  I fear many of us will scarcely recognize the social fabric of our country within 3 years time when we have taxpayer-funded agencies such as this promoting such separtism. Meanwhile the Ministry of Education stamps itself as the Ministry of Propaganda with its demands that all teachers begin instructing their pupils in Maori, promotes Critical Race Theory which sees all non-whites as victims of colonialism and whites as oppressors, and tells children in primary school that they can choose their gender.

    What Maori are children being instructed in?
    Te Reo is practically useless unless life is in a Pa or involves kumara planting.
    Te Reo also uses pronouns so different to English that a great deal of re-learning would be required. Very confusing.

It is astounding what progress has been made in medicine in the last 200 years and how those advances have been spread through the world.

I’ve been reading a bit about Henry Thoreau. He and his three siblings, did not make it past their 40s. Three died of TB and one of tetanus due to a shaving cut.

Imagine that, nick yourself shaving and you’re dead.

Even just 60 years ago both my grandfathers died of post-op infections.

Now pretty much everyone in the world can access better medical care than my grandparents could.

Thank you colonialists and western culture.

  Yet even having all this knowledge and technology to relay it to people,they still die in high numbers from diabetes. Some people contract rhumatic fever living in crowded houses. They don’t seem to be able to control their fertility and pop out many kids they cannot afford. They take home cooked drugs despite being told these drugs are dangerous.

  I went to some old cathedrals in the UK a few years ago and there are graves for bishops who died about five hundred years ago aged eighty or ninety.
  How could they live so long back then when medicine was pretty much non existent?

  My grandmother died of a post-op infection 65 years ago (in UK). They left a clamp inside her and the theatre sister thought she had mis-counted the instruments and said nothing. If she had spoken out a quick X-Ray (that was another mature technology) would have confirmed that. She got worse and died with the doctors blaming the nurses for inadequate care and vice versa. That was completely avoidable, even 65 years ago.

  Cancer is now the last frontier of sorts. If you get lung cancer or pancreatic cancer for example, your survivability is little improved compared to 50 years ago. Hopefully that will change in coming decades.

    I was thinking about when the woke rot set in with the AB’s. Once an ardent rugby fan, they lost me in 2004 when the Captain stayed home to see the birth of his 3rd child. There aren’t many reasons to miss the birth of a child but leading the AB’s in South Africa was one of them. Add to that, hair ribbons, eye make-up and infantile gestures after try-scoring and I don’t miss it at all. The football-type histrionics to milk a penalty leaves me bereft of any respect.       Is that the best you can do, call the ABs names from behind a computer? Go do some gardening.
      I thought the Argies played exceptionally well, was disappointed the AB’s didn’t manage to widen the game, and that it looked liked they never changed their game plan.
      We tried (and tried) winning the aerial game using Geordie Barrett but it ultimately didn’t work. I would have liked to have seen more backs in close trying to run off the ruck and someone like Reece having a go on the flanks with Ioane and Clarke.
      But we got out-toughed on the night, silly slaps and all.

      First up they have to call to say goodnight to their kids. Then they get berated by their wives, who demand to know why they’re not there having to put up with screaming kids.
      
      Then there’s the daily prayer and give thanks to …
      
      Then an organic vegan coconut water smoothie made with carbon credits.

I remember when

Is the constant reference to racial and low skill job loss hiding the facts about our present position.
Why do we have to wait until the ‘easy’ stories have been exhausted to get some in-depth reporting.
When are the media going to start reporting the meaningful impacts and forget some of the ‘human interest’ filler.
Read quite an interesting article, in the housing section, at the weekend which largely disputed the returning New Zealander impact stories. Full of the sort of research of numbers available to every reporter.

  Well as may carry on,
  The fiasco with the Ukranian Fisherman ( Not Russian) for Sealords and Independant fisheries has really thrown a curve ball at the likes of myself who work overseas in the Merchant Navy.
  Few things to take note off.
  1. Absolutely zero reliance on PCR tests pre arrival.
  2. The crews agent should be hang , drawn and quartererd. At least in the Media if not legally.
  ( You need an OKTB) Ok to board and a Letter of guarantee from them to bring into NZ, Basically means you are liable for any costs they incur, etc.
  3. No or little media releases from MNZ ( No real surprises there)
  
  This has put all NZ international Seafarers in the same basket which is not the case. Remember we keep the supply chains running, Fisherman dont or in this case they dont.
  The vessel Im joining will have to divert to Singapore for me to join which requires me to do a Pre Departure PCR test and one upon arrival, Once negative then join ship, ie 36hrs in isolated quaratine.
  Cant see any progress for Key Workers in MIQ procedures upon completion of Tour (normally 2 months, but realistically 4-6 months now).

    Sea freight from Shanghai, slightly effected (a week or 2) due to a lower volume world wide meaning NZ’s size the importance of freight here is disproportionately impacted.
    Air freight is now coming via Singapore instead of Hong Kong (probably due to the political troubles),
    now taking closer to 5-7weeks instead of 4-5weeks.
    BUT still largely due to delays in Auckland (1-2 weeks)

“Laying bare the misconceptions around the threat from the pandemic, the Savanta ComRes survey, for Conservative Woman, reveals that the majority of people – 52% – believe “long” Covid affects one in three when in fact it is around one in 20.

The median age at which people think coronavirus victims have died is just 65 when the real average is 82.4 years. Average life expectancy is 81.1 years, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The poll found that 41% think the virus has been the single biggest cause of UK deaths in 2020, when ONS data shows that, for September, it was the 19th cause in England and the 24th in Wales.

The survey also revealed attitudes around vaccines and lockdowns, and some of the worrying collateral impact on healthcare and mental well-being.

Only around six in 10 people (59%) say they will accept a Covid vaccine, leaving more than 21 million Britons who would not (17%) or are neutral/don’t know (24%).

Six in 10 – 61% – agree that the UK will need repeated lockdowns until a vaccine is widely available, even though half of adults do not wish to see England’s second national lockdown extended beyond December 2nd.

42% say coronavirus pressures on the NHS have stopped them accessing non-Covid healthcare, equating to 22 million adults. 40% say their mental health has suffered as a result of the restrictions.”

It would be interesting to find out if new Zealanders labour under similar misconceptions, and have the same attitude to vaccination.

As soon as I saw them run out wearing the pink boots, silly haircuts, and they even had that same little guy in the team that cried in public when he was outed for having sex with a disabled woman in a toilet at the Christchurch Airport, I said to my partner, “we’re stuffed”

  The failing of the All Blacks IMO.
  Started when they turned it into a “brand” hogged all the best players into the “company” system and started controlling where and when they played (provincial) rugby.
  Provincial rugby and therefore the “dream” path for kids, was damaged because they NEVER (or almost never) get to see their heros play.
  The crowds diminish and the downward spiral starts.

A very successful rugby coach I knew used to say that once rugby players started caring more about their hair and appearance their game went to the dogs. Yep, that’s the all blacks. These guys are paid a lot of money and treated like lords. It’s about time they had a code…tidy haircuts, black boots and minimal, if any tats, then they might start to concentrate on their game.
