The ‘faceless’ men at the New Zealand Hamas have decided to defend Hager and give him some much needed publicity in the latest editorial and a hit piece on Cactus Kate.
The editorial is, as usual, one-eyed, one sided and leaves out the context and a lot of relevant information.
    1. Nothing about the motives of Hager who is a partisan radical left-wing activist.
    2. Hager is given a free pass, doing the same thing (and worse) of what he accuses others.
    3. No mention of The Standard, a blog on par with Whaleoil and run by Labour activists.

    Well, Oi’ll Beef Hooked !

We now know who one of the two remaining secret donors are [Mąi Chen]  And we also know why David Cunliffe could never have admitted to it in public.
    http://www.whaleoil.co.nz/2014/07/donated-david-cunliffes-secret-trust/

And not that long ago, there were hints of a Cunliffe indiscretion similar to Pants Down Len Brown, which would surely have figured in private email communications intercepted and stolen by Hager the Horrible’s memory stick man.

But where are those comments, speculation or not?

So how much, then, is Hager’s book about all dirty parties, or are we to believe there is only one Nrew Zealand political party headed to Hell?
Should “DIRTY POLITICS” not be more accurately titled “SELECTED DIRTY POLITICS – A Biased Presentation of Stolen Emails.”

Or, to express it another way –

    • Katie Bradford @katieabradford
David Cunliffe says all NZers will be shocked by the contents of Dirty Politics. He’s read the first 2 chapters & felt dirty afterwards.
    • whaleoil @katieabradford I wonder why Nicky Hager failed to print the emails about the political leader and his lawyer girlfriend?

    Shame! Shame! Shame!

Did you see on TV last night the piece about the Christchurch Art Gallery. The city is spending $50 million on reinforcing it and repairing earthquake damage. In the meantime the gallery has also been buying more art.

This while families are sleeping in garages and sheds in the bitter Canterbury winter, while the city’s ratepayers face steep rate rises, and while the city prepares to sell off stakes in the assets which bring in income.

The place has gone mad. No doubt there will be bullshit about how the work has to be done to use insurance, or some such. What insurance company wouldn’t settle for some favourable cash payout?

This is a bit of a slight to the taxpayers of NZ who are also putting hands deep into pockets, to help post-quake Christchurch.

The Christchurch Art Gallery was pretentious and overly expensive for a city of its size. It would have been justified perhaps in Auckland, though more suited to Melbourne. After the city splashed out on it, too little was left for the art that went in the building. If you wanted to see interesting art, you went to Dunedin, which in far more humble buildings, brought excellent exhibitions to its citizens.

We plebs also wondered how much it cost to heat the glass-walled atrium for the white-wine soirees of the gallery’s supporters.

C’mon Mayor Dalziel, get a grip on the city!

What Judith Collins friend said about Christchurch: what a louse. On the other hand what if the character and agenda of a few on the left were exposed.
For example in the UK we were told by a speech writer that the New Labour had talked in terms of rubbing the right’s nose in diversity. I don’t think the talk and attitudes here would be much different.

    The end of neighbours

How our increasingly closed-off lives are poisoning our politics and endangering our health

humans need face-to-face contact, as they need air and water. We have evolved for it, to the extent that those surrounded by a tight-knit group of friends who regularly gather to eat—and, crucially, gossip—live an average of 15 years longer than loners. Quality face-to-face contact is essential for a social species, Pinker writes, citing research that shows it fortifies immune systems, calibrates hormones and increases chances of surviving heart attacks, strokes, AIDS and cancer. “People with the most integrated social lives—overlapping relationships among friends, family, sports and other recreational or religious pursuits—have the best prognoses,”

    What is a House?

These surveys are part of Demographia’s political agenda to support land use policies that favor lower-density urban fringe development. Their main conclusion is that smart growth policies that encourage compact development are the main constraint on housing affordability. There are good reasons to question both the surveys’ methodologies and conclusions.

The surveys rate housing affordability by calculating the Median Multiple, the ratio of median house sales prices and median household incomes for metropolitan regions (cities and their suburbs). The results depend significantly on the definition of “house.”

In many cities, a major portion of owner-occupied homes are multi-family: duplexes, townhouses and apartments (condominiums). Does the analysis give these weight relative to their market share, or are the house price data biased toward single-family houses? This is a critical question, particularly in large, growing cities with geographic constraints (either physical or political) where land unit costs (dollars per acre) are high, making land-intensive housing types (i.e., single-family) less affordable relative to land-efficient housing (i.e., multi-family).

The survey does not really specify. It simply explains that, “Median house price information is obtained from the leading national reporting agencies and includes the housing stock as reported upon.” It then lists various government agencies and real estate professional organizations which supplied data. The report uses a banner (below) of seven houses, six of which are single-family, four of which have driveways and garages, suggesting that authors Wendell Cox and Hugh Pavletich assume that “house” refers primarily to larger-lot, single-family homes.

These surveys are not peer reviewed (few of Cox’s publications are), nor are the data posted anywhere for other researchers to examine. Such reviews and data transparency are common practice among serious researchers, and are the basis for reliable and objective scientific analysis.
During the last month I twice emailed the report’s authors asking them to clarify these details and provide examples of their data. They have not responded.

My options would be to have my papers posted to the rig supply base – christ, can you imagine our public servants having to deal with that complexity – especially considering they have to get them to me between the 3rd and 20th Sept. and give me enough time to return them.

I then have to use technology that I didn’t even know existed anymore, a fax!!! And fax them back to some wallah at the electoral office who must be standing by a fax machine collecting the screeds of votes as they come off… One can only imagine what happens to votes that don’t align with said wallah’s views.

I don’t think we have a fax offshore, but I can check.

As a follow-up to his breathless, nay hysterical, description of Hager’s fiction based on stolen private property, this morning , among other wimpish claims (such as comparing J Key’s / S Joyce’s response to R D Muldoon), the geriatric Armstrong has this gem (among many):

” …. Hager has the emails. It is of major significance that Key has not questioned their authenticity. To do so would risk Hager releasing them and proving Key wrong. It would keep the story alive when Key and Joyce are saying and doing the minimum in the hope of denying it oxygen. ….”

Well Hager claims he has the emails. And if he does have them, he knows they have been stolen.

So Armstrong glorifies the apparent use of stolen property, and ignores the Crimes Act. And Armstrong ignores J Key’s invitation for Hager to , more or less, “publish and be damned”. Of course Armstrong cannot see that such action would deepen the hole into which Hager has fallen.

Now in his 80s, Ian Templeton continues to write perceptively and with insight built on experience – real experience. And were he of a mind, Peter Scherer would do the same. Armstrong is a fool, but the folks who read his rubbish are seldom fooled for very long…..

Oh dear. Time that Armstrong went to the knackers yard – for his own piece of mind.

I was just reading about Te Kuiti. I’ve been in court there several times, and know what the back rooms of that Court House look like. Although the cage was not there then, there is internal space, although being an old building it is a bit stuffy. I suspect the cage was added to allow them to get a bit of fresh air and improve their comfort – they actually have an alternative to being in it – and have inside accommodation – the story is an exaggeration.

That is true, Hager does not say in the book that it was Collins, I’m not sure how anyone could draw that conclusion, its pretty obvious it is a Corrections Department employee that he is speaking to, or someone close to an employee. If Collins had requested the prisoner be moved, there would be too many eyebrows raised – this was someone who could do so, without it being regarded as unusual.

So Hager is wrong for having stolen material – that is clear, however I note you do not admonish Cameron Slater, and even DPF for also using stolen material for their campaign, and you clearly have no problem with them using material that was gained in inappropriate, although not illegal, ways.

You cannot take the higher ground and critque Hager, unless you are also going to lay the same claims on Slater. And I am not talking about the Labour Data Base, I’m talking about hacked material Slater received from his team of ‘hacker friends’.

I expect National will take a small hit in the next poll because if this, but I don;’t see anything likely to cause serious or lasting damage.

However what those emails mostly give is insight into how WhaleOil works. For the most part we see Cam behaving like a Journalist of the hard school muckraking type. Muckraking journalists are not very nice people but then they are not supposed to be. Nothing too much wrong with that.

However we also see that many of the stories in Whaleoil were bought and paid for. I hadn’t quite realised the extent of this. The line between story and advertisement has become very thin recently in the main stream media, but in WhaleOil it seems to be non-existent. That leaves us guessing when we read a story as to whether someone has paid for it.

Some of Slater’s hobby horses are now explained. We see why he takes such an interest in plain packaging laws for instance. But what about his other hobby horses? What about his frequent criticism of the Hawkes Bay council and their “dodgy dam”. Was that paid for by a dam opponent or is that Cam giving us his true editorial opinion.

Clearly anyone who reads WhaleOil and some of the other blogs of the “new media” needs to adopt a very critical frame of mind and be aware that someone may have paid for that point of view to be expressed. Makes me trust kiwiblog more actually. David Farrar has been doing this a long time and has another job.

I don’t think anyone is saying that Hager using material that was stolen is right.

But what about Slater’s use of material that was also hacked – by his ‘team of hacker pals’ – is he not also just as wrong?

None of that excuses the other stuff that Slater has done.

Take the breach of Labour’s data base. Surely if Cameron Slater was an upstanding member of society, and better than Labour, he would have simply informed them of the slack security and allowed them to fix it. He did not HAVE TO copy the names and the details of all the people on that list – he did not have to publish the fact or anything else. He choose to do that which lowers him to a great level – even lower than the people he criticizes.

It’s like walking into a room where a couple are having sex because the door was unlocked. Do you stand there an watch – or do you resort to Slater’s level and video tape the couple? Or do you simply tell them – lock the door guys – and walk out.

Sorry, but there is no excuse for Slater – although it was interesting to see that he could not refute any of what Hager says, and only object to the manner in which Hager got his material – which considering his own collection techniques, is some what hypocritical of him.

Slater boasts openly about his ‘hacker pals’ which obtained 28GB plus a filing cabinet full of documents for him, which he has used to run his dirty politics campaign.

That puts them both on the same level – both using stolen material to run their campaigns. Neither can take the higher ground so we are left with just the material itself – which I note that Slater is not really disputing.

Fact is flipper – this could all go away and be a win for National, gain them a great amount of support and completely devastate any opposition. All Collins has to do is allow access to her facebook comments on the dates mentioned and show that Hager is wrong. A very quick and simple fix to the whole argument.

Key won’t – why? Key owes the nation the truth – he is answerable to us – therefore he should be endeavoring to ensure that the truth is sought and made available to all of us – the fact he won’t do that demonstrates beyond any doubt that he does NOT want us to know.

Milky, you will be aware that frequently the Police use illegal means to secure information upon which they build cases and launch prosecutions. From time to time these illegal actions even extend to deliberately falsifying information given to a Judge. My recollection is that either the CoA or SP found this to be OK in the Nelson case (more or less).

So are you now saying that ferret-faced fruitcake, Hager, is on a par with the Police ????

I don’t care how he got there – the fact is that any decent person would have contacted labour officials and told them that they had a leak in their system. Only an asshole would copy that information, peoples names, addresses, credit card details etc, and keep them.

It is not necessarily a crime – but its unethical – and a poor reflection of the kind of person that you are all trying to defend, and make out he is better than Hager. He’s not better, whilst Hager has revealed information about people who have been playing the dirty politics game, he has not released the details of the emails in which Slater deals with personal relationships and family etc – Slater has never stopped at attacking the family and friends of people he wanted to harm – so there is a big difference between the two on that ethical front.

But then there is the issue that Slater has/had a group of ‘hacker pals’ which is revealed in Hager’s book from which Slater gained 28GB and a filing cabinet full of documents from – Slater has not disputed this information – in fact, on TV3 today Slater made it clear that he cannot dispute the vast majority of it. All he can do is stamp his foot and complain because some nasty person played the same game he has been playing for years and dared to publish nasty details about Whaleoil, in the same manner Whaleoil has done to others.

This mornings interview of Whaleoil was very revealing – he knows he cannot disprove the evidence against him, because its true.

I also note he dropped Collins right in it – and said it was her that gave information – and that they are ‘close friends’ – which contradicts Collins published statement that minimizes their friendship and the amount of contact they have.

Hager said he is likely to produce the emails between Slater and his associates to back up the claims he makes in the book, but said that could take some days. He had “cleaned out the house because I might have had the police around here” following the book’s release, he said.

So you wouldn’t do that would you, unless you suspected you had yourself done something a little outside the law?

“I’m going to try and get access to them again which I can probably do and release them in a few days.”

So at the moment you yourself, Hager the Horrible, have nothing to back up any of your accusations? Oh, dear … may become an interesting legal situation :-)

I never said since I read the book that Slater was the hacker – I’ve read the book carefully, I know it was his friends that did the hacking for him.

Calling the Labour party site a ‘hacking’ incident or not is really semantics. Slater needed IP professional advice to do it – and claims he wanted Labour to know they had leaks. If he was genuine in his concern, why didn’t he simply copy the Labour Party’s phone number whilst he was in the site and inform them?

I’m sorry, but you can continue to try and bypass the facts, and try to discount the filthy tactics of all the people mentioned in that book, by concentrating on this issue – it is easy to see it is just another tactic being used by the same manipulative group to try and keep the dialogue flowing to a particular course, and to quieten talk about the real issues of the dirty politics involved.

Cameron Slater has/had copious quantities of hacked data which he has used to attack people with over the years. That makes him an unscrupulous bastard. He hasn’t denied it – he has offered not one piece of evidence that proves anything Hager said is wrong. Until he does, he remains a bastard, and will be hard pushed to stop me, and others who are equally pissed off from seeing he and those that have colluded with him get what they deserve.

Slaters obsession with the Hawkes Bay Regional Council is possibly because of a friend and his desire to push them in a certain direction.
He keeps barking up the wrong tree and the changes they made by destroying candidates at the last election were a sad day for people in Hawkes Bay.Ironically it is now heavily endowed with Labour Party supporters that don’t have a clue about the purpose of regional councils.
The biggest mistake made by the HBRC was when they appointed the new CEO who is now the head of the dam proposal and earning $280,000 pa which in effect is paid by the ratepayer.
The other mistake is Government allowing councils to get involved in projects such as dams .Putting $80m of ratepayers money in to the dam is unforgivable.

Well – that should be easy when they come in measurements catering for each individual wearer of ‘small, medium or large’ like a frickin Chinese $6 t-shirt. Good one.

They cover your legs and their arse by saying ‘these socks are intended for healthy legs’. The contentious online material conflicts with former by saying only people with one or more ‘risk factors’ really need compression garments on long hauls. So – Go Travel are saying only people who would benefit least from using their product should buy it ? Let’s say that anyone is better off wearing them – I get the feeling that you either shell out for the higher price range ones or don’t bother. Call it experience. I’d never heard of compression socks until Weds and yet I could smell the foul stench of the useless Go Travel ones as I first encountered them.

    —–
Cameron Slater, Facebook private messaging to Aaron Bhatnagar, 5 October 2011 – Slater refers to his ‘hacker pals’ that help him collect information.
    —–
Johnathon Marshall, Facebook Private Messaging to Cameron Slater, 30 April, 2012
“I have a massive story this week, gonna run for days” – Slater
    “What is it” – Marshall
“Three journos will be casualites,” – Slater
“Fruad, sfo, fma .. rat fink directors, dodgy transactions, I’ve got 28 GB of emails, plus a filing cabinet of documents” – Slater
    “niceeee” – Marshall
[have] three journos putting their names to articles written by the fraudster… 2 x NBR and one Herald…[and] two lawyers who will go down plus a liquidator” – Slater

Slater was subsequently sued by the man concerned, Matthew Blomfield.

    Wiseowl….

The $80million is from the sale of an interest in Ports of Napier (aka the Hawkes Bay Harbour Board when I fished from the wharves that are now “no entry” areas), and was accumulated mainly (almost totally) from the fruits of Central HB and Hastings farming. And last time I looked I was unable to find an industry that under-pins the New Zealand economy to the extent done by agriculture, horticulture and orchards etc.

Notwithstanding what the green f/wits say, closing down agriculture, or winding it back to their vision, would be a massive blow that would result in widespread unemployment.

Likewise, describing any Government/local authority contribution to the cost of building a dam as “socialist” is just plain silly. I do agree that water quality is an issue, and that must be resolved. But the BOI mechanism is rubbish. Witness the Basin Reserve fly-by (not over!) dung heap.

I may be a hypocrite, but so are you because you are believing the word of someone who is also uses hackers material. You can’t just cross the words out and pretend the situation doesn’t exist Reid.

The fact remains, that the material no matter how it was gained proves some very dirty tactics by a group of people, that shows that Crown Ministers have released information in circumstances that mean they should no longer have a job, and that the National government has encouraged Cameron Slater and his friends, including his hacker friends to conduct a campaign to of disgusting dirty politics.

Now you can keep trying to make it all about how the material was sourced if you like, but that does not dispute the fact that there are serious claims been made about the government that John Key and Collins have not disproved.

This is all the more valid because Cameron Slater has stated on TV3 that Judith Collins did give him a name, that she has denied giving. Therefore – we need to know the truth. Well actually we don’t, because I already need to know the truth, but the rest of New Zealand needs to know it.

Then you have no doubt read material gained through hacking, manipulation and out right dishonesty – so I don’t actually believe you are in a position to take any sort of ethical approach – because you have also read Kiwiblog – and some of that material has filtered through here, at least been linked to it and so on.

I see that Grant Robertson has been busy issuing media releases about the latest political storm:

“Nicky Hager’s book includes new examples of the way in which Judith Collins has misused information that she only had access to because she is a Minister. New Zealanders have a right to expect better of the Ministers who act on their behalf.

“Two examples stand out, which John Key needs to hold Judith Collins to account for. First, she was involved in a campaign to smear a staff member in the Ministerial Services team as part of a distraction from issues being raised about Bill English claiming housing allowances in 2009.

“Despite there being no evidence to suggest this staff member had done anything wrong, he was attacked in several blogs by Cameron Slater. The book released this week reveals that Judith Collins sent information about this person’s name and job to Cameron Slater as he prepared these attacks.

“This is an appalling example of a Minister misusing her power to attack an innocent public servant. By his inaction John Key is telling New Zealanders that this is acceptable behaviour.

So Robertson presumes to lecture everyone about what is, and isn’t, “acceptable behaviour”.

As I recently noted, Labour wants a Royal Commission into the public service “to address issues such as poor advice from officials, bullying of civil servants by ministers and the threat of creeping corruption”. But, as I also noted, Labour would need to start with Phil Goff (2010) and David Benson-Pope (2007). So Labour has form when it comes to how its MPs have treated civil servants (Mikenmild: any thoughts?)

Slightly different issue, but if Robertson is as concerned about acceptable behaviour as he claims to be, what’s his position on Phillip Field? Should Labour do more than merely acknowledge the court decision, and apologise for seeking to cover it up for so long?

Adam Bennet’s latest piece is the worst piece of partisan journalism I’ve seen in a while.

he claims that because Cactus Cate sent an email, that’s why WhaleOil posted NH’s address.

Then he mentions that CCs email was sent in 2013, thereby showing his conclusion to be invalid.

And the guys address is public anyway.

So this is a completely fabricated story. Hardly non-partisan objective journalism, Adam Bennet should be looking for a new job, something suitable to his intellect like peeling potatos.

How (not) to write a neutral article:

    Janet McAllister on the arts
Janet McAllister looks at the world of the arts and literature.

An actor, a writer and a musician walk into an arts debate. “What happens now?” they ask the politician.

Okay, that’s not quite how last Tuesday’s discussion unfolded at Q Theatre. Personable Green thespian Richard Leckinger showed his smarts; National’s historian Paul Goldsmith showed some feisty; and Internet Mana’s ex-Tadpole guitarist Chris Yong gave his autobiography in the third person without one “I”.

It turns out that Labour’s consummate professional Jacinda Ardern is not just a politician; she grew up with a ukulele. The only one who thoroughly knew the subject and was also happy to banter was, unsurprisingly, the only dedicated arts spokesperson present: Ardern.

So that was the circus – what about the policies? I promise an analysis once National announces its arts policy, or a week before the election – whichever comes first.

No surprises, I suspect, as to what Janet’s “analysis” (in the broadest sense of the word) might say…

    Wiseowl….

I am not familiar with all the detail, but I quote from a senior Central Hawkes Bay figure who wrote some weeks ago in an email to me….

*** ……..”. I feel the water has been muddied ( no pun intended!) by the election of a group of new members on the Regional Council, elected on a platform of anti the existing councillors, based on their anger at having their irrigation water restricted during the last drought.

“One would have thought that they, of all people would understand the value of irrigation to other land users, but it seems to me that they can’t get their heads around the fact that this dam will increase, not decrease, the level of the Tukituki in the summer.
There has also been a failure by the Regional Council to successfully inform city dwellers that this project will be funded by investment funds, largely built up from Port of Napier profits, of which a high proportion derives from exporting produce from Central Hawkes Bay, and will not be funded by rate income.

The divide in Hawkes Bay is also obvious when discussing this issue with so-called intelligent Hastings and Napier people who see no problem in Regional Council money funding the H.B. Sports Park, Hastings Opera House, Pettigrew-Green arena etc, yet are apoplectic at the thought of “our money being spent down in Central Hawkes Bay”.

“Finally I feel Fenton Wilson has not handled his councillors wisely, and trying to muzzle Tom Belford was a serious error which has backfired on him. ”

The Greens must rank as the most sanctimonious, hypocritical flock of goody goodies this side of the black stump. If they see any political advantage they will toddle off to the police station at the drop of a hat but, if it does not suit them politically, they turn their heads and feign ignorance. Let’s face it, Hager is one of their own. He even stood for the Values party. He acknowledges that his material was hacked illegally. He is still in touch with his supplier and says he will go back for more.
The Greens are not remotely interested. They are getting their knickers in a twist over the

” possibility that officials working for Mr Key corruptly used or disclosed any information, acquired by him or her in his or her official capacity, to obtain, advantage…”

What in heavens name does that mean? In short they are dressing up the term “leaked” as though it was a criminal offence. Well Russel, it ain’t and the police have got a damn sight more to do with their time than be used by the precious Greens to make cheap political points.

What is a criminal offence, Russel, is DOS and hacking. Dishonestly using hacked info for financial advantage is also be a criminal offence. Have a look in the Crimes Act, Russel. And while you are there, why don’t you find the bit where it says that finding your way thru a maze of open doors on the Labour Party’s website is criminal but a malicious attack designed to cripple a website, coupled with flogging 6 years of communications doesn’t warrant comment, let alone investigation. Or do we just conclude that wen your mates or your mates’ mates do it, then it is perfectly OK?

“The Prime Minister has got to take public responsibility for the apparatus that he has set up, through his staff and his office and his friends, people like Cameron Slater – which he and Mr Slater have said converse regularly. He has to take responsibility for this being what it is,” he said.
“This is a system built up by the National Party to denigrate opponents, often in the most revolting terms – like calling Cantabrians ‘scum’ and calling West Coasters ‘ferals’.
“This is not behaviour that is becoming of any New Zealand politician nor the systems for which they are accountable.
“This has got to stop, the Prime Minister’s got to take accountability for it, and New Zealanders need to move forward in confidence by changing the Government.”

    Wainui features on Wikipedia:

    History

The isolated nature of Wainuiomata was a problem for early settlers. Narrow hill routes into the settlement were the only access during the 1850s and 1860s.

    Geography

Hills surround Wainuiomata on three sides.

One could possibly be forgiven for thinking that the hills were intended to keep people in (and away from) Wainui!
