Confirmed liars

July 9th, 2010 at 10:00 am by David Farrar

The Herald reports:

The Sea Shepherd group says banning Pete Bethune from its Antarctic anti-whaling missions was just a legal strategy during his trial, and the New Zealand activist is welcome to join them on future trips.

This confirms that Sea Shepherd are liars, and are happy to lie to further their aims. This should be remembered the next time they claim they did not do something.

Why can I see this story playing out like a Hollywood movie? Bethune, so wrapped up in his… well, himself, will be unable to resist the offer. He repeats his recent silliness, gets nabbed by the Japs again, and this time he goes away for a long time. Kind of a boring movie.

JG, you have the wrong script.

“He repeats his recent silliness, gets himself and six other useful idiots drowned in Antarctican waters and this time the world cheers. Kind of an inevitable ending.”

I want to know if his conviction will prevent him from entering any foreign countries.

It would serve him right if after this little revelation, the Japanese gummint seeks his extradition from NZ and makes him do his time.

Not only does this confirm that they are liars, but it also confirms that they don’t give a shit about their “peaceful protestors” carrying weapons. As if anyone believed that one anyway…

I’m more worried about the liars we have in our parliament here, on all sides, than some guys that are trying to stop the Japanese from whaling. I know which one impacts me daily.

All this really makes me wonder why these guys have you bunching your knickers up in a wee knot David. If you and others didn’t give them air, maybe they’d become less relevant?

[DPF: Yes if I stopped blogging about them, that will make them less relevant. My power is massive]

If you want people to believe in you and your cause, its pays not to lie.

Would you buy a can of food from a company who has lied on their labels?

It’s consistent with their previous stances.

    1. He did not drive his boat directly infront of the ship destrotying it himself.
    2. He will not be allowed on any future protest vessels.

The idiot is unfit to be a skipper – anyone who plays chicken on the high seas risking the lives of their crew should be banned from ever being a skipper again. The man and his legal team are a disgrace. (good cause – bad execution of protest action)

I suspect that this will cost Sea Shepherd, Bethune and other enviro groups quite an amount of support – moral and financial.

People generally don’t like being lied to or taken for a ride. People like to invest in noble ideas; causes that perhaps make them feel more worthy or imbued with more altruistic and positive traits. [A generalisation - but I don't think people adopt causes for negative reasons or to look unworthy/bad/selfish/greedy/evil...]

Sea Shepherd have just shot that to bits haven’t they?

I don’t think his book will sell many copies (other than for tinder when it ends up in the bargain bin)

What could you expect when the leader of Sea Shepherd has this philosophy

“There’s nothing wrong with being a terrorist as long as you win.

    - Paul Watson, Animal Rights 2002 Convention, June 2002

Sea Shepherd has behaved despicably in this whole business.

@ Adolf. I suspect that it will not only be the conviction which come back to haunt Bethune. He now has to tick the “Yes” box whenever he fills in an immigration card asking him if he has ever been deported from another country. Countries with a less-enlightened view to eco-terrorism will take a dim view of that.

Yes, BB, I can confidently predict the terrorist will stand for the Luddites. Unfortunately, what I’m not so sure of is this imbecile will not get elected with the votes of the many gullible and stupid around us.

The watermelon party will exploit Bethune in the hopes of raising its profile. Just a couple of days ago, Norman was on the radio celebrating Bethune’s possible return to New Zealand.

I do seriously hope the Greens keep away from Bethune. They do not need to align themselves with criminals, I would like the parliamentary organization to be the more grown-up facet of the environmental movement.

Bethune’s bad karma could seriously damage the Greens, it might even lower their polling to NZ First or ACT levels.

Should be good entertainment: butter bombs thrown into audience at meet the candidate functions, hoardings slashed with same knife he used in his Boys Brigade days.

Pity he doesn’t remember the whole point of boys Brigade: The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.

These guys are even bigger fuckwits then they make out. I would have thought they would want as much public support as they could possibly muster. Of course there will be some in the community that will see them as hero’s but what’s the point of been a hero if you fail to win country wide support. I wonder how the Sea Sheperd will go about annoying the Japs if they are not wanted in South Pacific ports and do not get the finance and servicing they requirer
