Lloyd Burr and the Labour Party have very short memories and many of their sleaze MPs including Finance Minister Grant Robertson didn’t worry about Simon Bridges when he was opposition leader or his Mental Health in Labours first term of Government.
As the old saying goes if it’s to hot in the Kitchen get out and that exactly what Kiri Allen has done whether you like it or not, so for Lloyd Burr to call out David Seymour I find it a bit rich especially coming from someone that pens sleaze and bias columns about the right in Politics every time he gets a chance.
So his question of what was” David Seymour thinking with calling for a urgent debate over Kiri Allen’s resignation “?
It was a Parliamentry stunt that backfiredand made him look Heartless, Unempathetic and even a cruel political operative.
So it took a complaint from Grant Robertson for the Speaker to tell Seymour that he had strayed to far from the topic.
The damage had already been done though as he saw Kiri Allan’s disintegration as a means to a political end and went for it.

I always thought the media and their Journalists were supposed to be neutral when it came to their own views , but apparently their own opinion maters more than anyone else nowadays.

  It amazes me the tone of the Kiri Allen coverage. It’s very empathic and sympathetic and deferring to her as a woman and is there enough support for wahine in parliament?
  
  When the actual reality is the minister of justice was arrested! And resisted arrest! After crashing her car!
  
  Imagine if this was a national MP like Ufindell? What a pile on it would have been.
  
  David Seymour is quite right. This is a huge scandal and shows the utter depths to which this government has plumetted.

  Just like the House had an urgent debate on the last two Labour Ministers to be sacked – Stuart Nash and Michael FIGJAM Wood.
  
  The wets wailed “but they were different circumstances” to which Seymour correctly pointed out that Nash had breached Cabinet rules and divulged confidential information to donors and supporters, Wood had failed to declare or correct numerous conflicts of interest, over a long period of time, and Allan was the Justice Minister arrested for careless driving, failing to accompany the Police, and given a fine for driving drunk. If anything, Allan’s was the most egregious failure and the circumstances and fallout are absolutely appropriate to be debated in the House.

    They peddled the Gulf Stream reversal bs about a decade ago. Still waiting. Recycled nudge hysteria. They are neglecting to mention how they are measuring ground temperature in Europe at the moment rather than air temperature or that the wildfires in Rhodes weren’t that wild as they have been proved to be arson. Funny how the fires only seem to occur in Europe and North America rather than countries around the Black Sea or India why it’s almost as if it were some foul conspiracy to frighten people but that would be ridiculous just as silly as saying that the pandemic was the result of a gain of function lab leak.     The AMOC is weakening, that has been observed for many years and no disagreement on that fact. When it comes to when and under what conditions it collapses are still unclear and debated. Though, the long-term weakening trend being anthropogenic is settled.

      Nope, attribution with limited data is not possible empirically. The noise in the base signal is too great. In model world attribution can be done, but even then they fail to even be able to replicate the past, particularly at regional scales.

        Hausfather et al didn’t use hindcasting they compared earlier projections to out comes. On that are you aware IPCC AR6 put aside the use of some of the Climate models because they ran too hot?
        
        In terms of to test by hindcasting what you do is develop a model without information from the recent past (hold out that information), and then see how well the models estimate the known held out observations.
        
        The important point re modelling here is this study relies on regional modelling and the IPCC has consistently warned about GCMs being unreliable in regional modelling.
        
        None of which touches on the attribution issue.

  Warming oceans release more Co2 rather than absorb more.
  
  Even if it wasn’t a crock oceans at worst would head towards slightly less alkaline (IE slightly closer to neutral), not acid.

  I saw one chap on Twitter (not sure if he’s a TPM, Labour or Green supporter, he’s been in agreement with all three) saying that of course, Maori should be getting preferential medical treatment because once you account for all other variables, Maori simply have worse health outcomes because they are Maori (i.e. genetics).
  I was astounded as his argument was basically you’re racist if you think Maori are not genetically inferior. And don’t deserve special treatment because of it.
  
  It’s even worse than the racism of low expectations the Left has (along with their racist “Noble Savage” viewpoint).

    Longevity is highly linked to genetics. Eg if mum and dad live past 90 then their daughters are 40% more likely to live past 90 than average.
    
    Among warring hunter gatherers, like Polynesians, an average of several % per year died in war and almost none lived to 60, so evolution didn’t care about longevity after middle age, it conferred no advantage. It did care about having lots of babies and maturing young to rapidly expand into openings created by exploration and population lost to war or famine (R-type environments are frequently not resource limited, and are governed by their biotic potential maximum reproductive capacity, R).
    
    This is in stark contrast to highly competitive K-type environments that typify complex trading, metal using, agrarian civilisations – resource limited with stable conditions (little war) and no room to grow numbers – so evolution sees more value in longevity and intelligence to accumulate skills and resources and compete against others economically with strategic decision making and effort. The continued support of successful grandparents in support of child-rearing was a strong reproductive advantage.
    
    So clearly we should expect, as is confirmed by data, that people whose genetic heritage derives from regions that have experienced 1000’s of generations of R-type hunter-gatherer conditions to (on average) mature and die younger, with less genetic selection pressure for intelligence and work ethic and more on physicality and martial skill, and from more recent K-type (last few 1000 years since rise of civilisation) to mature and die older with more genetic selection pressure for intelligence and work ethic and less on physicality and martial skills.

  That’s where everyone is getting confused. It’s not so much a Māori supremacist movement but more of a White supremacist movement. I realise that will get a lot of heckles up so let me explain.
  
  Basically, the modern woke mindset is that Māori are inferior. The difference between this and a classic Nazi style movement, is that they don’t want to wipe out the inferior race. They want to virtue signal and show the world how kind and superior they are. You see, they aren’t “bad” racists. They’re “good” racists, which makes it all OK.

Tauranga, which has a chronic housing shortage, has designated land for the construction of 22,000 new homes. However no houses can be built on that land until after 2050 as the central government won’t build roads to allow access to the land until then.
We don’t need the government to build houses for us. We can build our own houses thank you very much. But we absolutely depend on the government to build infrastructure, and the current government doesn’t like roads and just won’t do it.

  This sounds fishy. There’s one thing for sure: if there’s consented land for 22k homes (a miracle in itself) the developers themselves would build the roads because as a percentage of the cost of land and building costs roading infrastructure to the development would be a small component.

What sickens me is how the mental health card is played as a “get out of jail” card. Facts of the matter – Allen got drunk. got in a car and crashed then resisted police conducting their business. Allan for the record is the only one on the left that has owned up and accepted her behaviour.

Otherwise the rest of the left have thrown the mental health ticket out there as an attempt to close the argument.

Robertson in particular given his own odorous behaviour in the debating chamber had the gall to attempt to gain the moral high ground.

  Mental health issues need to be taken seriously. However they should never be waved around as a get-out-of-jail-free card for bad behaviour (they can explain the bad behaviour, but should never be the excuse).

    Which probably tells you the nature of the issue. Her behaviour is so far from normal, especially for a Cabinet Minister, that she clearly has deeper issues. She has not denied what happened, rather the mental health issues are the reason why it happened.
    I am surprised that some people can’t accept the pretty obvious reasons for her behaviour.
    It is not being used an excuse, but rather it is an explanation.
    An unfortunate end to her role as a parliamentarian. It won’t be easy for her to regain a sense of normality. She should be given some level of understanding of her need to do so. I would have thought common humanity requires that.

    Her boss failed her by not making sure she was fit to return to work with high pressure portfolios. But working with mental health and being treated for it is not a reason to be stood down, not getting help or not coping, or not having the tools to deal with it is.

      Hipkins is a politician, not a medical doctor, or a psychologist.
      
      He believed what he was told by Kiri Allan.
      
      I doubt Hipkins has a clue as to the mental state of any of his colleagues..and that’s pretty much the way most of us operate…. We really don’t know how mentally well our colleagues, friends and relations are on any one day.
      
      I also suspect there’s other folks in the Labour caucus/ Wellington Scene who know a damn sight more about Sunday’s car crash than Chris Hipkins does.

        Rubbish, as her boss he should have made sure she was fit to work by supplying medical evidence that she was. He doesn’t need to have medical knowledge to have her medically signed off. This is a woman who took mental health leave, to not require a medical sign off is failing your staff no matter what the occupation

        Correct Maggy however having been on “Mental Health Leave” maybe a bit more querying as to her self proclaimed status by someone independent at arms length before a return to high intensity work might have been prudent.
        There were two separate leaves indicating possibly a higher need unless,what was released publicly was a BS screen and it was not actual medical leave only political. That is an intolerable misuse of the now more common practice in the workplace, maybe a medical assessment perhaps.

        I agree with Maggy Wassilieff’s first opinion here. Any sympathetic doctor is likely to provide an opinion that someone is mentally fit to resume work.
        In this case, it seems to me unlikely that the PM would go even as far as that. But is Ghost really suggesting that some full battery of psychiatric requests be demanded, of politicians?

    Yes, the ‘mental health issues’ seem to have flared up because she was dumped by her partner.
    That’s sad. So sad. But no different to any teenager who thinks the world is ending with their relationship.
    
    Adults, and professionals, and ministers of the crown should have some maturity and resilience.
    I am not sure if the same ‘mental health’ was also the reason she was publicly exposed as a horrible person to work for as well.
    Translation: emotional and conducting themselves poorly.
    
    I see this being used too much as a way to say someone is beyond criticism. Neither being a judge, nor a claim of mental health issues, should excuse scrutiny of public figures in public service.
    It is one thing to feel a bit of sympathy when a person is under stress, it is another to try and use it to excuse a pattern of very poor behaviour.
    She was a terrible Minister of Justice anyway.
    Take some time off, Kiri.

But “mental health issues” gets tagged on to anyone wanting time to deal with shit in their lives these days. I have no doubt some are genuine, but in this case, did she go see a Psychiatrist?   As stupid as it is that one of our most important bridge gets closed when the wind picks up, the issue isn’t Health and Safety related, but a structural one.
  
  The bridge has already exceeded its design life and is being ‘managed until it’s end of life’ now. As an older steel structure it is highly sensitive to fatigue loading, particularly in the non-primary load axis (lateral loading). Wind acts mainly on this axis and is highly fatigue inducing.
  
  I imagine that the structural engineers have run a multitude of analyses and know exactly what winds are issues, and it’s an easy decision to close the bridge.
  
  The issue everyone should be focusing on is why the hell it’s taking so long to commit to and just build a damn replacement!

An interesting article: Curbing Censorship Will Require a Full-Scale Assault on the Surveillance State. An extract:

Political theorist Eric Voegelin, who studied the totalitarian regimes of the 20th Century, noted that the common feature of all such regimes was not concentration camps, or mass surveillance, or secret police — as horrifying as all these things are. The common feature of all totalitarian systems is the prohibition of questions. These regimes begin by monopolising what counts as rationality — what counts as acceptable public knowledge — and then place any dissidents outside the pale of rational conversation. Surveillance of dissident thoughts and behaviours and censorship of dissenting opinions then expand together.

Some of us felt this censorship and othering throughout the Covid fiasco. And think about this in the context of the previously model liberal democracies that are now forcing ‘hate speech’ censorship legislation on their citizens.

  Rt Hon CHRIS HIPKINS: I believe it is the role of police to ensure that the right to free speech is protected, that the right to peaceful assembly and peaceful protest is also respected, and that the right for people to hold uncontroversial opinions and express those is also protected.   A little known fact, there is more surveillance per capita of people in the UK, than there is in the PRC. This is done in the name of safety and preventing crime by thousands of CCTV cameras in every town centre and city across the UK.
  
  Plus then there is all the “authorised” electronic eavesdropping of the US and European spy agencies in the name of state security, some of which has been no more than eavesdropping on behalf of the commercial interests of the respective country.
  
  And finally, even allies can’t be trusted not to eavesdrop on fellow allies, as occurred in the period 2010 -12, when the US and Brits were found to be eavesdropping on the mobile phone conversations of European leaders and other politicians.
  
  We live in a world where even in democratic countries we cannot trust state and non-state agencies not to be “spying” on innocent people and organisations.

  Look at history. Societies go through periods of liberalism and control depending on the political mood and the mood of the people. Arguably NZ was rather heavily controlled during WW2 and the 1950’s. Broadcasting was state owned and there were controls serious limitations on printed material so the state had effective potential control of mass communication. All printed material had to bear the printer’s name and the printer could be held liable for the content. Customs arranged censorship of imported books and comics. There were criminal libel and blasphemy laws which were effectively ‘hate speech’ laws. Ordinary libel law strongly favoured the victim of the alleged libel. Male homosexuality was ruthlessly suppressed. Then during the 1960’s and beyond there were liberalisations in all these areas and the advent the internet and cheap computer printers turned everything on its head. So now some consider that things have gone too far and are calling for more state control over communication especially the internet. Some of the control is to protect commercial interests. For example the organisation that purchased the TAB will make a premium payment if the government effectively stops internet overseas gambling.
  And going further back in history there was the liberalisations at the time of the ‘Glorious Revolution’ in England (The Bill of Rights 1688 which tripped up Rob Muldoon in 1976) and calls for a return to ‘normal’ by a crown prosecutor some decades later (Entick v Carrington).
  So after liberalisation towards the end of the 20th Century, things are becoming less liberal was society enters the 21st century. And this is just not NZ but international.

  Early in the campaign, I was interviewed by a well-known TV journalist about the role that SAM USA had in Say Nope to Dope. The accusation was that they were secretly bankrolling our efforts and trying to affect the outcome of the referendum. I explained that we only used their research and borrowed their name, but that they weren’t involved in strategizing or funding SAM NZ. We even offered to produce an auditor’s letter proving that we were 100% funded by concerned Kiwi families. That same journalist interviewed someone from SAM USA who confirmed our story. Despite all this, the next day, the news story was about how the US was interfering in the New Zealand elections. Justice Minister Andrew Little was even fed information that this was true. Yet all along they knew they were selling a lie. We were furious and demanded an opportunity to correct the error.
  
  The next day a 20 second clarification was broadcast – but not during the news, but just after the Sports News. Sadly, the damage was done. The question of US involvement would plague us for the remainder of the campaign. You can imagine how frustrating and ironic it was to answer a false accusation created by journalists wanting to change the outcome of the referendum. It was sad that I could no longer assume that the news media is impartial and objective.

My father had an interesting chat to a CAB lady yesterday. She said from her experience, National are going to win in a landslide, based on what her ‘customers’ are saying to her. And these are the hard core traditional Labour voters. People who are too nervous and embarrassed to say it publicly, or in polls. She predicts a massive groundswell to the right, including a dyed-in-the-wool Labour suburb looking increasingly blue.
I’m not going to put any more detail here, in case Labour read it and will then know exactly who to target to try and retrieve some votes, but suffice to say I was hugely encouraged to hear the detail of what she was saying.

Labour have a problem releasing there tax policy, this week (now defer red until some future date) because Parker threw his toys out the cot after not getting his way on wealth or Capital Gains Tax. So, the Labour spinmeisters call in the favours in the media and they get the interviews with Luxon to focus on what National will do to pay for their tax policy.

Evidence that there is still a hangover resulting from the PIJF in some quarters.

So, Luxon reaffirms National’s already stated policies that there will be no cuts to Health or Education, but wasteful expenditure on consultants will come to an end, like the $millions being spent by NZTA on the Sustainable Public Transport Framework (SPTF) or the Auckland Light Rail Project to name but 2 areas of on going wasteful spending.

However, we are not yet in the full campaign, so why should National be the only party bullied into publishing it’s policies ahead of the Labour party. The Greens and TPM don’t count, because their policies can be written in two to three sentences.

      Freeloaders. Heavily subsidised. It was then cut back to Hamilton to Papakura again. The story about drivers running red lights was fake news. They did not. It was all tied up with permissions to go ahead after track gangs approved, and got away from the track.
      Whoever in the media wrote the running red lights was a bullshit artist.

  Impeachment requires a 67:33 vote in Democrat controlled Senate. No matter how egregious the offending it is no longer clear that hyper-partisan US politics would see Democrat senate voting against a Democrat president. However in this case they are likely trying to remove Biden from 2024 ticket, so perhaps it plays to their preferences. Kamala sees out term and is primaried by Newsom.

This is why the terms mis and disinformation are now embedded in language.   If you actually read the IPPC reports it quite impressive how neutral they actually are. Sure after a generation of Climate Change indoctrination they clearly support a certain narrative but there is very little climate alarmism in the actual reports. That mostly comes from the summary for policy makers which is written by political appointees and not scientists. It must be remembered that while the scientists make a living out of climate change, the politicians make a fortune.

  The scarier part for me was how people were unable to spot the obvious lies. They were massive stinkers. You only needed some basic scientific knowledge to realise the scam.
  
  I think Carl Sagan touched on this danger. He would talk about how we’ve created an extremely complex, science based society, yet the majority of people do not understand science and can not explain how anything actually works. It leaves the public exposed to manipulation and abuse on an industrial scale.

      Souvlaki, on queue last night there was a fake AI clip posted to a fake One News twitter account featuring Luxon & Uffindel. It sent Presland and others on the other blog into a ferver until one of their more observant contributors pointed out it was all fake. But it didn’t stop them trying to kick National, Luxon & Uffindel even though they had been supportive of Allan.
      
      It just shows how low Labour is, that just because their morals have been in the gutter for a long time, they think their opponents are no better than themselves.

    Her unstable private life seems to be the problem. I sympathise, it reads like a teenager’s love life, traumatic for those affected.     Initial reports stated that she was arrested for Reckless Driving and failing to give a breath tests. Allen is an experienced lawyer and would know the difference between Reckless and Careless Driving. Once when I was close to the action, Reckless or Dangerous Driving was punishable by 3yrs imprisonment. Careless Driving only a fine. Reckless or Dangerous would require a witness to the driving whereas careless could be inferred from a minor incident whereby a parked car was clipped and could be resolved by Insurance through the exchange of addresses. I understand you cannot remain a member of parliament if convicted of an offence punishable by 2years imprisonment. Its thought provoking how news reports downgraded her traffic breaches from Reckless Driving to Careless Use after several hours.

How do Labour say they haven’t has an effect on sentencing when their goal was reduced prison population and they have achieved this. What tools have they used to reduce the prison population if not sentencing. Cultural reports are the likely answer. Assume someone without an impoverished background is more likely to go to jail than someone with a bad upbringing for the same crime, this is equity at work.

      Here’s a Glasgow story for you rockape.
      
      In 1925 my maternal grandfather was farewelled on the street by a group of his neighbours at he left Blantyre for his new adventure in New Zealand. He had served with the Gordon Highlanders on The Somme, and after a few years recuperating and sorting himself out, was now to strike out for new pastures.
      
      Fast forward to the 1990’s my parents stood across the same road from his old stone cottage to take a few pics. They could see the curtains twitching from the house next door, and shortly after a little old lady came out to ask what was up.
      
      Turns out little old lady remembers as a young lass the day in 1925 when they farewelled Jock and proceeded to invite my olds in for a cuppa and cakes etc.
      
      True story.

  The primary purpose of the police and judiciary is to protect the citizen’s rights. This seems to be forgotten. It does not appear to matter what was the upbringing etc of a particular criminal. If they are a criminal they are a criminal. Their upbringing does not somehow make them more or less of a danger to the public.

Just down the road from me yesterday armed police storm Sylvia park shopping centre as a fight between gang members broke out in the food hall.
It didn’t even make the 6pm news!
There were around 20 odd police cars I believe.
So expecting to read about it on the NZH and Stuff, I had to do a search to even find the article.
I guess this sort of violence has just become the normal daily occurrence now and hardly gets a mention in the news.

  She cited a tale of a guy who was being forced to pullover on the Waikato expressway because two people in a car were pointing guns at him, because they wanted the motorcycle that was on a trailer he was towing.

        You turn it around by taking 2 days off kiwiblog each week to volunteer for your local ACT or National candidate.
        
        Wouldn’t it be great if the centre right coalition get a 75% majority so they can entrench
        – the curriculum,
        – minimum sentences
        – public service targets and reporting
        – equal and universal suffrage
        – abolition of race based laws and policies
        – abolition of the reserve banks ’employment’ targets.
        – implementation of Citizen’s referenda for any changes not outlined and costed in election campaigns, and for any decision to ignore pre-planned pandemic and emergency plans.
        – a beefed up conflicts of interest policy with real consequences.
        
        I could go on but….

        I mean, for goodness sake, at the 2020 election, Labour (65), Greens (10) and Māori Party (2) only won 77 seats.
        
        I said at GD on Saturday that there will be a change of government. I expect National and ACT, together, to get about 65 seats – one or two more, at the very most.

        Steve, you are on the low side. The mood out there is volatile. That is not good news for the incumbent cabal of chaos.
        
        The result will be a landslide.
        
        The votes National/Act get on 14/10/2023 will not be as great as the Lab/Green/Maori vote in 2020, but expect Labour’s vote to collapse because of stay at home voters.
        
        Of votes cast, I expect Labour/Green/Maori to struggle to get to the low 40s of percent. Labour are bleeding support.
        
        As evidence of what is happening:
        1. Have a look at the Standard to see how despondent the usual posters are, they are already writing off the election; and
        2. Luxon is getting big turnouts at all his meetings all over the country.
        
        The fact that Snownews & the MSM are not reporting what is happening and the mood, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.
        
        This is almost 1990 all over again. Labour were only saved a total humiliation that election because they dumped Palmer in a coup 8 weeks before the election. Will they do the same this time, unlikely (no contenders).

        I know the notion that Labour voters will stay home finds favour on Kiwiblog, but I haven’t seen any evidence to suggest this will happen.
        
        Any comparison with the 1990 election is invalid. At that election, under FPP, National won 67 / 97 seats (69.07%) on 47.82% of the vote. Compare that with Labour in 2020, which won 65 / 120 seats (54.17%) on 50.01% of the valid Party vote (54.24% of the effective Party vote – 1,443.545 / 2,661,238).
        
        What you say is based on your opinion, or the opinions of others. Neither of us knows precisely what will happen on 14 October – we can only speculate – but I’m certain there will not be the complete reversal (à la 1975) you are implying will occur, i.e., with National and ACT together getting 75–77 seats.
        
        Also, in 2020, National and Labour received 75.59% of the valid Party vote (2,181,820 / 2,886,420). Commentators / polling suggests that percentage will drop below 70% this election. Who knows, a sixth party could make it into Parliament.
        
        As I said to Swifty on Saturday, fascinating times ahead.

        @Steve Todd, I’ve been out stuffing letterboxes and to village markets. The mood is angry, people want change, it is not only traditional swing voters, but also lifelong Labour voters/members who are turning off. I have met such people. They are hostile, and vocal that the Labour government is not the Labour party that they supported in their early working life.
        
        I suggest you look at the threads to stories on the Stuff, Horrid or Facebook pages. The Liebore trolls are not getting a look in these days.
        
        I remember 1975, and 1990 too, and the elections in between, and the ECB by-election (my first vote was the ECB by-election). In 1975, the Labour government was weak, in 1990 the government was not only weak, but it fell apart, much as it has been doing this year.
        
        The signs that Labour of 2020-23 have been going backwards started to show in 2021 (despite the polls), by the time of the Wellington protest, the momentum was there. However, the media have been doing a snow job, and making sure whitewash has been spread liberally to distract.
        
        I tell you the mood is the same as 1990, people are not in a forgiving mood. From what I am seeing, voter turnout will be down (and it will be Labour that suffer). Peters will not make it. Just then the Nationals rose and ran forwards, a blue tide sweeping inexorably across the veldt, threatening to swamp the tiny band of Labours huddled around Chard and Bromhead. They fell silent.

Then Chipkins Chard straightened his shoulders, puffed out his chest, rolled up his sleeves, and began to sing: “Men of hard left, stand ye steady….”

The new National government will be hammered a dozen times a day in bulletins from the remnants of Red Radio, there will be exaggeration, twisting, and lies on frothing Leftist blogs, and many-times-daily shouts of “racism!”.

A mountain of Labour scandals can be unravelled if Luxon unleashes his team: State handouts by the score to expose, the near-collapses of the health and education sytems, the murky Disinformation project, political manipulation of national instiutions like the Royal Society of NZ, Labour’s media subsidy pipeline with its pledge on the Treaty, and much more. The Kiri Allan story has submerged questions regarding the Auckland killings. I have one regarding the Public Prosecution Service. Why did the Prosecution only ask for a 3 year prison sentence. The maximum sentence is 7 years for strangulation
The unfortunate young women ended up in hospital with a broken neck bone. Surely this should have called for the maximum sentence. It’s then up to the judge to decrease as he or her sees fit after guilty plea, cultural reports etc. Ofcourse have no proof but even with maximum reductions the sentence would still be more than 2 years. Thus the assailant would have to be sent to prison negating the governments agenda to reduce the prison population. Is the Crown Prosecution Service asking for lower sentences so as to achieve home detention. Just a question.

When people at the Citizens’ Advice Bureaux say that they are NOT voting Labour or Greens, then a landslide is definitely on the cards.
My pick is Act and National=72 seats, at least. My dyed in the wool Labour mate asks what substance I have been smoking. This swing against Labour etc is unprecedented.

      I don’t know what you think is “high quality evidence” (I take any evidence of climate change is not high quality in your book) but most weather related disasters have an increasing amount of anthropogenic climate change component – even recently Cyclone Gabrielle was shown to have higher rainfall due to climate change, current/recent heat waves in Europe, China and the US in greater intensity due to climate change.

Even conservative stalwarts like the Wall Street Journal have been affected by Climate Change enthusiasm.

From the Wall street Journal:

Clean energy helped Germany and other European countries cope with the loss of natural-gas imports from Russia last year. New clean energy is also helping key economies like China and India reduce air pollution.

The facts. Beginning last year, Germany re-opened some coal-burning electricity generation plants to bolster energy security because of the Ukraine war and German dependence on natural gas from Russia.

Reuters reported last September that, first, Germany was extending the time for existing hard-coal plants to be phased out.

Second, Germany announced the short-term return to the power market of 1.9 gigawatts from closed brown-coal (lignite) fuelled power generators.

(New Zealand’s resources of lignite in Southland are estimated to be big enough to provide all the country’s electricity for four or five centuries.)

China meanwhile is expanding its coal-fired electricity generation. The American NPR site reports that China last year opened the equivalent of two new coal-power plants per week. NPR reported:

China permitted more coal power plants last year than any time in the last seven years, according to a new report this week [the report is dated 2 March 2023] .It’s the equivalent of about two new coal power plants per week.

NPR says China’s new coal-power approvals in 2022 were twice those of 2021.

To be fair … India, the world’s third highest carbon emitter after the United States and China, in June announced a five-year pause in approval of new coal-fired power generation plants. It updates its power plans every five years.

At present about three-quarters of India’s electricity is generated by burning coal. The country hopes to reach “carbon zero” status by 2070.

Last September, India’s Central Electricity Authority projected that nearly 8,000 megawatts of new coal capacity was required by 2027. But in June revisions, the Government proposes creating more than 8,600 megawatts of battery energy storage systems instead.

      Why are they so scared of allowing someone to have a say, if they can win the debate?
      Do they realise that they, even in their own opinion, may be wrong.

    What’s not normal is for people to advocate for their own disenfranchisement and subjugation – actively seeking to damage the prospects of themselves and their own children (if they have any) such as we are seeing now.
    
    That can only happen after long campaigns of quasi-religious indoctrination on groups of people who have culled any one who dares think for themselves from their ranks (ie humanities departments of the last 30 years)

A Twitter posting, Etienne Kapikian@EKMeteo includes a map of a red ‘heatwave area’ in parts of Iran/Iraq/Kuwait/Saudi Arabia.
The temperatures in this area are considerably higher than other parts of Iran (in excess of 25% more).
Basra, which is notably mentioned as having amongst the highest, has according to population graphs grown from:
1950: Population Metro Area – 116,000:
1975: 350,000: 2000 – 759,000: 2023 – 1,448,000.

Naturally, temperatures will not have been affected.

The left and some on the right are trying to categorise Kiri Allen’s issues as “mental health”, whatever that means in this context. And yet she was deemed to be fit enough to carry on as a Minister of the Crown, holding various delegations and a local MP. I think most people can see this for what it is, gaslighting to prevent the true story, whatever that may be coming out. If that fails, move to the Maori clause, then the woman clause and finally the lesbian clause.

Unfortunately for all of those excuses, the earlier allegations are now being supported from inside Labour. Those supporting her and blaming men, whites, toxic parliament, racism, sexism, is ism are being exposed for supporting a bully. Those questioning her behaviour and performance are being vindicated. The PM now needs to be asked what he knew about her behaviour, if he says nothing then he must be the only one in Labour to not know.

The Government has backtracked on its decision to keep a tight lid on the carbon price, shortly after losing a court case to climate-concerned lawyers.

The Zero Carbon Act is meant to remove carbon pricing from the swings of the election cycle, by requiring the government of the day to consider advice from the independent Climate Change Commission.

How did so many protesters find the meeting location after the first venue cancelled out?
The meeting on the next night (25th) Police were not informed. Invite was phone call only. No protesters turned up. That has never happened before.
Strange? Not informing Police?
Tonight there is another meeting. Police will not be informed.
So what does this tell you about the Police? (some Police) You make your own conclusions.

The ambulance service has had a telling-off for allowing Dr Shane Reti into hospitals without its permission.
