  This is a form of neutralism and capitulation, not anything positive to celebrate.
  
  We see this all the time: “the left” always push and push for bias strictly in their favour, while the so-called right come along and propose “balance” and “fairness” and other cucked and wishy washy concepts. They think this is a victory, but it isn’t.
  
  The National party seems to not be anything positive, but instead defines itself negatively as “not X” – e.g. not racist, not sexist, not “socialist,” not nasty, not exclusive …. and so on. In other words, they take all of the things our political orthodoxy tells us that people “aren’t supposed to be,” and National are “not those things.”
  
  How about we don’t “tell all stories”? How about, as an historically and characteristically European nation, we tell one New Zealand story, which is the European story, sprinkled with some Maori? Go to school in China and they aren’t being taught anything except the Chinese story.
  
  World history is a different matter, necessarily taking a much broader view of events, different nations and cultures etc. But New Zealand history is much more particular and should be inherently more focused on our part of the world.
  
  If people don’t want to come to our country and be told about the history of our country and its European roots and antecedents, then they can stay in their own countries where they will be told “their story.”

      “White supremacy” (or more accurately, White primacy) almost a necessary precondition for the highest society.
      
      Europe was the pinnacle for 2000 years because of the people who lived in Europe. As Europeans spread out across the seas, they tended to recreate Europe wherever they went, because even though the geography changed, the people developing it were the same.
      
      The claim is often made that Europe became great through colonialism and parasitism, but the colonial age didn’t begin until about 1500, at which time Europe has already been an exemplar of high civilisation for millennia. In fact, a pre-requisite for the Age of Empire from about 1500 was having a civilisation that was already rich enough, technologically advanced enough, ambitious enough and capable enough to undertake the expansion.
      
      Highly homogenous European nations became prosperous and developed because of their demographic conditions, not despite them, arguably also aided the Christianity that was the social glue and the ethical underpinning.
      
      The less-White these nations become, the less they will have the demographic attributes that made them flourish, and the worse-off everyone living in them will be, including the later arrivals, who came to enjoy the fruits of Whiteness.
      
      Once mass-immigration policies have eradicated White demographic majorities, European nations will have become just as non-White as the other countries of the world, and the incentive to emigrate to them will disappear. Everywhere will be like everywhere else.

    Che – I don’t agree with everything you say but you are 100% on the money here. The right in NZ are unbelievably complacent and wishy washy when it comes to cultural issues – leaving a vacuum filled by the hard left. I think people take what we have for granted but we need to start being far more proactive about promulgating our narratives. Of course we are predominantly a European nation (complimented with Maori) – and we should be proud of that.

    Is this something you know or just choose to believe because you think it sounds true?
    I know from direct experience that Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Shakespeare, Voltaire, Beethoven, Mozart, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Einstein, Von Neuman, among many others are all being taught in Chinese schools not to mention the obvious Marx & Engels.
    Their work can’t be understood without learning their stories and that means learning their history. If you believe that the Chinese are only learning Chinese history, then you are admitting that you believe that the Chinese aren’t interested in learning about the very best, not only of art literature and music but also the best in mathematics, science, technology and business. That’s obviously false.
    Chinese automakers want to know everything they can about Henry Ford, they love that guy! Chinese businessmen want to learn and teach their children everything they can about Coco Chanel in the fashion industry or Harlan “Colonel” Sanders (KFC) and Ray Kroc (MacDonalds) in the food industry.
    In summary, the Chinese are NOT stupid. Everyone has their culture and it’s worth preserving, but Aristotle wasn’t good because he was Greek, Shakespeare wasn’t good because he was English and Mozart wasn’t good because he was Austrian. They were just good, very good and very smart and no part of preserving culture requires you to be stupid.

        I am hoping that Trump will make an example of the Biden family as part of draining the swamp. This time he is ready for them. 2016 Trump really did underestimate the size of the swamp and the number of Democrat corruption that was going on.       It seems clear that Biden has chosen Harris as his running mate for 2024. If Biden does choose to withdraw, Harris will certainly be in contention to be the Democratic nominee for president. Not to say she will get the nomination, but she will certainly put her claim forward.
      
      A lot depends on the potential date of Biden withdrawing. If he goes late then the Democratic nominee will be chosen by the Party organisation, quite likely at the Convention, just as used to happen pre 1960.

        Chuck, the majority of Americans aren’t fanatically anti-abortion, it’s the fundamentalist Christian elements. Granted, there are more of them than in any other Western country, but they are still a minority (albeit a vocal one with powerful lobbyists). I would have thought that if the Republicans ditched the anti-abortion crap (which puts off a lot of centre-right types), and let the fundamentalists form their own Christian party, they’d bolt in.

    I seriously doubt it.
    She would only have a fraction of the political pull Obama had and the whole job is a death-trap nightmare for anyone who isn’t a steely hearted operator.
    If she had any serious political ambitions, we would have seen them before now and she would have followed a path similar to Hilary Clinton.
    Currently the prediction markets have her at ~7% and I think that is a bit too optimistic.

  If you read up a bit about rare earth metal production – the extraction and processing are incredibly harsh environmentally. Not just a matter of digging it up, melting things and job done. All sorts of acids and toxic stuff involved plus an awful lot of toxic tailings.
  
  One of the reasons China is the main producer is that they don’t sweat all that. They also dropped the bottom out of the price which made a lot of other facilities uncompetitive.
  
  This is not to say it should not be exploited ….

    Ian, I do read up a lot on this and am well aware of the damage being done to the land and communities in China and the Congo in particular. Not something the Green’s wish to acknowledge in their drive for electric cars and renewable energy.
    However, western countries have strict environmental legislation and the sort of mining practices you refer to would not be tolerated. Astronomical fines, prosecutions and closures would await any mining company damaging the environment.
    That’s all by the by as I can’t see mining on any increased scale happening here no matter what may be discovered in the future.

SH2 into Tauranga has been abysmal for a number of years now. Katikati is also a huge issue. Congestion on the other road into Tauranga from the Kaimais is also terrible. I’ve been caught in multi kilometer queues where you think there must have been roadworks or an accident, but it is just congestion.

For whatever reason Tauranga has been largely ignored when it comes to roads, internally and externally. Many of the road works being done are to ‘slow’ traffic down, including the removal of entire lanes to accommodate absurd cycle corridors.

The media are starting to lament to future prospects of the Labour Party.
However, to date, they have not drawn attention to the fact that their last two unifying leaders were Helen Clark and Jacinda.
After Helen departed the Party went into a spin, even though they had had a successful period in government.
What are their chances after Jacinda, when even their supporters recognise the failures of the term in government.

    Look at Bill English. He was really the brains behind the operation. He had space to do what he did best.
    We could say the same of many of the ministers.

  Neither Clark nor Cindy were “unifying”. Both left the party in a way worse state than they found it.
  
  Clark ruled her government with an iron fist. She didn’t allow her ministers to do anything on their own. She completely stifled the growth of the party around her. My way or the highway. Thus when she left Labour was a talentless void.Very poor leadership.
  
  In Cindy’s case it was Brand Cindy above Brand Labour. We saw that in the 2017 elections where people voted for Cindy, personally, not for Labour.
  
  Cindy was also a poor leader for the polar opposite reason in that she didn’t reign in her MPs enough. And, again she didn’t build anything. Very poor leadership..

Glad tidings! Otago University has appointed its first Deputy Vice-Chancellor Maaori. No, not a Maaori Deputy VC, it’s a new special deputy VC position. And she’s slightly paler than I am.

Curious that NZ’s cash-strapped unis can somehow rustle up the funding for new administrative positions like this one. But what we’re seeing now is a perverse type of competition between NZ unis, each trying to prove they’re more “treaty-focused” and “anti-racist” than the next.

  Add in other supporting staff ($200k-$500k?) and perhaps that’s up to $1 million the University needs to find to fund these initiatives.
  
  Presumably they aren’t generating this amount as new revenue so guess this amount is taken out of existing budgets (eg cut backs in staff or maintenance or other initiatives across the Uni).
  
  Also are there any KPI’s to demonstrate this initiative is positively helping Maori student recruitment, achievement and pass rates? Because surely this is the number one and only priority?
  
  Or is it simply more Ti Tiriti virtue signalling for the Uni “elites” to brag about at conferences or hui and the like? In other words more top heavy bureaucracy?
  
  Oh and can anyone outside Ngāi Tahu apply for such a role or is it limited to tribes within the Uni’s catchment?

  I think the basket weaving degrees are far more profitable for universties than the real technical stuff.
  
  It is easy to find staff for a basket weaving degree. Unlike technical staff, they are generally unemployable in the real world so there is nowhere else to go.
  
  There are no expensive labs to run. There is no international reputation etc to worry about.
  
  So it is really easy to see why universities will go down this route.

    NMTB, from my Diary after a day in Tienanien Square:
    
    Not unreasonably, you must pass through a metal detector before being allowed into the Square and your belongings are searched and x-rayed. But I must say that I’ve never felt so watched in my life. The place was crawling with soldiers, policemen (in poorly-disguised plain clothes, ha) and miscellaneous security persons. All there, natch, to clamp down on protest because there’s certainly nothing here to steal. Without exaggeration, I would guess that, of all the people here today, about 10% were security! And see those ginormous lamp posts in those pics? Each of them has multiple security cameras that record both vision and sound.
    
    Oh yes, if you’re a European, expect to spend a lot of the day getting asked for a photo by Chinese tourists. You’ll feel quite the celebrity! One guide book I’d read said that these people are mostly from villages and have likely never seen white people before – so they’re keen to take pictures so they could show them off back home. ‘Is true what they say about Western men. Look at this one. Ain’t he sexy?’ Look, these are my journals, okay, and my fantasies! Some people even handed Jaynie their babies so that a pic could be taken … and, yep, shown off to incredulous folk back in the village…
    
    Small groups of soldiers marched seemingly haphazardly through the Square, amongst the milling throngs who parted to make way for the formations. I would see individual soldiers, all looking impossibly-young, standing guard throughout the city – in front of department stores, hotels and in seemingly arbitrary locations around parks. A few were like Buckingham Palace guards at the gates of the Forbidden City. I was impressed by the extreme slenderness of most of the soldiers. But I was also aware that their slenderness made them (intentionally, I bet) appear less threatening.
    
    We roamed about, gawking, playing a game of Spot-The-Secret-Policeman, and we found ourselves running into a ginormous queue of some of the 20,000 or so folk who file daily past the crystal coffin (raised from a freezer every morning and lowered back down in the evening) where Mao himself lies, tucked under a cosy red flag featuring the hammer and sickle. To get in for a five-second march past his displayed body requires a patient two-hour wait.
    
    Admission to Mao’s Mausoleum is free but we didn’t go in. I’m not particularly fond of even moderate-leftish live politicians, ha, so why anyone would think I would wanna gaze at the remains of a hard-line-left dead politician somewhat eluded me.

    These people have popped up all over the place. There were some lectures from someone with a PhD in AI ethics in an AI course I did last year.
    
    She works for Google but also lectures at Harvard etc.
    
    These people are obsessed with the idea that AI will discriminate against people in various ways. For example:
    * point the crime-fighting finger at people of colour (or some other group).
    * not work for people of colour (or some other group) due to limitations of how it has been trained.
    
    The thing with AI is that it just recognises patterns in the data. The AI algorithms themselves are not racist, but if there are patterns in the data, then the AI will find them and use them without feeling guilty.
    
    So while security staff might have been brow beaten to ignore offending from Maori to not make Maori look bad and to avoid being called racist, an AI does not have feelings of guilt, shame etc. The AI doesn’t mind being called racist. It just looks at data and blows the whistle.
    
    This offends the ethicists because the AI can’t be controlled to follow constructed norms.
    
    IMHO this is just woke bullshit.
    
    Then there are the concerns that if an AI system has, for example, been trained on predominately light skinned people then it will have insufficient data to work with dark skinned people. This is a fair concern with much technology – not just AI. Since the AI just looks for patterns, there is some concern that the AI could just learn that “darkies are criminals” and essentially weight the criminality score of people based on their skin colour.
    
    Yup, that’s potentially a concern.

    First, this will be a permanent feature, not only a six month trial. You’re kidding yourself if you believe otherwise. What happens when every possible option has the same technology?
    
    Second, is a society without constant invasive surveillance better than one with ubiquitous monitoring from which there is no escape?
    
    The pretext is always “safety” or “preventing crime” or some other such superficially plausible pretext. The reason can never be what it actually is, which is constant loss of liberty and the growth of an ever-more ubiquitous control matrix.
    
    In a society that already has security cameras all over the place from whose reach there is little chance of escape or respite, are we a safer society now than we were before their advent and tumor-like spread? The statistics unequivocally tell us we are far less safe and that there is far more crime. Clearly, security cameras and the like aren’t making our society any better, in fact it’s the underlying motivation for them that makes it the opposite.
    
    I don’t give a shit if it’s a “private business” – it is a “private business” that necessarily exists in a public society made up of human beings who should be afforded a minimum level of dignity, and we shouldn’t have to be treated like livestock that are constantly monitored, controlled, directed and dehumanised in the process.

      These are legitimate points but they have basically been examined before and solutions found when we had things like photographs and fingerprints discovered in the 19th century and computer systems in the 20th.
      Reasonable rules can be made and enforced. Would you like a strong and honest doorman at the front of your building opening the door for only the correct people and barring the rest? What’s the difference if it’s a flesh and blood man or a robot?

  MW – about 18 months ago I almost got flattened by a Security Guard at the Hastings Pack N Save as mrspdm and I were walking in to buy a few things.
  
  Said Security Guard was chasing two teenage Maori Boys who were wheeling out a trolley threequaters full of unpaid for goods. Two meters behind me there were groceries everywhere as they tipped over the trolley and took off.
  
  Maybe the targeted `Maori’ woman was the mastermind and was sitting in the getaway car waiting for the delivery.

  I was listening to someone talking about the technology just the other day when I was stuck in traffic
  It seems it’s about 90% accurate or to put it another way 10% inaccurate and because it was developed in America using different subjects than our neck of the woods, less accurate for ethnicities not common over there particularly those with a dark complexion
  The system also uses existing CCTV which doesn’t have ideal resolution
  The point being it’s not foolproof and the shit can hit the fan if too many law abiding citizens, such as ourselves, are misidentified as petty thieves or worse staff battering thugs
  My iPhone uses face recognition software to unlock, but that only works under ideal conditions

    Mine works pretty well .
    
    Even if the tech is 10% inaccurate today, this is a revolutionary improvement on 10 years ago where it barely worked at all. We’ve gone from a lab to practical application.
    
    10 years from now the accuracy will be almost perfect! Imagine 32k wide angle cameras capable of recognising thousands of faces an hour.

    In the Herald, a Foodstuffs spokesperson said they knew who the bad guys were, because they keep coming back and doing more stupid stuff. Not a very good recommendation on our policing, but there you go. Like most hi-tech installations in NZ, the technical potential is far above the ability of people to use it to full advantage. I’m sure there will be a graduation of action, such as a face being “recognised” and then a real live person goes to look to see if what is visible on the monitor is accurate. It’s not like there will be machine guns in the ceiling blasting away at pixelated targets.

  The issue now is whether the Irish judgment would be enforced by a NZ court and a law academic discussed this in the article. It would seem that as a NZ court will not award damages in personal accident cases covered by ACC (there are rare exceptions where there was very gross negligence) a NZ court would almost certainly decline to enforce the Irish judgment in NZ. There was nothing in the ‘Irish Examiner’ article as to whether the NZ contractor attempted to defend the case. It may well be the NZ contractor made no attempt to defend the case in the Irish court as he or his lawyer or insurance company considered any judgment would be unenforceable in NZ.
  It is quite open (and may be the best option) for anyone facing legal action in a foreign court to simply thumb his nose at the foreign court if attempted enforcement of any judgment via a NZ court would be futile.

      Imagine a White society like Britain being full of White people (notwithstanding that everything is being done to rapidly alter Britain’s racial demographics). How unexpected.
      
      You don’t see any articles decrying the fact that Black countries in Africa are full of Black people and thus that White people feel out of place in them. Obviously, then, the “problem” here isn’t that one or another race is predominant, it is that Whites alone have a moral duty to never be a majority anywhere.
      
      This is why I don’t give a crap whenever “racism” is invoked, because “racism” is designed to subjugate and disadvantage White people and White people only. If you’re “racist” you’re just not deferring to non-White people who tend to dislike you anyway.

  So despite the screeching and all-out effort of the media to sideline Seymour as a racist crackpot, his message is not only getting through, but voters support his style. What a climb! Meanwhile Seymour is left to spread the word (gaining significant public support, notably not at the expense of National according to Curia). The liberal elite and tribalists will now be hell bent on stopping the TOW Principles Bill being debated in Parliament for fear of the lid being lifted off the TOW rort that has been with us for 40 years.

Auckland War Memorial Museum has a public lunch room, or should I say KAI room and on the wall is a large blessing calling on “Tane of Rongo, of Tangaroa, of Maru and Ranginui who is above me and Papatuanuku who lies beneath me” to bless the food. Imagine the outrage if the Christian god was acknowledged in this way. Why do we have to put up with this crap?   Timaru and the surrounding area of South Canterbury is very dry, about 10% less than Chch & just about the driest region of NZ except down Central. The cow cockies around about spent huge amounts of money on irrigation

Only now am i happy to share with the other girls here in the group.
Cancelled my Les Mills membership over a year ago.
I can really vouch for this ‘home regime’. It can be performed on your bed!
Three or four days a week is all it takes. No weights or machines.
And no more being surrouned by sweaty hoi-polloi.
