    The reason I mention Australia is that I and a friend (who is a former National MP) regularly debate whether we and our respective families would go and live in Australia if the next Left government had a 2% (or more) wealth tax on everything other than ones residence.
    
    I predict a future Left government will have something like that, given the likely composition of such a government. I also think that many of the generation currently aged between 25 and 40 will still not own a home, and they and their children will be a bigger percentage of voters than they are now. They won’t care about a wealth tax, since it only affects those who have a home and a respectable level of assets above that. It is hardly a concern for those who can’t/won’t buy their own home.
    
    In 2032 we would both be 80. Would we worry enough about a wealth tax at that stage, particularly given that is going to only last the life of that Left government.
    
    It is pretty obvious why we nominate the next Left government as being elected in 2032 since that is 9 years from 2023. You have to go back to the Holyoake era since there was last a 12 year government.

While having an open border policy is a disaster and should disqualify the those implementing it from holding office, it is legal immigration that has contributed the most in the White population’s dropping from 90% to about 60% in only 50 or 60 years.   No-one knows when or where the next volcano would erupt. But it will. About the only thing that can be said is it is most likely to occur where was a volcano previously (remember a lot are gone as they got turned into fill).
  Think what would happen if the next eruption is under spaghetti junction? Won’t have to worry about CBD or central Auckland’s traffic problems any more.

    Auckland’s volcanoes appear to be monogenetic. With perhaps the exception of Rangitoto, none have erupted twice.
    
    There is no pattern in the distribution of the ages of the volcanoes… expect the next eruption to be somewhere within or close to the existing volcanic field.

      Taupo caldera last erupted AD232 – I think they even know the date within a couple of months. vent site was Horomatangi reef. Return period for eruptions is a nominal 1000 years. However, many of its eruptions have been similar size to Ruapehu in the 90s.

    It’s a plausible theory but remans just that. The recent Norwegian research which shows that CO2 has reached saturation point demonstrates the futility of shooting ourselves in the foot. And there’s counter evidence that it might just be a load of nonsense. At most NZ should follow the lead of our trading partners. Make a big noise if you have to but don’t spend any more than the minimum. And protect NZ agriculture!

Zelensky said the following:

1. Russia have AirPower superiority.
2. Russia have manpower superiority.
3. Ukraine have a serious lack of ammo, particularly the critical 155mm shells
4. Russia have recently breached the front line in the east and are advancing west.
5. Despite all this, Ukraine are winning the war and have killed 5 times as many Russians vs Ukraine deaths. Over 400,000 Russians have been killed.
6. Ukraine will never surrender. A new offensive will soon begin and they will push Russia out of Ukraine.
7. The world wants peace.

    Yep, this scam (Ukraine) is now a lot worse than the Global Boiling scam IMO. If Zelensky keeps on throwing unequipped armies into the meat grinder he will quite soon have nothing left to defend the west of his country. But he is not going to give up by the sounds of it.

  The stupid thing with the 155mm shells is that you could spit out about 20 a day using a $100k CNC lathe and billet steel, at a cost of a few hundred $ each. $50 million worth of lathes available almost immediately could solve Ukraines ammo shortage at far lower cost. (155mm shells are currently going for $2-8k USD)
  
  But the arms industry is so fixated on business-as-usual expensive and years-long lead billion dollar shell forging + machining factories created using slow-moving western industrial base that they haven’t stopped to consider fast to implement manufacturing processes with slightly higher production costs. Or perhaps they are aware but prefer the cost plus profits of building big ammo factories

  I have a cousin and her family living in Dunblane and our first visit there was in September 1977. Have been back several times since.
  
  One of my cousins granddaughters was in the school corridor waiting to enter the room where it all happened. She (the grandaughter) committed suicide about 10/12 years ago reason being attributed to the trauma of that day.

      I think we need to look at the directions departments went with their ministers. Take the Real Estate Authority. Under their minister Kiri Allan, Māori indoctrination came into the profession.   The opposite happened where I worked years ago. Labour government elected and Norm Kirk told his new Ministers not to take any nonsense from public servants. New Electricity Minister succumbed to lobbying from Greenies etc and ordered the Department to put limitations on hydro station operations. The Assistant General Manager knew better than to argue and would telephone the hydro station superintendents directly to tell them the restrictions that had to be applied. After several months the oil bill for the Marsden Power Station went through the roof, and at a time when oil was in short supply on the world markets and prices were high. Treasury told the Finance Minister something had to be done and the hapless Minister was sidelined and the restrictions eased. Yes the public servants did exactly what they were told to, never mind that the Minister did not see it coming.

Over the years, Bellingcat’s team has shared new tools and techniques with the help of the wider open source community. They’ve been invaluable in our investigations on Ukraine. Here are five particularly innovative examples:
It’s all in the stitching. While camouflage patterns match, the way that camouflage fabric is cut, arranged and stitched can help identify specific uniforms. Bellingcat researcher Michael Sheldon used this technique to investigate a redacted photo of a man holding a severed head in Syria. The same uniform had been worn by a notorious Russian neo-Nazi who fought in eastern Ukraine.

Look at the smoke. NASA’s FIRMS tool detects anomalous heat signatures, many of which can be caused by military activity. As Michael found in the same piece, a large smoke plume in an image can provide a clue as to when it was taken by searching the area on FIRMS.

Pierce through the clouds. When ships turn off their transponders and ‘go dark’, they disappear from online ship tracking websites. When it’s cloudy, you may not see them on satellite imagery. So when tracking a Russian ship smuggling stolen Ukrainian grain which had disappeared in this way, we used Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). Much like a bat emits ‘sonar’ to detect images in its path, this satellite data can show the lay of the land even in the darkest moments.

Save often, save early. Useful footage online is often deleted. Sometimes it’s the user, sometimes it’s the platform, as such content violates standards on violent imagery. This is where our auto-archiver tool comes in, saving crucial imagery documenting civilian harm in Ukraine and other warzones worldwide.

Cut those corners. Geolocation is a game of patience, but the Open Street Map Search Tool by our colleague Logan Williams allows you to narrow down a search area by selecting visible features listed in Open Street Map. It’s also been invaluable in our work on Ukraine and Russia.

I have been thinking today about my “ white privalage “. What I don’t understand is why all those who are part white, part Maori and feel that they are underprivileged don’t just identify as white and become part of the privileged class. As a side benefit they would also extend their health outcomes, live longer, increase their pay and lessen their chance of going to jail. It would. Seem a no brained.     For starters, it makes no mention of his Ngati Tama and Ngati Mutunga ancestors – those folk who in 1835 invaded, butchered or enslaved, and on occasion ate, the majority of Moriori who up until that time were living peacefully on the Chathams – wisely regarded as New Zealand’s only known example of genocidal acts.
    
    Jackson’s ties are so strong he represented and spoke of behalf of both those Iwi at the Moriori Claims Settlement ceremonies in 2021.

While our media hypes up NZ technology, the big boys overseas are putting up real money.

Japan has just promised Taiwanese chip fabricator TSMC additional subsidies equivalent to $NZ7.8 billion.

The new funds were announced yesterday at the opening of TSMC’s first fabrication plant in Japan.

Reuters says the subsidies will lift the total investment in the two plants to more than $NZ32.2 billion.

Japan is also building what the agency calls a home-grown chip venture, named Rapidus, in Hokkaido.

TSMC, the world’s biggest chip firm after recently overtaking Intel and Samsung, does not design chips but manufactures them for design firms. Such producers’ plants are called “fabs,” for fabricators, or “foundries,” an old term copied from the iron and steel industry.

TSMC’s growth has been helped by Taiwan’s smart response to the Covid epidemic. Taiwan kept its businesses – and schools – open and working throughout.

TSMC is also developing two fabs in Arizona in an $NZ64.5 billion investment. TSMC has pushed out the opening date of the first plant from this year to next year, blaming lack of specialised labor, licensing issues, and COVID-19.

The only chipmaker based in the US, Global Foundries, has received a $NZ2.4 billion US Government grant to set up a “fab” in New York state.

  Intel manufactures chips at four US foundries it owns. It has another six overseas, with another two planned (in Germany and Poland). Its production has still been overtaken by TSMC.

Promptly got 331 comments all calling out Robertson for the damage he has caused nz.

So the Nzh editor promptly removes any trace of that article off their front page of their website and comments are closed.
That just tells me the public interest media bribe fund is alive and kicking. Didn’t someone say these blunt instruments have been paid up till 2026 by Labour. They are clearly hoping like hell the left get back in at the next election.

Recently – Otago University – the oldest in NZ, and founded with pure Scottish history by new immigrants – my ‘Alma Mater’ for my 6 years undergraduate study in Medicine, and where 2 grandchildren are recent graduates and 2 are presently attending there – has recently – ‘wait for it’ -unbelievably announced a name change to that of the invented Māori title of ‘Otakou Whakaihu’. Of course, Māori had a lot to do with the foundation of Otago University in 1869 – like ‘zilch’ !!!

TODAY we also hear the news that previous Deputy PM and Minister of Finance, Grant Roberson – after destroying our economy and putting NZ into a huge unbelievable debt position – is leaving politics to take up the position of no less than Vice Chancellor (the CEO) of the University of Otago !

One has to wonder as to the University of Otago Council who made these two decisions.

2. Today we also learn that St. John of NZ – now renamed ‘Hato Hone’ by its ‘Knights of St John’ administrators, is having to cut back on its services (largely government funded anyway) because of financial difficulties. It is understood that many longtime annual donors – including my family for 40 years- have ceased their contributions because of the change to a Māori name – which St John officially refuses to alter.

Can we believe that this ancient ‘order’ was founded by Monks in Jerusalem in about 1080 to provide first aid, healthcare, and support – especially to many pilgrims- and is a movement established in about 40 countries worldwide. My postgraduate teaching hospital in London founded in 1805 has had a 200 Year history of mutual cooperation with that of the St John hospital in Jerusalem.

We can see how intimately NZ Māori has had such an association with St John, that its name here has such justification to be now changed to ‘Hato Hone’ – with such tragic financial results !

  I lived and worked in Auckland in the late 1960s:
  when S & C had a sale in those days it was a REAL event.
  Also, Friday afternoons and evenings in Queen St. were a social occasion and the hotels did very well.

  Look how wide the footpath is, ironic really as I thought Queen St was dead with not much foot traffic. Good though to keep a wide berth from the hobos.

Against my better judgement I watched a bit of the 3rd T20 today: if the Aussie bowlers Ellis and Johnson play in the test series NZ are in big trouble.
