Eye to Eye
October 13th, 2008 at 10:00 am by David FarrarI’ve waited a long time for someone to actually point out the reality behind Winston’s bluster, and both Matthew Hooton and Barry Soper did so on Eye to Eye, which you can watch below in three parts.
If you do not have time for the full show, just watch this part.
Part Two.
Part Three.

OK I’m still watching the whole thing, but here is a little snippett that pretty much sums up our problem. Winston complains that he thought this program he was going to be on, was going to be “non-partisan”, and I think we can hear Hootten vainly trying to say something to the effect that he is “the only one………(and the rest is inaudible).
Look at Willie Jackson’s performance throughout. If Hootten WASN’T on this show, would it be a “non-partisan” program aimed at truth and fairness?

Willie Jackson was a pretty dismal host. He did a fair job of refereeing what was always going to be a hot debate. But his comments about how the SFO had “exonerated” Winnie suggest that he hadn’t done his research properly before the show. Soper & Hooten are quite right in saying that the fraud inquiry has just clarified that what Winnie had really done was repeatedly lie on his electoral returns. Willie seems not to have grasped that, or followed that thinking towards asking Winnie why big business donors like the Velas and Simunovichs gave him money, and what they expected from Winnie in return.
We’re still waiting for the media to really shine the spotlight on Winnie and ask the tough questions. Willie’s not the guy who’s going to do that.

What’s also crystal clear from this show is that Winnie and Doug Woolerton’s grasp of economics is bloody tenuous. That this man served (nearly) 3 years as Treasurer is a disgrace.

I watched eye to eye Sunday for the first time because I knew this would be on and I am totally unimpressed by slick Willy.
He summed his intelligence up nicely when he said at the end (paraphrase) that he hoped Peters makes it back due to his entertainment value. Good one willy. Let’s finish fucking the country just so you can be entertained. Idiot award winning comment.
Peters was all bluff , bluster and misdirection. The problem is he does it so well that it’s not surpising that the less intelligent members of society fall for it. Supreme Liar award winning performance.
Good on Hooten for saying how he feels to Winstons face. That’s courage that not enough members of the media show. Balls of the week award winner.
Now if only someone in a position to do so would tell Helen what a crooked nasty piece of work she is.
I would love to have watched the before and after show performance. I can’t imagine they were sharing a drink and laughing about much.

What a shit-show. Willie Jackson’s facts were all wrong, he bumbled, grinned and bullshitted his way through chairing that debate and ended up looking like a simple little hori maori boy from down on the marae, not an astute, prepared host at all.
Hooton whinged and blustered his way through that show with his high pitched, whiny voice, and squandered opportunities to make hits on Winston by asking him questions? WTF? Any half wit should know what a waste of time it is asking Winston to ‘explain’. He simply brushes off the question and rants on a subject of his choice. Idiots.
Soper was more credible and measured, but still gave winston an easy ride.
They should have made him look like a fool, pointed out the contradictions and lies he has told over the past month. They should have condemned his xenophobia. They should have pointed out his lies about not being at Karaka in 2006- shit there’s so much ammo and they didn’t use any of it.
Winston’s skill is that he takes control of the interview. He sets the agenda, if you give him space, which they did. All in all, I’d say the show was a great advertisement for Winston. Thanks Matthew!

Willie has been defending Winnie for months on RadioLive – so no surprises he would be in Winnie’s camp on this program. Reminded me of Jenny Shipley/Helen Clark debate hosted by John Campbell. Everytime Jenny Shipley got through one sentence, John would cut across her and allow Helen to say whatever she wanted. Put me off both Helen Clark and John Campbell. Similarly – enjoy JT on RadioLive but Willie is a leftie bully boy.

I’ve got no particular personal gripe with Willie. He wants Labour to win the election. He wants the racist Maori Party to help Labour win. He uses his position as a “commentator” to pursue those objectives. He doesn’t pretend to be what he isn’t. Can’t say the same for Soper, who has for years presented himself as an objective commentator when he is in fact a hard leftist whose every commentary has always been tinged with subliminal left wing propaganda.
Hooten is a fool. Sure guys, Winston needs to be called on his never ending bullshit, but its not brave of Hooten to do what he did and it certainly wasn’t smart. Not politically anyway. All he’s done is given ammunition to the left’s multitude of mainstream media propagandists. They’re ever ready to portray the perceived right as hate filled and dangerous and incapable of reasonable discourse, and Hooten has helped them out in a way they’ll always thank him for.
Putting strategy aside, its actually a comment on the sad state of political discussion overall in NZ when such dickwads as Mathew “Brian’s doing a good job” Hooten and Barry “Goebbells” Soper are regarded as someone whose views are worth television time. Just the same old same old that’s been dominating the political discourse for decades. Hooten the pathetic limp wristed anti-Conservative pseudo liberal posing as a right winger, and Soper the pathetic liberal leftist posing as a centrist.
Yawn. Will Guy Espinor be pushing his left wing shit when he’s propped up by a walking stick? Will Kerre Woodham be yabbering from her wheelchair. Will Sainsbury be bringing commentary from a studio built into his retirement villa? Will Paul Holmes be broadcasting from his fucken grave??
Bring on Mark Steyn, Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity. Enough of this soviet style political favourites only propaganda. To hell with all of the Chavez style deceiving Marxist evangelists in NZ’s mainstream media. Turn the worthless propagandizing charlatans off until they’re managers are prepared to give us some real diversity of opinion.

Redbaiter
I am flabbergasted. You don’t have a problem with Willie Jackson? How can you possibly say that? Did you even see his trainwreck of a performance? The man is a fanatical leftist activist pushing for New Zealand to become 100% identical to the USSR, as opposed to the 80% it is now. Christ, the fact that the man is honest about his repulsive views and fanatical hatred of whites is not worthy of praise, Redbaiter! I’m surprised at you!

The version that screened was not edited in any way, that’s as it was recorded. The 1st version which had a few more fireworks and was ‘cut’ is still in the hands of the programs director, to do with as he pleases.

TVNZ should cut this programme. There was little value in the whole thing. While Willie may think Matthew’s style and comments “make great TV” and was probably more than happy to have him say these things, there was little to lift the tone of the political debate in this country. What a missed opportunity by all.

“You don’t have a problem with Willie Jackson?”
What I actually said was – “I’ve got no particular personal gripe with Willie.” I haven’t. Sure, he’s a communist and a racist and he wants to steal my money and give it to people who think like him and thereby pervert the democratic process and through his ignorance take away our liberty and destroy our civilization, but its actually a democracy here, and Willie has the right to be whoever/ whatever he wants and as long as he’s up front about it, then that’s fine.
Its not the same as the lying charlatan Obama (for example), who wants everything that Willie wants but is trying to conceal that from voters. I spit on Barack. Willie deserves at least a bit of credit for his candour.
Vote:October 13th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
The problem with people like Willie Jackson and John Campbell having a stranglehold on show hosting in NZ, is that people like Redbaiter who understand where they are coming from are in the minority, and stupid, stupid, stupid voters who think that people like these are a reliable guide to their judgement, are a majority.
Then there is the fact that the lying charlatan Obama is aided and abbetted in his lying charlatanism by not only the Willie Jacksons and John Campbells and Frank Riches and Maureen Dowd’s, but by so-called “centre right moderates”, people like Farrar and Soper.
I don’t know what it will take to bring people in NZ to utterly mistrust the media “establishment” and seek alternatives, NZ is woefully lacking in alternatives like Mark Steyn and Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. By the way, Redbaiter, you’d love Melanie Phillips postings over the last few weeks on Obama: titles like “Fraud We can Believe In” and “Absence of Candour We Can Believe In” and “Revolution We Can Believe In”…..

Phil, agree with what you say, but it’s unfair to categorise Mr. Farrar with that propagandist Soper. Don’t forget Mr. Farrar is responsible for the spectacularly successful Kiwiblog, a leading outlet in the medium that has been at the vanguard of challenging left wing TV and newspapers and radio and their domination of mainstream news in NZ.
Mr. Farrar too stands head and shoulders among many in the blogosphere claiming to represent the right and true liberalism. Like you, I’m sometimes puzzled by some of his views, especially when he’s been to places like the Reagan museum, but hell, we’ve all got our little quirks of irrationality. We wouldn’t be people otherwise, we’d just be Vulcans. Mr. Farrar provides an admirable source of free speech here in a country that is rapidly going down hill in that regard. He deserves maximum credit, and he’s light years away from Soper.
As for the views you disagree with- just keep chipping away- he’ll see sense in the end.
BTW, Melanie is great I agree, but to our great misfortune, relatively unknown amongst those who vote for Obama and the like. Read Steyn’s latest column on the issue. It deals with the typically vacuous mind of the average astonishingly politically ignorant leftist/ Obama supporter. You’ll get (as usual) a lot of laughs.

Redbaiter, your love for Willie Jackson continues to astound me.
This is a man who wants to steal, imprison and indirectly kill the innocent. The fact that he wants to do it through government and not through the more traditional method of robbing a liquor store is novel but not to be applauded. We are a democracy, but that doesn’t mean people can take whatever despicable actions they want as long as they are honest. If I brutally rape a woman and admit to it the next day, is that ‘fine’ with you? I seriously doubt it, and nor should Willie Jackson’s thirst for dictatorship be, but apparently it is. Quite astounding.
People like Stalin and Hitler were possessed of great volumes of candour and made no bones of their burning need to degrade human existence with their leftist agenda. If you mean that Willie Jackson deserves the same ammount of approval that they do, then I agree.

RBaiter, PBest enough ranting, some reality:
1) Obama is far more charasmatic, talented and competent than McCain could ever be. McCain’s economic credentials in a time of crisis are zip. The right wing nasty evangelical wing of the GOP have hijacked it for far too long. I am a National voter and would vote Obama in any day (as 2/3rds of National voters would pursuant to a recent poll). The only GOP primary candidate worth supporting was Giuliani. The light (& soft) regulation and corporate welfaristic policies of the GOP are one of the primary causes of the current crisis. Mccain is (too his misfortune and to his own economic inadequacy) tarred by the same brush.
2) Hooten probably could have done better but boy he showed balls. He was also up against it given Willie’s pathetic performance. Why rip into Hooten? Is it because he is not a neo-conservative like the both of you. Shame as that was a disgusting personal attack. I’m sick of your cr*p comments to be honest.

What on earth was Woolerton there for? Asked to account for the party’s failure to comply with the EFA he says “I read in the paper that people in a new job have problems taking over”.
And hasn’t Winston taught him to do up his jacket, pull down his cuffs and not slouch like he’s sitting on a hay bale at a barn dance? It was like watching a re-run of “Gomer Pyle”. “Well goll – lee, Mister Jackson, sir, I plum dunno what happened to all that money. Maybe I left it in mah footlocker”.
Doesn’t Winston ever stop and look at Woolerton, Brown, Mark and the others and reflect that this is the cream of the crop that follows him, and on what that says about what he’s allowed the party to become?

Hey sheep, when New Zealand declares bankruptcy soon, as did Iceland and people’s life savings will buy them dinner overnight, as happened in Russia as there is nothing to save the Kiwi economy (farming and tourism, yeah right) and when you call the police as your home is being broken into and no one responds, well, I don’t think many people are going to care about Winston Peter’s alleged indiscretions. That white guy seemed a bit gay to me.
And remember, innocent until proven guilty. At least the money wasted on the investigations is worth something at the moment. Be proud pf that.
I wrote a lil’ pome,
It goes a bit like this,
Feel free to baaah and bleat along as you wish:
THE NATION OF SHEEP
Follow the leader
Follow the sheep
Inside the square
It’s safe to eat
We don’t like outsiders
We all like the heap
Listen to Winston
Listen to Jim
With their tightly cropped curls
Accepted black sheep
But don’t search for anything
Located too deep
If you get robbed
Just make your retreat
Then accept your defeat
Buy your petrol
Buy your meat
And you can all bleat
Baaaaastards!
The price is too steep!
Who can we blame!?
That’s easy
Vote:It’s the nation of sheep.

I thought Matthew Hooten and Barry Sopher were both brilliant in this interview. The other three (Doug, Winston and Willie the host) didn’t make one single correct or insightful comment or answer any question which was worth asking. The three of them came across as drunken fools who has just staggered home from the pub with half a brain pickled in alcohol. Whereas Matthew and Barry, when they got the chance to speak, were well informed, insightful, intelligent and patient. It’s such a shame the good guys aren’t standing for Parliament – they would both have my vote for PM quick as look. at ya.

Willie Jackson has stamped his mark as an intellectual heavyweight on the landscape of political commentary. His suggestion that the nice Mr Peters has somehow been exonerated and more particularly his plea that Mr Peters remains in Parliament because he is our “most exciting MP” evidences that he is not out of his league by comparison with the other heavyweights of of the NZ media (in no particular order of demerit: Sainsbury, Garner, Holmes, Wilson, Edwards, Plonkit & Robinson and that silly little chap with the dead cat on his head – what’s his name?? – ah yes, Hosking). All trendsetters in the murky arts of balanced and incisive journalism without being downright arrogant, obnoxious and petty.
Mr Jackson’s suggestion that “excitement” is a relevant factor by which to judge our political leaders potentially casts new light on the way in which we should regard other prominent political leaders.
Robert Mugabe is certainly able to generate excitement for those that don’t support him. There would certainly be a substantial number of Cambodians whose hearts raced under Pol Pot before being stopped prematurely. Caligula was by all accounts a bit of a party guy and exciting to be around. Joseph Stalin had the happy knack of spreading a bit of excitement around also.
In a separate but evidently related story, Mr Jackson rejected suggestions that he never slept on his side for fear that his brain would fall out through his ear. “That’s just bullshit mate!” he responded. “I sleep with ear plugs so there’s no way that could happen.”
The suggestion was also rejected by a prominent neurologist who noted that: “..after viewing the three ring circus involving Messrs Peters and Jackson, it seems clear to me that Mr Jackson does not in fact have a brain”

Sure Redbaiter, you deserve your opinion. But no one wants to read your personal attacks on Obama/Hooten and anyone who does not share your neo-con views.
Vote:PMPU, I am no leftie (cheap attack), just more moderate than you. And if DPF is a lefty, the centre of Kiwiblog’s political spectrum must be far right.
The other issue I have with these “opinions” is they are not thought out and while you have every right to make them (so long as they are not personal attacks) they simply give ammunition to the Labour loving lefties at “the Standard” to say Kiwibloggers are just a bunch of reactionary righties.
October 14th, 2008 at 11:06 am
“But no one wants to read your personal attacks on Obama/Hooten and anyone who does not share your neo-con views.”
So don’t read them fuckwit. I’ve already told you what to do about the guy with the gun.
“PMPU, I am no leftie”
This claim is clearly contradicted by your inability to take responsibility for your own actions, the ignorant ill mannered assumption that you speak for so many others, your inclination to focus on the personal rather than the real issue, and the complete lack of logic in your writing. All things typical of leftists.
