Telecom to set up ISP for business customers Add this story to Scoopit!.

This looks to be a smart move by Telecom – a dedicated ISP for business customers. Business needs are different to home user needs, and the Xtra brand is more focused in the consumer retail market.

The key deciders will be their pricing plans and their service levels, but it is a good idea in terms of meeting customer needs.

Maybe they’ll use different spam control systems – ones that don’t send business mail into Xtra’s black hole.

It will be interesting to see what sort of price premium the SME market will tolerate in return for business-friendly services

Currently entering week 13 in trying to get telecom/yahoo to fix their crap email system.

    My latest email from yahoo:

The server should have a fully qualified hostname (FQDN). [DOES] The hostname
should resolve to an A record. [DOES] (DNS) The IP address should resolve to
the server domain name. [DOES] (RDNS) The MX record for the domain for which
you wish to receive mail should point to the domain name of your
dedicated mail server. [DOES] There should be a PTR record for the IP address
    of your server.[DOES]

Yahoo even agree that the email server is correctly configured. Still 100% of emails to xtra customers get SPAMMED, but of course the poor customer still gets spam in their in box. Yahoo’s SpamGuard is c***.

But the real interesting thing is that xtra is not an isp!
Xtra has not access to it’s own email system.

So my advice to xtra customers, specially business… don’t!

I think some people are getting a little emotional abut all of this. The idea is to provide SMEs (and with an emphasis on the “S” there) with an end to end service where they can acquire a domain name, create a simple site, have it hosted etc etc. With regards the pricing, it should be mre efficient (and cheaper with a total cost analysis) to obtain services from one provider – I think the idea is sound.

Well since, thanks to Telecoms new Spam email crap system, we may expect several thousand more viagra, cialis and porn ads.
    No thanks.
