I’d imagine that the assessment wouldn’t be infallible on a micro-economic scale but would be accurate, and contain all the relevant macro-economic data and a list of choices and conditions which would be rated by their statistical probability of success.

The consequences of this assistance would be measured and evaluated, and abandoned if proven ineffective. Everything would be subjected to rigorous scientific method.

CHICAGO—IntercontinentalExchange Inc. told traders Friday that it would shut down its U.S. emissions derivatives platform, a year after acquiring its parent only to suffer sparse trading as the prospects of a federal carbon-reduction plan remain dim.

The money-losing Chicago Climate Futures Exchange venture will continue operating through the first quarter of 2012 before closing, exchange officials said in a notice.

Innovation is outside of science by definition true innovation is an un quantified effect.
Could we realize the webs effects face book blogs trade me etc etc no we could not begin to envisage the changers hooking a few computers together would have in such a short space of time changes that we still dont understand

About a hundred & eighty years ago Stephenson developed “The Rocket” & set in place the transport system that would allow Britain to become the first industrialised nation. At this time no man had traveled faster than the speed of a galloping horse. Imagine if he had to run his ideas past a committee of bureaucrats who probably owned horse stables & were guided by the macro economic knowledge of the day.

Given these restrictions do you think that railways would have ever been built?

I reckon the inventor/engineer I have the greatest respect for would be Isambard Kingdom Brunel. What this man accomplished in one too short life was amazing.

Given that he had a gift for pushing the tyrants & pen pushers of his day to the limit I wonder how he would have fared against the super bureaucracy we now have to contend with.

To me, saying that the free market model can’t be improved upon, is akin to the prevalent attitude in the late nineteenth century that presumed that there wasn’t any more science left to be discovered.

I concede though, that the prospect of a bureaucratic benevolent big brother ordering our lives does have a nightmarish quality to it. Might already be happening…..

Reminds me of Douglas Adams idea for God’s last words to his creation:

“We Apologize For The Inconvenience”

A blonde woman was in deep financial trouble, so decided to kidnap a child and demand a ransom.
She went to a local park, grabbed a little boy, took him behind a tree and wrote this note: “I’ve kidnapped your child. Leave $25,000 in a plain brown bag behind the oak tree in the park by 7:00 am tomorrow.”
The note was signed: The Blonde.
She pinned the note inside the little lad’s jacket and told him to go straight home.
The next morning, the blonde returned to the park to find $25,000 in a brown bag, just as she’d instructed.
Inside the bag was the following note: “Here’s your money. I can’t believe one blonde would do this to another!”

Govt ‘could fall victim’ to Skynet law

Questions are being asked about whether Parliament is at risk of having its INTERNET connection cut off when the new Skynet law comes into force.

The Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Act comes into force from September 1. But, from tomorrow, breaches started counting towards the three strikes regime – although infringement notices could not be issued until next month.

Seems Treasury doesn’t think we should require the Govt. to restrain spending.

Its full of socialists so why are we surprised?

Treasury did not support imposing constraints on the ability of the Government to set fiscal strategy via hard parameters in law.

It preferred to enhance transparency under the Public Finance Act 1989 such as requiring the Government to state its longterm expenses in numerical terms.
