  I see Labour are using Pidgin TV ads to try and get Maori to enroll and vote. No doubt when they enroll they will be given “instructions” as to which Parties they must vote for.
  I wonder what bribes are being used. I dont KFC or McDonalds will cut it. Labour are probably buying hard drugs from the Mob and dishing these out. I wouldnt be at all surprised such is their desperation .

Thanks ‘James’ for your OIA initiative requesting numbers of police forensic accountants. The number has doubled under the current government, and that is one group where a big increase is a good thing.

Meanwhile bank scams are burgeoning, and the UK is bringing in new regs that will force banks to reimburse defrauded customers. Appears not all customers will be covered, but many more than currently.

Bank scams are increasingly being reported in New Zealand, and also in Australia. The Australian Investments and Securities Commission recently published Scam prevention, detection and response by the four major banks . Useful info, probably similar here, and a clear intention that banks step up and reimburse a lot more than currently.

Likely New Zealand will follow their lead and the cost will be considerable.

Some one has to pay. I’m picking that will be all bank customers, and not a trivial amount.

  Unfortunately if you look around the world there doesn’t seem to be many options for sanity. Australia, USA and UK are are mess.
  
  Unfortunately the countries with the most normality at the moment seem to be mono cultural societies like Japan who didn’t embrace mass immigration, diversity agendas etc and just stuck to doing their own thing.

      Gdp growth expected to be 1.5% for 2023.
      
      Just over half the covid cases and deaths per million than NZ.
      
      People there are respectful and things run on time and get fixed.
      
      They never panicked over covid and simply refused to take actions that they knew would ruin their economy.
      
      Plus, none of the Japanese I know would think for a second that women have penises.

        I just wish we did two things Japan did – educate to near 100% literacy (2 phonetic scripts and 1000 or so pictograms) and numeracy, and open their borders only to people who will work hard and integrate. Citizenship is very closely guarded and almost impossible to get. Non-citizens can be deported any time, very little or no redress.

      Ummm… Sinagapore is a powder keg held together by quite strict rules around ethnic and religious activities. Its split in 3 major parts: Chinese, Indian, Malay – with Christianity, traditional Chinese religion, Hindu and Islam all check by jowl…
      
      They have strict limits on when religious festivals/parades can happen and where to stop things going off…

Happy Matariki, mike. Everyone out planting kumaras? Staying in bed? Our retirement village owner, Arvida, very kindly sent us an explanatory booklet. A trend, I think, so I look forward to their booklet on ANZAC Day, King’s Birthday and, best of all, Easter and Christmas. The one Maori in our village thinks Matariki is just an excuse for a day off. I couldn’t possibly comment.

That Gloriavale decision is a travesty. The people there live the life they choose, and when they choose not to live communally then they leave. To call it slavery demeans real slaves.

The problem is that broader society struggles with the notion that people can live other than pursuing a capitalist lifestyle.

But if you’re a “slave” to God rather than to material, then that’s bad for business.   It’s the kind of woke decision you’d expect in a woke age. It has all kinds of implications for voluntary relationships, improperly capturing them under law.
  
  How’s this any different than a stay-at-home wife/mother claiming she was an unpaid “employee” for 30 years, required to do certain jobs, without any protection from employment law?
  
  This community is entitled to operate as it sees fit. I think they’re all religious nutters but as long as there’s no actual abuse taking place, leave them alone.

    It’s a bit more nuanced than that. Girls are raised and educated there. Apparently something between 80 and 90% of their NCEA credits are in cooking and sewing. By the time they are old enough to choose, they are going to have a hard time adapting to a more normal lifestyle.
    Having said that, this upbringing would be vastly preferable to being raised in the gangs – and we choose to do SFA about that problem!

      You could say that about any doctrinaire upbringing. Hell, you could say that about modern public education with its undoubted ideological bias. What chance does a kid have by the time they leave high school to have a non-woke view of the world?
      
      It seems to me that despite protestations to the contrary the court, to a great degree, did in fact use this decision to attack the lifestyle these people choose to live.

  Perhaps that applied in the 1970s, when adults chose to follow Neville Cooper, but now with 3-4 generations of women and children financially bonded to Gloriavale, it cannot apply.
  
  Gloriavale has thrived on the unpaid labour of women and young children and the generous family support Government handouts that go into the coffers of the ruling Shepherds.

    It’s an unusual life, in this day & age, and not for everyone. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but to describe it as slavery is taking the piss.

      Yes, I know some men at Gloriavale work hard; but some men in that community insist that women and children must obey them.
      
      Hence, multiple complaints of females being groped, sexually abused, and punished by men at Gloriavale.

  I looked into buying some and it’s the most draconian non user friendly ticketing site I’ve ever been to
  
  Before you can even look at what games, tickets and prices are available you need to go through three separate signup pages collecting what seems to be a whole lot of unnecessary information including what looks like some international banking details.
  
  Once into the site you can’t see where you would be sitting apart from “category” of tickets which for category 1 is all of North and South stands at Eden Park.
  
  They shouldn’t blame men. They should blame FIFA

  Groan, and therefore the threat to normal cricket, test and provincial, becomes greater as the money to pay women has to come from somewhere. And it won’t be covered by women’s international competitions, since no one watches them. Therefore, it stands to reason that payments to men will go down to subsidise women. And men, if they are any good, will then make the simple decision to play IPL and other leagues around the world where they can command higher pay.

  No shutdown for us self employed. In the office today, working to pay taxes for Grant to waste. When I started my business 10 years ago, having no staff was a central part of it. A decision I have never regretted. I don’t think it even cost growth, certainly didn’t affect profits over that time. Yesterday I witnessed the weirdest mask use when a woman who I saw in a major store shopping returned to her car minus any mask. We both returned to our vehicles and as I was about to leave the carpark I noticed she was donning a face mask. My wife, who I admit was once a Covid scare follower, burst into laughter at this woman’s inanity. And this woman presumably votes.

This 19 year old was on bail, then home detention, committed two further car thefts and ram raids and was sentenced to…………………. more home detention. We need a change of government and a major change in attitude. The judge said that the community was fed up and she’s right. I’d send him for a week’s rehab in Singapore.

  I actually disagree. That judge said “these offences have a maximum 10 year term”. So there’s plenty of scope for judges.
  
  The real question is why judges are applying such steep discounts without applying any aggravating factors to balance it out.
  
  Multiple offences, weapons, carelessness over how much damage they cause, 4 against 1, are all reasons to not discount.
  
  Compare that to the judge who put a citizen in the cells all day because they didn’t want to do jury duty

    If Matariki was an age-old and/or widespread traditional Maori celebration, there would be numerous records of it taking place in the journals and other writings made in New Zealand in the 19th Century.
    Maori (and non-Maori) academics in the last century would have understood the importance of cataloging ethnic culture now that they had English and a system of academic writing. They would have recorded all aspects of Maori culture and practices they had access to, to record these for posterity.
    If we can find no record of Matariki lore in the literature of the 19th and 20th Century scholars, then it is possible that no such tradition exists and that it is a modern political fabrication.

    I expected the reference to the “Foreign Legion” in the context of rioting mobs was going to be a clip of immigrants recently going nuts and burning and otherwise destroying their “home” France. It’s somewhat ironic that the “liberté, égalité, fraternité” brought in by the overthrow of the Catholic monarchy in 1789 is why France and Europe is now full of culturally enriching third worlders, something that would never have happened under the European monarchs.

        We have suffiecient knowledge to establish an approximate date of the arrival of the Fleet canoes. If Maori were serious about a holiday to celebrate things Maori, I would go along with a date established by consensus for the arrival of the fleet canoes – it would have been at a time when the currents and winds favoured a journey in the South-west direction from Hawaiki, or Rarotonga where the Takatimu canoe left from. Probably around Feb/Mar 1290 AD. But that’s just my guess.

      What the Luxon haters (i.e., labour or act supporters) don’t tell us is that hipkins favourability rankings are terrible for a sitting pm and Luxons favourability is historically very good for an opposition leader.
      
      Luxon’s intelligence and management pedigree has built the foundation for a landslide electoral win in October.
      
      Luxon will take the same approach in government. He’ll quietly fix NZ from the bottom up, putting the right talent into ministerial jobs (there are plenty of quality National candidates attracted by Luxon) , Luxon will set all ministers stretch goals (you can see Nationals policy goals on their web already) then he’ll put the measures, reporting and structures in place to help ministers achieve their goals.

        Here are a few reasons I will be voting luxon?
        
        1. luxon understands that fightng the tide of anthropogenic climate disaster is a lose lose. He would be mercilessly attacked by the despicable NZ media and the labour spin doctors.
        
        2 Luxon has cleverly managed the climate fraud by changing the carbon equation to include nzs hitherto uncounted carbon sequestration (wetlands and the sea, etc.)
        
        3 Luxon has used climate change to usher in genetically modified pasture without so much as a whimper from the despicable NZ media (hell redbaiter I haven’t even seen you cricize luxon’s master stroke to improve nzs primary productivity).
        
        5. There is nothing wrong with electrification. It reduces pollution and reduces NZs reliance on oil producing despots. As long as the transition is managed affordably (NZs ETS is a clever scheme which allows industry to reduce pollution using the most efficient means in a realistic time frame.)

  Some going to the pigs. Is this because the kids have their own lunch, or just do not want a school lunch? The latter imo.
  Who remembers swapping sandwiches at lunchtime – so you get a variation?

    Quite frankly the principals should be taking some responsibility. If they are consistently seeing 100 boxed lunches (how much plastic in that?) thrown out each day, how about calling the supplier and saying “bring 90 fewer”?
    
    Mind you the supplier is probably paid to make 20,000 lunch boxes, and if they didn’t we’d never know and they’d pocket the money anyway. Surprised a Mahuta or Henari isn’t on to that

        OK Ian Boag. If my kids are paying for it, what did all of the previous Governments do with my 58 years of Tax? Remembering that Tax is proportional. I think I started on about $1.55 an hour. Rent was say $15, food was about $15, power was cheap, petrol was cheap. 6 large (quart size) bottles of beer was a couple of bucks.

    Well, perhaps it is Steve, but here’s an interesting press release from John Key in 2007, (he was in opposition) headed up National launches its Food in Schools programme.
    
    Whereas vote buying may indeed be part of it, the real issue is the erosion of family responsibility at the hands of an ever intrusive state. Marxist school teachers subsuming the roll of conservative parents.
    
    Key and National have never seemed to understand or care about this.
    
    Conservative NZ parents have been sending their kids each day to be indoctrinated by their enemies. Its why in NZ today there is massive division between young and old. Kids have been cleaved from their parents by the socialist state and have little in common with them socially and politically.

      “Cleaved” Interesting term. Part of that cleaving is Fatherless homes. Candace Owens (Turning Point USA) writes and talks about it. The same in NZ. Labour don’t want fathers in the homes. Labour want them dependent.
      Luxon is still leaning to the left but not so bad now. When he first became Opposition Leader he was almost welded to Labour. I think all of National need to grow up real fast.

  This bs about kids not being able to work without lunch is just rubbish.
  I could count on two hands the number of times I had breakfast or lunch in my 5 years at high school. Had a bus to catch at 7am so first meal was 430pm when I got home. My parents were self employed and didn’t have time to make lunches and frankly we were quite capable just couldn’t be bothered.
  Still got top in NZ in calculus in my 7 th form year.

It’s not the role of the Police to tell the media who they have locked up, unless it is a case where they have already published the name of the person they’re seeking, e.g. the Nomad gang member accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her captive for three weeks.

So the judge finally says public are sick of ram raids.
“The public are fed up with it, the police are fed up with it … and people want tougher penalties for this type of crime.”
” At the time the man, then 18, was on bail after he was charged with an aggravated robbery, for which he was sentenced in September to home detention.”
There’s the problem – he was out on bail so carried on committing crimes.
“Judge Cassidy arrived at an end sentence of 14 months in prison.”
Judge said maximum sentence 10 years.
” however, Judge Cassidy sentenced the teen to seven months’ home detention. He was also granted name suppression.”
So once again, he is out in the community on home D, and will be able to carry on ram raiding!
Some judges need to be removed.

        Counterfactuals are always difficult, but we’ve had American global dominance for at least those 80 years, and look what we’ve got: multiculturalism, transgenderism, post-nationalism, licentiousness of all kinds, social decay and so on. Conversely, both the Germans and the Japanese were very advanced and traditional cultures, although both have become US vassal states with little true autonomy since their defeat. The argument that, had the Axis powers won then life would have taken a turn for the worse, doesn’t hold as much water as it did in 1945 or the following few decades.     (1) Orr has the power to “declare money into existence” with his “Enter any number you like!” ledger at the Reserve Bank.

Maori had not developed any metal, nor the wheel nor any kind of written language, so it is tempting to describe them as less sophisticated than say the English of the time.   I don’t have angst about it. But my reservations are based on it celebrating a combination of Maori mythology and indigenous knowledge pretending to be comparable to science.
  
  As I said elsewhere on GD, a new public holiday could have celebrated New Zealanders who advanced science. We could have had “Rutherford Day”. Think about the benefits to New Zealand children if there were events all over the country celebrating famous post enlightenment scientists. The benefits of such a National holiday would be immense. Indeed New Zealand would have attracted global praise if it had gone down this course.
  
  So Chris Luxon, abolish Labour Day and introduce “Rutherford Day”.

Just got a political survey, things the labour government could do to ease the cost of living

Change industrial laws so it’s easier for workers to negotiate pay rises
Make childcare cheaper
Increase the minimum wage
Cut income taxes
Reduce fuel excise tax
Cap prices for electricity and gas

Measures they could take for affordable housing

Cap the number of investment properties someone can own
Place a freeze or a cap on rental increases
Cap immigrant numbers until we have sufficient affordable housing
Place further restrictions on foreign investment in residential property in New Zealand

Tax measures for affordable housing

When someone sells an investment property for more than they bought it for, taxing their profit
Prevent wealthy families from using family trusts to split their assets to minimise tax
Only allow people to claim negative gearing tax concessions on one investment property
Remove all negative gearing tax concessions on investment properties

Think you would be far better shifting your allegiance to the Greens or Labour Mark. As for your enumerated explanation, no 1 is another reason I could not ever vote for the Luxon/Willis version of National.

As for the other three items (2-5, what happened to 4?) You appear not to realise the scientific/ mathematical implications of reducing NZ’s carbon emissions to 50% by 2030 or 100% by 2050.

It means NZ must cut emissions by 29 million tonnes (pa) by 2030 and 60 million by 2050. This means a catastrophic change in NZ’s economic condition and there is no possible way social good fortune can exist under such massive cuts to energy production, transport, standard of living etc etc etc.

Many scientific bodies say the targets are impossible to meet anyway.

The measures you example in respect of agricultural emissions are just a drop in the ocean by comparison to what is required in total. Just arrant nonsense really.

National say they’re targeting a polling level of 45%. They will never make it because they’re tailoring their polices to appeal to the left who will never vote for them, whilst simultaneously alienating their traditional support base.

Sorry, but National’s whole election strategy is just completely clueless.

Let’s beat the bastard a at their own game .

We hv to indoctrinate the kids first .
Get education back to basics , drive the self determination angle , bring back exams , actual writing maths English and science ……. And allow risk in the playground and peanut butter sangas .
If your kid is that pathetic that they can’t handle a playground without pads or someone else’s sandwich then for the love of decency , let them suffer for the greater good .

Start churning out intelligent , capable , critical , free thinkers who can apply a broad education into any field they choose .

Re write the current history programme , bring back banned books , and BAN any student protests . Kids protesting during school hours compulsory 1 month suspension .

Failure to turn up means the child is stood down , set a baseline of 90% and expelled . Make it the parents problem

Finally , get rid of participation awards , winners and losers , that’s life , get used to it at a young age .

Pay particular attention to the to the paragraph :
