Whedon releases film as a download

April 22nd, 2014 at 12:00 pm by David Farrar

The Herald reports:

is releasing a film he wrote as a US$5 (NZ$5.84) digital download, bypassing the normal channels of independent film distribution.

In a video announcement following the premiere of the supernatural romance In Your Eyes at the Tribeca Film Festival, Whedon says the film will immediately be released online via Vimeo On Demand and InYourEyesMovie.com.

Great to see one producer embracing the opportunities of the digital age, and experimenting with potential new business models. I hope it does well.

I’m not much into supernatural or romance or supernatural romance but at that price I’m inclined to try it.

At last someone gets digital pricing. Distribution is much cheaper so the price should be much cheaper. If it’s priced reasonably people are more likely to try and more likely to buy.

    yeah good stuff!

Obviously he has all that avengers cash and can take the risk/ be a pioneer.

kinda like louis ck with comedy – 5 bucks download. he donated 250k or so to charity, the production cost 200k or so and he pocketed the rest.

since then people like bill burr & joe rogan have done the 5 buck download thing too.

Well that’s something, very few people can are that over-rated and using so many distribution platforms. Always cool to someone blazing a trail.
