The enemies within

October 2nd, 2012 at 9:43 pm by David Farrar

Image from Dim Post. Nanaia obviously unimpressed that her colleagues or parliamentary staff have been briefing against her, and suggesting Shearer will chop her, using her pregnancy as an excuse.

Shearer’s reshuffle has just got more challenging. He needs to be bold, but does he have the support to stay on, if he upsets too many?

She’s done a shit job and has made no impression on the wider public and deserves to be chopped.

Also airing dirty washing in public is bad politics.

Was there ever any reason she was placed so high on the labour list and made an map at 26 apart from her family connections?

It’s hardly a great look for a feminist influenced political party to demote someone merely for being pregnant. Can’t see many votes are going to be won by doing this.

I agree with Alan. She has made naff-all impression in her main area of education, so she deserves to be chopped.
If she had been doing her job, she would have dug out the report from 1998 which showed that the teaching of reading via “whole language” (the currently-used method) is fundamentally flawed. She would then have the ammo to mount a full-on attack on government, saying to them “why are you using a method that would found to be useless 14 years ago? Why have you not gone back to phonics, as so many schools around the world are doing?”

She will not do this. It is in Labour’s interest that as many of the population are poorly-educated as possible. Such people are easy vote-fodder for them.
The same goes for welfare – Labour can be guaranteed to not even think about trimming it.

    Boo Hoo Nanaia.

You have to laugh when a member of the nasty party starts to piss and moan about enemies inside their own camp. I wonder how many people she walked over to get where she is?

As others have pointed out she is bloody useless, simply another low life Labour MP who does not want to give up the highest paying job she has ever had.

She is supposed to be the Spokesperson but where is she. Hekia Parata has been taking all sorts of flak but none from Miss Mahuta. It is the teachers’ unions that have been leading the opposition. I am sure her colleagues feel she is a waste of space. But then Miss Mahuta is not where she is through hard work it is her family connections that got her where she is.

ONE News has learnt that the Lower Hutt families received advice from the MPs before embarking on a legal battle that has cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It has been nearly two years since Housing New Zealand tried to turf three women – Robyn Winther, Huia Tamaka and Billy Taylor – out of of their Farmer Crescent, Pomare, homes in March of last year.

The women have challenged Housing New Zealand’s 90 day eviction notices, claiming they were being unlawfully punished for the actions of their Mongrel Mob partners.

It has now emerged that Labour MP for Hauraki-Waikato, Nanaia Mahuta, and Labour list MP Charles Chauvel have supported the women.

  12. Pete George (17,596) Says:

Mahuta has not been inactive, as per DPF’s table:

    15 press releases (rank 16)
    18 news stories (rank 16)
    104 written questions (rank 10)
    Overall Farrar rank 14

That doesn’t address how effective she has been, just that she has been doing about one press release per week and has been reported a little more often than that.

Judging the value of an MP by what you see in the media is flawed. Chris Hipkins has been regarded as doing a better job, he had ten press releases and only five news stories and ranks below Mahuta. He was far more active with written questions with 212, but that is usually out of the publicv spotlight.

Let’s not forget that she was David Cunliffe’s leadership running mate when the leadership was up for grabs late last year. It would seem that the ABC’s (Anyone But Cunliffe) are rising to the surface again.

Labour have a list ranking guide – in every block of five candidates there should be at least two women and at least one Maori. When you are both it makes it easier to meet that quota.

Shearers choices will be a great watch .. his options are so few due to an array of MP’s who should not be in Parliament let alone potential ministers of the crown.

You must be a rather slow reader.
You did notice the story you referenced is two years old?
It is dated 21 October 2010. It may still be relevant when discussing Mahuta but it is pushing things to say, as you do “it has now emerged” when it emerged two years ago.

Cabinet reshuffles happen, and so do Shadow equivalents. Parliamentary politics is a Hobbesian and Darwinian contest, and if a particular party spokesperson doesn’t cut the mustard, then they do not merit survival in such a competitive environment. It’s as simple as that. Much the same applies to the position of party leader or senior party spokespeople. If they do not perform optimally, then they are overtaken by more effective performers. I do think Nanaia should have shown more awareness than to comment about it in public, though…

Her job was to convinced people like me, parents, that my child’s education would be better under a labour administration.

The last 6 months have been an omishambles on the topic from the Nats.

I can’t think of a single word she’s said during that time.

Labour are building for an election they really ought to win, third terms are hard to win, baggage of government tires parties. Education (like health) is an issue that Labour should own. They don’t, ergo she’s failed.

This doesn’t mean she’d be a bad minister of the crown or a incompetent in the delivery of policy. It’s simply not what’s needed now, Labour are in the sales cycle, and she can’t sell.

Gotta love the blatant hypocrisy of Labour. They want abstract theoretical women to be able to keep their careers and have children, but real women who have babies should be carted off to the knackers.
