Tranquil in GD yesterday pointed out that
“CAIR is proud to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure American Muslims are fairly and accurately counted in the 2020 Census,” Executive Director Nihad Awad said in a CAIR news release.

Today, courtesy of Fox highlighting that item:
“The Commerce Department on Thursday TERMINATED its just-announced planned partnership with the nation’s largest Muslim advocacy group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, after Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” asked about the arrangement — given CAIR’s reported ties to the terrorist group Hamas, and its repeated attacks on the president.

“Based on further review, the Census Bureau is no longer partnering with CAIR,” the Commerce Department said in a statement to “Tucker.””

    Astronomically, Spring starts 6 weeks before the equinox. However, climatically, because of about a 3 month lag, we feel the start of Spring later. One way to calculate it is to look at the beginning of the sea ice melt around Antarctica. On the equinox, the sun is directly over the equator and all places around the world receive the exact same amount of insolation and the days hours are exactly equal for corresponding latitudes. In Auckland today, it definitly feels like Spring!

    frequently when reading the General Debate comments, I wish we could all put up a UNITED front, in our expression of strong rejection of the CoL’s shallow and idiotic socialistic plans.
    The fact that the 7+billion of us on Earth all have
    different influences, backgrounds, experiences etc etc, there are no two people of us [never have been and there never can be with exactly identical backgrounds, beliefs, opinions and concerns.]
    There has to be some compromising by all of us for any majority opposing position to be reached. This must mean compromising of some of our own personal beliefs, for the overall common good.
    Compromise is required by us ALL to provide a force to highlight some BASIC beliefs.
    Compromise would be needed to agree to which ones can be considered the truly significant beliefs which we could all consider of major concern to unify behind.
    When I read GD daily, I perceive that some sensible compromises must be made by us all, so a formidable and forceful UNITED opposition to all the daily CoL garbage we are fed through news media, TV and online which does not receive the derision and opposition it deserves.
    I perceive you guys have the potential to be a strong, effective, and UNITED opposition to this Govt and together, we could make an enjoyable but fruitful boost to their demise.

    According to a friend of mine (who works at an Auckland hospital), idiocy/ignorance is also a big factor.
    
    I am told that today, a woman brought in a infant (younger than 12 months, ie not old enough to have had the first MMR vaccine) to visit a relative in the hospital (twice!), despite being told by staff that they should not be at the hospital due to the measles risk.
    And this is not an isolated occurance – other parents have been doing the same…

  Her main argument re Christine Blasey Ford’s accusation against Brett Kavanaugh, is that instead of facts and innocent until proved guilty, we should have a public poll of people who have not heard all the evidence, who vote on internal prejudices. The Quinnipiac poll where she got figures from actually confirms my point, rather than hers.
  
  White women who cared about black children (“stolen generations”) were doing it to enhance their (white women’s) position in society. ???
  
  Her writings are an attack on, as she puts it ” the violence of white civilisation” (code for Judeo-Christian)…to be replaced by what?

  My family and connections had “white” women in NZ from 1852. The more I research family history the more I appreciate our pioneer women. For many severe hardship, by our standards, was the norm. They persevered.
  
  One notable gt. grandmother had 3 sisters and between those 4 ladies they gave birth to 55 children. Those children appear to all have survived and helped provide marriage partners in early Timaru.
  I have many stories of extraordinary women. One had 5 children while her husband maintained the water races used at Gabriels Gully. Another shows a mother with her 10th children in inland Mangaweka,where they cut down forest to make a farm. She had been widowed with 8 children, had set up a boarding house for miners at inland Picton, been flooded out, re-married and re-started life again inland North Island. Women with that fortitude deserve all our respect. They did what they had to for their families survive in their time.
  We cannot re-make the past only celebrate our inheritance.
  I have been married now to the two women in my life for over 59 years and regret none of it.Thanks for their pasts.

For some time, in New Zealand media, local Muslims seem disconcerted regarding their participation in the Royal Commission.
Now, internationally, Muslims in New Zealand Say They Have Been Sidelined in Christchurch Inquiry [1]

Just how exactly was the Muslim community briefed on the purpose of the Commission and their participation in it? And why is New Zealand being trashed internationally?
Does the fact that the New York Times is now the platform for such criticism, indicate Jacinda Ardern and her Winston-selected Government need to devote a little more time to this issue.
Perhaps just communicate the purpose of the Commission a little better?

Or does the Muslim community think Jacinda is more interested in the United Nations than her claims that New Zealand here is a nation united? But we are not really “one”.

As a Commenter to the NY Times article, Ayla (NZ), remarks –
NZ Muslims rightly feel that they are central to this inquiry, however it is about what lead to the event – not what happened during or after. Their grievance about the NZ security services looking at members of their community too suspiciously and the white supremacists not seriously enough (in spite of their generalised warnings) is of course entirely valid.

This is about government organisations, security procedures, information sharing, terrorism studies, gun control etc – the technical and political stuff which is not my field nor that of many of the Muslim representative group I am assuming.

Without appropriate action, “We are one” and “We are here” are just bloody bumper stickers.

Harsh? Maybe, but read some of the other bumper sticker slogans –

• ‘Let’s Do This‘ – Jacinda Ardern reveals Labour’s new slogan
• “Me Too must become We Too” – Jacinda Ardern’s address, United Nations General Assembly
• “New Zealand mourns with you. We are one,” she said in a short speech, followed by two minutes of silence. [as above]
• Christchurch terror attack: ‘We are here‘ – Ardern speaks to Muslim community
• “On issues like Ihumātao, the difficult issues, the hard issues, we will be there, we are there in those conversations,” Ardern said.
• “I will be there and we can have this conversation, that would be great. So let’s be practical and start politics bootcamp.” – Ardern promises to help workshop aspiring Muslim leaders in politics.

The slogans start to sort of stick out after a while …

  Two: Once set up, commission is independent of government.
  Three: Muslims are NOT central to enquiry. The State sector agencies are. Commission expected to talk to community but only put in as would be seen as insensitive if not. Not a term of reference, but a side note.
  Four: This story was run in NZ a while ago. Obviously got no traction, so went to overseas media.
  Five: Commission is NOT there as part of justice system, grieving process, or cover-up. Read what commissions are about in general.
  Six: The commission is about suggesting policies and solutions that protect all of us, from whatever threat, not just Eco-fascists.
  Seven: I am not an apologist for Government, and points you make about Ardern in general, I agree with.
  Eight: If there were genuine concerns then I am sure some political party or MP would have been raising them. Somebody in the story wants a job at UN I suspect and trying to raise profile, especially internationally (in my opinion).

  I see that Charlotte Graham-McLay is a presenter for Radio New Zealand, as well as writing for the New York Times, the Guardian, the BBC etc.
  
  Graham-McLay has a master’s degree in journalism from Massey University, and the Radio NZ site says of her:
  
  She has taught journalism and public relations, and worked in the youth and social enterprise sectors. Charlotte has an ATCL in speech and drama, and sometimes teaches ballet.
  
  On the Christchurch Library site in a an article about a book festival, this is a quote from Graham McLay:

Overseas journalists and environmentalists can read the Christchurch shooter’s manifesto.
I can’t (at the moment).

From what I have been reading in overseas articles, there is a lot of “Deep Ecology” in Tarrant’s manifesto.

I suspect the Greens would be shocked to discover how much of Tarrant’s thinking seems to be driven by Environmental concern for our Planet.

  I read it and he’s not a white supremist, christian or even all quite there.
  He alludes strongly to being an eco greenie action man.
  The main thrust was what the invader culture of Islam was doing to people and their culture in Europe and their threat to the world.
  
  I did think that a couple of places it was cut and paste which could mean that more than one person had a hand in it.
  
  The only reason I could see to ban it was for those who can’t discern or are dumb and might take bits out of it to justify their own views.
  That’s nonsensical as they get access to stuff they can do that to anyway.
  
  Mainly it was (my take) to protect the Muslim community and encouragement of actions against them for what their ummah do elsewhere in the world.

      It’s an aspect of diversity that is often missed by commentators; there isn’t a clear division between right and left any more. As a country has multiple cultures and identities, so it has multiple political aspects. Trying to define people as right or left is about as sensible as labelling them black or white. You have to protect yourself against the individual, not the stereotype. That’s not easy.

    The objectionable material was about threatening specific people, including babies, with death. (Less to do with his views in general). I agree that those passages should be restricted – they are vile and dehumanising, and not in a “PC” use of “dehumanising”. You are legally able to look at those passages on the Classification Office’s website, ironically.
    
    Due to legislation, you cannot exhibit only part of publication (ie with objectionable bits removed).
    That is a shame in this case, as a redacted version would show what a deluded person he is, and perhaps help with grieving process for both victim communities (of which Muslims are just one) and nation.

  And that is why the manifesto has been banned: its content directly conflicts with the official narrative as to Tarrant’s motivations and ideology. Depending on how one reads it, all sorts of divergent political stances could be ascribed to Tarrant.       The quoted passage is clearly advanced as a pretext, so I disagree entirely that it in any way attenuates my point. The explicit and purported reasons for banning it are less relevant and illuminating than independently assessing the facts of the matter and then reaching one’s own conclusions.
      
      I’ll decide what I will or will not read, or if it ‘promotes and encourages acts of terrorism’. And, to do so, I must necessarily be in a position to have read it. We can infer a great deal more from the fact the manifesto is proscribed, than we can from accepting any justifying reasons given for that ban (actions speak louder than words etc.)

  Maggy, I had a little play with Google and Bing, I searched David Tarrant Manifesto.
  On Google Australia, I got 142,000 results.
  On Bing, just 12,600 results.
  Same result safe mode or no safe mode.
  I then moved to France, Jacinda’s best mate.
  I thought surely he has censored it after all the talkfests and posturing.
  I translated to French, which only requires an “E” instead of an “O” on Manifesto.
  Google came up at 935,000 results
  Bing an incredible 5.3 Million results
  So I guess one can deduct from this, the rest of the world don’t see this manifesto as a threat, not even to children on Safe Mode.

    So real figures are for Tarrant Manifesto/Manifeste.
    Bing australia 36,600 results in all modes of search.
    Google australia 289,000 and 281,000 in safe mode
    Google France 353,000 in all modes.
    Bing France 11,400, 11,500 in safe mode
    If I set my vpn on NZ and go into bing nz, I can get
    an impressive 352,000 results with Tarrant manifeste, french spelling.
    add “brenton” I get just 84,000.
    What this all means is, anyone can access this manifesto even though it is illegal, just changing the manifesto to french manifeste produces another 270,000 results.
    It is extremely hard to ban something on the net,
    you would have to cover every language, it amazes me even in New Zealand it is all available in safe mode.
    The French certainly haven’t banned it.

Can someone please explain to me the lack of logic in Stuff’s latest hit piece on Agriculture this morning?

It starts off with the oxymoronic statement that Climate Change is the nuclear free movement of this generation; the irony being regardless of your position on climate change, if it is the problem we are told it is, weapons aside, nuclear free is demonstrably counter productive to any climate change resolution and the movement has set us back 35 years in nuclear energy development.

Then the farming bashing starts. The reason farmers don’t like the zero carbon bill is not because they want to kill everyone, it’s because it’s a garbage piece of legislation, it just so happens the garbage bits mostly affect them. This continual paranoia about animal CO2 and Methane emissions is completely illogical even by climate science standards. The simple fact is all animals are carbon neutral, period. All the CO2 emitted by any animal is equal to the amount absorbed from the atmosphere by the food they have eaten. All the methane that comes from the ruminants lasts is not accumulative, it lasts 5-12 years in the atmosphere depending on your source before being oxidised to carbon dioxide and water, where, you guessed it, it will be absorbed by food growth. They are biofuel powered.

Admittedly Nitrous Oxide emissions are more of a problem according to climate science, but we never hear about that for a start, it’s largely a fertiliser application problem, and nitrous oxide levels have increased a crazy 15% since 1750, equivalent to about 14ppm CO2 increase.

And finally the reason people don’t like the zero carbon bill is because it legislates freaking out over the carbon neutral emissions from animals, and legislates against receiving carbon credits from most feed grown, most native plantations (which, despite the media’s panic there are a lot of on farms), and many exotic species that aren’t in plantations. It gives no credence to the fact that methane cannot accumulate, and cannot account for any carbon sequestration in soil vía regenerative farming. That’s why people don’t like it.

And don’t get me started on the completely overblown water quality histeria. Apparently everyone in Stuff comments is an Agriscience expert, believes no one is doing anything about it, and that somehow ECan is under the thumb of farmers despite also setting out a never ending series of hoops for farms to jump through. It’s no wonder we have rural mental health issues.

    The science behind CO2 and the warming is very controversial. I have engaged with some on this blog as they earnestly believe I am misguided in my understanding of how the atmosphere is warmed and how radiation is transferred. What I can say for certain is that is much more complicated than just “more CO2 equals warming” as according to the Gospel of Gore etal.     and looking at 10 years of comments on the skepitalscience.com website on the CO2 saturation entry shows that top scientists who have a much better grasp than I do do not agree on this vital issue. But that is good science, as slowly through these debates a better understanding will emerge. However, the alarmist circle jerk at Stuff have no clue , nor do most politicians around the world.

NIWA has never had any mandate to be the nation’s weather forecaster… That is MetService’s role.

NIWA can’t explain how it got to undertake this work.. but I would suggest their sacked ex senior scientist Dr Jim Salinger would have a good idea how he crossed into duplicating Met. Service operations.

The money wasted on duplication of research, scientists, equipment is a disgrace.

The problem is that successive ministers in New Zealand have not had the fortitude to stand up to Niwa.

Let’s hope Megan Woods closes down this money-gobbling trough.

So the iwi have an unconditional sale of property find out its to Headhunters, then conspire with Council and Councils buys it and then on sells it.

Article goes on about the Council denying liability (I kind of agree) but the iwi is in the gun totally for damages.

You cant just change your mind on an unconditional sale. How do you quantify damages? how much will it cost to put Headhunters back into a similar property? LOTS I would think.

With Fonterra announcing big write-downs on its asset values in China, Brazil, Venezuela and New Zealand, is it a fair question to ask what other assets elsewhere in the world might also need to be written down? Have we heard all the bad news?

The two biggest questions relate to Australia and Chile. These are Fonterra’s biggest overseas milk pools, which no longer fit clearly within the new emerging Fonterra strategy.

I recently wrote about concerns for Australia, where Fonterra has announced plans to write down assets by $70 million. In that article I expressed concern that much bigger write-downs might be needed.

Since then, my Australian network confirms that, particularly in Northern Victoria, Fonterra is indeed in big trouble, and heading towards more stranded assets. The problems are growing by the month.
