        I also am not sure it was a bold declaration. The Pakistani commentators (Christ Morrison and Doull are bloody awful!) were talking defeat before the declaration was made.
        
        At least, for once, Williamson got it right.
        
        I’m still not sold on his captaincy but with the exception of Taylor the team does seem to be working as a team again.

  I might have mentioned about the NZ media bias against trump. This article on stuff today surely takes the cake.
  The headline reads – “Trump could’ve ruined Bush’s funeral. Bush didn’t let him”.
  But actually trump was very kind and civil at the funeral for George Bush. He went out of his way to be kind and gracious.
  
  However things only become clear when you read the byline of the author of this anti trump hit piece –
  “Rick Wilson is a Republican political consultant, a Daily Beast columnist and the author of Everything Trump Touches Dies: A Republican Strategist Gets Real About the Worst President Ever.
  
  The Washington Post”
  
  Basically to get noticed you claim that you are a Republican and then you can be well paid by the mainstream media for trashing the leader of your own party!

    There was a small gathering of feminists ranting about abortions at parliament. It received saturation coverage.
    
    The next day there was a huge protest of thousands at parliament that received no coverage. Turns out Destiny Church was involved.
    
    The point here is that the media won’t report on many things. If they do report on the UN thing, it will be an attack on the protesters as racist etc.

      It is a different one, and is National party specific. The Parliamentary one is apolitical (at least as much as it is possible for something like this to be) and so is likely to carry more weight

      I once stayed in a flash hotel for about five months while I was working on a nearby building site.
      It was great for about a week, but although the accommodation was free the meals were not and unless you like eating takeaways every evening watching foreign tv cooped up in a small room you soon get cabin fever.
      That’s obviously not the same situation, but a long term stay in a tent with AC in the desert in Saudi bloody Arabia is a pretty depressing thought even for a refugee.

True or false, the shit purveyed by Soper and now Edwards pisses me off.
I have exchange emails with DPF over Curia/NP polls and he rightly says they belong to the client. He dOes not publish them.
Moreover, circulation is strictly limited, and the detail now alleged by Soper and Edwards is such that their claims are absolute crap or treason exceeding that of Lord Haw Haw.
This is bloody disgraceful.
National Party Members deserve better.
The polls are for and by National. Either shut up and limited circulation to Bridges, Bennett, Goodfellow and Hamilton or bugger off!

In the latest Colmar Bruton poll
Yes Ardern was top and then Bridges on 7 and Collins on 6.
There were about 10 people on half a percent.
There were 32% don’t know!

So with National getting the highest votes in the poll, most of those don’t knows will be National supporters.

Nice to be home again after travelling around Ireland, southern UK and Singapore.

Winston, Merkel and Putin are kidnapped by ISIS terrorists during an international summit. Today I emailed Andy Fyers from Stuff.
I complained about his article on NZ having high methane emissions due to the fact that we have 10 million cows.
Well there are 1.4 billion cows in the world.
India has 283 million
China has 113 million
The USA 50 million
Indonesia 42 million
etc etc
I pointed out to him that most of the methane our cows produce will be going to feed people in OTHER countries so why do we get singled out?

There were a couple of interesting links to media articles from people here yesterday:

The first link asks “Putting the Sroubek puzzle together is challenging – perhaps a key piece is missing” and in the second one National is accusing Winston Peters of “appearing” to to have launched a campaign against Sroubek’s former wife.

People have been wondering whether there is a link (indirectly) with Sroubek and Labour somehow, but could it be that there is actually a link (indirectly) with Sroubek and NZF?

Personally I cannot see any such links, so don’t think so at all (and to be honest can’t see a link with Labour either), but two curious coincidences which may or may not have any relevance:

i) There have been high profile arrests in the horse racing industry over the last 2-3 months (and even recently still) involving “high-end” drugs. Could Sroubek have been involved (and could he now be an informer, hence the appearance of COL “protection” by not deporting him)? So far the arrests in the horse industry seem to be at the lower levels, but could there be people at the top calling in “political favors” so to speak?

ii) I can’t understand why Winston is being so protective of ILG (and appears to be denigrating his former wife). Both Winston and Jacinda have dragged themselves into the debacle and are adamant ILG has done nothing wrong (and is a “victim” himself says Winston).

So why is WinstonFirst being so protective of Labour, or is that the wrong question … is it WinstonFirst telling Labour (as usual) this is how this case will and must be handled, if so, why?

DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami) – Oh rats, look what we found in the vending machine.

Some students at a Delray Beach high school said they lost their appetite after finding a rat crawling among the snacks in a vending machine.

A video circulating on social media shows a rat inside a vending machine at Atlantic Community High School.

Latoya Johnson said her daughter shot the footage which shows the rat climbing around inside a vending machine and coming in contact with packaged food.

The Palm Beach County School District confirms the incident happened on Tuesday.

A district spokesperson says the principal was immediately made aware and the vending machine was locked so students couldn’t use it.
The vending machine company was called right away. They sent out an exterminator who arrived later that day.

HONOLULU (Tribune News Service) — It’s extra noteworthy that Everett Hyland, who was aboard the USS Pennsylvania during Japan’s Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor, will return the salute of a passing Navy warship at Friday’s anniversary of the attack.

Hyland, 95, will do so on behalf of all Pearl Harbor survivors and World War II veterans as the ship sails by the sunken USS Arizona.

That salute will be extra poignant because there are fewer and fewer survivors to render it themselves.

For the first time in many years, not a single USS Arizona survivor will be present for the 7:50 a.m. 77th commemoration on the back lawn of the Arizona Memorial visitor center.

In total, 1,177 men were killed and more than 900 remained entombed in the battleship.

Just five crewmembers are still alive: Lauren Bruner, 98, Lonnie Cook, 98, Ken Potts, 97, Lou Conter, 97, and Don Stratton, 96. Old age and failing health prevented even a single Arizona survivor from making the lengthy trip to Oahu this year.

Battle lines are drawn over a proposed radical shake-up of the education system which has brought excited praise from liberals but condemnation as “Stalinist” from more traditional schools.

“This is a big, bold and brave move from the taskforce and we welcome it,” said NZ Educational Institute president Lynda Stuart. “We are excited by the opportunities.”

But Auckland Grammar School headmaster Tim O’Connor said the report, by a taskforce led by former principal Bali Haque, “needs to be resisted at all costs”.

“It is a serious attack on state education and on every child’s life chances. We’ll just have to work to ensure that it doesn’t proceed,” he said.

Avondale College principal Brent Lewis said a proposal to transfer all the legal responsibilities of school boards of trustees from elected boards to appointed regional hubs was “real Stalinist stuff”.

The taskforce would reverse key changes made in the last big reforms known as “Tomorrow’s Schools” in 1989, when regional education boards were abolished and every school was given control of its operations budget and staff appointments.

  It would be easy to get into the trenches and debate proposal by proposal on this report. That’s probably the intention.
  
  The correct approach in my view is to ask this. Do we want less parental choice and reduced community contribution in the running of schools, instead opting for more centralised control and reduced accountability?
  
  If the answer is yes then the report should be substantially implemented.
  
  If the answer is no, the the entire report should be discarded.
  
  I’m not saying our education industry doesn’t need change. It does. Desperately. But the type of change it needs isn’t going to come from central planning coupled with reduced parental participation and reduced choice.

  Greens should be concerned about Hydrogen as fuel too. Hydrogen can only be produced from organics or water. To produce it from gas it produces CO2 or CO–the latter is dangerous to green’s health.
  The production from water is the only approved green method. However that takes electricity which has been collected via PV cells or air flow diminishing bird killers. Neither work full time.
  Our COL has recently given $950,000 to a Taranaki company to figure out how to exploit this marvelous saviour gas. No 1 all time Zeppelin remover.
  A decree may have been issued that all NZ long haul trucks are to be converted to run on that gas. As decisions are no longer Cabinet’s concern some asking around is required.

    South Dunedin has been like this for over a century…grandparents lived there since late 40’s and were constantly flooded. I had a rental in close by St Kilda in late 70’s and it seemed to be a constant job to build your section up higher than your neighbours.
    
    Also I have been told that excess flood waters were pumped out to sea thru sewerage system but was stopped after new outflow was constructed and fines DCC would have to pay from prosecutions from environment breaches.

      Kapiti also experiences flooding in some areas after heavy rain. The mayor has explained it is due to blocked drains. The reason the drains are blocked is because eco reports and Iwi consultation is required before any drain connecting to a waterway can be cleared at a cost of up to $50,000 before work can commence.

  Would anyone who receives a benefit from a deceased estate really vote for Labour at the next election, after having paid a considerable amount of tax at the most saddest time in their life – when someone very close has died? Dead people don’t gift money to strangers directly. Charities do it for them. Now the government wants to by law.
  And besides people will then cut back on charitable donations, so as their children receive more and the government is now being ‘charitable’ with their taxes.
  
  I don’t think it will be introduced into law – 10% of $1.5million [which is not unreasonable in a lot of wills in the foreseeable future] is $150k. 20% is $300k. 20% of $3million is $600k!!!!!!
  
  And it’s not only a matter of the deceased being ‘wealthy’ but how poor are the beneficiaries of the will? – how does the government know that they would not be better off with the tax instead?
  
  Poor people are not going to like this tax as much as the rich won’t.
  
  And why should bludgers and public service troughers be entitled to a dead citizens money, after having spent their entire lifetime so far having already lived of it?

This is such a brilliant rebuttal of the adage that an omnipotent, omniscient, compassionate God must necessarily be a sadist because bad things happen to good people.

It’s the old problem of the incompatibility of divine characteristics commonly used by Dawkins et al. Namely an omniscient God must know ahead of time what he will do and can’t change it which means he isn’t omnipotent.

There is no biblical basis for active omniscience, only capacity, and omnipotence does not entail micro management.

Possession is not synonymous with use. “Knowledge really is power” per Daniel Dennett is wrong. Knowledge is knowledge. Power is power. Capacity doesn’t entail action. Even George R R Martin knows this:

    What’s most interesting is where is Ardern? The media has been relentless on National – even though there is no real new news it has been a National Party squirrel fest. Maggie Barry attacked about nothing. Sopers bizarre article against Bridges. Now Simon wins the quote of the year for a stupid mistake. But where is our leader. I can’t remember the last time she was the front pic of the news. Where is she talking about the education working group. Where is she on the Migration Compact. Where is she on kiwibuild. Is she taking a mental health break and is the media trying to create diversions. Because it is now so biased against National it is weird.

Crikey, that Spark campaign featuring Clarke Gayford has popped up as a full size banner advert at the top of the Metservice website!

What did I do to deserve that (is it related to my umm … browsing??) and does this mean he will also appear in Kiwiblog’s side ads soon??!!!

Anyway seriously, what happens during the next election campaign – will Mr Gayford’s publicity stunts be considered to be advertising for the Labour Party???

(Or even worse … would it be considered NOT to be advertising the NZLP and websites/social media will be awash with ads featuring Gayford)???? Arghhhhhh …… 😉

China rolls the workers in our Deep South.

Labour’s chances of tipping National’s Sarah Dowie out of the Invercargill electorate seat have been set back.

This comes from Immigration clearance for the local farmer-cooperative meat processor, the Alliance, to bring in 100 workers from China. This, when according to the union, 700 Southlanders were turned away from jobs at the Alliance last season and now people aged 50 or more are being shut out of jobs there.

Alliance has a relationship with the Chinese firm Grand Farm, and has been bringing in a small number of boners from China to work at another of its plants.

So that use of Asian labour was just the beginning.

Dunedin-based Silver Fern Farms, the other of the big-two NZ meat processors, has sold a 50 per cent stake to a Chinese company, but still maintains it is an NZ co-operative.

The news of Alliance’s approval to bring in more Chinese workers came a week or so after Jacinderella, the Prime Minister, opened a $17 million expansion at the meat plant. That says it all.

Labour has long since become the party of the Leftist elite, rather than the party of working people.

Time for a new movement of the Left, interested in families and pay of working people, a movement that’s nationalistic and puts the country’s own people first.

It doesn’t seem like there’s anyone in NZ prepared to put up a fight against the sell-out of the country’s working people.

In Southland, the unions could start by stirring up locals to the local-body layabouts who have a plethora of free trips to China.

Get working people on to the councils, then get hold of the local Labour Party so the Invercargill candidate is a worker with fire in the belly. At the last election, Labour put up a Dunedin academic as Invercargill candidate.

Here’s a real Chinese political lesson for Southlanders, the Mao Tse-Tung version of an ancient Chinese saying: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

        I am not anti immigration, but this is absurd. I don’t care where the workers are from, just that 100 Southland folk are denied jobs.
        
        I am also concerned about the bigger picture. Many other countries treat workers very differently to us and this could lead to a regression in the conditions and pay of all workers in NZ.
        
        I would have no problem if these were technical specialists we really needed, but this is not the case here.
