The NZ Herald has a profile of the MP for Tauranga, which is a good read.

Bob’s main issue seems to be his reluctance to lie. Can’t see him lasting.

The Dithering old fool (Clarkson) is well due for retirement. I can see he would make a good neighbour for old Digger Don in Q-land.
I liked this piece from Clarkson the so called
Actually his real private member’s bill submitted for the ballot would allow …..
“New Zealanders to build their own homes, licensed or unlicensed.”
Now this comes from the National Partie associate housing, building and construction spokesman ( Clarkson) Looking into the leaky homes debarkel??
Vote:??
Heck the National Party must be desperate for spokespeople, at least they only gave the old codger Clarkson the “associates” role.
Clarkson has proved just what a real joke he is! Bob Parliament can only have one clown and I’m afraid Rodney Hide has that job! retire Bob before the guys in white coats come to pick you up!
June 26th, 2006 at 12:25 pm
Some of us who werent fooled by his ‘homely, family guy’ image werent fooled into voting for him. We predicted that he was just there for his ‘peoples friend’ vote to oust Winston and once elected, relegated to tea making duties for three years. “Yes, Bob, Im sure that would work” would be the most common responce to his ideas.

Vote:June 26th, 2006 at 2:18 pm
There you go again. Bob will win the seat handsdomly. The only niggle is a possible deal with Labour about standing a candidate. But Tauranga is blue ribbon National and Bob I predict will have a 10,000+ vote majority in 2008.
Vote:June 26th, 2006 at 3:22 pm
poor old cadmus, the fact bob has positively affects more lives in 1 week than you will ever really grates doesn’t it? Winnie’s long gone, and will never regain tauranga, let alone break 5%. The real question will be which poodle will you be supporting in 2009?
Vote:June 26th, 2006 at 4:07 pm

Well known fact about property developers that is, all they live for is to do good for others!
Vote:June 26th, 2006 at 5:37 pm
Don Brash has called him a rough diamond. I forget the specifics, but wasn’t he rather prone to talk about his genitals?
Vote:June 26th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
Im a bit surprised that Bob sees his ideal job as a parliamentary under secretary scruitinising construction tenders?
That sort of thing went out with Muldoon, as famously Piggy or his cronies would just find some feature to delete, which would have to be put back in 15 years later at a cost equivalent to the original job.
Bob doesnt seem to realise that Ministers have very little operational control over departments and none whatso ever over construction contracts.
Having said that, I hope Bob really crushes some nuts over the cost of new prisons. The costs of them are a total scandal. When a 5 star hotel in the centre of Auckland with 450 rooms can sell for $96 million ( I presume without the land underneath) but a new womens prison way out in Wiri can cost $190 million. And this is a low rise low security place. The cost of other prisons is even worse and those are in rural locations. For $190 million I would have thought we could have got a 2500 cell building to replace Mt Eden.

Sonic – well as Bob over turned a 10,000 majority for Peters I guess a lot of voters feel he has done a lot of good for others.
Vote:June 26th, 2006 at 7:00 pm
Sonic said “Well known fact about property developers that is, all they live for is to do good for others!”
Why the jealousy Sonic? I imagine the only thing that you have ever risked is wrist strain. People like you always put down people who have made money. People who have risked everything they own to make that money in the first place. Voters like Clarkson because he took risks and made himself a bundle, was not born with a spoon in his mouth and doesn’t spend his life encumbered by the ideological baggage the prevents you socialists from making anything.

Clarkson is simply proof that in the provinces, the local lord can get elected by adusing their semi-feudal powers to purchase the result. Along with Chris Tremain, Clarkson has purchased a seat to play at politics.
The National Party appears to welcome the return of rigged elections and feudal nobles buying their seats.
The party of the snobbish, anal and dreary tory squatocracy has moved on to become the party of the crass, sexist and boorish railroad barons.
Vote:June 27th, 2006 at 7:23 am
Good old TomS full of his old Labour prejudices. The only seat buying goes on in the Labour Party with Union officials pressurising their members to vote Labour and they take money out of their pay packets and “donate” that money to the Labour Party. And them makes them members of the Labour Party and “vote” on their behalf by way of card votes at Labour Party conferences and selection committees for their candidates.

Your right Sonic. The game Brash/Hide were playing was we are for the average NZer, which the people worked out was a crook of Cr*p. I doubt Brash won’t be around to much longer and a swing back to the middle will take place, National/ACT used the divide and rule using the Maori as a football, but this backfired! They also tried bash the beneficary, trouble is a working person no matter your status could also end up on a benefit through no fault of their own. BTW I’m “not” on a benefit either!
Vote:This also backfired. National know they have no policy other than divide and rule. They tried and failed. I doubt they will follow that path next election. I also believe with common sence Policy Labour & others could still be in power after the next election.

Bob gave away most of his wealth when he donated the Stadium to the people of Tauranga and the Mount. He is an outstanding philanthropist and is in sharp contrast to mealy mouth dicks like sonic and TomS.He is very down to earth and when building something always gets his hands real dirty working with his crew. In other words he is everything Labour is not, and that is , a man of the people, for the people. He will be their MP for a long time.

Sonic Said: “Some people never learn that in democracy the rich only get the one vote same as the poor, and there are a lot more of us.”
You’re right Sonic there are a lot more poor than there are rich in this country and unfortunatley its growing.
Just look around South Auckland (Where I live). The general lives of those in this area isn’t getting better despite all the welfare payments.
Kids are still being sent off to school without breakfast, shoes and the basics. The Adults are no longer sitting around their homes during the day on an unemployment benefit but are instead now sitting around their homes on a sickness benefit. And whats labours answer pour more benefits into the area such as working for families.
I’m not going to say National (or any other party) has the answer to this issue as lets be honest the ‘South Auckland’ syndrome has been in place at least the last 30 years (my lifetime) but as a labour stronghold and former home of a Labour PM you would think that they would be able make some sort of an improvement wouldn’t you?

Not who I am, who who gave someone what award when or how much my cat gave to charity last week.
So Mr Miller to you wish to back up David’s claim, or are you just throwing mud to save him from embarrasment?
If you do not wish to answer just throw out more ad hominem chaff and we will be able to take that as an admission that Bobby did not “give away most of his wealth”

sonic, let me type slowly so you are clear. You asked if I have figures, well yes I do. But that doesnt mean I will share them with you. The figures dont change the fact he gave them a stadium.

I last recall hearing that line of debate in the school playground David, thank you for sparking off such nostalgic memories.
You know what though, and you will laugh, see the little kid who claimed he had the proof but would not show us it, turned out he was just making it all up!
Hard to believe I know.

Now now sonic, stop behaving like a spoiled child who cant get his way. Playground indeed. .
Vote:A question for you: How much do you think the stadium is worth?$5 million? $17 Million? Is that a lot to give away? You know very well that if you wanted to, you could refer to the MPs declaration as to their assets. Do some work and figure it out for yourself instead of whining all the time when others let you remain ignorant. And still a dick.
June 27th, 2006 at 2:38 pm
And people say the right-wing don’t know how to debate!
Lets keep going then David, why should I do any work when you have all the facts to hand to prove your ludicrous claim.
Oh I forgot, you refuse to tell us as you are letting me remain ignorant as a punishment….

sonic says “why should I do any work”. Sums it up really.Too lazy to think.Well Bob did do some work. A lifetime of work. Then he gifted the fruit of his efforts away and it is churlish to disparage his generosity with the mealy mouth politics of envy you subscribe to.
Vote:June 27th, 2006 at 3:16 pm
sonic, here , let me help you. I’m starting to feel sorry for you.
Vote:1. What is the stadium worth?
2. What is the value of Bobs assets on his declaration?
3. If 1 is a lot more than 2, then isnt that “most of his wealth” like I say.
June 27th, 2006 at 3:24 pm
Come on then David, quantify it then. How much is Bob the Builder’s personal fortune worth? How much of it did he give away as part of the stadium? How much was it worth before?
Surely you don’t think you can get away with making a claim with absolutely zero supporting evidence…?
Vote:June 27th, 2006 at 3:31 pm
You have to admire David’s whole new line in logical argument. He makes a stupid statement then demands that someone else prove it for him.
Truly one could not make it up.

Not really worried about the real property – more the trusts, and directorships…
Speedways and construction companies… Did he develop those after the stadium did he?
Face it, you said something that you hadn’t thought through.

Clarkson himself reckoned that the cost of the stadium consents was just under a million dollars. Most of that would have been before a spade went into the ground. Whether Clarkson gave 10%, 50% or 90% of his wealth is irrelevent. He did, in effect, give away a substantial amount of money for a facility that the locals love. Sonic – how much, as a percentage, of your income do you give? Would it get you an award for philanthropy? If you live in Wellington I would like to meet you, if for nothing else to confirm the mental picture I have of you – a miserable, arrogant little twat. And that was meant as a personal attack.
Vote:June 28th, 2006 at 1:01 pm
weizguy,The stadium is the speedway.A construction company is a trading entity, only as good as current contracts held. I guess I’m in the position where while I have good information I will not disclose the source to prove it. Over to you if you believe me or not.Whether I thought it through or not doesnt change the fact that what he gave away is worth a great deal of money. And he is a hell of a guy for doing it.Partisanship aside, you have to admire him for it.

Seeing as I think your hypothesis is an unlikely one, and since you seem to be speculating wildly, I’m unlikely to take your word for it – especially seeing as you appear to be retreating from your original position:
“Whether I thought it through or not doesnt change the fact that what he gave away is worth a great deal of money.”
You don’t want to identify the source? At this stage i’d settle for the evidence.
I’m happy to accept that he gave a lot of money away, and I respect him for that. My problem is with your attempt to pass off hyperbole as fact.
The best thing that Clarkson’s election will do for NZ is the evaluation of the current electoral spending laws, which enabled him to procure services at far less than market rates.

Something about his left testicle, and rumour has it he also clutched his groin in front of a female reporter. But hey, at least he didn’t clutch the reporter’s groin, and maybe, just maybe, he was doing Michael Jackson’s Beat it at Karaoke?
“Clarkson is simply proof that in the provinces, the local lord can get elected by adusing their semi-feudal powers to purchase the result.”
I really think Winston lost the election rather than Clarkson won it in his own right. Pretty much anyone could have stood against Winston & won.
“You never see any leftie type giving away wealth, ever. Look at Bill Gates and Warren Buffet giving away billions. That kind of philanthropy is beyond the comprehension of any leftie.”
