Rudd wants to be UN Secretary General

April 29th, 2014 at 1:00 pm by David Farrar

Stuff reports:

The BBC’s United Nations correspondent Nick Bryant says head winds face former Australian prime minister if he wants the top job  in 2017.

He says the UN will adhere to ”geopolitical correctness”, meaning it is an Eastern European’s turn. Speculation centres on former Slovenian president Danilo Turk and Slovak diplomat Jan Kubis. Former prime minister is also eyeing the job –  perhaps hoping regional ”turns” are over.

I made this point a few months ago – regional rotation is very very important in UN roles such as the Secretary-General. That’s why I think it is unlikely Helen Clark will be in the running.

I will say this though. Given a choice between Helen Clark and Kevin Rudd – I’d be supporting Helen all the way!

Ján Kubiš’ experience in arms control makes him the better candidate.

Kevin Rudd would probably run the UN into the ground with his endless micromanaging.

Rudd was a disaster, in foreign policy (and other) terms, for Australia. Only a seriously deluded narcissist would consider himself a UN Sec-Gen candid-… oh.

Someone check on DPF urgently. He has come down with some exotic foreign brain virus ;)

    Both of them are awful.

Rudd and Gillard did their best to destroy Australia by flooding the country with tens of thousands of boat-people.

They and other lefties claimed that the boats couldn’t be stopped. BS. No refugee boats have arrived in Australia since mid-December. Four months with not a single boat.

Why can’t these broken down socialists find a real job on personal ability? Maybe they are as we all think . . . losers and leeches.

Helen Clark is not the sort of politician who would give these rumours oxygen if there wasn’t a shred of possibility in em. She’s probably involved in trying to get rid of the regional rotation, and that would force open her window of opportunity.

There’s also the option of citing the European Union now, and how eastern Europe is represented under the EU. Remember that NZ falls under Western European and Other (which could also fall under the EU). This allows Clark to qualify under a EU ticket, and not an Eastern European one.

She’s in New York, UN heartland. My guess is that she has been gunning for Secretary General from day 1.

Let the chips fall where they may.

But, but, isn’t the UN the ‘final resting place’ for all good socialist leaders; the place where they go to be rewarded for their faithful service to ‘The Cause’ by permanently having their noses in an everlasting trough?

Socialist nirvana, perhaps, except that as an ideology they don’t believe in such things (or at least, that is what they say, for ‘Public consumption'; of course).

BTW, Helun Clark, seems to have successfully overcome her ‘socialist’ ‘equality for all’ scruples. Odd that….

The problem with the refugee boats in Australia is that no-one knows for sure what is happening.

The government occasionally issues statements, but won’t answer questions. It’s real secret squirrel stuff.

The Syrians want al-Assad to get a new job, might be the perfect solution to that problem…
