National and Greens in a tree, k i s s i n g

Heh not quite, that old ditty just came to mind.

John Armstrong has an excellent analysis of the National-Greens relationship.

At first he covers National and Green MPs attending each other’s parties. Now this is in fact not a big thing. I can recall Green MPs attending a previous National party, and I even have been invited to a Green party in the past (sadly seem to be off current invite list – hint hint!).

Armstrong covers that people may read some significance into the party attending, on top of the dog micro-chipping vote. But he correctly states that at the end of the day the Greens and National disagree on 90% of policies and a post-election deal is never going to be a flyer.

But there is room for some co-operation in the House, such as gifting surplus question spots to the Greens when they are running a good attack line on the Govt. Sounds pretty sensible. Temporary alliances are at the heart of good warfare 🙂
