What a surprise!

July 26th, 2006 at 2:18 pm by David Farrar

Margaret Wilson has just announced to the House that she will not be referring Taito Phillip Field to the Privileges Committee. Looks like he may get off scot-free unless Clark and Labour can be shamed into taking some sort of action. I wouldn’t hold my breath though.

A true disgrace.

Is that why they call them a “party”?

Worse things to revel about I reckon!

On a more serious note… I’m actually surprised.

So far I’m running at around 100% on this issue, whitewash enquiry, and no referral to the privileges committee. I have absolutely no illusions about Labour, and especially about Margaret bloody Wilson. However, I am not convinced that the PC was the appropriate way to go, an impartial Royal Commission is the best way to clear the stench of corruption away.

But, I am not at all surprised, when you have no morals, everything you do reflects that.

Now let’s see the Labour partisan’s especially Russell, decry this piece of evasion.

The one thing that really amazes me about Kiwis, is how gullible they are. I am not being nasty but I truly believe that the last election was the last chance for democracy in NZ. This has to be the final proof that this government will do anything to stay in power. Clark has passed the tipping point and knows that she can do anything.

The sad thing is that I was speaking to an old digger yesterday and he told me with tears in his eyes about fighting for NZ (I served and saw active service as well and we were talking about the forces rather than NZ.) The point was that he is and will always be a die hard labour supporter. He does not like what he sees but believes that the old Labour honesty and kiwi blue collar ethics will win through. How very very sad. I am afraid that will never happen.

I am fundamentally opposed to Parliament attempting to determine its membership however naughty an MP is – it is a right that should be exercised at the very very last resort. The Police/SFO should deal with any issue of dishonesty. Saving that, the voters of Mangere should be invited to through the bum out if Labour persists on re-selecting him.

Power corrupts so I am hardly surprised, but we trust that the system will will pick it up when it happens. A grateful constituent will overlook a few foibles here and there but TPF has been well and truly snapped and Mrs Peter Davis faster than a Canterbury boyracer on testosterone boost has outdone herself this time. I fingered RB because when he supported sending TPF to the priveleges committee, that convinced me that a deal had already been stitched up with MW so he wouldn’t be so sent. I dislike subscribing to conspiracy theories, but when they allow so many accurate predictions and make such obvious sense…

I would advise against going to the police, they are, it seems, so scared of crossing our dear leader that they are more likely to charge you with sedition than to listen to any words against a sainted and culturally appropriate MP. As for the SFO, that would just about guarantee Field getting off. The SFO makes a total balls up of almost everything they touch these days.

That said, if Labour won the election I would be off to Aussie immediately. Leaving the this corruption tolerant country to the corrupt Govt they have re elected. But then again I’d always back National over Labour if advertising spending rules were enforced, as we were told they would be when there was no action taken over the recent prima facie case…. It’s all corruption Fred, we should not tolerate any of it. To do so is to condone it.

There is absolutely no evidence that the 2000 election was stolen no matter how much the left loves this meme. For the record, a consortium of US newspapers (from the left and right of the political spectrum) paid over $1million for the vote recount (that the Supreme Court stopped) to be finished. Bush still won Florida by 600 votes, pretty much the result on election night. The US Constitution still decides the Presidency via the Electoral College and so all of Florida’s EC votes went to Bush. The left avoids mentioning the fact that the Democrat stacked Florida Supreme court refused to allow a count of some 17,000 absentee ballots from serviceman abroad nor the early call by TV networks in favour of Gore on election night before the polls closed in the Panhandle (that is in a different time zone). Poll clerks throughout the Panhandle (the area in FL with the highest percentage of the Republican vote) reported virtually nil foot traffic from 6pm onwards after the networks called FL for Gore.

National is contemplating a motion of no confidence in the Speaker. It seems to me they will have to follow this through, but only if her ruling is really that dodgy. On that I am sure plenty of advice is being sought. The party, particularly with Chris Finlayson, Doug Graham and Paul East, has plenty of legal parliamentary heavy hitters to get a definitive answer on that.

One thing coming through loud and clear is the Empress lesbos and her band of newted fools have out stayed their welcome, (for any lefties out there I am indeed speaking about “YOUR” leader and Labour). Just in case you missed the connection.

The NZ legal system doesn’t apply to this lot as we see again in the case of Phillip Field, Pledge cards, forged paintings, drunken cabin ate ministers, etc etc.
Then we have the blatant smash and grab attitude in regard to tax collection and spending.

This Govt syphons off billions of dollars of over taxation, then redistributes it back into the economy at costs that far exceed those of the private sector to achieve the same task, Oh that’s right the Unions needed payback through their ranks being bolstered by the introduction of replenished numbers of bureaucrats.
The Govt crows about NZ having the lowest unemployment rate in years, no shit Sherlock, but none of these people are in revenue creating positions, a large proportion of them are in the group listed above.

I did vote for Labour at the last and previous election… and I havent been so worried about Doone/Pope/painter-gate, etc….. sure, they didnt look good, and showed up issues… but on the whole, I still prefered their policies to the Nats…

But this complete cover-up over what is truely scandalous, has me ready to vote National just to get rid of those responsible. They’ve gone one step too far…

If I’ve changed my mind, I’m sure there’s many others of us “middle folk” who could swung… and its the hearts and minds of the middle you need to get to go your way if you want change, because you surely wont be getting the people with deeply held polar opposite views to change…

But you’ve also set yourselves up with a problem… I know many who arent paying much attention on this issue, because they perceive it to be just more shit-kicking from the opposition…. All the previous ruckus over issues that ultimately just werent that big a deal have led you to the position where many who could well be turned are just thinking its the boy crying “wolf”….

On a more serious note, I would say to the doubters that the NZ “system” works. Whilst Labour may not have covered itself in glory there is no doubt that:

    1. PTF has been well and truely exposed.
    2. His political future is toast.

Given that it appears he has not done anything illegal and he himself is not prepared to do the honourable thing and resign it I think this is a reasonable result.

I noticed Fred’s comment above ” for some reason this pisses me off more than a harmless forged painting”. Well, Christ, I thought the painting was the end of the world according to you guys. If I thought the Labour Govt last was corrupt, then they have hit completely new heights in the 12 months since slipping back in to office.
The NZ parliament has a stench about it these days that would befit an abattoirs.
I would hazard a guess that Tony Soprano would be quite impressed with the skill in which this group have gone about their work. I just hope like hell the paper trail is accurate enough in the end to hold some of these people accountable.

Kiwi’s are the type of people to forgive when in fact someone should be put to the sword.
The chances of holding anyone to account in the current NZ legal climate would be less than getting the Murderer of the Kahui babies into court.
