  I’ve been amazed at the panic caused by the arselole(s) flying these drones at Gatwick. It seems that the British have completely list their minds.
  
  Did nobody think that the obvious solution to drones is to simply shoot them down using shotguns? Obviously SAS type firearms would be out of the question on an airport runway because of the danger caused by high velocity projectiles with a long range…. but I’d say a shotgun would be perfect for the job. Exceedingly effective within a relatively short range.

    Shooting one out of the air (or bringing it down with a comms. system) doesn’t solve the problem if more drones appear in restricted air space some time later.

      Long shot…. but yes, just about possible. And anyway, I read that these things were flying at low passes over the runway too, so I’m sure a competent pest controller could have had a good shot at them.
      
      Certainly better than closing down a major airport for days. And what the fuck were the ‘armed forces’ doing all the while??? Were they perfecting their transsexual makeup techniques and looking for the right shoes for the occasion, or something?

What an unholy mess we have brewing. A prime minister has appointed a chief justice who claims she is sure Mark Lundy is guilty, yet the prime minister would have lunch with Steve Braunias while the appeal is in full flight, and he wrote

and

“But there were times during that week in the Appeal Court when they really got stuck into Crown Prosecutor Philip Morgan, had him squirming, and raised serious questions.”

Indeed, no one who I know of who attended the proceedings believes the chief justice appointee believes for a heartbeat Lundy did the crime, the questions were scathing, the ripostes lethal.

“Philip Morgan: Amber must have eaten more food later at night (to have a full stomach at his desired 3 am time of death)

Winkelmann j: But you are arguing backwards.”

Yes indeed, all the arguments are backward and utterly false, and to be spotted by the meanest intelligence, yet these 3 judges are on 12k a week each for their brains.

A more complete transcript

“Asher: Yes this topic is one we need elucidation from you so we have the dna lifted in what has been described as quite considerable quantities . We also know the defence argument is that it is not unusual in husband wife situation. .And it seems it is not suggested that the scientific evidence shows the dna comes directly from the tissue that has been identified as CNS tissue. MGN Thats the science, the science does not establish that a CNS cell was a cell from Christine Lundy by means of dna analysis, that is accepted. The question of course is how do you get on this tiny little bit of fabric CNS tissue that has been smeared into the fabric? Its the only tissue that the neuropathologists can see, it must have been applied when it was fresh, because its such a small quantity it crumbles and you can’t smear it in, and then the little piece of material, in fact its two pieces of material which sort of adds to the weight, one above the bicep and one on the front of the shirt are eluted into a beaker soak, and this according to ESR removes about 20% of the biological material in the stain, and the only dna is Christine Lundy, and this is the inference, this is an inference case. There is a passage in KOS where he makes the very point Asher has just made, the science can’t do this, its a matter of inference.

WMN Can I ask 2 questions did the elution for each spot produce dna…yes… and was the dab slide or paraffin block taken from the shirt tested for dna? Were the remnants tested for dna?

MGN It didn’t work. There were a number of methodologies looked at but we only used those relevant to the case.

WMN. Did they produce any dna readings from those samples?

MGN From the tissue in the fabric blocks themselves answer no.

WMN And the tissue on the dab slides?

MGN The tissue on the dab slides was too degraded to do anything with at all.”

So on dna but the tissue is pure CNS, so pure that it can only be brain, and CNS is the richest source of mammalian dna? All the dna was removed by rinsing in water?? And the claim it is CNS is supported by no forensic science, just a disease diagnostic process that has never been used again.

No, this is a blatant hoax, and goes to a supreme court bench of 5 where two have already dismissed appeals against Mark Edward Lundy, Susan Glazebrooke and Helen Winkelmann. And the privy council that independently remedied Teina Pora and David Bain has been despatched by a proud self contained country.

Why the hell does Ardern think Braunias writes countless articles on the case if Lundy guilt is a thing? Braunias writes

“I don’t believe he did it”. He should know because he is one of a handful of New Zealanders to have studied the evidence in fine detail and had access to the doctored police notebooks.

How could Ardern put a chief justice in such a wickedly compromised position? This is a pending disaster that Wellington and the whole community observe with a catatonic gaze.

Happy Christmas everyone, Mark was nicked at 41 and turned 60 in captivity on december the 4th. You should hang your heads in collective shame.

  I do not pretend to have even an opinion on the Lundy case. But am of the opinion that one of the few benefits of having the Queen as head of state was the ability to appeal to the Privy Council. We must accept that NZ has a total population equal to a medium sized city, in global terms. Our talent pool is thus rather limited. In every regard. We are attempting to operate a nation’s governance infrastructure with a resource equal to a city of the size of Johannesburg. Our judicial capacity is constrained by this as much as anything other area needing intellectual horsepower. And our judiciary runs in the same small social circles as the politicians and bureaucrats that they are called upon to adjudicate. Not a great situation that had, before Auntie UN killed it, something of a safety net that gave access to a far more sophisticated group of judges.

    You need not have an opinion on the Lundy case to read the judgement by Mark Cooper, and see that it is a litany of factual and legal errors from start to finish. It is an absolute disgrace, and as I point out, for the next step Lundy is faced down by a chief justice and another judge who have already deemed him guilty beyond doubt. From a pool of 5, two have predetermined his fate.
    Or they can say they were wrong, which people do all the time, not.

      I have been told this before by the Tauranga Real Estate offices. Teachers have for years bought rentals rightly to support their pensions. They have the time to do them up in the rental market. So they will not be happy with the CGT as they have made sensible retirement provisions.

Amongst the annual political reviews there are two shiboleths that leave me as bewildered as a New Zealand First voter
1) Ardern has been an international star.
How ? When ? Every leader going to a UN talkfest is taken on a round of late night talk shows, for the benefit of their country’s media. Exactly how and where has Ardern achieved anything on the international stage ? Reading a speech to an empty UN auditorium ? Visiting Nauru and finding no one else there ? Sitting next to Mrs Pence ?
Seems to me Ardern and Peters have achieved the remarkable feat of pissing off both the US and China.

Agreed JLR caused damage, but how would this have played out if Bridges had ignored the leak ? JLR would have continued to gather recordings etc, leading to even greater damage. Seems to me Bridges did his Party a huge favour by standing firm.
I’d like to know exactly how the various political experts would have handled it differently and not allowed the JLR time bomb to build.

    She is quite adept at turning questions into opportunities to grandstand, and she is allowed to get away with not answering the questions put to her.

      There is more than the plain answer. It is how the answer is evaded, the look on the Minister’s face etc that counts. Even if a question misfires and the Minister delivers a put-down or grandstands, it yields valuable clues.
      Jacinda can be forgiven for ‘grandstanding’ at question time, John Key was adept at that sort of thing, at least until the Speaker stopped him.

        Right KevOB as is the constant turning to their right to signal time to laugh like a cue card in a game show. It also makes them look like still being in the opposition benches and mode. The other notable thing is how they have developed the art of cover up as well as the telltale indicator of “seeking advice” as the first line of building that cover up. Hard as it is to listen to the SLG she often tells more than intended or lets a gem slip out. Or by the selected defense being held on hard to often like a life-support loosing it’s buoyancy. like the “text came AFTER the decision.”
        Of bigger concern is acknowledgement of how out of the loop she is when she confesses to only learning about so many in the media. We can only speculate that so much time is wasted creating all her excuses, defending dud decisions and creating word walls leaving little time to do what she should be doing. Another first for the SLG being the first PM to follow rather than lead her Government only keeping up through the Media party. That same group who also boost her confidence by all the glowing praise they heap on them. Even poor old John Armstrong has got back into line as he even thinks even Jones shone with this : “Shane Jones. Like him or loath him, Hew Zealand First’s self-proclaimed “retail politician” finally stepped up to the plate and delivered big time.” Failing to understand that Jones keeps floating to the top of the pond because he such a big turd.   Prince, I think the media have pulled off a trick not many actually pick up.
  Bridges first asked for an inquiry, along with Speaker Mallard, to find a leak in the system, silly as it was – since the information was released three days later.
  Mallard pulled out when he satisfied himself it was likely a National person.
  
  Bridges was then left seeking who was not just a silly leaker, but who was deemed by then to be a Member who was seriously mentally unwell, threatening to kill his or herself if identified. Bridges, morally, could not allow that to just lapse, silly as the media made him look – and still do – for continuing to try and determine just a simple leak. Bridges is to be commended for persisting. And he was right – Jami-less Ross should be slightly “embarrassed”. Medical mishap is one thing, utter self-interest is another.
  
  Jami-Lee Ross was identified, but always denied the original leaker was him.
  Two days before that leak though, the married female National MP with whom Ross had a three year affair, sent a text to Ross, and amongst other vile abuse, said he deserved to die. She is still out there, and it is not disproven that she was the original leaker, to blow Ross out of the water, as it did, not Bridges.
  For whatever reason, she is left ‘alone’ and is unlikely to even be mentioned in Mallard’s new “Who Is Bullying Who“ Inquiry into Parliament.
  
  In fact if she is not mentioned you will know Mallard’s Inquiry is not worth the paper it will waste being written on, and that the “50 prominent women” who have made a bandwagon they have jumped on out of the tragedy that is the Grace Milan murder, are really only interested in what fits their little narrative.

The final report of the TWG [Tax Working Group] is due late next month. But it’s patently obvious they want to tax your assets either when you sell them, or as those assets increase in value over time.

Either way, it will be one of the major political discussions of 2019. What is recommended by the TWG will become the basis of legislation which Labour will want to be passed into law before the 2020 election, to take effect in 2021. It could be said with some certainty that if a CGT [Capital Gain Tax] is passed into law before the next election, that election will be about CGT and not much else.

So the Capital Gains Tax, in whatever form, will be Labour Election Policy to be voted on to give it a mandate, but it will already be in law, as were the National tax cuts. which Labour had to enact law to remove as soon as they became this current Government.

So voters will need to be educated to understand that, if National intends getting rid of any new Capital Gains Tax.

What voters can take in and then decide their vote is questionable.

How many last Election voted for Winston, without understanding there is absolutely no way Winston knows what you hoped he would do with your vote. And nothing shows anywhere to even give a hint.

This is the yawning gap in MMP that you can drive any number of trucks through.

  My understanding is that the German system has regulations stating that the party that has the largest amount of votes is to be included in the government, something the NZ system deliberately avoided when it was implemented just so we get the situation we now find ourselves in, where the losers can cobble together a government.
  I`m sure someone with a better grasp on the system can explain it better than me.
  But our politicians made damn sure the salient points that make the German system work were left out of our system to suit themselves the way politicians always do.

    MMP was chosen by the people of West Germany, rather than foisted on them, when the Western Allies returned them self-government after World War 2.
    
    Germany had very similar MMP when Hitler was first elected to the Reichstag before World War 2. Germany amended the system re-introduced after the war by imposing a 5 per cent limit (which Judas Peters now wants reduced in NZ). The limit aimed to reduce the chaos of miniscule parties in the system under which Hitler rose to power.

  I agree and suggest that it is imperative for National and ACT to really bang the drum on tax reform. I think Seymour will do a sound job but National need Judith Collins to be their loud/proud/angry and determined finance/tax attack weapon. We already know that Peters no longer cares about the country and will vote which ever way he feels at any given time. Cullen needs to be regarded as an integral part of the CoL. I detest the CoL.

  The families obviously haven’t made full disclosure, because they are then faced with expulsion, and the hacks plead for sympathy for the family.
  
  This at a time, when NZ, only 48th in the world in GDP per capita, is struggling to finance its health system.
  
  It’s interesting that such a South African white family in Otago with a son who had health care needs, was forced to leave the country, while a Malaysian family with a similar problem was allowed to stay in Otago (with the notable support of the local National MP).

  For some unexplained reason, Haumaha is the only Deputy appointed by the Prime Minister’s recommendation to the Governor General.
  It is doubtful he will ever be Police Commissioner … now
  Haumaha’s duties are the same now as they were before promotion.
  
  Deputy Commissioner: District Operations, John Tims – in charge of the 12 police districts – is presumably more important than Haumaha, or deals with more that contacts the general New Zealand public.

    Came home from the shopping with my groceries in an Aldi bag.
    
    I then unpacked and counted 11 plastic bags. Four were big buggers for the salmon and were double bagged.
    
    Fruit and veges, plus the ice cream had been wrapped in paper then put in a small bag to keep it cold for the journey home.

I was a bit naughty and kept changing items from one bag to the other, much to the annoyance of other shoppers. New data reveals that women in their droves are searching for porn with tags like “extreme brutal gangbang”, “forced” and “rape”.

A quarter of straight porn searches by women are for videos featuring violence against their own sex. Five percent of searches by women are for content portraying nonconsensual sex. While men still search for significantly more porn than women, search rates for these more extreme types of sexual content are at least twice as common among women than men.

I see Whale Oil is pulling a major shill for Winston over the signing of the Compact.

Sure it is not binding, but as has been pointed out, it can be used by the courts as a device for interpreting the law (ie. gives our leftie dud judges wiggle room).

Apparently they signed because:
” 1. They see it as a “cooperation framework that was clearly set out at the start of the compact’s negotiations process in 2016 when the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants was unanimously adopted by all UN member states, including New Zealand under the previous government,
2. Because they support greater efforts in controlling migration issues.”

What bullshit. You can still participate and cooperate and control without signing anything.

No doubt USA and Australia (who did not sign) will still be participating and cooperating.

Clinging desperately to the excuse National agreed to sign along with every other member country to the process of drawing up a UN initiative. The heavy influence of bigger influences served to trash that plan which National rejected without reservation when it was released.
  This is just another glory trip for the SLG which apart from being one move too many for NZF supporters even too much for those who think the SLG is doing anything but feathering her own nest. Went to Mitre 10 yesterday. Bought about 10 items. Got to checkout. Then remembered they don’t have plastic bags. The checkout operator pointed me to a stack of dilapidated cardboard boxes. Fuck it’s like being in the third world. So I bought yet ANOTHER “reusable” bag for $2. The environmental impact of the bags I have bought in the last two months will exceed 10 lifetimes of plastic bag use.

On the way out I pondered that most items in my bag were encased in thick plastic shells. Even a fucking spanner. Hell even the yellow hi viz vest I bought was wrapped in plastic.

2018 was the year of 5 babies to 5 couples. One was to the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, so is irrelevant to this post.
However, 4 babies of note were born to NZ couples.
1. The first would have remained out of the news, had the father not become leader of the opposition in April. In this instance the parents did a few pieces in the mags, but since then the baby and other children in the family have been kept away from the media glare.

2. In January (in the middle of the political dead season), we are subjected to the “wonderous news” that she who we were told (during the election campaign) had no plans to have a baby (a lie) was indeed pregnant. Praise be, NZ was to be the first country in the world, where the sitting PM would become a mother, whoops- it was quickly pointed out we would be the second. During the following 5vmonths we suffered the Show Pony, being just that a show pony. With the aid of the Labour spin machine she was being portrayed as Superwoman, only for her to be able to say publicly she was neither Supereoman or Wonder Woman, she was just doing her job. Rxcept she has been doing her job badly.

Eventually, the baby was born, and as expected the child’s parents have not been shy to use the child for publicity purposes when the time has called for it & this will remain so while the NLB/SLG remains PM. I feel sorry for this girl that her parents are so shameless that she is used as publicity material to further their respective careers.

3. In August, Kiwi baby of note 3 was born, once again it was a political baby. Once again, there was crass political grandstanding to the extent that expectant mum and father rode bikes, and the luggage and support crew went in a car to the hospital, a spectacular media back fire for the Commie Yank. Indeed her attempts at using the baby in the media have fizzled. May be she should just accept she is just another MP with a sprig and most of us “quite frankly, don’t give a damn”.

4. Finally, a week or so ago Kiwi baby of note No. 4 was born to Richie & Gemma McCaw. Like Baby no 1 there was little fanfare (unlike babies 2 & 3) in fact I only recall once hearing Gemma McCaw was pregnant and caught news last week she had given birth to a baby girl. Indeed, during this week the media were so lacking in news, they were looking for news on the “missing baby McCaw”. All I can say is, kudos to Richie and Gemma McCaw with regards to protecting your daughter from the media, this is how it should be.

Children do not ask/volunteer to be media publicity material for their parents and nor should they be used as such. My respect to the Bridges and McCaws and I wish your respective families well.

To the other two, for what it is worth, during the summer holidays, learn & reflect on what it means to to be parents, learn how not to use your children as publicity material to further your careers. Because if your children have any IQ, they will not be grateful for how you have used them while you should have been a family together as they are growing up.

  An excellent post; thank you. Perhaps wrongly, one does get the impression that the SLG child is somewhat akin to a fashion accessory in a manner reminiscent to the ‘dogs in handbags’ craze as epitomised by a certain American hotel-chain heiress.
  
  Sadly, on that basis, it is equally possible that said small human may also suffer a somewhat similar fate, being assigned to a ‘Nanny’ (A very ‘Capitalist’ thing to do BTW, and something not unknown in Communist leadership circles), when mummy becomes tired of its novelty and the usefulness wears off.
  
  I suspect the latter stage may be approaching and as the boyfriend recommences ‘fishing’, likely to arrive sooner rather than later.
  
  The MSM will, of course say nothing, but perhaps CYFS should be watching, just in case…?

That is an excellent article by Damien Grant in today’s Stuff, concerning the Greens’ approach to climate change. He makes the point that the political Right should have been making all along, instead of making themselves look like anti-science, anti-scientist, anti-intellectual neanderthals: That climate change does indeed need to be addressed, but extreme socialism is a crap-awful way to address it. By insisting on associating the two, the Greens are doing grave damage to society, the economy and the environment itself.

And the Right has let them do it, by trying to fight the battle on the grounds of whether there is a problem at all rather than on what the solution should be. This has – counterproductively and completely unnecessarily – put the Right into the position of questioning the integrity of scientists and science itself. That doesn’t help much, does it, when confronted with anti-vaxxers, 1080 opponents and anti-plastic campaigners.

The FED and others were irresponsible and if they loose the privileged rights over money creation they can only blame themselves.

  So at the most the Government can only have planted 7,065,500 of their own seedlings in 2018.
  
  Forestry plants the rest and normally only a couple of thousand hectares more than they cut down, so while they would seem to plant about 53 million trees, they will have felled about 50m and the difference will be about 3 million.

    To achieve the 1Bn trees in the ground by 2028, the Government needs to have 100M trees planted each year. (see the side bar counter)
    
    So we are already about 40M trees behind the ball game.
    
    For the 2019 planting season, the trees should all be ordered; the planting sites should have been identified, and preparation for planting (weed clearance, weed spraying), road construction started; labour and machinery needed should have been jacked up by now.
    
    And as far as I can see for the East-Coast, the piggy-wiggies are still flying free.

      If forestry have planted their usual number of trees, it is about 50m.
      They plant about 50m and fell about 48m.
      
      The rest are Shane’s – only about 7 million at the most
      So he is around 93m short of the side-bar goal of 100m.
      
      Note too: that following best forestry practice, after planting there is usually a pruning at 4 years and another at seven years, leaving (with pines) about 30% of the original number planted. So to count 1 billion trees at the end, Shane should need to plant 3 billion to start with, but I don’t think anyone has told him that yet, and he sure as Hell certainly won’t want to hear about it anycase.

    Perhaps Sofia the generous financial support for NZ First for the last election was more to gain more land for planting that they are struggling to find? As well as selling them the idea that they increase planting on native land as a major way to create jobs. Unfortunately the native land regained through settlements has been allowed to return to it’s old state of neglect. Plus there seems to be problems in finding any workers even in the far north region that so often tops the unemployment stats.
    Jones was struggling to questions about where all the jobs claimed to have been created were and even more so with how many had been filled. He made much of 7000 quoted before had been pushed up to 9000 but sheepish about how many had been filled. Even his own people see him as just a big fat windbag struggling to know which orifice is emitting all his noise. While on the employment front it seems they will need another inquiry group to “Find Willie” who might be already struggling with another inquiry.

This time about the lack of news coverage of New Zealand’s GCSB comment on the just revealed scandal of China’s massive international plunder of intellectual property.

The Chinese been stealing stuff left and right, using hackers to break into company and public computer systems around the world.

National will have to do something quickly about Beijing’s infiltration of the Auckland branches of the National Party, and about National’s list MP who once was an employee of the Chinese intelligence system.

Otherwise, Auckland-National’s China ties will blow up in National’s face just when Labour is about to go under at the next general election.

      My father was hospitalised earlier this year after having a heart attack. Like you, he had nothing bad to say about the medical care he received. And, like you I suspect, the pathway to recovery seems long, but one step at a time will get you there. I hope you take the time out over the festive season to take stock – we need you back here next year to keep us honest!

        Yes, a few lifestyle changes now required – key amongst them will be to stop pushing myself so hard.
        
        It’s come at a good time (!) in that I’ve just completed a tough six month contract in late Nov so I’m not letting any clients down by taking an extra few weeks off to recuperate. I’ll sit out Jan and see how things are then.
        
        I must say I’m looking forward to the next few weeks doing a few low key things with the kids – in addition to building up my fitness levels in the garden and up and down beaches etc.

No worries on Kimbo. Met up with him for a beer or three a few weeks ago and he’s in good shape. Still many tests to conduct but it looks good and he looked healthy. … [H]e asked me to drop a line to KB to say that he’s okay. But commentating is taking a backseat to his work for a while.
