61+ children have died as a result of non-accidental injuries in New Zealand in the last 10 years.

Where have been the candle light vigils for these innocents? Prime Ministerial tears? Any tears by the worst Prime Minister ever in public during the nine long years when nothing else was done except turn up to eat lunch?

  I watched Hilary Barry and her buffoon sidekick after the news last night ( wanted to see their take on the case)
  
  They used the occasion of the virtue signalling vigils to list and show the pictures of some 13 women killed by men.
  Apart from a couple of whites ,an Indian ,a Chinese and 2 who couldn’t be identified , the majority were maori.
  
  So the killing of Grace has been turned into an anti male festival of hate by the agenda driven media.
  
  Not only that they refuse to address the racial aspect of this criminality.
  
  All illegal violence is to be deplored , not just this hashtag shite.
  
  I note too that a number of the vigils were attended or led by left wing male pollies……to them , Why are you soft on sentencing , while deploring the results of years of your “progressive” social engineering?

    Fact is the murder rate is at a 40 year low. The majority of the people murdered are men. The most murdered group are Maori MEN.

        Czech is right. The media have thrashed this tragedy almost to the point where one is hardened to it. The media has engendered an anti-male element in the matter while it is a crime…a terrible crime but one where only a single person is responsible. For Ardern to tell the world that all NZ’ers feel shame for this murder is despicable yet the media lapped it up and twisted it into the anti-male garbage which is being propelled around the traps constantly. NZ’ers ought feel embarrassment about the appalling media in this country but not feel shame for the actions of a single criminal.

And we’ve been told it’s not in the public interest and that she didn’t know, using tricky words. The questions were clear and she had every opportunity to present the truth during question time but was allowed to play cute supported by Mallard and W. Peters. Instead she has an assistant release the information after question time closes. And the media cover for her.     However, I really have to say that poor Simon Bridges just doesn’t have the communication skills to get the message across. Even with Mike Hosking trying to help him out he just seems to scramble the guts of what he’s saying with badly enunciated waffle.
    
    I listened carefully and I could understand what the guy was saying…. but I’m sure the average listener just blanked it out as ‘too hard on the ears to listen to’.

    Start with the divorce payment, which even the House of Lords has said the Brits don’t have to pay (& the HoL is stacked with pro EU MPs).
    Then there is the retention of many of the clauses of many the EU treaties that were enshrined into UK legislation.
    The problem of the Customs Union & NI has been ham fisted. Yes, there is the peace accord, but there are options which May didn’t entertain.
    
    Her problem is she gave too much, got a bad deal & is now stuck. She didn’t read the Europeans right, she offered up money & got nothing for it. Germany has always needed Britain in the EU more than Britain has needed the EU, but British politicians stupidity/veinity has never allowed them to realise this. They have always wanted to be the centre of the club, & they have always failed, because they didn’t understand the EU.

      I think the biggest issue for May was having EU fanatic and bureaucrat Ollie Robbins ( I hope I have the right name) as her key adviser. Or perhaps it was a case of accepting him into the position when he was actually planted there by remainers like Blair (he used to work for Blair).
      
      Also it not over yet in that if the confidence vote fails then they cannot challenge May for another 12 months. A lot of damage could be done during that time.

  The problem is Northern Ireland. It was in a state resembling civil war until the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Leaving the customs union will require revisiting that agreement and the only thing everyone can agree on is that this would be very difficult.

In Stuff today two MPs debate the issue of NZPost branches closing.

Rongotai Labour MP Mr Eagle gets almost tearful as he tells that his local branch allows customers to practice the forgotten art of chatting. Really? Really??

Perhaps he should encourage his constituents to take the bus as I can assure him there’s a good deal of chatting going on there these days. And not in a good way as passengers try to figure out where to get on and off, and connect the 2 or 3 times needed to get to their destination.

Rongotai MP Paul Eagle says that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to his local post shop. It doesn’t just offer postal services – it’s a community hub where locals come together and practice the forgotten art of chatting. He gets quite emotional about his local post shop and the role it plays in connecting people.

  Stephie – I have nothing but the deepest respect for David Millane for having been able to show such grace in what must be the most traumatic time for him and his family. I doubt if I could be so gracious in the same situation.
  
  At around the same time as I was escorting my daughter down the aisle last Saturday, Mr Millane was being told by New Zealand Police that his daughter had been murdered. He will never get to experience the same joy with Grace that I experienced with my daughter on a gorgeous North Canterbury day. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain he must be suffering.

Not a surprise. Yesterday i had the bad luck to turn on Newstalkzb in Wellington. There was a woman known as HDPA. Putting the boot into Air New Zealand because they had the gall to stand up to a back to the future type of the 1970s bully boy trade union. Yes the flap jaw pie face clown went into a vicious vitriol type of dressing down of Air New Zealand that they had the temerity to address the E-TU and hadn’t immediately buckled to the circa $150,000 earning engineers. Yes the same blood suckers who live off the paying public and get subsidised air fares up to 90% as well.Not forgetting holding the multi thousand air line passengers to ransom.Seems by now the bully boy knee capping tactics of E-TU have been satisfied.
All Air New Zealand were doing was trying to run a business. Wonder how pie-face HDPA would fare if all advertisers pulled their support of the station Newstalkzb that unfortunately has employed her.Makes one wonder how all of us survived in Wellington before flap jaw pie-face HDPA turned up to work for Newstalkzb. She has become a total embarrassment for the station with her daily flap jaw out of control rants attacking any unfortunates who cross her path.

  I have been a loyal Air New Zealand customer for a long time but I’m thinking of giving up. The Koru lounge is attractive but even that is getting stale. I swear they have not changed the cheese selection or the Moroccan chick pea dish since 2000. Last week the Auckland lounge was packed and had out of control kids.

This line from the Herald story about Richie Hardcore’s text to the Prime Minister cuts right to the heart of the matter:

In a September 2014 photo, he called Ardern “one of the smartest, coolest & compassionate people I’m lucky enough to call a friend.”

It’s clear that Hardcore, Ardern and probably Gayford have been friends for some time. They hang in the same circles. Hardcore particpated in Ardern’s campaign launch when she contested the Mt Albert by-election, and campaigned alongside her during last year’s General Election.

Frankly, this doesn’t pass the sniff test. In politics, perception is everything, as Barry Soper has opined in this morning’s Herald. No doubt, his piece was penned before last night’s revelation about Hardcore and Ardern.

And the perception is that Ardern knew a damn sight more about the Sroubek case than she has previously admitted. There is a strong suspicion that she has misled Parliament, and if that is the case, she needs to front up today and make a Prime Ministerial statement correcting the record.

His new girlfriend is another ex tv 3 reporter is described in an article as best friends with Samantha Hayes. And when you add into that small circle the PM and her Media husband. And also the PM’s bodyguard linked to another political reporter. So yes it’s an extremely small circle of insiders, and the current Hardcore news is about people who are linked to their media work colleagues. I know I am late to the party on this, but I just watched the whole video of the Trump Whitehouse meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.

Very, very smart. Trump ran for office on the back of the promise of the wall being built, It’s still not built (an unfulfilled campaign promise) but now the public can see exactly who is holding up the wall from being built. Trump is pulling out the big guns and threatening to shut down the government if it isn’t funded and taking full responsibility for a shutdown. I reckon that is what the people who voted for him would want – for him to put his foot down.

It’s apparent that it is only Democrats that are stopping it. They are the ones who want open borders and to shut down ICE. As I said, Trump has demonstrated this very clearly by being “transparent” and debating part of this in the most public way possible.

Woz (8:46 am), you raise a very important point that appears to have been overlooked. Surely it must be time to call for nominations for Cunt of the Year.

I think there should be two categories: Domestic and International, with an overall top prize of Grand Cunt Global.

Given prevailing usage of the term, persons of any gender should qualify in either category and besides, having fifteen gender categories in order to cater for gender identity would result in a somewhat unwieldy 31 awards.

NZ users search name of Millane’s accused more than 50,000 times

Computer users in New Zealand have searched for the identity of the 26-year-old man accused of murdering Grace Millane more than 50,000 times, Google statistics show. Search giant Google also emailed the name to anyone signed up to its “what’s trending in New Zealand” email.

Andrew Little weighs in:

Justice Minister Andrew Little has rebuked UK media for naming the murder accused, warning their actions risk jeopardising a fair trial, which could heap more misery on the grieving Millane family. … The naming of the man, which has also happened in social media, could be used to argue that he won’t get a fair trial, Little said.

First, it’s not Andrew Little’s place to lecture UK media. Second, for anyone who’s interested, I heard this 7-minute interview last week. It relates to a cold-case that’s been reopened after 26 million people downloaded a podcast, and new information came to light. The person interviewed, who’s a professor of law, discusses the “fair trial” issues in relation to this case in some detail. He points out that a judge-alone trial would be the obvious legal mechanism to address any perceived unfairness.

I think similar arguments could be made in this case – if (which I doubt – at least on current information) the accused man can establish that he’s been deprived of a right to a fair trial. I think Andrew Little’s witterings on this matter are unnecessary and unhelpful.

    He doesn’t, actually. A charge of murder will have been laid indictably, so trial by jury is automatic, not by election.
    
    However if his lawyers believe that he cannot get a fair trial, he could apply to have the case heard by a judge alone.

        I don’t think it’s at all hasty MT. In cases where the coroner is involved (sudden deaths, accidents, homicides etc), every effort is made to complete the post mortem as quickly as possible. Once that has been done, and relevant samples taken for evidential purposes, there is no reason why the body cannot be released provided the cause of death has been established by the pathologist to the satisfaction of the coroner.

She and ILG have taken 6 weeks to acknowledge that there is a personal connection between the PM and Richie Hardcore.

It’s probably not unexpected that she also knows John Sinclair, husband of the prominent lawyer Mai Chen.

How much influence did the PM’s personal connections play in ILG’s decision to grant Drug-importer Sroubek residency?

    Yes they do. And if that is where it begins and ends then, fine. But, surely, if that were the case, then Ardern would have been quite upfront and released the text to preempt any suspicion, being part of the most open and honest government ever.
    
    But the amount of obfuscating by the PM and ILG over this makes me think otherwise.
    
    We know that the PM, her partner, and other prominent Labour people hang around with Hardcore. We know that Hardcore was mates with Sroubek. So, reading between the lines, why shouldn’t we make the leap that the PM, her partner, and other Labour people also knew Sroubek?

This Sroubek thing is revealing. The article by Braunis in the Herald revealed that Hardcore is linked to politicians and media folk – heavily linked.

Like I’ve said before: the media re part of this as they will have been clients of Sroubek. The Hell’s Angels did not get to where they are by being stupid. For what other reason would Stuff not even have ONE article on this?

As I suggested before, give National a hand by OIA requests for emails or texts between media reporters and Cindy, Robertson, Cullan and Mallard.

        Lots of Greeks in Turkey were sent to Greece, and lots of Turks in Greece were sent to Turkey, soon after the First World War.
        
        Swap a house for a house!

Despite the Peters-appointed puppet government making huge fuck ups on a weekly basis, the media in NZ are largely failing to hold Ardern and her cronies to account and something needs to be done, especially as National seems to lack anyone with genuine clarity of communication and media appeal.

I suggest therefore that a high profile spoof billboard campaign be embarked on using the key word ‘Absoludely’ in parody of Adern’s speaking style. Here are some examples:

NZ doesn’t need an oil & gas industry. Absoludely.

Convicted drug dealers are a great benefit to NZ. Absoludely.

The proper place for criminals is living next door to you, not in prisons. Absoludely.

The seas are rising and we’re all going to drown. Absoludely.

Rising petrol prices are totally the fault of the evil gas companies. Absoludely.

Plastic bags must be banned for the sake of the turtles. Absoludely.

There are 57 genders. Absoludely.

….. and so on.

I haven’t got the money to do this, unfortunately. But I’ve got a history in advertising and I know for sure that it would achieve cut-through.

Perhaps if the Nats are too gutless to do something like this, somebody else who cares about our future would take up the challenge?

It is concerning that the tax take is set to increase by 17.4billion over the next four years, or the equivalent of $10,000 per household over that time. Robertson sees no problem with increased tax, stating that businesses are busy earning profits.

  Several people in the Oz media have been after Pell for years. And I mean full on after him.
  There’s no doubt a lot of abuse occurred but unfortunately there’s also people being accused who might not have done anything.
  Last week a case was overturned in the Newcastle District Court. Judge Roy Ellis overturned Magistrate Stone’s earlier decision.
  Fr Philip Wilson, the former Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide, was found guilty by Magistrate Robert Stone in Newcastle Local Court on 3 July 2018 of failing to report a child sex abuse allegation. The prosecution maintained that Fr Wilson had been told that a Catholic priest was a child sex abuser in the mid-1970s and that he had failed to report this matter to NSW Police between April 2004 and January 2006 – as required by Section 316A of the NSW Crimes Act.
  Judge Ellis found that Fr Wilson should not have been convicted beyond reasonable doubt. Judge Ellis, while believing that the complainant in this case was an honest witness, said that he was not satisfied with the accuracy of some of the complainant’s recollections. He found that Fr Wilson was an honest and forthright witness. Judge Ellis also held that it was possible for entirely honest individuals like the complainant to have false memories.
  
  There are similar issues with Pells witnesses.
  The guilty should be punished but alarmingly I think sometimes we see the hysteria which arose in the Ellis case also surface in cases like this.

  They are mass class actions and often very speculative with a paucity of evidence. ‘Assault’ can include a whole range of things – like other children in an orphanage turning a cold shower on a fellow resident.
  
  Pell has been framed up for the sins of others at least in part because of his honesty is seeking to audit the Vatican Bank. Jews wouldn’t like it if the Vatican Bank got audited.
  
  Anyway – I will reserve judgement – if he did it, he did it, but I will reserve judgement.
  
  I want to see Royal Commissions into all the other religions. I wonder what we’d find? When I read that one of the primary findings of the Royal Commission was to place government inspectors into the confessional to prevent one on one time with Priests and supplicants I knew it was a total stitch up. That destroys the religion.
  
  I think one day someone needs to ban circumcision because it’s vicious child abuse. That would be equivalent. I think we should ban circumcision because it’s child abuse. And it most certainly is child abuse.

What is with this insertion of Te Reo into an otherwise entirely English language communication? It seems so weird and unnatural to me.

  Of course to a bi/multilinguist, it is bastardisation of language… but as most kiwis are solidly monolinguists, there have been many attempts by the Powers-that-be for us to adopt some te reo into our everyday communications.
  
  Hence the attempt by the Maori Language Commission back in the 1990s for Public Servants to start and end emails and letters with Maori greetings and sign-offs… and to incorporate common words…. whanau/kai/aotearoa/waka etc into the body of the communication.
