18,000 cases on hold

I was stunned to read that there are 18,000 court cases on hold primarily because defendents have not turned up or fled while on bail.

Hence it makes a lot of sense to liberalise the bail laws even further, as the Government is doing.  Not.  And the consequences are sometimes tragic.
