NZ Post’s trial of having posties spy on households and sell the information for personalised marketing must rank as one of the most stupid in recent times, and of course public fury has halted it.
At first it was the state of the house paint for Resene Paints. Then it would be a note of the age of cars for car dealers. Then the age of any residents for financial services companies, whether or not they have a burglar alarm for security companies, their lawn size for gardening companies etc. Hey even better why not just have NZ Post take photos of every house, car and person they meet and put them in a database which they sell access to.
