled people prepared to put their lives on hold to stand up for what’s right, and to speak truth to power.
  
  And they were rewarded with infantile behaviour from the worst Speaker in history and the full force of the state – which has now quietly dropped all charges against more than 60% of those arrested.
  
  It’s little wonder 11 police resigned in disgust at how the protestors were treated, and no you won’t read about that in the MSM.

    Loddenthinks – on my first day there I came across 8 or 9 people with T-shirts on sitting on steps down to the main camp. The T-shirts said they were former police officers, mandated out of their jobs.
    It was a pleasure to shake every one of their hands. Principled, decent human beings.

    You are following the fallacy of the excluded middle. The protestors were not a coherent body – not all anti-vax conspiracy theorists and not all protesting nobly and peacefully. It was a grab-bag of different causes.

      But the overwhelming majority were there originally to protest the mandates.
      
      But its OK milky, your tacit acknowledgement that you support forced medical experiments and the usurping of BoRA means you’ll be amongst the first when the revolution comes.

      The protestors were united in opposing the Government overreach on vaccine mandates and other rights and freedoms.
      
      As you say they were not politically unified – nor were they treated respectfully by any party in parliament – but that doesn’t mean they can be dismissed so readily. While your bias doesn’t allow you to acknowledge it, the numbers at parliament only represent a small number of the total who share the same concerns at the way the pandemic has been handled. To many of us it is immoral that people were forced to make the choice to take a medical treatment or lose their job. Time will tell where this concern and dissatisfaction will find a home.

      We started off with: “River of filth”.
      
      Then it gets pointed out that many people are certainly not filth and it becomes “well there was possibly some filth in there”, then diluted to “maybe there are a few cattle in the catchment area”.
      
      I suspect that if you took those people and compared them with a cross section of NZ population you would find them being less racist, less criminal and generally nicer people to be around than the general NZ population.

And have you noticed how bennies, mobsters, young labour rapists, general criminals, feckless and violent youth, get ‘wrap around support’ and cuddles, while a cross section of ordinary good bloke Kiwis (yes I was there…and being a former journo and current writer, I know how to engage and most certainly did) were described as a river of filth?

      Yes, there were various causes represented there, that will ALWAYS happen in a protest of that size.
      
      But the one thing they were united in was ending the mandates and passes and getting rid of the segregated society that Ardern deliberately created. And she sniggered when asked about it.
      
      “That’s what it is, so yip, yip.”
      
      Those who weren’t “protesting nobly” – (whatever the fuck that means) – were a tiny minority.

      So what ? Why did the PM who said she would ‘govern for every New Zealander’ refuse to meet with them. At least she could have offered to meet a delegation. But no, she shut herself off in her little tower surrounded by her cringing adherents and media fanboys.

    The article also talks about the number of police requiring counselling after the protests due to psychological issues. Can’t help thinking that most of this harm is created by knowing the stance you are enforcing is morally reprehensible.

      2021 vaxx campaign a low point for NZ. It exposed the useless, shameful and dishonest govt. The censorship, gas lighting, hatred, the easy termination of human rights. How quick they were to divide society.
      
      Many were forced into the injecting the warp speed jungle juice. Even when it was already apparent by the second half of 2021 to have failed in its stated purpose. Politically NZ will never recover. Just look at those clowns and all the cattle.

      On one morning when the police did their regular trick of stopping our access to the serving area, (just to make things difficult) – I managed to engage with a young officer.
      He was initially reluctant. Looking ahead, not looking me in the eye. Early 30s. I’m picking they were under instruction to stay distant.
      
      Anyway, I started by saying to him, ” you do know I really don’t want to be here? I’m over 60 years of age. I have a wife and young daughter. I live in a beautiful part of the country. This is the last place I want to be.”
      
      He asked me where I was from, when I told him he became quite animated and told me how he had awesome memories of a visit with his family when he was younger. I said, now can you understand why I really don’t want to be here and that I was doing it because I was really concerned about the direction Ardern was taking our country in. That I was devastated that people were being turned against each other deliberately.
      
      When the food access was finally permitted, I was going back to the vehicle and had to go around the concrete blocks. I had a co driver with me. I offered the young policeman my hand. He paused, but shook it.
      To my disbelief, he quietly said: “thank you for everything you are doing.”
      
      My co driver and I walked towards our vehicle in silence. He turned to me as we approached the van and said – “did he just say what I think he said?”
      I replied “I think he did, I’m sure he did.”
      
      It was one of the most uplifting moments during what was often a trying and distressing period.
      It is a 100% true story.

      My policeman mate from Te Anau wasn’t at the protest, but he assured me that the people there were troublemakers and trash. So I brought him up to speed. He insisted they were trash – so I said, well, I am trash too, then.

      I hope the policeman clearly filmed felling an old man with a punch is one day identified and charged. I won’t hold my breath but if the police force would like to reconnect with the public and distance themselves from Arderns regime it would be a good place to start.

    All this, and Mallard’s not in court for inciting riotous behaviour? As far as I know, if turning sprinklers on peaceful protesters and subjecting them to loud music to prevent sleep isn’t inciting riotous behavior, I don’t know what is.
    Surely, if Joe Blogs did this, he’d be up before the Beak eh?

      It was the direct plumbing into the mains under the street that sealed the fate of the protest. Had they not done that, the outcome might have been peaceful, and the protesters might be looked at in a better light now.

        It was obvious 10 days out that the tactic was going to be increase pressure, psychological, physical, tighten the noose and provoke some sort of reaction. The riot police were equipped and just waiting for the signal.
        Ardern was NEVER going to let this end with negotiations. She was NEVER going to let people think she gave in. It meant the only possible outcome had to be the forced expulsion, they had to create the circumstances and they did.
        
        The toilet block was neither here nor there in the scheme of things, other than a signal to Ardern that people weren’t going anywhere. That would have driven her nuts and she would have demanded the rabble be removed.

        Not only did the vaccine not stop people catching and spreading covid, its side effects also made many people quite sick, myself included. My Dr filed a CARM report for what it did to me and also while working through the various troubles it caused me advised me to make sure my affairs were in order given the nature of how it was effecting me.
        
        There are many stories like mine that the media are not allowed to repeat because it may create “vaccine hesitancy” which is a new crime we had to stop to protect Pfizer’s best interests.

        The other thing that gets me – the collateral damage to long standing vaccination programs for children. The MMR vaccine works and has a 50 year track record. Childhood vaccination rates have fallen. I suspect because many parents are now triggered when they hear “vaccine”.

        Having lived through the experience of multiple adverse reactions starting the same day as my second shot (and they then developed further over the next two weeks) and having had to fight with the Dr. to have it recorded as a vaccine side effect I now have no trust at all in other vaccines.
        
        As an example, I use to scoff at people who claimed autism was a vaccine side effect but after the battle I had to get the direct consequences of the covid vax acknowledged – I now wonder just how many other “modern” illnesses are caused by the plethora of other shots we are given through childhood and teenage years.
        
        My health may never be the same, I have friends who are now permanently on heart medication after the jab, my troubles were more new and exciting auto immune disorders. We really have no idea what the mRNA shots are doing to people but two things are certain – they are not stopping us catching covid and they are not stopping us getting really sick from covid when we catch it. Both these things were used to justify mandates. But why?

        burt, really sorry to hear about your vax-caused health issues. I have no idea of the efficacy of this I-Recover post-vaccine protocol, but I used their I-Prevent protocol and had very mild Covid symptoms.

        Ivermectin, which has potent anti-inflammatory properties, binds to the spike protein and aids in its elimination.
        
        Interesting, isn’t it, that the official medical advice is that it is a de-wormer or to treat parasitic infections.
        
        I’ve read elsewhere that it has other attributes but they’re never reported in NZ

      Nor digging or interfering with the grounds.
      
      I was there for half a day and thought it was well run and peaceful.
      I was very disapointed by the politicians esp ACT.
      Seymour had been doing well supporting our basic freedoms. Then he fcked it up completely.

  She spent a lot of time in custody for charges to simply be dropped and us not to be told why.
  
  So quite vague and then the story descends subtly into a description of how violent the protest was .
  
  ‘Her efforts were futile with protesters hurling bricks at police’
  “I could see in some people’s eyes that some could be violent” ( what a rare gift )
  
  ‘She didn’t condone the violence .’
  
  This leads very neatly , subtly even to the average thicker reader being directed to what is the actual , real purpose of the story as it concludes with 4 paragraphs giving details of numbers of injured and psychologically damaged police . The real victims you see .

I suspect most involved will heave a sigh of relief that they would not be subject to any more expense and stress.         Agreed CMM – how many lost cases would it take to highlight that the Police was heavy handed and unlawful? They lost the Winston Peters one.
        
        I would suggest 10-20 cases lost would start to look bad – especially in an election year.
        
        No much better to withdraw charges and start messaging that it’s to prevent unnecessary waste of time and resources.
        
        Police constantly tell us their job is to take the case demanded by the law. The judiciary are responsible for the outcome. So why not in this case – the most vile case of protesting ever in NZ history.

        peterwn – the Winston case I was referring to was the one related to the protests not the one you refer to from 7 years ago. You will recall the Trespass notice he was served by Trevor Mallard – the one that was found to be illegal and Mallard was required to apologise for but was too petty to do that so the new Speaker apologised instead. Not the case from 7 years ago where he alleged Nats etc had leaked his private superannuation information.
        
        So my point stands that for many of the protestors arrests the actions taken by the police were legally contentious and would have further damaged their and the Governments brands if they went on a big losing streak in the courts. They haven’t dropped all the cases to not waste resources so will continue to prosecute the cases that are clear cut.

      My opinion is the fish they didn’t want fried was their own arses .
      
      Innocent citizens protesters were pulled out of the peaceful crowd ( assaulted) and then unlawfully detained / kidnapped by the Crown / Crown agents , possibly acting under the instructions of the Speaker .
      
      Those people had a right to be there on that lawn.
      
      A right established in the courts following the arrest and charging of the likes of Mallard himself and Hipkins a few decades ago.
      
      How would the Establishment look when /if those protesters ran a defence along those lines and Te Media Pardy were forced to cover the proeedings ?
      
      Meanwhile the Crown had so much resources at its disposal it was assisting unlawful roadblocks run on race grounds in another part of the country.

      Ordinary people were sick and tired of having their lives disrupted. Bus services were disrupted and commuters faced a long walk from the station to the nearest temporary bus stop. Local businesses were being abused and intimidated. The bookshop in Rutherford House was forced out of business permanently causing students significant inconvenience – they have to Kelburn for their text books and course notes.
      The general public mood was for the nonsense to be terminated. When the Police did descend on the protesters, they allowed anyone who chose to leave to go peacefully.

        I mean seriously you would equate locals loss of convenience and disruption as more important than the right to protest for the right not to be coerced into a medical treatment without loss of a lifelong career, not being able to pay mortgage and losing your house.         In the 80’s when rural NZ was upset at the closure of hospitals in regional centres, the Labour health minister of the day travelled to protests and talked to large angry crowds. That was Helen Clark. I don’t like HC but admire her backbone to front her decisions.
        
        The blame for the parliamentary protest becoming entrenched lies with Jacinda et al. They passed heavy handed laws, didn’t bother to go and talk to NZers and hear their grievances. No instead they ignored them and rode roughshod over them until their only option was to take their voices to parliament grounds. Once there they were vilified and further ignored.
        
        Time to lay the blame for this where it fairly belongs!

  I attended the protest on day one and the third Wednesday. Had never protested before. It was a very large mixed bag of New Zealanders. The types you can depend on when things are heading south. The best that NZ can be. They were largely unified and cared for one another. At the time I was fully vaxxed. I was simply of the belief that dehumanization, segregation and persecution of our citizens didn’t belong in NZ. These were the very acts being perpetuated by our elected ruling classes gazing out of their windows. The very people we had elected to lead us. Their fully compliant opposition, and paid off media. And various other state apparatus.

A recent Australian defamation case has shown that blog and social media (including Kiwiblog) contributors need to be careful in what they say to avoid being accused of defamation. A Kiwi resident in NZ tweeted claiming that an Australian businessman was involved in stock ‘pump and dump’ schemes etc but did not have evidence to back his claims. The Australian court awarded the victim $A275000 damages but it will cost the Kiwi much more than that all up. What is worse the victim can apply to a NZ court to force the payment of damages and costs and all things equal would succeed.
Victim could well have tried to sue Twitter as well, but would have been up against Twitter’s large financial resources. But if that Kiwi had made similar claims on Kiwiblog it could have caused significant costs and difficulties to Kiwiblog and to mitigate these the contributor would have had to be thrown under a bus with Kiwiblog turning over the contributors ID details. So people need to be careful with what they say.

The good news is, that if a case is bought by a plaintiff, then they better be sure that the defendant actually doesn’t have the information!   Yes, the Iron Lady is the Falkland Islanders’ hero. The previous British Labour Government was about to give the Falklands to the Argies which would have been a complete disaster for the islanders since their lands would have been dispossessed and handed to cronies of Argentina’s leaders. The Governor of the Falklands (he was a Foreign Office staffer seconded to the job) took a deep interest in the Island’s affairs and persuaded Margaret Thatcher not to cede the islands to the Argies.         Commercial beer needs CO2 because of the way it is made.
        
        “Real” naturally made beer does not need extra CO2 because it is self-fizzing. The beer is made (venting off the CO2 into the atmosphere), then the live beer is bottled with a bit of sugar. The beer then makes more CO2 (and a wee bit more alcohol), fizzing up the beer. This also creates some dregs of dead yeast in the bottles.
        
        Commercial beer is different. It is normally pasteurised to kill the yeast before bottling. Thus it needs extra CO2 to fizz it.

    Highly economically valuable people that you want to reproduce will need a hell of a lot of bribing to make another baby.
    
    The low value people that you don’t want to reproduce are reproducing already. It’s called Africa.
    
    The only way to make this work is to encourage the high value people and discourage the low value people. If that is to be done with subsidies then that’s going to be hard. How do you sell a policy that gives a $500k subsidy to a high value person and little or no subsidy to a low value person?
    
    The real way to do this is to reduce taxation and remove welfare. Then the high value people will get more resources and the low value people will get less resources.
    
    Of course making those policies stick is a political challenge.

  We’re off grid, tank water from the roof. Our “go to” less than scientific method of whether we will get through the summer with enough water is, if the tank is full on Xmas day we generally have enough to get through until Easter.
  
  At Xmas it’s usually below half. It hasn’t been below 2/3 since last Easter and has been seen regularly overflowing for the last couple of months.

  The International Health Regulations Review Committee (IHRRC) of the World Health Organization (WHO) is planning to meet in secret from Monday, January 9, 2023 to Friday January 13, 2023. The IHRRC will be working to finalize what is now a 46 page document that includes proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR).
  
  This is essentially a sovereignty grab, one that binds current and future governments to respond in accordance with WHO directives. New Zealand did not submit any proposed amendments to these, be rather agreed with most of the Biden government’s proposed amendments.

  Ol, I was in a waiting room at the local hospital and there was a pregnant Muslim woman seated with her husband. When the male doctor appeared the woman went with her male partner so I presume a female must be accompanied by a male when the doctor is male. Most confusing.

  I looked at the rain radar and thought that we have gross exaggeration again. Certainly, Gisborne has only very light rain right now and the whole system is very diffuse which normally means there is little strength left in the cyclone.
  
  I doubt that we will have the huge damage that was experienced during the passage of Cyclone Bola.

      Almost 3 hrs. later, and rain still only light – supposed to increase around 4 pm. The wind according to Metservice is from the SE & 30 kmh. – but by observation & the rain radar, its more Easterly, but observing some N in it – more like ENE – but that is probably due to the land effect, and is still only light – around 15 KPH but the odd gust.

  Question: Why has MetService not included the pressure data that indicates a low sitting over the upper NI. Surely it can’t be that all the weather stations from BOI to Northshore are “wrong” reporting pressures < 1000 hPa which seems to indicate a new separate low has formed because it would contradict their (now non-existent Cyclone Hale) tracking model hype! Me think they maybe ignoring data in the hope that the exHale low and current new low merge so their 1:00 p.m. prediction becomes "right" and fits the narrative.

  Interestingly it’s only govt weather outfits and govt controlled media ( stuff n herald ) that call it a cyclone .
  All the other ones stopped reporting on it coz it had petered out and was harmless .
  60km/hr winds . 100mm rain PFFFFT . Big deal .
  The reason our govt media and weather mobs are going hysterical on it isn’t for clickbait ….. they hv been instructed to ramp up the climate fear by the govt , so the govt can charge more climate tax and also leverage more control over the public . They need public consent to shaft us , the only way is to create FEAR .

    I wonder whether it is realised that the media and NZ experts call Cyclones, and not as is it as ex Tropical Storms, puts our Insurance Premiums up because the International Wholesale Industry (Reinsurers) see that it is a Cyclone region and charge accordingly.

  There was constant rainfall in the North Rodney area from 11.30pm last night until 1.00pm today. There is flooding of the Whangaripo Valley (East of Wellsford) and land slips around Warkworth. Although the rain has eased since 1pm we are still experiencing heavy showers. The land is sodden (it hasn’t had a chance to dry out completely – over the past 11 months we’ve had nearly 2000 mm of rain) and large puddles have formed on our property again.
  
  The North is very green, and if farmers got 1 crop of hay this year they were doing well.

      AW, your comments above about the grass made me laugh. Half our property we mow (when we can), the other half have 4 legged biological digester, or it is wetland Bush.
      
      The part we mow, we finally got sort of under control after Christmas, then 4 days after New year it hosed day, Saturday was dry enough to allow us to mow it again on Sunday & since then Weare back to North Auckland bog clay. And the grass, it is laughing at us as it grows even faster in the humid/wet conditions. As above, I wish the grass and weeds would drown like one our fruit trees did!
      
      On the subject of experts, can someone give Chris Brandalino (the Yankee Chief Weather Scientist who works for NIWA a book of New Zealand weather data going back to 1960, because he talks rubbish). On Friday, he was trying to tell us that weather we are experiencing this summer is proof of climate change and that more southern parts of NZ must expect to suffer the sub tropical conditions that the North is experiencing this summer.
      
      First, what the North has experienced over the last 12 months and this summer is La Nina. This occurence happens every 7 to 10 years after periods of El Nino, over my life I can recall this occurrence occurring at least 5 times (I’m 61).
      
      Second, every late summer/autumn storms passing over Northern Queensland, or through the Torres Strait can develop into cyclones and they will follow paths over the Western Pacific Islands (including NZ). Usually by the time they reach NZ, they have lost much of their strength. These cyclones/storms will usually approach NZ from the north east and cut a path to the south west. These storms can be as early as December in the summer or as late as March/April wg the storm that hit Wellington in April 1968 & helped sink the Wahine or late March as in the case of Bola which hit in the 1980s hitting the East Coast and cut a trail all the way to Taranaki.
      
      My point is, these weather patterns are not unusual, and are not climate change.

Another book I have been reading this summer is “Turtles all the way down – vaccine science and myth” by Mary Holland.

The 1st chapter outlines the gold standards and ethics for the development of vaccines for children. Then goes on to analyse how eight of the most common types of vaccines measure up against these standards. From this fact base you start to get an understanding that the movement challenging the vaccine narrative are saying we are not well served by our regulatory bodies. The are not holding pharmaceutical companies accountable to meet the prescribed standards.

Instead of this being investigated or debated people seeking better accountability get labelled Anti-vaxers. Essentially slandered, dehumanised and written off.

  Thanks! I’ve previously flagged this book for a read. I was staunch pro-vax prior to Covid, but the global-scale malfeasance of Big Pharma, and the now obvious capture of the regulators has found me digging a bit deeper. And it’s a sewer down there. This is one of the best articles on these other vaccines: Why Do Vaccines Consistently Fail to Prevent Disease Transmission?. There is a entire section on how various vaccines are supposed to work, and evidence of their efficacy.

    Like you I generally trusted the medical system, felt it mostly had our best interests at heart, and the majority of medical people I know genuinely care about taking care of others. However, some issues with family members health had taught me that you need to trust your intuition and find the right advise when things aren’t right.
    
    Since the overreach on Covid, I’m red pilled and with suspicions aroused digging deeper becomes the norm. Covid has made for a massive questioning of the health system that most of us implicitly, unquestioningly trusted/put our faith in. It is important that we find ways to fix the broken parts of the system.

  As if we needed another collection of misguided antivax rants to add to the tainted literature that devotees eagerly devour.
  This one is enthusiastically promoted by longtime antivaccine campaigner Mary Holland, who wrote the preface. The book was written in 2019 but has been re-released in hopes of weaponizing antivax-inspired distrust of Covid-19 vaccines to weaken support for childhood vaccination in general.
  Written by “Anonymous” (now _there’s_ a trustworthy source), this book dives into typical antivax conspiracy-mongering by claiming that vaccine clinical studies are “rigged”, in part because they supposedly don’t include randomized blinded trials.
  Anonymous failed to note that there have been many such trials (you can find them by searching the free scientific literature database at PubMed, or checking out articles at Vaxopedia). So why does Anonymous misinform readers?
  Antivaxers like Anonymous can’t rationally explain why the incidence of so many infectious diseases plummeted after introduction of corresponding vaccines, so they make up outrageous nonsense. Example: the book tries to get us to believe that polio is caused by pesticides. Yet heavy use of pesticides the book blames (like DDT) continued years after polio incidence dropped dramatically (thanks to vaccination), and widespread worldwide use of pesticides has coincided with polio remaining at very low levels following extensive vaccination campaigns. Polio is caused entirely by poliovirus, but germ theory deniers who claim otherwise will believe any demented explanation that allows them to dismiss vaccine efficacy.
  There’s plenty more in “Turtles” straight out of the antivaccine playbook – bogus VAERS claims, the “10,000 vaccines” myth and other nonsensical arguments which have been debunked repeatedly but keep rearing up, zombie-like, both online and in similar books that have sunk into deserved obscurity.
  Weakening childhood vaccination means exposing kids to more outbreaks of serious and potentially deadly diseases, like measles and polio (currently posing increasing risks due to declining vaccination rates).
  Anonymous should come out of the woodwork to explain why he/she thinks this is a good idea.

  Maggie – I’ve been pretty sure for a few years now, they’ve done the old trick of diluting the active ingredients so the volume is the same but far less effective. Takes 5 times the volume to do the same job.

      Should add, I used it at work for cleaning before Spray painting or gluing ACM to trailer frames. Works well. Some other shit uses needs a mask carbon filter.

  Odorless Raid (blue can) is totally ineffectual, may as well use water, you can spray flies directly and they just fly straight through without noticing and continue buzzing around – I sprayed a blowie in my bedroom with a big dose of odorless and the thing was still flying around hours later.     Best ever was one we got from an Indian Supermarket called ‘Green Leaf Insect Spray’. Raj was telling me he’s no longer allowed to import it because some of the ingredients are now banned here.
    
    Got him to translate the label for us once. Instruction was….. ‘Before spraying dogs and children should be put outside’.
    
    Had a real strong chemical smell, but gee it was effective.

In recent years we have seen the citizens of many countries rise up against the tyranny and undemocratic practices of their leaders in a real confrontational way e.g Sri Lanka, France, Germany, Brazil, Capitol hill USA etc, even little NZ with the anti-mandate vaccine protests last year.

The WEF/ global elites who I believe are indirectly or directly responsible for the political and social turmoil throughout the western world are in for a big shock with what I call ‘peoples power’ fighting back.

  I agree with your assessment of Verrall but come from another angle on vaping. It is just another example of a lack of foresight leading to reactive political management.
  
  Release nicotine products into the market with no regulations, controls, and open slather on marketing.
  
  Surprise, surprise teenagers in droves take up this new addictive habit. Just talk to your local high school to see what a problem it is.
  
  If it was intended only to reduce existing tobacco smoking consumption then more proactive thinking should have gone into this.
  
  Maybe they think their popularity improves from crisis management, which leads to creating crisis to manage.

      And many other food plants, for example a cauliflower contains 16.8 ng/g of nicotine.

        It is ridiculous talking about nicotine levels in tomato.
        
        Tobacco has approx 12mg/g. That is 2 million times as much as is in tomatoes.
        
        To get a feel for the scale: compare the length of NZ to the length of your arm. That’s about the same.
        
        Vape juices go way higher than what is in cigarettes.
        
        Sure, vaping might not have tar in it, but it’s got a whole lot of other crap in there: glycols etc to make the “smoke” and all the flavouring agents etc.
        
        Perhaps the tar isn’t as bad. Perhaps it isn’t the evil it has been made out to be. After all, all wood smoke etc have tars in them and we have evolved through thousands of generations of living in smokey caves & huts.
        
        From my limited understanding, while the tars have negative impacts on the structures in your lungs the nicotine causes much of the damage in the heart etc. Just getting rid of the tars is only part of the problem.
        
        ie. those that have given up smoking by switching to vaping are likely fooling themselves somewhat.
        
        I am in no way promoting smoking, but I think it far too simplistic to say that anything that can substitute for smoking just must be better.

I was talking to a friend in the uk yesterday, she was waiting for a call back from 111, was advised if they couldn’t get back to her in that time an ambulance would be dispatched. I told her to just got to the emergency department, she said no point, 20 hour wait at her hospital, ambulances lined up out outside with patients dying in the ambulances. Talked to another friend, a person in her town called an ambulance with breathing difficulties, took 6 hours to get an ambulance.

I see Radio NZ has its Summer Programme schedule operating until Wgtn Anniversary Weekend, as is traditional. Regular hosts are all on leave & many programmes feature repackaged highlights from 2022.

By contrast, most private sector people I know are back at work this week. In part that’s due to school-age families needing to conserve leave to look after the kids during the school holidays.

Interestingly, many public service people remain on leave, in part because many seem to have a minimum of five weeks leave (or four weeks plus the Christmas-New Year departmental days that don’t count as annual leave usage). Parliament too remains in recess.

My conclusion is that Radio NZ remains aligned with its Wellington public sector listeners but is increasingly out of touch with the private sector that funds them.

Not a blinding revelation in itself, but a case in point.

  No most public servants in Wellington have five weeks leave plus the 3 days days between 25 December and 2 January that are bot public holidays. Therefore most Wellington public servants get 28 days annual leave.

  Exactly one year ago a stretch of SH87 from Outram to Middlemarch (Lee Stream to Nichols Rock section) was resurfaced. It is already disintegrating despite the very low traffic volumes on this highway. I’m not a roading specialist but it evident that the asphalt can’t handle summer temperatures and is melting and seeping through the surface compound creating series of potholes. And not just potholes as in some places the whole top part of the road surface is being stripped.

There has undoubtedly been a massive rise in “died suddenly” cases in the last 18 months. Unfortunately for the jabbers this is lining up perfectly with the jab rollout so of course there will be suspicion.
    I posted on it a few days ago. The number of cases is 20 times the average over the previous 30 years. They aren’t covid deaths. Something odd is happening and it should be enough to stop the jabs and investigate.

  I don’t begrudge the MPs the money they make. It’s a tough grind.
  Freezing their salary is the ultimate in virtual signaling.
  The lower the salary the more likelihood too many of the MPs will rely on a second income.
  In the good old days the MPs in the House of Commons weren’t paid at all resulting in members being wealthy land owners and the like.

Split coming between Green nirvanists and Maori separatists?

Activists are pushing for Maori to have rights to kill protected birds on conservation land – i.e., in national parks.

Conservation laws may be in for a shake-up to allow this, says an article on the web site of State radio (a.k.a. Radio NZ, Red Radio).

The article says a Department of Conservation report calls for an overhaul of Aotea’s [sic] conservation laws to have Maori at their heart. It describes this as a move away from “preservation and protection” to “maintenance, enhancement and sustainable use”.

As separatist policies go, this is up there with the police setting up special firearms training for Maori.

QUESTION :

Does someone in the govt hv family/mates running and / or in charge of the umbrella orgsanisatio of supermarkets ??

I first grew suspicious when the govt said we can only get food at supermarkets during covid , no butchers , fruit n veg , minimarts etc . Logic said spread the people out not cram them in . Seemed weird
The govt investigation into pricing and monopolies did nothing. , token gesture …. Hmmmm convenient
Now I’m sure somethings going on with the tobacco push to stiff dairies , a few suppliers only and of course supermarkets. This will be a massive gain for them as few locations means logically people will buy their baccy at the supermarket for convenience sake instead of driving all over the place to get it .
There are 300,000 odd smokers in Nz , still big bucks
So I ask myself this . Who gains ?

  FIRST Union has a Collective Agreement with Countdown that covers the workers in all 187 shops spread throughout NZ.
  
  Both Foodstuff Cooperatives’ operate an owner/operator model which means the Union has to negotiate the wages and conditions with each individual shop. Labour and Green MP’s are most likely on the best money they will ever get and are insulated from the impacts of their policies by a large salary plus perks. Best they don’t get any pay increase this year so they get a little more of an understanding of what it’s like to have high inflation and static wages. Their delivery performance certainly doesn’t justify a wage increase, it has been abysmal. Chris Luxon needs to come out and state they will reverse any proposed increase given the financial situation facing New Zealand this year.

CMM at 9.23 a.m. today made reference to Aesop’s fable “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”.
A copy of that fable must be delivered to the Meteorological Office.
My daughter on the Mahurangi Peninsula says the cyclonic winds were not as bad as that experienced several months ago. Predictions of severe weather conditions in the eastern Waikato have proved to be equally fatuous.
