Plunket signs off
September 8th, 2010 at 12:00 pm by David FarrarRadio New Zealand’s Morning Report co-host Sean Plunket, who has been with the show from September 1996, signed off this morning.
He is reported to be considering joining Newstalk ZB, replacing Justin du Fresne as the new Wellington region talkback host.
He also has a new job presenting TV3′s weekend political show The Nation as well as writing a column for monthly Metro magazine.
“It has been an amazing 13 years and lasted longer than I expected it would,” her said on air this morning.
“I would hope that notwithstanding some massive development in the field of genetics, I will be the longest ever serving co-host with you on Morning Report,” he told long-serving colleague Geoff Robinson.
Heh.
Who is the interim host, starting tomorrow? And anyone know when RNZ plans to announce the permanent replacement?

Can’t say I’m sorry to see him go.
But I think his cross over onto TV has gone well. It was interesting to watch Duncan Garners body language as co-host this week. He knows he now has to pick up his game.

The rude commie has gone. But he is still in the country! He does have one good trait, he gets people to answer his questions, even if he cuts the left some slack.

Totally agree with Jimbob… Plunkett is one of the few – the very few – who demands, and gets, answers. That’s different to bombastically putting an opposing proposition to a guest and hectoring them to agree with it and it certainly means you take a back seat to the interviewee.
On that basis there’s no one to match him. I think he’d be wasted on the tiny audience bequeathed him by Justin du Fresne (though he may of course be able to build it by conducting more incisive interviews) but I guess a man’s gotta eat…

The interim host might turn out to be Michael Laws…. he seems to have left Radio Live

Disagree Rex. I think Sean is every bit as hectoring as the person who hosts the early evening equivalent.
Vote:And Berend, according to the Neilsen ratings published on their web site, Morning report has approximately 350,000 listeners.

It was nice to hear Sean hat tip his dad this morning when signing off, who was a real solid old fashioned hack, in the nicest possible sense. A real great guy and top notch journo who did the hard yards to chase down a story and reported it tough, fair and honest. Where are his kind these days?
