The absentee Mayor

January 13th, 2014 at 12:00 pm by David Farrar

The Herald reports:

Auckland Mayor is lying low and refusing to say exactly when he will resume public duties after his sex scandal, undeclared hotel stays and censure by councillors before Christmas.

Mr Brown did not return calls yesterday and his team of spin doctors were giving little away about the movements of their boss, who has been on leave since December 21 – the day after councillors expressed their “profound disappointment and disapproval” of the mayor’s inappropriate behaviour and undeclared conflicts of interest.

Did the Herald try all six of them?

Len is full of himself. If he has this much difficulty being in his office then he should put himself out of the misery and resign. That way he never has to be in his office again!

Len won’t. Too many baubles of office.

It’s hard to know how much its he’s full of himself, how much it’s denial and how much is avoidance.

Yesterday, Mr Brown’s chief press secretary, Glyn Jones, said the mayor was “still officially on leave but spending some time in the office while enjoying quality time with his family before returning to mayoral duties within the next couple of weeks”.

Mr Brown has vowed to redeem himself with his wife, Shan Inglis, and three daughters following the fallout from a two-year affair…

The official word is family time and repairing the damage. I don’t know what sort of relationship he had but it’s not the movies, doubts will usually remain. It looks like a very hard one to recover from. “I’ll be late home”, “I’m staying in town in a hotel for the night” and even “I’m in the office” may not be reassuring.

As both a husband and as a mayor he looks like severely damaged goods.

But are we really supposed to believe that Brown is at home with the missus, relaunching his marriage? Chuang wasn’t just a fling, but two years worth of degrading quick sex. If the rumours are to believed, there are two or three other women, the mystery women he took on the secret Hong Kong trip, and visits to prostitutes and it is likely that this will all be in the media in 2014. Because Brown’s assertion that he has made a full disclosure is as worthless as his promise that he wouldn’t be caught up in another corruption scandal if voters would ignore his record as Manukau Mayor and elect him Auckland Mayor. If Inglis isn’t at home packing her bags, then she doesn’t have a lot of self respect and it’ll be hard to have any sympathy for her this year as the scandals mount up.

What female would want to go into Brown’s mayoral office without being on surveillance camera and accompanied by someone willing to independently vouch for her maintaining her integrity? Even emails from Brown could be viewed with suspicion. It may well be over reacting but it’s a mess of Browns own making – which must have existed to an extent before Whale’s revelations.

Obviously there are issues around the hotel rooms, job references, and the secret Hong Kong trip. However, the sex aspect IS of public interest since it shows Brown is a creeper. There was never any reason for Brown to meet an individual member of a council committee on her own, without at least the chair person being in attendance. It is likely that Brown identified Chuang as someone to creep on and then took steps to hit on her. She said “yes” and that is her own private business. The question is how many other council staff has Brown hit on and had to say “no”? It is hardly likely that Chuang is the only woman that Brown has targeted in this way. Female council have the right to do their job without a creepy old masturbator hitting on them, or inviting them to a meeting on their own where Brown isn’t interested in their work. Only in getting in to their pants for a couple of minutes.

Regular readers will recall that prior to Christmas the lefties on here were furiously trying to claim there was no conflict of interest at all re the job at the Council owned art gallery, and the freebies from Sky City…Does anyone know if the censure motion was unanimous, and if not, what the support/don’t support split was??

Sympathy for Mrs Brown may lessen a little with the consideration that she was likely the ‘other woman’ in the demise of Brown’s first marriage. Inglis is repeatedly reported as twenty years wed to Len, whereas the oldest daughter is 24, which also may alter how you regard the letter she and her sisters released in support of their father.

And Brown’s request that Auckland forgive and support him, implies that he would go forth and sin no more, but like the financial problems he had as Mayor of Manukau which now are replaced by the donation fund and undeclared hotel perks, the just ended adultery seems to be repeat behaviour, rather than a forgivable spur of the moment two year long one off incident.

    No shit.

I wonder what idiot the left now gets to put the legalise drug bill forward – Street’s got euthanasia.

Beyer can now be used as a modern example by the opponants of drug and euthanasia legislation – in that the proponants don’t know or don’t care about the negative consequences of their policies.

Or that they hide them from public scrutiny, and it is then the opponants of pro drug policy who have to produce them – only to be screamed down again by the childish mob!

It makes me sick how such stupid things as abortion, prostitution, gay marriage, euthanasia and legalise drugs gets the nod in such a place as parliment – yet smacking one’s own children does not – and simple things like alcohol and takeaways are frowned upon!

If you pass a euthanasia law [on the grounds of illness]- it will then almost be impossable to make any laws against drinking, smoking & takeaways – as people who enjoy these may also have ‘figured’ their ‘own euthanasia’ into the equation of excess!

Mr Craig could easily get 10% if he keeps showing up the stupidity of politicians.
