Always fun to play “find what you’re looking for” with a new site design. In the case of “Stuff” the blogs are spread all over the show.

It totally looks like, and has the same features as the Salient site launched two weeks ago that was designed by Catch Design… cept salient.org.nz is way better!

Now, if only the content was as good (or well-funded) as the packaging eh?

For get the steak, listen to the sizzle!

Another example of how the focus has gone off good journalism and accurate reporting in favour of pretty presentation and fluff.

I never liked the old Stuff and this really doesn’t seem to change my opinions.

I looked at Stuff for about 5 seconds this morning, saw the new design, then left. Fairfax have a lot of money and they waste it on a crappy design. Also tried going to http://www.stuff.co.nz on my mobile to see if they had created a decent mobile version but alas all I got was an error as the page size was too big.

Looks like theage.com.au or smh.com.au

Fairfax are going down the tubes (mainly due to a failed attempt to make money from biased media). They are probably streamlining a lot of the content out of Australia. Here they are a bit of a joke at the moment.

I don’t like the new look. It used to be very compact not needing to scroll too much and the blog links were easy to get to. Now… too much empty space, things are too spaced out.

Whoa! thems some pretty drastic changes there – obviously Fairfax saw no need for gradual integration. People don’t respond well to change, we are creatures of habit. Trying to process change of such magnitude is just going to piss people off. They’ve removed the ‘Newspaper’ tab where you could find your local rag making the site very urban-centric which won’t go down well in the smaller regions. I like the new look it’s very clean crisp but have an issue with companies who release a new version of a product that doesn’t work as well as the old one.

I like it better than it’s predecessor but not much.

It appears Fairfax once again are trying to get a universal look to all their newspaper based sites.
