Chinese economy is starting to crash. There are already reports of food riots. When the Chinese economy finally tips over it will take out NZ big time. The question is whether the Chinese crash and burn before or after the election.

After the Chinese burn and extremist crap from Labor will get worse. Though I doubt National will be able to hold the country together.

If you have debt now try and get rid of it ASAP. Sell assets now if you have too. Asset prices in NZ are going to crash.

“Heavy oil, which can be as thick as molasses, is harder to get out of the ground than light oil and costs more to refine into gasoline. Nevertheless, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have embarked on an ambitious experiment to coax it out of the Wafra oil field, located in a sparsely populated expanse of desert shared by the two nations.

That the Saudis are even considering such a project shows how difficult and costly it is becoming to slake the world’s thirst for oil. It also suggests that even the Saudis may not be able to boost production quickly in the future if demand rises unexpectedly. Neither issue bodes well for the return of cheap oil over the long term.

As I’m part time Catholic I’m finding the cap between my beliefs and the church getting wider. Seems to me the church has been hijacked by the left and as such is losing it’s way. What the fuck is the Auckland Catholic Justice and the Catholic social justice agent Cartas protesting the budget for. Sounds to me like something out of the progressive play book. I realise they are no longer supporting this protest because of radical factions threatening to flour bomb games at the world cup, plenty of caring and sharing there. They claim to be championing the cause for the poor and downtrodden, pigs arse. I’m all for looking after those that can’t help themselves but the church should be apolitical or neutral.

You’d think that “thou shalt not steal” would be quite clear cut; no wriggle room there. Yet it turns out that by simply relabelling such forcible appropriation as “redistribution” it suddenly becomes okay.

Jeez – I see a ‘prominent political figure’ and his ex wife have been in Court (both parties represented by a QC) to discuss….. custody of their dogs! I thought this was something usually consigned as ‘only in America’ but no, its happened here in NZ.

I also note the ‘strict’ suppression of all details. I’ll give it a week before we see a reference to this ‘prominent political figure’ and some oblique reference to him ‘going to the dogs’ or similar…

Ok who was that 13 year old girl I saw on TV1 last night who was pissed off with bullying? Apprently she has a plan, her school turned her down and shes been to see John Key.

Apprently the school are in a position of not liking a 13 year old tell them how to do their business but given the outright thuggery and open violence of our society today I want to know what she had come up with. that didn’t seem to be a feature of the itnerview, just setting up John Key to accuse him of ignoring her later on. not thatany member of the media has come up with any workable options themselves.

There’s a written report on her visit on the TVNZ website. As to be expected from a teenage kid her idea involved having everyone sitting in a circle & explaining their feelings & emotions.

I can understand the headmaster being less than enthused & I’m buggered if I know what JK will do with the idea but good on her for having the guts to give it a go.

Apart from a suggestion she made in GD last night that getting 5% of the vote is somehow a success, I don’t think PB has had time to lick her wounds. Rumour has it that she’s with her comrades ‘protesting’ in Queen St Auckland – along with the rest of Minto’s rent a mob.

I guess that just adds weight to the old saying about being judged by the company we keep…

nasska thats pretty much about what I expected. Its not a good idea but at least its an idea. She may be on to something with the idea that some form of comunal response has potential to have an impact. If a bully were put into a situation where they discovered that what they were doing did have an impact and that a LOT of people were pissed off with them it wouldn’t hurt. Also if the people who were victims discovered that they were not aalone they might be more inclined not to take the busslies crap.

If everyone who decided to push other people around found themselves beign faced down by ten other people people bullying would end over night. Hell we had 3 fifteen year olds make the mongrel mob turn and run last week. sure she hasn;t got a silver bullet , shes a bright 13 year old but she is still only 13. I think making an concerted effort of some kind is worth a crack at this stage. Either that or we admit defeat and and start on the script of how the west won and the man sho shot liberty vallance II with modern day NZ as the setting because we’re in some crap here.

Guess my natural cynicism involving anything to do with emotions & feelgood claptrap blinds me to the possibilities. The idea may have merit but as usual the problem would be getting the perpetrators of the bullying on board. The kids being bullied would be all for it but how would you reach the target audience?

Compulsion is the only way it could work. For what it’s worth I agree that anything is better than the status quo. What we are now producing are kids too scared to take advantage of the education offered & bullies who go on to terrorise the rest of society comfortable in the knowledge that their way works & accountability is only a concept.

Jeez – I see from the TVNZ site (couldn’t find any references elsewhere) that the much publicised ‘protest’ went ahead today on Queen Street, Auckland.

Despite the fact that the ‘story’ was carried widely in advance by TVNZ / TV3 / Radio NZ and in the print media that this was happening, I note that “around 100 people” took part.

AROUND 100 PEOPLE! What a joke. There were more people laughing at them from the footpaths!

Former Auckland Mayor John Banks was confirmed by the Act board this morning as Act’s candidate for Epsom in the November election.

The announcement was made at a press conference this afternoon in Newmarket, Auckland.

Mr Banks was favoured by new leader Don Brash, who last month ousted former leader and sitting Epsom MP Rodney Hide in a very public coup.

Mr Banks is a former National Party MP and cabinet minister. He, like Dr Brash, only recently joined Act – on May 18.

Act’s polling has improved since Dr Brash’s leadership bid, with a recent poll showing the party would pass the 5 per cent threshold to get into Parliament.

Faced with evidence of cash and investments worth over $3 million, her
husband was so astounded he could barely speak, but finally he found his
voice and blurted out, ‘If I’d had any idea what you were doing, I would
have given you all my business!’

That’s when she shot him.

Note the word “relative.”

So, not actual poverty then, Meredydd?

Yep, what the girl is proposing is essentially Restorative Justice, something practised as a discipline by professionals in the UK who count amongst their clients several police forces. They even have a proven, research-backed program for schools.

So the Principal should get off his high horse and realise NZ (and Australia) are trailing the Western world in this approach, and that his student is light years ahead of him in suggesting an approach that works – even if she’s relying on instinct and hasn’t got it quite right.

Very interesting links thanks & quite an eye opener as to how effective the concept could be. Introduced at primary school level I can see how it would develop & quite possibly nip the problem in the bud.

I am less convinced that it would meet with such success at secondary schools because of ingrained attitudes & predetermined levels of empathy amongst teenage bullies.

Union threatens Pike River blacklist
Miners around the world could blacklist the Pike River coal mine if receivers go ahead with a sale without a body recovery plan, the union which represents New Zealand miners has warned.
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) delivered the “sharp message” to receivers PricewaterhouseCoopers on Monday, EPMU national secretary Andrew Little told the Greymouth Star.
If the mine was sold and the receivers or the buyers did not have a plan to recover the 29 men, who were killed in an explosion in November last year, coal miners around the world would most likely react by saying “Pike River is not a mine we will work on”, Mr Little said

He can’t promise much because there simply isn’t much to go around. His government spent it all during the biggest boom we’ve had in a generation.

Oh, and did the current govt. set out to get into a HUGE deficit like Goff is claiming?! Does he not realise we’re at the tail-end of a world-wide recession the likes of which we haven’t seen since the 1930s?

He’s right though to claim it will take time to make things right.

The cheek of the guy. Does he really, really believe what he’s saying, or does he secretly know why this situation has come about, and is just saying whatever will get him the votes.?!
