Willie Jackson say’s the ship on public consultation over co-governance has sailed. What happened to Ardern’s promise to hold public consultation, after the multitude of Iwi, and/or Māori elite meetings across the country last year. Is it Ardern’s moving on a metaphor for ‘the ship has sailed’ and now there’s no need/intention to discuss 3/5 waters or He Puapua with the wider public.
The fact Labour don’t want these topics publicly discussed speaks volumes as to their agenda, and the true intent of the changes.
“Its sure way Māori will get “thrown under the bus, crushed and killed” is under a National-ACT government, Jackson says”. If a National or ACT politician, let alone a Minister of the Crown, was made such a statement all hell would break loose in the MSM.

    How have the voters of NZ let the state of our politics get to the shambles it is today?
    
    Voters supported the underqualified Adern despite 3 years of governance failure.
    
    Even Adern realized she had no chance of running a country so focused on the swelling of her bank account. punctuated by the odd reading of a script on the Tele.
    
    Now, emboldened by their success with Adern the Labour Party burdens us with a new party leader whose political career is ltttered with dishonesty, idealogy, mistakes, and an enormous social and monetary cost for NZ voters.

      What’s next is Govt debt running over $150B in a couple of weeks time.
      And then a massive budget spend in June as Labour tries to buy the election, or make National’s job to rein in spending almost impossible in 2024.

        If I was leading National, (and with Luxon’s lack of performance that’s a real possibility because there’s virtually no one in caucus with the balls to make the necessarily-demanded moves), I’d be making plans to declare a state of emergency when elected. With so many priority issues that’ll have to be firmly addressed: the economy, debt, crime, health, education, race matters, social matters, etc., there’ll be no room whatsoever for any diversions or distractions.
        Times are going to be incredibly difficult, the privations unbelievably enormous if the humungous task of putting the country back on the rails with our former commitments to the success and achievement of a single society are going to be at all possible.

        I agree if its possible for a newly elected PM to do so, but are the grounds sufficient?
        But there’s one thing that’s glaringly obvious: there is a slow motion coup d’etat going on by the radical Maori caucus, aided and abetted by the Labour party. With what Jackson, Morgan and their elite clique are saying really amounts to insurrection, so they can claim their own sovereignty over the country – and if that is allowed to occur by our complacent floppy middle ground voters, we will see massive emigration of people and capital, which will then see NZ descend into another PNG.

There was not much MSM coverage of what Willie presented to 72 hui of invited targeted Maori Elite, but their response over six months has so far taken Willie and his team over 9 months in attempting to knock it into some shape which Willie’s Cabinet colleagues may find acceptable.

So the consultation has not really been with all Maori, but the crème de la crème only.
Then Willie is watering down the Elite’s response.
So why in a conversation (that has sailed) are we not to know what Maori Elite really think or want?
Why does Willie not allow Waikato-Tainui’s Tukoroirangi Morgan let it all out in full, as Tuku was apt to do last weekend?

But despite Jacinda, Nanaia Mahuta, Hipkins and Willie having been in control of the narrative. albeit not in fact a full or un-edited Maori response.
David Seymour and Christopher Luxon are not selling “co-governance”
If the job so far of defining it, explaining it and advancing it has been a bit fucked up
that is Labour’s, and in particular Willie’s fault I’d have thought

      Ive been commenting occasionally on KB for a couple of years. Several times I’ve attracted the ire of people who disagree with my views, as I will disagree with them.
      
      I have also commented on Stuff, TDB & Interest, with similar reactions. However KB & Interest are the only sites which have always published my comments & have never banned me for opinions against their editorial line. That’s the difference between free speech and propaganda.

He accuses them in a Texas court of suppressing competition in the on-line news market thereby depriving people of vital information about matters of legitimate public

A Tale of Two Medias.

Feb 5, Luxon refers to NZ as ‘an Experiment’ in a speech, alluding to the fact that when this country was established as a single nation under the British Empire, it was done so in a way that treated it’s current inhabitants as equal to the British Settlers. The media loses it’s collective mind with accusations of Racism.

Feb 7. Willie Jackson, in an Interview, says “A sure way Māori will get “thrown under the bus, crushed and killed” is under a National-ACT government”. The mainstream media loses it’s voice?

Am I paranoid in thinking that there is a not insubstantial part of the New Zealand Media that is not only pushing the progressive line, but actively campaigning against National and Act?

It seems to me that the strategy of the Maori elite is to dominate New Zealand economically as much as politically.

The Maori economy is said to be worth $70 billion which is 20% of the total New Zealand economy at $350 billion. This is roughly the same proportion as the Maori population. As a simple person to me this means the average Maori has about as much wealth as the average New Zealander.

This raises the question of why are Maori so much poorer than the rest of us? If the profits from the Maori economy are not going to Maori people then where are they going?

The answer is that they are largely being reinvested in order to keep this low taxed, tax payer provided Ponzi scheme going. The goal being to have the economic clout to start bullying the nation. You can see it already working through the numbers of pakeha consultants who squeal support for cogovernance when they are not sucking on this teat.

The strategy of reinvesting has the added benefit of diverting money away from ordinary Maori stakeholders to deliberately keep them poor. Then they are another stick to keep beating whitey with to chisel more funds.

  I am pretty sure that the $70 billion is a measure of asset values, not revenue. The total amount of assets through settlements (current value), iwi trusts and land trusts would be around $70 billion. This would be around 3 to 4% of the value of productive assets of the NZ economy.

  At some point, we can but hope that someone in the media will ask Hipkins about his many policy failures, such as the fund for dairy owners which has only seen 63 applications approved, the budget blowout at Te Pukenga, which led to the CEO bailing, our appalling truancy rates, locking New Zealanders out of the country, and his claim that we would be “at the front of the queue” for COVID vaccines when the truth was we didn’t even know where the queue was! Back in 2020 the vaguest suggestion of an infection, nay an actual infection with a case fatality rate indistinguishable from a bad flu was enough to lock 5 million people in their homes, close business (some permanently), impair children’s education, and have police commissioners threatening nights in cells for the non-compliance.

Fast forward to today, and we have thousands of continuing excess deaths and there nothing.

Radio silence.

It’s like nothing has happened.

Why? Where are the honest attempts to get to the bottom of this? Were are the medical professionals who brayed endlessly about the need to lock down in order to save granny? Where are the politicians who preened their egos daily on national TV?

Cowards, charlatans and frauds the lot of them.

Never forget.

      I didn’t know who Bourla was so looked him up. Wikipedia describes him as ” a Greek-American veterinarian and the chairman and chief executive officer of Pfizer”. I kind of laughed that a veterinarian was CEO of Pfizer but then recalled a conversation with a farmer a few weeks ago about how he had just dosed all his cows for red eye and that it is Pfizer that makes it. Apparently Pfizer is the largest producer of veterinarian medicines and vaccines for animals. With all the problems Pfizer has had over the years with their medicines and vaccines in humans I’d hate to think what they have been pumping into the animals and meat that ends up on our plates.

    You mean the Maori people who, having signed the Treaty, continually breach it and have done so since not long after 1840. This is well documented.
    
    As I have said here before if they do not observe it, if the government of the day is not willing to enforce its conditions, the treaty should be abolished. In not observing the equal rights of all citizens it has, in effect, become invalid.
    
    Note that the Treaty of Waitangi Commission only ever considers breaches by the Crown.

    In my circle of friends at a friendly watering hole, no one mentions 3Waters or Co-Governance unless they’re prepared for a torrent of racist verbiage from another in the circle. There was a time when mentioning anything derogatory about Cindy also bought derision from a mate and his wife. She was the lead speaker and he had to agree or hot tongue and cold bum resulted.

      Many here will know I worked for a company that made trailers. Generator trails was one product. So the generator gets fitted to the trailer and the guy arrives to run it up.
      I watch. So he gets all the 3 phase output leads test pack. Checks the coolant level and connects the batteries and fires it up.
      About 3 minutes he kills it – too hot. So I go and pull the oil dipstick, and it has no oil.
      Wonder why it got hot? Don’t know what happened after it left the yard.
      Simple mistake for a Generator commision.

    It was the Felicity Ace, and a faulty EV battery is almost certainly the cause. Porsche lost 1100 cars, and Bentley lost 189. All up 3828 cars were lost, and since then ferry companies have started banning EVs.

I happened to see this word soup article on truancy on RNZ. First question, what is taki, I tried to translate but only came up with
“check” so makes no sense. Was it some weird spelling mistake? Is it meant to mean problem, if so why not say that, why insert this word and not any others. It’s ironic that an article about getting kids back to school to learn and communicate etc is actually incomprehensible. Answer provided states that – ‘choking’ during sex is on the rise.
Reference is provided to a 2021 study of university students in the US, which showed that over a quarter of the women experienced being choked in a recent sexual encounter.

Even a relatively brief glance at the associated tables, convinced me I was glad I wasn’t on any recent jury considering this topic.
I had no idea it was anywhere near this common and said to be becoming increasingly so.
Or, that half of the women participating stated that they enjoyed it.
How do a jury, that may we be ignorant of the behaviour being tried, make a reasoned, scientific decision?

    It is the ability to provide the jury with a deep enough understanding that worries me.
    From the US study it seems that the trend involves those largely at present teenagers and early twenties.
    It suggests that different outcomes for Graduates and Undergraduates may highlight how recent the trend is.
    Also suggests that it is a very difficult area to study because of the dangers that may be involved.
    The problem I have, is that in a court case, the age of the jury members may be the major factor in the knowledge of the practice and the verdict.

  This has been around for a while.
  It makes an interesting case re consent as if a guy starts choking a woman (without prior consent), she has the right to remove consent (obviously) but isn’t in a position to convey that fact (because she’s being choked by a guy that’s lying on top of her). A reasonable person would argue that most women, at an unexpected complete loss of control would immediately rescind consent and it is therefore rape.
  
  Kobe Bryant (American Basketballer) was guilty of this but he paid her off and it never went to court. He didn’t even realise it was an issue and just said to the cops that “it’s what I do”.

Statistically, the people who’s lives were “saved” have now died of old age (or one of the other co-morbidities they had).
On the other hand, thousands of lives were ruined due to lockdowns.

Similarly, the chief architect of this disaster is gone but the young people who voted for her are left with a lifetime of debt to pay off.

    Much closer to normal.
    
    The vast majority of the people that were “saved” were people in the last few months of their life due to to comorbidities.
    
    Instead of having a high quality end to their lives (visiting family and watching their grand kids thriving), they were locked away in solitary confinement.
    
    What a disgusting thing to do to people.
    
    And we haven’t even considered the unintended consequences – the tens of thousands of people who had medical tests etc delayed for months – many of them losing years off their lives.

Councils representing over a million New Zealanders are calling on the new PM to take a fresh look at a model for water reform that works.
The member councils of Communities 4 Local Democracy (C4LC) said with signalling a review of the policy agenda, PM Chris Hipkins has an opportunity to deliver on Government aims for three waters, in a manner that would bring communities with him.
Manawatu District Mayor Helen Worboys said that councils had been trying to work for positive reform over the past few years to no avail.
“The detailed proposals we’ve brought to the table enable Government to deliver on all its aims, create opportunities for strong and lasting partnerships and deliver safe, sustainable and affordable water services to all New Zealanders,” she said.

In Newshub, “Paddy Gower hits out at banks’ “insane profits” according to a headline. All he wants to publicise is the absolute dollar value of their profits. Does he know what ROE (return on equity) means, or even ROA (return on assets)? Has he bothered to investigate? Our local (including Australian banks) garner ROE in the 7-10% range. their ROA is between 0.5 and 0.8%, yes, under 1%.
Similar data for international corporations shows ROE in the same ballpark and higher. This info is readily available through Google.
Is this yet another piece of ill informed headline garnering, rather than useful reporting or, dare I say, journalism, although there is not a lot of that about these days.

Has anyone watched the AM show lately? I did yesterday. They’ve got that angry maori woman with the moko doing the news reading since Bernadine Oliver-Kirby is on sick leave. I remember when Oliver-Kirby was there there was always a lot of easy going banter about topics with Oliver-Kirby joining in with her view.

I noticed the maori woman just sits there and grins and laughs and Bridge and Chan-Green have to do all the talking. Must be hell of a hard work for those two when the third wheel just sits there.

You’d have to be so careful. wouldn’t you with your words with her sitting there and what is going on in NZ with regards to crime these days.

Was interesting as they covered the videoing of the supermarket theft at Papakura Countdown. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out what the profile of those thieves were. I was interested to see what the maori newsreader would say about it. She just sat there and said nothing. Not trying to be racial but her upbringing must be worlds apart from the other two. Also you’d have to be an activist to go and have a moko done. Don’t know what TV3 are thinking. Maybe it’s the covid relief slush fund in play?

I used to love that show, now with the fairly inane weather guy, William Wairua, and now the activist newsreader, it’s just a bridge too far and I only watch it very occasionally. Such a waste of Bridge’s talent to be stuck in that situation.

Once core funding is sorted for bike lanes, cultural programmes and council headcount, then there is never enough for luxuries like storm water or road maintenance.
“You can either accept the 15% rates increase or we can cut back on fixing potholes. You decide”.

We, the voters, have trained our politicians to act this way. Councilors know they will make headlines paying $1 million for consultants, but spending $2 million on council staff will be invisible.
