  I recently saw a 12 pack of sanitary products for $2 in countdown.
  
  That’s about two months worth.
  
  ex GST thats $1.74 a grand saving of 26c
  
  Alternatively a cigarette costs about $1.25.
  
  One less Cigarette per month, (or beer) solves the problem.
  
  One less Hamburger solves the problem for 6 months.
  
  If we can find a family that doesn’t subscribe to these “vices” which still cannot afford these products then I will personally whip $12 out of my wallet and solve the problem for a year.

    I’m not a domain expert and only top shelf fluffy goods for my family, so I used $6 for 16 per cycle.
    
    Apparently the $2 stuff is rubbish and false economy as you need to use twice as much.
    
    Apparently even with the good stuff you want to be changing about 4 per day, so the 12 for two months would seem to be a bit tight.
    
    Still, the main point stands. The GST on $6 is only 78 cents per cycle, $10 per year.

Early Childhood Education (ECE)
We will have 80% trained teacher by 2022 and will work on 100% after that.
Then later admits that almost all ECE schools have 80% now.
So not much of a promise, is it Chris? by 2022 (4 years)
Q: How did we go from about , a few hundred job vacancies a year 2 years ago and before, to NEEDING 6000 new “teachers”.
OOHHH….you changed the definition of what a “teacher” is…didn’t you Chris?

    Another great TV program was ‘The Secret Lives of Four Year Olds’ – it’s really fascinating and sometimes hilarious how the little ones make friends, lose friends, fall in love and choose their friends.   Best school teacher my daughter had was ….. a Chinese man with a thick accent and probably no degree.
  
  He was absolutely fantastic and the kids loved him.
  
  There is no science behind teaching kids at this young age having any positive impact on future life.
  
  At a young age the positive impact comes from learning emotions, feeling loved, feeling secure and trying new experiences!

Former IRD deputy commissioner Robin Oliver is a member of the Tax Working Group, and is indicating deep divisions among members.

Very telling is this –

While the official line of the Sir Michael Cullen-chaired group is that it was trying to make New Zealand’s tax system fairer, the reality is the group was set up to design a capital gains tax regime, Oliver said.

What a shock, who could ever have guessed it!

    Maori greed is endless; we compensate them handsomely for the supposed confiscation of land which, in fact, they never owned (and not all of which they even occupied). They’ve also been granted ‘Treaty recognition’ in respect of the electromagnetic spectrum, despite the fact that they didn’t have the remotest idea about physics, before the Europeans arrived (and I’ll vouch that the overwhelming majority of Maori – and even our politicians – still don’t have the first idea of what the electromagnetic spectrum actually comprises).
    And wait to see what they have to say about water ownership: suddenly, Maori spirituality will have a hefty price tag attached.

What a fantastic cricket test over the last few days. The bowling performance of the Black Caps last night was superb, especially left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel, who took five wickets in the second innings on debut.

The cynics will say it was another dodgy Pakistan choke, but pressure can do that. As the wickets fell, and Pakistan needed 15 runs with one wicket left, the tension in our home was palpable. And when Patel dismissed Azhar Ali for 65 to win the match, I apologise to any neighbours of mine awoken from their slumber.

Of all the sports I follow, cricket is my one true love. I was born in the year New Zealand was bowled out by England for 26, which was probably an omen. The New Zealand team has delivered some fantastic highs and some devastating lows in the nera 60 years I have followed them, but last night was something else again.

Kudos to all the Black Caps players, and a special mention to Gary Stead, coaching the side in his first test. We have a great group of players now, and I cannot wait until 7pm on Saturday night when the second test begins in Dubai.

    Interestingly, the playing XI contained five players not born in New Zealand; Wagner (Pretoria, South Africa), Patel (Mumbai, India), Sodhi (Ludhiana, India), Raval (Gujarat, India) and Watling (Durban, South Africa). Immigration has its positives, in cricket, at least.

  KS – an ancestor of mine played in the February 2nd 1864 cricket match between All England and Otago – held in Dunedin.
  The match report states that Otago “totalled 71 on a disgraceful wicket” and “the Englishmen were hard pressed and scored only 99” in the first innings.
  However, Otago had 22 players in their side and they all took the field and all batted.
  England won by 9 wickets.

    To be fair, the Pakistani batting was no better, and the 249 New Zealand scored in the second innings was the highest batting total of the match. But often, low scoring test matches provide the most drama.
    
    Let’s also not forget that they are playing in conditions which SHOULD suit the Pakistan side, give they play almost all their “home” cricket in UAE and Dubai now. It’s not as though we knocked them over on a juicy seamer.

The Minister responsible for Pike River re-entry, Andrew Little, says the previous government should make a public apology for its failures at the mine.

Should any apology not await completion of the re-entry, so everyone knows whether the current actions – and perhaps false expectations – should be included in any apology?

[And for a Minister of Justice to consider – to what extent is an apology an admission of guilt and to what extent is that then legally actionable for prosecution or compensation? And how valid will any of this be when most likely the majority of remains and evidence will lie in the mine itself beyond the rockfall and so beyond recovery or examination, and final determination of cause?]

  If you have been to Port Moresby, you’ll know those cars will not stay in the country for long. Aside from there being no way to service the cars & other than the new Chinese highway, there are no roads in the city suitable to drive the cars.
  
  Given what a corrupt place PNG is, I’ll guarantee you that each one of those cars will head to Australia, Indonesia, the Phillipines or Singapore. As for the money, don’t ask.
  
  For the doubters, I lived & worked in PNG for 2 years. While living their I witnessed relatives of politicians run off with Asian Development Bank money, a politician turn rogue such that a family had to be escorted on an Aussie military/diplomatic flight, a dusk to dawn curfew because criminal/rascals activity was threatening the hosting of the South Pacific Games in the country.

Here we have just seen something like $28.5 million having been gifted to PNG, one of the most corrupt countries in the Region.
Mr O’Neil, Premier controls one of the most undesirable countries along with his handpicked coterie of political friends. Bribery is endemic.
So did we also participate additionally in providing 4 new Bentleys and 28 Maserati cars for the meeting ? They were garaged as riots would have taken place if they were seen.
By now they will all have been given to friends or flogged off to special people.
So I wonder what else Ardern will do to try and get herself to the UN – which she will not do – her predecessor fared very poorly so it will reflect on Ardern and babee.
I hear that there are enormous waiting list for Child Dentistry currently – months of waiting for free treatment.
With this money which O’Neil would not give thanks for – cancelling the Princesses meeting at the last moment, along with the ridiculous Pike River fiasco could pay for these children’s teeth to be seen, with some left over for the Teachers.
But these children must pledge not to drink loaded sugar – some hope.

        I think you will find that Ross Adern is now domiciled in Auckland having completed his term as HC in Nuie. He was appointed Administrator for Tokelau earlier this year and took up the position in May. Neve’s grandmother is handy for babysitting I suppose.

        “As if there wasn’t enough wasteful spending at home in New Zealand, Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters yesterday confirmed the Government will give more than $40 million in aid to Papua New Guinea – a country with a shocking and recent record of funnelling aid money to private benefits.
        
        This new $40 million is on top of the $15 million Kiwi taxpayers already gave for the country to host APEC – money that went to the slush fund that Papua New Guinea’s government used to spend $7 million on a fleet of Maseratis and Bentleys.
        On behalf of taxpayers we have publicly called on Winston Peters to take a tougher line on foreign governments accepting New Zealand aid.
        Just this morning there are reports of a company owned by the prime minister receiving a $32 million contract from the Asian Development Bank, but only carrying out 10 percent of the work.
        
        Winston Peters needs to take a tough stance against corrupt foreign governments getting their hands on our money. Sadly, he appears to be naïve.

    2. The roads are shit there with the exception of the new Chinese highway. From now until March it is the wet season, the roads degenerate into nothing but potholes and craters. They then fill the holes in about May.
    
    So, what do you do with a low profile limo in a shithole like Port Moresby, export it to your holiday home on the Queensland coast.

IMHO if it was Christians doing the terrorism then here in NZ all Christian Churches would be subject to overt scrutiny with the religious leaders required by law to report any suspicious followers to the authorities.

The penalty would be that if they didn’t and a follower committed a terrorist act the religious leader would be tried alongside them for the same crime.

Christians would be regularly questioned by the authorities and their houses subject to search without warrant.

Citizens would be told by the Government that all and any activity against the Christians was necessary to protect the population from Christian Terrorism.

Moderate Christians would be treated as terrorists by the rest of the population until they were able to prove otherwise.

HNZ Build is established to effectively underwrite risk for housing developments that wouldn’t raise finance on their own merits. HNZ Build will then be the vendor for legal purposes and have to provide a warranty on the houses. They will also wear any loss between the cost of the build and the sale price.

There are half a dozen swathy men of working age (who should be at work) who are tatooed and are waving flags. There’s the red and black Maori separatist flag, and the 1834 United Tribes of NZ flag (I thought these two didn’t get along?). No sign of the NZ national flag (no surprises there).
The men were holding up signs extoling “No sale of our land.”
For a moment I felt like joining in to protest the handing over of overship of the summits of the hills of Auckland to exclusive Maori organizations bent on depriving Kiwis of their customary rights of a drive up to the top of the hill to see the sunset.
But common sense prevailed.

The 0.7% is a UN wish. Not what most countries are actually spending!! Yet jacinda wants to double or triple our foreign aid spending. She has eyes on a UN job and is using the taxpayer cash to fund her application.

Only 2 Questions, to ask:
1. Did it meet the design spec.s for the time it was built? If so then shut up (will we be going after the designer of the Auckland Harbour bridge for all the car crashes on it?)
2.Did it survive an earthquake?

  The fact the building survived the original earthquake would indicate it was fit for purpose (Structure maintains status for period to allow people to safely egress), and if there were cracks or separations in the structure post the first earthquake, then I agree the onus was on those that approved re-entry to now show how they established safety and integrity for the building – Given the council was involved, I wouldn’t hold your breath & easier to go after a soft target.

Dear Mum & Dad,

I am well. Hope youse are too. Tell me big brothers Doug and Phil that the Army is better than workin’ on the station – tell them to get in bloody quick smart before the jobs are all gone! I wuz a bit slow in settling down at first, because ya don’t hafta get outta bed until 6am. But I like sleeping in now, cuz all ya gotta do before brekky is make ya bed and shine ya boots and clean ya uniform. No bloody horses to get in, no calves to feed, no troughs to clean – nothin’!! Ya haz gotta shower though, but its not so bad, coz there’s lotsa hot water and even a light to see what ya doing!

At brekky ya get cereal, fruit and eggs but there’s no kangaroo steaks or goanna stew like wot Mum makes. You don’t get fed again until noon and by that time all the city boys are buggered because we’ve been on a ‘route march’ – geez its only just like walking to the windmill in the bullock paddock!!

This one will kill me brothers Doug and Phil with laughter. I keep getting medals for shootin’ – dunno why. The bullseye is as big as a bloody dingo’s arse and it don’t move and it’s not firing back at ya like the Johnsons did when our big scrubber bull got into their prize cows before the Ekka last year! All ya gotta do is make yourself comfortable and hit the target – it’s a piece of p…!! You don’t even load your own cartridges, they comes in little boxes, and ya don’t have to steady yourself against the rollbar of the roo shooting truck when you reload!

Sometimes ya gotta wrestle with the city boys and I gotta be real careful coz they break easy – it’s not like fighting with Doug and Phil and Jack and Boori and Steve and Muzza all at once like we do at home after the muster.
Turns out I’m not a bad boxer either and it looks like I’m the best the platoon’s got, and I’ve only been beaten by this one bloke from the Engineers – he’s 6 foot 5 and 15 stone and three pick handles across the shoulders and as ya know I’m only 5 foot 7 and eight stone wringin’ wet, but I fought him till the other blokes carried me off to the boozer.

I can’t complain about the Army – tell the boys to get in quick before word gets around how bloody good it is.

  Mass shootings only kill around 200 people per year in the whole of USA – less than 2% of all the shooting deaths in USA.
  
  Even in Chicago, there are around 700 murders a year, so spending a disproportionate amount of time on the mass shooting that takes out ten people is a poor investment.
  
  If you really are worried about deaths in USA, especially Chicago (St Barrack’s old town), then you’d do far better worrying about its sanctuary city status that makes it the murder capital of USA.
  
  BTW: Chicago is one of the shithole sanctuary cities that Trump is trying to clean up, but is blocked by all the dumb lefties. You can’t blame this on him.

  Thirty seven years ago I attended two events that made the world news on the BBC. In both cases the BBC’s coverage of those two events was so far ahead of NZ’s media that it was embarrassing. Now the BBC have descended into the pits of despair. That is sad.

  Disgruntled police and prison guards stormed Papua New Guinea’s Parliament today in a pay dispute that stemmed from the APEC summit hosted by the South Pacific island nation over the weekend, a lawmaker said.

    One died outside the specific time when charges could be laid & for presumably legal reasons the police didn’t proceed with two others.

Out Howick way I couldn’t get over how many “shed” churches there are. So you buy a tin shed give yerself a name and the flock sinners come a running-so many empty innner city Churches going to ruin but in the suburbs, on the fringes, it’s a big deal-presumably there’s mammon to be made.

Elim Christian Centre’s John Roberts said his church responded to a council survey by saying it was used totally for church purposes.

Elim’s rates bill skyrocketed anyway.

“A few months ago, we received our annual rates assessment, which had increased from the $400 rubbish collection charge to $21,000,” Roberts said.

“That caused a bit of a shock – no explanation, no valuer had been to visit, no consultation, just a new policy and a massive bill.

“Thankfully, as a result of assistance from members from this committee and others, a valuer was fairly quickly dispatched to check the church property, resulting in the rates being reassessed back down to the $400 rubbish charge.”
