I see Jack Tame is going to interview that Green slime, Chlöe Swarbrick. I wonder if he will ask her any hard questions about her support for gang rapists of Jews. I somehow doubt it.

      Let’s speak in general terms:
      
      Why do Jews as a collective entity have such a consistent record of being disliked? While inter-group antagonism is just a feature of social reality, nobody else seems to have quite the Jewish experience, so what’s happening here?
      
      The Jewish explanation is something like “Jews are above reproach and blameless, thus any antagonism towards Jews is the fault of the Other.” Nobody else has the audacity to make such an implausible and self-exculpatory claim.
      
      At some point, surely our analytical gaze must be pointed at the behaviour of Jews themselves as a large factor, because that is the simplest and most elegant explanation for ant-semitism, and one that doesn’t invoke unnecessary elements (a la Occam’s razor), rather than attributing an irrational and inexplicable antagonism to every non-Jew, which seems far more implausible.
      
      Surely it’s self-evident that the common factor in the history of all anti-semitism is Jews, so why is it considered strange, weird or hateful to postulate that the Jews are the (or one significant) problem, rather than everyone else despite them being from very different cultures, geographic regions and times?
      
      We are supposed to be a scientific and rational civilisation, so the scientific and rational approach would be to look at this phenomenon of “anti-semitism” and to evaluate the conditions for it, and the causal relationships.
      
      A Law of sorts can even be formulated: “Take any non-Jewish majority, add Jews, and anti-semitism results.”
      
      Let’s imagine an experiment: take some substance, A. We observe repeatedly that adding A to other discreet substances (e.g. B, C, D, E, F….etc) tends to result in the same energetic reaction, X.
      
      For instance, we add A to B; then A to C; then A to D; then A to B,C and F; then A to E and F….. and on and on, yet the reaction (X) is the same every time. Always X. Doesn’t matter when or where you do the experiment, or with what combinations of substance, adding A to anything always results in X.
      
      While a simplified case, is it more rational and scientific to conclude that A is the cause of X under any circumstances, or that B,C,D,E, and F are all the active ingredient, for some as yet indeterminate reason.
      
      We may not like X occurring, but we can still understand its causes if we are willing to think about things in the world.

        Also, it’s pretty difficult to end up with anti semitism if Jews aren’t involved, but let’s put that aside.
        
        If we are to ask that question, let’s test it with other groups.
        
        Gingas. It’s been a thing as long as I can remember. Put a ginga in a group of non-gingas, and you usually get a gingas comment. Curious.
        
        Also (in some places) put a negros in with a group of non-negros, you are likely to get a n**r comment.
        
        Crikey, it’s almost as if you put someone identifiable as “other” in a minority situation in a group, you get pack behaviours on that minority…

        Christians are/were taught that “The Jews” had rejected the “true Messiah” (according to Christians). In darker ages where pig-ignorant idiocy and savagery was the norm, “Christian” leaders allowed atrocities against Jewish people. This was probably intensified by the irritating fact that Christianity is built on top of the foundation of Judaism and Judaism was there long before Christianity. Also, irritatingly Judaism doesn’t recognise the Christian Messiah as being the legit Jewish Messiah.
        
        Islam was a founded by someone who had many Jews killed because they mocked him for plagiarising their religion. The Islamic texts are full of anti-Jewish utterances.
        
        Outside of Christian/Muslim societies I don’t think they were generally “disliked”.
        
        The other reason is general success. You see the same kind of hatred against successful Chinese people flare up in places like Malaysia and Indonesia (amongst others).
        
        People often behave like a pack of dumb chimps and will beat up and vilify any person or group that is different or more successful generally than the wider society.

    I must give Jack a little credit. He did ask her about her Jew hating remark. However, it is not a matter of hate speech it is a matter of incitement.
    
    Hamas’s charter calls for the Palestinians to control of what is now Israel and the elimination of all the Jews there.
    
    Jack allowed the false claim of genocide, Israel could have killed everyone in Gaza. He also did not ask her about the gang rapes, murder of children and taking of hostages.

      Agree seems he will never be known as Jack the Giant Killer .When he comes to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the October 07 2023 of the massacre of circa 1200 innocent Young Children Mothers and Grandparents Israelis by Hamas Terrorists and their United Nation Cohorts.

        Well having seen footageof her disgraceful performance on the stage after Twford was jeered and escorted away by police ( for his own safety) in broad daylight in Auckland and not only her failure to defend his right to free speech and her rant laden attck on the Auckland war Memorial Museum , along with her genocidal screaching of ‘river to sea’ ,to the approval of the scabby Green cabal around her , I think ‘slime” is more than appropriate as would be “scum”.
        
        And before we get too high and mighty , preaching off our high horse ,the Green scum themselves are very free and easy with the insults they throw at all and sundry .

        100%. Dismissing criticism of one’s behaviour as “hatred” allows one to never have to self-examine and self-criticise.
        
        Events in the world are always someone else’s fault, never your own. This is the definition of a victim complex.
        
        Be it Maori, African Americans, and, especially and originally, Jews – they all do it and they all do it for the same reason, which is to never be held to account and to always blame someone else.

      The problem with all these genocide claims is they’re based on an ongoing media reporting of “Palestinians killed”.
      Never mentions how many of these “ Palestinians “ are Hamas, who are the target of the IDF.
      The many dead civilians aren’t the target , but a result of Hamas deliberately using them as shields for tactical and PR reasoning.
      Fortunately WW2 media coverage didn’t imply the many dead Germans where just civilians

      I think writing it off to “hatred” allows one to hold a position without having to, or being able to, defend it.
      
      If being “anti-Israel/anti-Jewish” is such a self-evidently incorrect position that is easily rebutted by facts over feelings, why do people tend to respond with hurt feelings rather than facts whenever their position is questioned?
      
      If criticism of someone or something is equivalent to “hatred,” then most KBers must “hate” Labour or Green Party politicians, Maori elites, or figures in the media, or Joe Biden (or Trump for that matter), or climate scientists etc.

    Why not from outside Parliament? Parties are not really part of the formal system. Although there are some rules about minimum membership to present for party vote
    You could form a party, call it the Silly party, call your self God as leader. You don’t need any MPs to do that.
    Then it’s left to the people to vote for you (of course they won’t). That’s democracy. Leave to the people.
    Mind you. Some idiots voted for the fool in the hat.

    Time then to rename the party to something other than “green”. It is out of step with green parties around the world that have as their main, if not total focus, environmental issues. Quite frankly with the elements to be found in the National Party, if they stuck to the knitting, they would be right in there, affecting environmental policy in a meaningful way. As it is they are spearheading social and ethnic policies that mean the their green policies are never given the light of day.
    
    To be honest, the real green concerns such as clean rivers, adequate green areas in cities, and handling of waste products etc is actually really hard work. Instead, commenting on issues they actually cannot affect (eg. Palestine) gets them media coverage but requires them to do bugger all apart for press releases and interviews. Oh, and the occasional protest march.
    
    And they can never be assessed on outcomes, because the outcomes are beyond them anyway. It’s the old adage about the difference between apparent motion and productivity.

        We have no “independent” verification (that, when it suits them, the media scream to the hills for).
        Only Hamas’ word for it.
        Remember the supposed bombing of a hospital.
        Turned out to be
        1. A hospital car park and the hospital (intact) was even in the pictures they released.
        2. 50 not 500 killed
        3. Miss fire by Hamas, NOT IDF bomb.
        Personally, I go with the old adage:
        The first casualty of war, is the truth.
        So since the 1500 (your number) of Israelis killed and made hostage, was from Hamas (complete with actual footage THEY released so proudly) That, I would go with.
        The rest MAY be true, but probably, on their record of lies, NOT.
        Ask yourself.
        1. If the IDF is so accurate with their bombs and they are “targeting hospitals”…why are 11 still standing?
        2. If there are 30 000 dead, where are they?
        Surely by now the UN or the pro Hamas news, would, like they did in the Balkans War, have shown us the graves and all the bodies by now. (Good propaganda for Hamas too).

      These quasi-moral pretexts are only acceptable to idiots or to people who know better but can’t be explicit in the interests of maintaining support for an entirely selfish ethnic agenda.
      
      On Nietzschean Will to Power principles, I could at least respect the Israelis if they came out and admitted what any thinking person can see, which is that they want to do what they have sought for 80 years, which is to destroy Gaza and finally drive the Palestinians out of the region so that the borders of Israel can expand to fill the void and to make the demographics of Israel more favourable
      and more proportionately Jewish.
      
      It’s about Israel’s territorial and ethnic interests, not about fighting evil, despite it being clothed as the latter.
      
      That’s the obvious reality. But they can’t say this, because then who (other than Jews or Israelis) would get behind their brutal endeavour? Rather than invoking very particular Israeli interests that nobody else should care about, they have to employ abstractions as justifications so that, in theory, everyone can identify.

    Despite being the self-attributed “moral” and “civilised” and “rational” side of the conflict against the passionate and unthinking Muslim hordes, Israel’s position is that:
    
    First, the morality of an act is wholly dependent on its relationship to the collective interests of Jews; and
    
    Second, that Israel have no agency at all; and thus
    
    Third, the IDF had no other choice but to destroy Gaza, because Hamas made them do it.

    Fairly recent report according to Israel was that some 9,000 of the dead were Hamas operatives. At that point that was close to half the number of dead according to Hamas.

    How many Gazan deaths were from natural causes but have been counted as casualties of war. With a population of more than 2 mill there would be thousands of natural deaths in the period.

    The Jews are indigenous to the same area that the displaced Palestinians are. Hence the ongoing conflict.
    
    It is irrelevant what label we give to “the Palestinians,” or that there was no State of Palestine previously (but nor was there a State of Israel previously), because labels are irrelevant to the core consideration, which is people X and people Y both invoking property rights over the same area, leading to inevitable conflict.

      Of course Che, you fail (deliberately perhaps?) to mention there was the Kingdom of Israel and Judea in the 10th century, BCE. Naming the area Palestine is from Palaestina, a name deliberately given to the area by the Romans after the 2nd Jewish Revolt around 135 CE as an insult to Jews. Palaestina comes from the Philistines, who were mortal enemies of the Israelites. And of course, the Philistines were Greek (specifically Crete and the Aegean Islands), not Arabs. And you mistake this conflict as a “property rights” issue. Hamas Charter makes it crystal clear it is not. It is a religious issue. One religion wants the other destroyed and it’s adherents slaughtered (or forced to change religion) while the other wants to live in peace.

        @Damocles. In 1920, The League of Nations named the mandate the “British Mandate of Palestine”, and it included Transjordan. The whole mandate was conceded by the Ottoman Empire post WW1. The Emirate of Transjordan was subsequently added in 1921. And of course, no one today claims that Jordan is part of “Palestine”. Funny that.

        If it’s a religious war then it’s a religious war on both sides, this isn’t atheists vs agnostics, it’s jihadists vs zealots. Israel was created by the gun and is being maintained by the gun.
        These are not New Zealand’s principles and there is exactly zero reason for New Zealand to get involved.
        The origin of the word “zealot” is interesting, you should check it out.

  Do not forget at the time that the British Government wanted to stop providing Privy Council services to other independent nations. So the British Government could have announced that Privy Council services would cease after a specified date. Also there were areas that the Law Lords would not delve into since they indicated that local appeal judges are in a better position to consider issues involving local law. A lawyer I knew turned up at a Privy Council hearing in Downing Street only to be told just that – goodbye.

Report of a Mason Clinic psychiatric nurse issue mentions that 50% of the patients there are Maori. That is surely alarming. There is a lot of taxpayer funding going into race based health research. Has any of it figured out what is going on, and why?

  In the UK the biggest Health problem is Mental as a result of the many young people with serious mental problems brought about through what is officially Trans Sanguinity
  That is the generational inter family births brought about by predominantly immigrant Moslem families from such as from the Middle East or Africa.
  As soon as a young woman child is old enough to give birth she is made pregnant by anybody, well within the family – brother, cousin or any close family, to increase the numeracy of the family – look at birth rates by ethnicity.
  When buying a dog you look at its pedigree to see whether there will be a health problem, by inter breeding.
  This is thousands of years old including in UK where George III was considered unstable (He even gave away the USA). He was replaced, and the UK Royal Families marriages were in future interspersed.
  Prince Philip was of Greek ethnicity as an example.
  So one conclusion which must be reached is that Mental Health problems can be reviewed in terms of historic ethnicity whether we like to do so, and it can only get worse and of course hugely and exponentially expensive.
  Big problem already here and cannot be made better.

    There are enough studies showing that dope affects the developing brain. I suspect that there is heavy use in teenagers amongst certain groups and this shows up as mental illness later. Add to the mix the other commonly abused substances that have particularly powerful neuroleptic actions and their resultant up- and down-grading of neuroreceptors and their interference with their neurotransmitters. This scrambling of neural pathways must result in a dysfunctional brain. Even withdrawal of the substance does not result in normal function as many of the pathways ablated never reform completely and many of the aberrant ones remain.
    
    The communities in which this is happening need to be educated about the ill effects and they need to attack the problem.

  I am reminded of the court case of John Terry the former England Football Captain who called a player a similar slur. I believe he was found not guilty of racism. I recall arguments (probably on here) that the opposing player was indeed a CT and also was a black player so not a racist term to combine the 2 words.     What you should do and really I should have done it with the last lot is send any correspondence to any govt agency written in Maori. If you use short uncomplicated sentences Google translate gets it right as with any language. That way they would HAVE to send it out to a translation service etc and would cost them. Better to have done it in the last 6 years. Save it up for when they ever get back in perhaps.

  Some regard it as a slap in the face for Chris Luxon. My ‘takes’ are:
  1. James Shaw’s departure and the shoplifting incidents have not been helpful to the Greens – down to 9%.
  2. Labour seems to have lost votes to the centre-right but these were partly replaced by ex Green votes.
  3. David Seymour’s tough talk on the Treaty seems to have paid off with a higher level of support.
  4. Bit surprising that NZ First have lost a bit of support I thought that Winston has done very well as their leader.
  5. It has delivered an important indirect benefit to National – Chris could form a government without NZF’s support if an election were called and results reflected that poll. So if the need arose (and hope it does not) Chris Luxon could have a Clint Eastwood moment – ‘Go ahead – make my day’.

Last evening I read a story in The New Zealand Herald about a girl at Upper Hutt College being beaten up by two girls from the same college.
There was some footage, which apparently was put up on social media. As you do.
Some other girls watched, and the Herald story noted primly that they did not intervene.
Upper Hutt College is a violent school.
Late last year – probably September – I was seated on a Friday in a 110 bus, which runs the length of the valley down to Petone.
Still in Upper Hutt a group of schoolboys in the college uniform got on the bus.
In a short time one boy got out his phone to show that day’s fight between two boys who were perhaps 15-16.
It was full-on. The fight was in a corridor and they were going for it – big roundhouses, hard rights, stiff left-hand jabs.
There were black eyes and there was blood from the noses and mouths.
The audience was big: especially the solid group of girls watching on.
I know this because I asked if I could watch the movie, as well.
The 16 year-old with the phone seemed surprised that some old fart would want to have a look but I thought – ‘why not?’ I’m harmless.
I asked a couple of boys seated behind me what the fight was about.
Don’t know, they said. ‘There are fights every day at that school.’
Over what?
One boy replied: it’s because there are two gangs at the school and they hate each other. There’s the East Side and the West Side.’
East Side, West Side of what?
I thought: are they aping American gangs?
The boy continued: ‘You’re put in one or the other and it’s roughly where you live.’
He grinned: ‘I’m lucky. I don’t live up here and I won’t be at this school next year. Mum’s shifting me out.’
I wouldn’t send a kid to Upper Hutt College.
The school, the principal, the board can babble all their PR-manufactured phrases about zero tolerance of bullying, striving to keep ‘students’ (they’re not students, either, they’re pupils …) safe and that’s their main priority, and they have ‘robust policies’ – in place, too – blah blah blah.
But the facts appear to be there are American-style gang influences in the school, pupils can be beaten, girls are not safe from other hormonally angry other girls, and the teachers are too afraid to intervene anyway.

  Very well run, high standards, no bullying (although was bullying even a concept back then?) and the only violence I ever encountered was a) on the Rugby field or b) whilst touching my toes for some (deserved) punishment or other, heh.
  
  I look at the kids there these days and think that Allan Hunter, my principal in those years, would have a fit at the sneakers, loose trousers, low socks, long hair…

  On this issue, I tend to feel somewhat for the teachers. There are no doubt more than a few teachers who would like to intervene and pull the kids apart – but they know they would almost certainly face investigations leading to sanctions or significant disciplinary action from the Ministry. I’ve actually heard as much from a few teachers I’ve known. Therefore, sadly, it’s no great surprise that teachers tend to do very little in these situations.

  It would be totally unacceptable for today’s teachers but setting up a formal boxing challenge might do the trick. Fight Club was a fantasy movie (esp the Anarchist parts) but it made some solid points about young men in our society.

I wonder about farming. Specifically, I wonder about this claim that agriculture is responsible for something like nearly 50% of NZs greenhouse gas emissions. Let’s put aside the argument that greenhouse gasses are bad for the climate for now. (psst, they’re not).

Intuitively, I’d have guessed that agriculture was responsible for about 0% of our total emissions, because everything farmers grow gets its carbon from the air (or earth), and that’s where it all winds up again after a short period of time. That ignores things like the carbon used to provide the energy required to power the machinery used, but I wouldn’t have thought that would amount to anywhere near 50% of NZs total emissions. Yeah, I’ve heard this nonsense that methane is much more powerful than CO2 at gently warming the globe, but it’s also a short-lived gas and is in much lower concentrations and only absorbs energy from a very small portion of the spectrum.

Anyway, what I wonder is how much scientific effort has been put into showing just how much net greenhouse gasses are produced by agriculture.
I know of one study produced by some Auckland University that shows that agriculture in NZ is actually net zero, but it never got a lot of air time.

Is this science as ‘settled’ (I know, science is never settled) as politicians would have us believe?

  I have concluded that all moves to reduce NZ’s emissions are based on virtue signalling with no recourse to the actual science. It’s all about showing our European markets (largely Nestles) that our milk powder is clean and green, which it already is, compared to the rest of the world (probably not including Australia). Surely the fact that our emissions are 0.017% pf the world’s emissions is sufficient but the idiots prefer to use “per capita” data which looks much worse because of our tiny population.
  If you have access to the Australian, Steve Waterson has written a column titled “older, but sadly not much wiser” (Jan 14) which points out that only 4% of global CO2 emissions are from human activity (I haven’t checked his data but chose to believe him). Need I say more?

    ST. Completely agree. The last governments campaign to clean up our agriculture was for show like the 30 billion $ carbon unit scam they committed themselves to on our behalf. But their bias was worse than that. To them there is clean agriculture and dirty agriculture. Dairy being dirty and horticulture and cropping clean. Horticulture and grain largely getting a free ride regardless of carbon release while working up paddocks for crops ( 4.5 tonn carbon per hectare every time land is ploughed) and nitrogen leaching in areas like Pukekohe largely ignored. As a retired sheep and beef farmer I agree we need to work towards a cleaner environment but in a manner that doesn’t threaten our economy. The Labour government just didn’t like livestock farming but to them horticulture was clean. So ignorantly pathetic like their treesonous policy of encouraging the planting of pine trees on good farmlands. They should be held to account in real courts with hanging judges because to me their actions were nothing more than treason.

      Grape growing for wine uses heaps and heaps of water.
      It also uses heaps and heaps of chemicals and sprays for a variety of different plant related reasons.
      In some areas, dairy farms are being replaced by hop growing on an industrial level – for beer.
      Animals bad, alcohol good.

      That’s one of the really weird points, that people who know better are pretending that cultivation for arable and vegetable growing doesn’t release huge amounts of greenhouse gases.
      The effects have been known for thousands of years, hence the requirement in ancient Mosaic law that arable land be rested from cultivation every 7 years, with ruminant animals having the ability to rebuild fertility.
      What’s it all really about, it can’t be climate.

  It is rubbish for one simple reason. The “model” ignores every green thing growing on the farm, unless you have especially planted pine trees of 5ha or more and jump through hoops. I look out my window and I am in the Sahara for AGW. The grass, the hundreds of native trees (and a few pines) in the corner of the paddocks, the QE2 covenanted bush, etc don’t count.
  If GW is really a thing, then thy need to allocate it to the consumers. If they didn’t consume, then the evil CO2 would not be produced, and they can change their behaviour accordingly. Of course, that doesn’t give the puppet masters the control they want, and anyway, it is probably racist, since only westerners produce harmful CO2. China, Africa, India etc don’t apparently produce the evil CO2 emissions.

I say the Government must immediately remove the power of general comptence from Councils and set them a list of activities they must fund. With a cost of living crisis ratepayers cant afford the increases many Councils are suggesting. Councils must cut their cloth according to ratepayers ability to pay rates. No more funding vanity projects cultural festivals. Water roads rubbish parks and beaches libraries and dog control should be Councils priority.
In addition the cost of infrastructure should not be imposed on current ratepayers. These are long term projects that will benefit future payers so the cost should be capitalised and proportioned over the life of the infrastructure.

Few have missed the spectacle of vanity over sanitary needs that has been the “norm” for so long and how the infrastructure deficit can ever be covered by the diminishing percentage of homeowning ratepayers. “As of December 2023, the Probate unit has made adjustments to the workflow to implement a more sustainable system of processing files within our 15 working day goal. We have established two teams – one to process the backlog files (filed from September to November), a second to process the fresh filings (received from 1 December 2023 onward). Due to this change, grants may be made on more recent files prior to older filings. If your application was filed in October or November, an outcome can be expected by the end of February 2024. ”

So newer filings may get priority. What planet do tese people live on?

Watching Seymour being interviewed about the Treaty – interviewer claimed that Maori had a bunch of property rights before the treaty was signed .

That premise is wrong – each Chief only owned what they could physically defend and hold onto from attack from others. There were no property rights such as we know them now.

It would be interesting to know how many wars between Maori were fought after the treaty was signed . Considerably fewer I would suspect

  And why would there be a snap election? Even Seymour has dismissed another election. All three parties are getting on well, have a good working relationship. Why are you so stuck on referendum? Even Seymour is now suggesting it might not happen and the government may just pass the laws without one

      Yes, and it is also part of their collation agreement, that parties can disagree or support each others policies. There doesn’t have to be constant support between all three parties of each others policies. It’s actually a good way for the parties to operate, and have them last much longer than some think they will.

    Snap Election is something for Luxon to think about. He doesn’t seem to realise that he is 1/3rd of the coalition – no matter how many more votes got than the others.
    Luxon is not the Grand Master of the Lodge, he is simply one Leader of three.
    Peters and Seymour need to pressure Luxon more on abolishing his co-governance Maori sympathy.
    Luxon was voted there for at least two reasons: Get rid of commie Labour, and STOP the co-governance post 1975 movement. I don’t think he has the gonads.

  How foolish of Luxon not to wait to see what kind of public support for Seymour’s Treaty Principles emerged at the select committee. This bump in support for Act will continue. This issue has legs and the other parties will find they are out of touch with public opinion.

Listening to Simon Wilson, Nick Mills and Franciska Rudkin on Newstalk about 1115 this morning. Mills commented that the bump ACT got was due to Seymour being on the news all the time at the moment and his party’s Treaty Principles Bill appealing to the rednecks out there.

So there you go ACT supporters and other party supporters who believe in the Treaty Bill, you are rednecks according to one of your betters from the Peoples Socilaist Woke Republic of Wellington.

  I don’t mind. Racism is part of my heritage, glad to have it respectfully acknowledged. From the Romans through to the Normans, the Irish troubles and Scottish uprisings, my family tree – and no doubt the people they loved – has someone somewhere on both sides of the battle. There’s even a point in early NZ settler history I have had to scratch my head and think, “Hang on, how did that even happen?” I imagine them all sitting up there in heaven slapping each other on the back, laughing about the lines we like to draw between ourselves.

    Yes, made the mistake of rerouting due to already being in congestion for an hour…. but, there was another accident on the the other route (Maungatapu). Essentially the entire city area was gridlocked. We’d already left 2 hours early, so were 2 hours late for the appointment… but they took us because other people were not turning up either.

  And then on Country House hunting, the presenter went to W(h)anganui and couldn’t decide whether to pronounce the city name as Honganui or Fonganui.
  
  Having been born and raised in that city I never heard such silly pronunciations…and if the presenter didn’t have the sense to ask a local how to pronounce the name, then he could have looked at the City Council Guide on its pronunciation.
