With regard to the John Campbell / Tuaine Murray story on RNZ last week, and the revelation via Whale that that woman and her partner have a rather colourful history –

Campbell could have asked ‘what tribe do you belong to?’ prior to door stepping the leaders of that tribe, to ask what they are doing for those particular members of their iwi, if anything. Maori all know their tribe. Maori have billions and billions of dollars of assets.

If Tuaine and her partner do not know their tribe, that could be established for them in a matter of hours.

Ah well. Never mind. We discover they are a ‘top priority’ for MSD, costing the taxpayer $2,300 a week – no biggie.

Meanwhile, productive country people in Clarence have no idea whether the Government knows they are even there or not.

Can two time electorate loser Andy Little win the seat of Rongotai? He should stroll it given the party vote in the electorate is solidly Labour and Green – a combined 21,900 odd votes in the 2014 election.

Plus the electorate vote already shows a very strong tactical vote for Labour/King – she had 7000 odd votes more personally than Labour gained in the party vote.

Plus the National electorate candidate is Chris Findlayson who is as appealing as 10 day old fish pie….

If Little doesn’t win this at a canter it will be a terrible reflection on him personally as a candidate

    These sort of decisions bring the judiciary into disrepute.
    
    A $1000 fine means nothing to someone so wealthy. Should we have substantially lower fines for poor people?
    
    Justice needs to be seen to be done. This guy could very well know the judge or know someone who does.

    fernglas, it looks like a couple of legal experts agree with me. If that was a young Maori from South Auckland no name suppression could affect their ability to find employment. When I add this to my experience in Civil Court I believe a significant number lack any integrity and are narcissistic.
    Permanent name suppression casts all judges in a bad light. The majority are good decent people but a significant minority are not trustworthy.

RNZ is reporting that a kura kaupapa in Rotorua took all 139 pupils, 21 teachers and 73 caregivers on a trip to Hawaii last year at a cost of $700,000. Those who went on the trip contributed just $37,000 to the cost, though the school’s principal says that this is misleading as it doesn’t take into account the value of the voluntary work contributed by the caregivers. The school has also taken trips to Rarotonga and Tahiti, and is planning more whole school overseas jaunts. Of the Hawaii trip the school’s principal Cathy Dewes said they ‘went back to the place where our canoe left from and came to Aotearoa from’ and that it has provided pupils with more than two years of learning experience

Is this use of Crown funding rather odd or am I just some old-fahioned fuddy duddy who is out of touch with modern teaching practice?

So the squeaky clean Annette King has finally folded to the pressure of Andrew Little and the Union and is standing aside from her safe seat in Rongotai to go on the Labour List. Mrs King stated she would like the Health Portfolio if Labour won the 2017 Election but would retire and leave Parliament if they did not achieve becoming the Government.Andrew Little states he is better suited on the List also to help lesson the work of trying to campaign for a seat in a electorate when trying to lead his Party to win the 2017 Election. Me thinks Little is scared he will not be able to win a seat that has been gifted to him.

Some good discussion on this thread with by far the top rated comment being: “To learn who rules over you, first learn whom you are not allowed to criticise”…which is pleasing and shows people are staring to put 2 and 2 together.

By far my favourite comment however is the following which is a piece of history I remember reading about years ago before I became red-pilled and believed the “official” version of history:

After the quite extraordinary affair of the Balfour Declaration, whereby the British Foreign Secretary had written to Lord Rothschild, offering the territory of Palestine to the zionist Jews as a homeland, over a hundred thousand British troops were pulled out of the Western front, where they were fighting Germany, and sent to attack the Turkish troops then holding Palestine (which was part of the Ottoman Empire at the time).

This not only allowed Britain to deliver on its bizarre promise to the Zionists (she could not have given away territory she did not possess), but it resulted in considerable loss of life among the British troops sent to fight the Turks, and appallingly heavy casualties on the Western front, which had been left gravely weakened in order to serve the aspirations that would lead to the establishment of Israel.

Flinging ad hominem attacks and insults, as you did in your ill-judged post, without having the faintest clue what you are talking about, is the sign of a fool – and an arrogant fool at that.

  The British troops, including the NZ Mounted Brigade, were in the region first to defend the Suez Canal, from the Turks.
  
  They fought them in Sinai, then up through Palestine into Syria. The British were also fighting the Turks in Iraq (or as it was known at the time, Mesopotamia). Many of the troops fighting the Turks there were from India.
  
  Suez was then a crucial link between India, Australia, and Britain.
  
  The Dardanelles naval and land battles against the Turks were related to the route through the Black Sea to the then ally, Tsarist Russia.
  
  It’s wrong to say hundreds of thousands of British troops were withdrawn from the Western Front to fight the Turks to establish a Jewish state.

  Well before the Balfour Declaration, the British cabinet, appalled by the horrendous casualties on the Western Front, was divided on the best solution for defeating Germany – keep attacking the main enemy force in France and Belgium, or defeat Germany indirectly by knocking out its allies and supporting their own allies, eg, Serbia.
  
  In the spring of 1918, British forces came very close to defeat because Lloyd George kept sizeable reserves in England rather than France out of fear that Haig would waste them in another offensive.
  
  As Jack5 and Stephieboy point out, there were more important priorities in grand strategy than concern for Jews.

    kiwi Dave , I do beleive that Palestine and other Ottoman territories fitted into the Grand Strategy and that the former were an important to Germany . But you right the question of a Jewish state did not become important till after the war where Britain under the Versailles Treaty was given the Palestine Mandate .

My god. Auckland Transport and NZTA will be really looking forward to opening their emails after the Christmas break, not.

Airport approaches – gridlocked regularly due to roadworks starting at the worst possible time of the year.

Warkworth bypass & new routes 5 years away, while houses are popping up like mushrooms, the place is going to make the news a lot this summer.

These are only two examples, there are many more.

        I’ve never voted in Michigan but I am chief judge at a precinct in my state.
        
        This is how it works. We use paper ballots. The voter presents at the check-in judge who locates the voter on the poll book, checks them off, and issues a “voter authority card.” The voter takes the “voter authority card’ to the “voting judge” where they get a ballot. The ballot is fed through an OCR scanner which registers a count. At the end of the night the number of votes on the machine has to equal then number of voters checked in. Otherwise, a ballot-by-ballot audit is done. If someone is not on the poll book and requests a “provisional ballot,” those ballots are put in a separate locked container. It is a very simple and robust system that requires active knavery to screw it up. From reading about this is seems that Michigan has a similar system.
        
        To put it bluntly, it is physically impossible for there to be more ballots run through the OCR scanner than voters who signed the poll book. It cannot happen unless someone is stuffing the ballot box. Seals cannot be “accidentally” broken on the ballot containers.

  I don’t recall any great concerns from the WaPo or the other MSM sources after the 2014 hacking of the White House computer systems – which was finally attributed to the Russians. CNN had something to say about it – after the mid-term elections were over; it would have been a bad ‘narrative’ for the Obama Administration to hammer on their failures before the election (not that it did the Democrats any good anyway).

One imagines the viewership would be massive, probably go to world-wide syndication rights as well, so the iwi would be very keen, one imagines. From a press release this afternoon

“Solid Energy confirms that it has, and has always had, the access rights to the Pike River Mine it acquired from Pike River Coal Ltd,” the company said in a statement.

“We accept that there was a genuine misunderstanding, but have now been advised by the land owner that he has told the protesters that they do not have the legal right to occupy the land.

“It is understood the protesters will now remove the gates they erected to block Solid Energy’s access.”

God knows what made the landowner think he could hand it over to them in the first place. And why Bernie Monk should have thought they could simply block an access road that has been in place for years. Yet again Monk has stirred those poor people up only to have their false hopes dashed. He is really quite thoughtless.

As for irony, it is the internet and related free speech that democracy values which makes such nations vulnerable to others in their political process (why Putin employs so many people to work on managing the news/alt media around the world).

      Why just look at the turmoil, look at the conflicts and the players, look at things like fake news, AGW, pizza gate, Syria, 911, the war on tewwor, the immigration crises, geopolitics and other things that all reflect what we’ve been saying, don’t they. This week’s NZCPR Guest Commentator, former Judge and law lecturer Anthony Willy, has kindly provided an excellent analysis of Sir Geoffrey’s proposed constitution for readers. On the inclusion of the Treaty, he says:

“The authors don’t appear to recognise the inconsistency in abolishing the Monarch as our head of state on the one hand and enshrining the Treaty of Waitangi in a written constitution on the other. The document which the authors wish to become the basis of our right to be in New Zealand was a compact between the British monarch and a number of tribal Chiefs who purported to bind the members of their various tribes in exchanging mutual promises. To call it a ‘treaty’ is a misnomer. At international law Treaties can only be made between sovereign states. At the time of the signing of this document there was no recognised sovereign governing the lands of New Zealand. At best therefore the document is little more than an agreement under seal between consenting parties.”

But the “sleeper” issue in New Zealand is race relations. The fact is that ‘race’ is now being used to grant statutory privilege to advance the wealth of a relatively small group of iwi leaders. It is an issue that may present a surprise result at next year’s election. It is also an issue the Labour-Greens bloc will ignore, as they too kowtow to Maori interests.

What is unknown at this stage is whether the Prime Minister will adopt the principled approach he had when he was last National’s leader and advocate for one standard of citizenship and the abolition of the Maori seats – or whether he will opt for short-term, and short-sighted, political convenience.

Irrespective of his long term approach, there is a more urgent matter that he will need to address.

Last month, the NZCPR reported on how the Minister for the Environment, Nick Smith, had included the iwi leaders’ new race-based provision Mana Whakahono a Rohe in the Resource Legislation Amendment Bill – after the public submission process was over.

By deliberately denying public consultation on such a radical measure, the Minister has manipulated the Parliamentary process for the benefit of an interest group that, as a result, stands to make significant financial gain in the future.

According to iwi leaders, these amendments will give them full power and control over tribal areas or ‘rohe’, including “the handling of resource consent applications, notification decisions, monitoring and enforcement”.

With tribal areas essentially covering the whole country, and some councils having to deal with up to 20 different iwi, Nick Smith’s changes are a recipe for disruption, costs and delays.

In fact, reports are already emerging of the sorts of problems that could be expected. In this case, an iwi is reported to be disrupting a council plan to implement a ‘Healthy Rivers’ initiative, that covers over a million hectares, because they claim it could affect their tribal ‘rohe’:

“A legal battle is shaping up over the future direction of the Healthy Rivers plan following Waikato Regional Council’s decision to pull part of the catchment from the plan until iwi issues are dealt with. Despite the Hauraki region not being included in the Healthy Rivers plan, Hauraki iwi were claiming rohe (ancestral land) running through north Waikato to the river’s mouth near Tuakau, was captured by the plan. They had threatened legal action against the council for a lack of consultation. The council then opted to withdraw the affected 120,000ha, amounting to about 11% of the plan’s catchment area, from the plan.”

The situation has been described as a complete mess, with judicial reviews being planned to halt the process, until the fiasco with the iwi is sorted out.

But without a doubt, this is a portend of what’s to come, if National goes ahead and includes tribal self-determination in the RMA.

The NZCPR believes Nick Smith’s actions are an affront to democracy and the Parliamentary process. The Bill should be withdrawn.

As we turn the final page on 2016, the resignation of John Key, has given the new Prime Minister the opportunity, to not only reshuffle Cabinet, but to re-examine policy positions as well.

It seems likely that National under Bill English will differentiate itself by being more focussed on policy than it was in the past. And, I suspect, that as the general election draws closer, it will be more pragmatic in looking for parties to work with in the future.

  The last thing Key wanted was controversy so he naturally gave the vexed question of RMA reform which as it’s turned out delay of which was mightily responsible for the massive Akld housing bubble (which is a threat to the whole economy), to the affable Nick, who proceeded to bungle his way through years of nothing much changing, while apparently, something was.
