Imagine if a Minister in a National/Act government had made this flippant comment:

A grieving mother has been shocked by an off-the-cuff comment made by the Minister in charge of Courts.

When Aupito William Sio faced questions recently over increasing coronial inquest wait times, he made a joke that went down like a lead balloon with families waiting to learn vital information about an unexpected death.

Minister Sio appeared to jovially quip changes “could take three years, could take 18 years”.

His remarks have caused distress for families like Corinda Taylor, who’s facing heartache and frustration while desperately waiting for coronial inquests to be completed.

Corinda’s 20-year-old son Ross died by suicide in 2013.

“It is sleepless nights, it is nightmares, it is waking up in the morning not wanting to get out of bed, it is traumatic,” she told Newshub. “I’m exhausted, I’m tired of waiting, no one deserves to wait this long.”

And she’s not alone. Waiting times for the Coroner’s Court have significantly increased in the past year to 484 days on average. Currently, there are 5439 active cases.

This is disgraceful. As if losing a family member to suicide or some other sudden, unexpected cause of death wasn’t bad enough, waiting for months for an inquest to be completed must be gut-wrenching.

But worse for Aupito William Sio is what seems to be a threat to a news organistion; read on:

“Can you please explain to the committee, beyond the ‘discussing’ and the ‘exploring’ and these kinds of words that get used in written answers… what is actually taking place or what has taken place, more to the point, actually to reduce some of the backlog, for example, in the Coroner’s Court that you’ve acknowledged?” Penk asked.

Sio went on to say the Coroner’s Court is “quite challenging” and explained Labour allocated money in its first Wellbeing Budget which allowed for the introduction of temporary coroners, however some were promoted and others retired.

“We’re now exploring legislative changes that could take place, and I’m pretty confident that we’re in a really good space to be able to embark on that particular work,” Sio continued.

He acknowledged there are still challenges “that remain unsettled” but felt confident it was “heading in the right direction”.

Penk then rebuffed: “Frankly though Minister, you’re not”, before delivering relevant statistics – including the wait times now averaging 484 days as compared with 303.

“What else have you got?” Penk asked.

“In the overall scheme of things, the system is heading in the right direction… I’m not trying to take away from the fact in the Coroner’s space – I receive plenty of emails and I note the conversations that are happening in the public arena – and my acknowledgement of how difficult and challenging that is, but I want to assure this committee, yes we have started the work, to make some changes,” Sio said.

“We met up with some challenges, now we are looking at other opportunities, it’s a challenge that I’m up to… time will tell.”

Penk replied: “When you say ‘time will tell’ Minister, what does that mean?”

That’s when Sio retorted: “Maybe three years, maybe 18 years.”

Newshub approached Sio about his joke.

“You’re misinterpreting that, I spent that time teasing my colleagues who themselves were responsible at one point in time when they were in Government and now are raising these issues when they didn’t do anything about it,” he said.

When asked if the select committee meeting was the right time to jest, he said: “No it’s not and don’t try and make something out of this.”

Just what does Mr Sio mean by “don’t try and make something out of this”? Is he suggesting that Newshub shouldn’t be questioning him about an ill-timed attempt at humour? Does he not believe that a man of his status should be held to account for his words?

As I said earlier, just imagine if a National or Act Minister acted in this way. Sio’s words have been described on social media as “heartless” and “appalling”, and he should apologise for them.

  This is another example of a government minister failing to answer important questions but instead issuing a word soup that meant absolutely nothing – and then being so chuffed with his reply he felt comfortable making a joke.

    They know their leader and the party machine will protect them no matter what.

    And the “nasty” was lurking just below the surface, breaching (or should that have properly been broaching) with the implied threat.
    “Do you want to make something of it?” Is cheap punk bravado talk designed to appear aggressive and superior and used when the bully is unsure of their own strength or ability but is doubling down in an attempt to make the victim back away.
    That should have been a signal to Penk that Sio was uncertain and vulnerable and that his jugular was exposed.

  Su’a William Sio let the veil slip, and displayed all of his misogynist and racist ugliness is one weak pathetic attempt to crack a joke. Sio comes from the background of a patriarchal Samoan matai/chieftainship, served as a bishop in the Mormon church, and is a senior member (6 terms) of NZ Labour Party – maybe that sort of sexist arrogance is acceptable there (?) but not in a NZ Parliamentary Select Committee. Too long at the trough has left Sio ignorant of the hardships of the plebs struggling to survive under his ineptitude and that of his Labour Party’s government. Pull your head in and pull your socks up Sio, or get out of the way and let a smarter more sensitive MP do the job properly.

This is a great example of our kind and caring Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on the children of New Zealand.
And this after the lies and deceit she committed with her slogan on the previous Government National and still continues to do at every opportunity she gets, nine years of neglect and underfunding is her catchphrase in one breath and in another she gives Starship Hospital $10 million in funding for a $ 25 million upgrade and leaves
them to fundraise for the rest.
Hear is a quote from a nurse that says many unhappy staff are leaving their jobs in droves at Starship Hospital.
“My unit is trying to get funding for a upgrade that will cost $25 million the Government gave us $10 million the rest is being fund raised for”.
These are the most unwell children in New Zealand and we have to fund raise to accommodate them while cyclists get handed sum of $700 million.
It makes me and everyone In my unit angry with the Government that they dont have the children of New Zealand as a priority.

  Starship is one hospital that really should be kept in top form. They take patients from everywhere and generally the most critical. Last night on Flightradar I saw there was a Starship plane flying from Timaru to AKL. Clearly more than they wanted to treat in Chch.

    Starship claimed, and was given, status as the main centre in NZ for treatment of sick children back in the ’90’s.
    At that time I worked in the ICU at Wellington Public Hospital, and we routinely looked after local children with all sorts of serious ACUTE conditions. Starship was the place for rare and challenging conditions.
    But quite suddenly, we were sending our children to Starship, with acute conditions that we could easily treat – partly, we heard, because the government decreed that Starship needed to keep all its beds full in order to keep its funding as a Centre of Excellence.
    One ridiculous situation arose when the helicopter arrived one morning with its retrieval team of medics, to transport a small child with an acute respiratory condition. It had to be ‘stabilised’ for transport, and they left about 5pm. The specialists at Starship evaluated the child the next morning, and the patient was returned to Wellington that afternoon, unventilated. (It would have had the same outcome, for less expense, if it had been kept in Wellington ICU)
    I appreciate that the population of Auckland has probably increased so that more beds are needed but maybe Starship still needs to be more astute deciding admission priority, so that the desperately ill from outlying centres can be accommodated.
    (Timaru would have consulted with Christchurch, who would have referred the child to Starship).

      I suppose too there’s some of the “been seen to be doing the right thing” going on too – something that has increased as any service providers are being put under greater pressure. The politically safe option is to send patients to Starship “just in case”.

  My grandchild had a week in Starship recently. I could not fault the nurses but the place is definitely tired looking and even grubby in some places. Not good.

DPF posted yesterday that the Republican-controlled Senate in Michigan found no evidence of election fraud- “Our clear finding is that citizens should be confident the results represent the true results of the ballots cast by the people of Michigan.”

Really? Well I revisited my old post about the 2020 presidential election in Michigan –

Was the 2020 presidential election stolen? Patrick Byrne in his book “The Deep Rig” lays out how it was done. For example in Michigan Trump wins on election night. At 2 AM polling locations in Detroit were shut. Ballot counters were told to go home. The voting stations windows were covered. Dominion executive shows up in Detroit polling station after midnight. Dominion is the manufacturer of the voting software. Trump’s election night lead disappears. Biden injection of votes appears. On November 7 at 6:31 AM Biden receives a vote injection of 54,199 votes. After that he goes on to win the state.

This happened in six states which swung the electoral college Biden’s way. After counting was “stopped” there were hundreds of thousands of ballot swings, often running 99.4% and even 100% Biden. There were occasions where a group of precincts in a state would in lockstep begin counting all presidential votes 17/18 for Biden, 1/18 for Trump. Then after 90 minutes their counting would all go back to normal, but another set of precincts in the state would suddenly flip to counting 17/18 for Biden, 1/18 for Trump. Precisely for 90 minutes. Then they would all flip back to normal. (Byrne page 32 and 33)

      Yes. Why do they need some complex algorithm, when they just need to distinguish a vote for one guy, from a vote for the other?
      
      Trump was nearing a mathematically impossible-to-beat position, so they paused the count and started feeding in votes for Biden in statistically impossible batches of fake ballots. That’s what happened and they can obfuscate all they like, it won’t change that fact. The people no longer control the US.

    Except that tabulation machines all over the place have been found to have SQL database software that they shouldn’t have on them (who put that there in contravention of law?) , and are sending vastly more ballots for human adjudication that they are by law permitted to, seemingly by design, and have been caught switching votes (eg Antrim county), having connections to internet, and myriad other issues that make them highly suspect.
    
    Voting machines were the big bad; unreliable, untrustworthy and easily compromised in all elections where democrats lost, but in 2020 are just dandy. In many jurisdictions they are administered maintained and controlled on election night by employees of Dominion (the vast majority of which are Democrats from donation records). There is an extremely dodgy appearance to their maintenance and procurement contracts – large contracts being awarded and increased election costs for states (often more expensive than paper ballot counting) highly suggestive of kickbacks to the same procuring politicians that are now defending them. Ownership of the voting machine companies also appears to have a very partisan slant with a large portion of ownership in PRC hands.
    
    If nothing else comes of 2020 investigations it is likely to upend the vote tabulation process – with many returning to manual counting of paper ballots.

Stuff has an article about a terminally ill man who is so fearful that he’s losing the rest of his life waiting for a vaccine. He’s already run out the clock of his expected lifespan and has a burning wish to do a few “bucket list” things.

Dude, grab life by the nuts and just go for it. If you hang around waiting much longer you lose the opportunity anyway. Getting a vaccine does not eliminate risks, but does reduce the impact of infections.

Playing the numbers game, that means getting a vaccination might increase your expected life by, say, a week (being generous), so if you’re putting your life on hold for more than a week for a vaccine then you’re short changing yourself.

I really wish you the best for what days you have left. Have fun while you can and go well.

More disturbing though is that stuff does not seem to think Maori and PI are people:
“Group 3 includes people aged 65,…, plus older Māori and Pacific people, …”. Doesn’t the group of 65+ already include older Maori and Pis?

    I’m in Waikato DHB (don’t know if that is either here or there) but this morning got a text telling me I’m in Group 3 for the vaccine rollout, and will get an invitation to book an appointment.
    Not sure what value that text has really – I kind of already knew that, being past 65 and all. The “when” might be helpful.

  Perhaps 65+ is “older” for Caucasians and Asians, but 55+ is “older” for Maori and Pacific Islanders?

      Hi Observer. No, I’m not embarrassed. I would say that in media I come across people of all persuasions; left, right, liberal, conservative…whatever definition you wish to put on an individual’s views. It would be the same as I have seen in other industries – and I have worked in a number.
      I do agree that it would be fair to say that “in general” the average journo/reporter would be “left/liberal”.
      I can also say that I have never been involved in ANY discussion either at a operational level journalist/reporter or at a “management-level” regarding manipulating news output to avoid “publishing the truth”.

  They have had 4 deaths since then.
  Look at a world map with outbreaks, Wuhan has had none, zero, zilch.

  China: There is no incentive to report a CV19 death. It probably brings big shame on the hospital, nurses & drs doing the treatment etc etc. Nope he died of a lung condition from too much smoking.
  
  USA: Hospital gets paid an extra $10k or whatever if they deal with a CV19 patient. Everyone has CV19 – even if you need to do a few extra cycles to find it.

    Actually cmm, I think it is more along the lines of “on average, it costs $x to treat a patient with condition 1 and $xx to treat a patient with the more serious condition 2”.
    If you’re more seriously ill and need a ventilator, of course you will likely stay longer in hospital and cost more to treat. And any scheme, like Medicare, that pays treatment costs will find itself paying more for your care.
    That is not evidence that hospital staff are routinely lying about the severity of the cases they are treating in order to get more money for their institutions.

It takes a lot to provoke New Zealanders politically. The last time it happened was in 1981, when a tour by the South African Springbok rugby team tore the country apart.

Since then, Kiwis have largely reverted to their default setting of complacency and passivity. Which makes it all the easier for Jacinda Ardern’s Labour government to push through an agenda of radical transformation quite unlike any the country has experienced.

The government has done its best to ensure continued media support for this ideological project by creating a $55 million slush fund, supposedly to support ‘public interest journalism’ but available only to news organisations that commit themselves to the promotion of the so-called principles (never satisfactorily defined) of the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi. What has been framed as an idealistic commitment to the survival of journalism is, in other words, a cynical and opportunistic bid for control over the news media at a time when the industry is floundering. This is a government so shameless, or perhaps so convinced of its own untouchability, that it is brazenly buying the media’s compliance.

You have the myopic view that it is 1 culture or the other, while there are at least 2 primary cultures there is also a 3rd being a comfortable blend.

      Dude I lived for 30 years in a country with MULTIPLE cultures and interacted with people form at least 5 different cultures on a regular basis so I understand some of the pros and cons of different cultures.
      
      I also learned to speak 4 languages well (still two fluently) so I am not adverse to different languages.
      
      I do not have a problem with people learning Maori if they choose. If there were many Maori speakers I would encourage teaching Maori in school because I believe people should be able to communicate. But most Maori can’t be bothered learning to speak Maori, so why force it down everyone’s throats?
      
      I do have a problem with this nonsense pushing for Maori separatism etc.
      
      While you have a very remote view of what separatism looks like, I lived under apartheid for 30 years. Separatism is destructive because it prevents the best rising to the top. Separatism is destructive because it makes for us vs them.
      
      South Africa still has separatism (except now it’s Black Economic Empowerment). That is even more destructive because it leads to massive corruption and still makes for us vs them.
      
      If you want to see what Maori separatism will bring then just look to Africa.

    Too true. It appears that there is no determinant on what hate speech is, only that it is speech that is towards a group and illicits harm. As an example, I don’t like McDonalds advertising, it encourages me to eat unhealthy food (actually I don’t care, I can make my own decisions) which is harmful to me, and I am sure I could find enough people who agree.
    
    Everyone is in many ways offended by other people/groups. Most of us learnt in primary school what the difference is between someone who is an areshole and someone who wants to cause us harm. We already have laws for the later.

    Further is she entering into the Christian churches freedom of religion arena? That is protected by the NZ Bill of Rights. There are some churches which rigorously affirm, as do the Scriptures, that “male and female” he made them.
    Anyone can be offended by almost anything. We do not have a State mandated religion in NZ, unlike the Muslim world.
    
    Ardern may not be aware that trying to remove the God as revealed through His Son Jesus Christ will cause offence in a higher place than she can control. Tova O’Brien asked Kris Faafoi if strengthening the laws on speech will prevent another attack like the March 15 mosques massacres. Faafoi’s reply is, “That’s the intent. I think stopping that fermenting of behaviour in our communities, the one thing about March 15 is someone acted on their opinions and hatred of a particular group.”

In the Guardian’s version the headline is “New Zealand moves to toughen hate speech laws in wake of Christchurch attacks” and next: “Justice minister says allowing people to continue to spread hatred could lead to a repeat of mosque terror attacks”.

It has been often observed that Tarrant actually said very little – not any real “hate speech” that bought him to anyone’s attention – until he emailed his manifesto to over 30 recipients, including the Prime Minister’s office, but by the time Police were advised of those emails, the attack had taken place.

So in truth it would seem the Government is trying to address matters like Islamophobia and racism, which were referred to by many addressing the Royal Commission, and which existed in parallel to the shooting tragedy, but as abusive language were not expressed as part of the heinous event.

Perhaps a little more honesty, integrity and transparency around this could be helpful, when “hate speech” itself is a moral matter.

Extremely ironically, “hate speech” had little to do with Tarrant.

If you stop people expressing themselves, prevent them from testing their ideas against the reality of others opinion, if you bottle their thoughts up for them to run misconceptions around and around in their own heads, untrue as they may be they solidify into beliefs, then you will have another Tarrant loose.
And perhaps not saying anything … but just eventually acting.

Instead of “hate speech” laws, the Government needs to look more at mental health and wellbeing – where they are failing abysmally with non-delivery … yet again.

In Queenstown they are commenting on the economic outcomes rather than the dangers of covid.
Remember when it was just a matter of waiting until we found a vaccine.
Then it was – just wait to see if the latest variant is controlled by the vaccines.
In the background there is always the – what happens next year. How much long term immunity will vaccines and having had covid provide.
Will we need a booster every year. Is it possible to expect a organised rollout every year.
Are we starting to understand that eventually we have to accept that there will always be some sort of risk.

I read the article on the Herald America’s Cup poll: How Kiwis feel about the Government’s $99m bid to keep Cup in NZ (paywalled) out of curiosity.

What I found telling, but not a surprise was that young people were more inclined to support this at any cost compared to those over 60 who thought the Governments offer was about right. To me shows that there is either a low understanding of finance or an apathy towards being fiscally responsible.

Perhaps a reflection that the this is why they support a Government spending large without any thought that they will be paying the bill for this tomorrow.

I’ll tell you what we did watch last night, which was extremely moving AND very sad….the interview on Sunday with Sir Bob Parker and his beautiful wife Jo.
Lady Jo has been Bob’s ‘rock’ since his devastating Stroke….and what an abfab Lady she is!
So caring and understanding. I’m not sure if I could ever do it.

Actually, I don’t recall having seen Jo before, but you could tell straight away she’s the type of person we would welcome as a member of the Tennis Club if they ever shifted to Remuera. Wouldn’t even need to make a formal application to join.

We remember Sir Bob of course as ‘the voice of calm & reason’ in the aftermath of the quake, giving people hope and solace.
Although Jo was saying, he still came in for a lot of abuse and criticisim which weighed heavily on his mind.
She related one particular incident, when he met with a delegation from Japan, some of whom were related to the Japanese students who died in the collapse of the CTV building.
According to Jo, they called Bob…. a Murderer! This was something he never forgot.

My partner was quick to remark… “Doesn’t sound like any of the delegation would have seen Merry Christmas Mister Lawrence then”

The use or should I say incorrect use of the word Aotearoa is a classic example. Winston Peters is on to it. Maori never had a name for this archipelago. The first name it was given was New Zeeland by the explorer Abel Tasman. Then along came Captain Cook and he decided to anglicise the name to New Zealand. Aotearoa may have been the Maori name for the North Island and surrounding islands but there is considerable doubt about that. Maori had different names for the North and South Islands. Aotea was the name for Great Barrier Island.

  He named Australia “Nova Hollandia”.
  James Cook changed it to “New Zealand” (a bit like changing beetles to Beatles.)
  Aotearoa as an alternate name for the entirety of NZ seems to date back to William Pember Reeves, MP, in 1898.

  Planes always have to have enough fuel aboard to fly to an alternate airport where they can safely land.
  For Rarotonga that may be Auckland.
  The runway at Tonga may be long enough but it probably isn’t strong enough.
  The plane will therefore have to turn back to Auckland while it still has sufficient fuel to get there. If they were to go around again and still not be able to land they could be below that minimum fuel value.

Did a little digging yesterday on vaccine benefits. Seems that they reduce risk of death from covid to about 5% of unvaccinated. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7996517/
Assuming 0.5% unvaccinated IFR then that is about .025% IFR in a vaccinated population. Flu IFR is up to about 0.1%

But then consider the list of drugs that appear to reduce covid risk of death if taken early or prophylactically; Vitamin D, hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, fluvoxamine, proxalutamide and a few others. Accumulated trial and analysis data https://c19early.com/ suggest they reduce risk of death by 50-90% individually, and it is possible that in combination they will be even better. If true that isn’t far off being competitive with vaccination for risk reduction.

That might change the maths on who should be taking vaccines, particularly given health risks from vaccination to young men and as yet unknown impacts on female fertility (vaccine components accumulate strongly in ovaries with as yet unknown long term impacts). Though vaccination still seems to be the best choice for older adults.

Is that why there has seemingly been such a strong FUD campaign from medical establishment against drugs for Covid risk reduction in the west? and a complete failure to promote ultra-safe risk reductions like Vitamin D supplements (that would perhaps threaten vaccine emergency use authorisations)

  vaccines are almost certainly the answer – so long as they are well tested and safe. But it does not clear to me that giving them to kids (1 in a million risk of death from covid) and teenagers (1 in 300000) or young adults (1 in 100000) who are at very low risk from Covid is in their best interest (even if it helps contribute to population herd immunity), particularly given reports on serious adverse reactions and deaths in many youngsters.

Full text of the latest Free Speech Union update:

The more that our elected lawmakers talk about the proposed “hate speech” laws, the more concerned I become. And the more I want them to talk about it to highlight the folly of their scheme

Yesterday our Minister of Justice, Kris Faafoi, gave an interview in which he couldn’t say that millennials wouldn’t risk 3 years in jail if they blamed boomers for not being able to afford a house.

Tova O’Brien asked him about other examples – like if Israel Folau could be imprisoned for stating his belief that homosexuals are going to hell. Minister Faafoi couldn’t say whether or not the proposed law would apply. He didn’t know “hate speech” when it was presented to him.

And this morning our Prime Minister told us the proposed law was to clarify the existing legislation. She claimed it was to stop incitement to violence against groups, but political opinion would not be included as a protected category.

This makes no sense. Incitement to violence is already a crime. As it should be. Against anyone, whether in a group or not.

She omitted to explain that the dangerous changes are about “incitement to discrimination and hostility” against groups. They want to criminalise speech that is perceived as abusive or insulting.

All to enhance “community cohesion”.

These are the word tools used to oppress and abuse incumbent power the world over. The establishment gets to decide what is abusive or insulting, to determine what might incite to discriminate, and they get to prosecute, convict and punish with all the power and resources of the state, often with secret or suppressed evidence. As we faced in the Auckland High Court at the hands of Auckland Council last week.

The real proposals have nothing to do with incitement to violence. Either the Prime Minister knew that, and was actively seeking to deceive, or she has no idea what she is doing.

We stand firmly with the current law, and its protection of all, including political groups, against incitement to violence. We cannot imagine why our PM wants to allow incitement to violence against people with a certain political opinion? Who does she have in mind as the targets?

We are delighted to hear that both ACT and National will reverse the law, should it pass. We believe we’ve already had an influence – our standing up for free speech has helped ensure the two parties were ready to be clear and definite on Labour’s scheme when it was announced.

They need to go further now and commit to fixing the law National left in place that is being abused by enemies of free speech.

    My limited knowledge of the law tells me that that was not a “protest” . It was an offence under common law ( obstructing the Queens’ Highway), at least and the Cops should have ( if they didn’t) let the snotty nosed brat know in no uncertain terms that he/she /it would be seeing the inside of the watch house should they pull that stunt again .
    
    And any apologies should have been directed to the members of the public inconvenienced by said prat.

Heard 0n grapevine local marae would give you a shot if they had leftover vaccine. Turned up and found a long queue of similar middle class elderlies hoping for leftovers. Heard someone say there were none that day so I bowled up to a desk and asked to make an appointment. Not a problem.
Have had my first shot and an appointment for my second. I have already had SARS and still suffering loss of smell and taste years later so don’t want another d0se.
But this is a crazy system. Is the marae just being paid for shots delivered so giving them to anyone who rocks up?
Lots of marae personnel directing traffic, marshalling queues etc. What is their contract with the government?

Just been to Hamilton this morning to listen to what Judith Collins take on Jacinda Ardern and many other issues , 180 party members attended and I take back what have previously though of her whilst my previous thoughts on her was I believed she was damaged good over some her past decisions I was quite impressed on what she had to say and her determination to show people exactly what Jacinda Arderns agenda is and how she will deal with it and the politically corrupt media.

  “We already have provisions to deal with what I describe – you know some call it hate speech – I’d call it extreme speech.
  “The debate is whether or not in the aftermath of what we’ve experienced on March 15 we need to include the likes of religion, and that is something the Royal Commission did recommend we extend to.
  
  “So I would reach out to those across all sides of the House and say, look, given we have been called on to do this, I’d very interested in what their view is and what they would see as being a way to make sure that we are bringing in those who were at the most extreme end of an experience.”
  
  The opposition parties argue putting political opinion into the legislation created concerns, and there needed to be clarity over who would decide what the threshold for that was.
  Ardern said they were simply putting out for debate what should be included and what should not be.
  
  “Because at the moment under our human rights legislation, it covers discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, on sexual orientation, on disability, we haven’t included absolutely every provision.
  
  “The question we’ve asked is – because keep in mind this is a discussion document – what groups should be included and what groups should not.
  
  “I would much rather our opposition parties work with us to try and create legislation that responds to the extreme event [15 March] we had in New Zealand.”
  
  She said the government would not be the ones determining whether a person’s speech crossed the political opinion threshold, but rather law enforcement.
  
  She agreed that bipartisan support was crucial for a legislation like this.

Jacinda Ardern when questioned on The AM Show about the proposed Hate Speech law;

Ardern defended Faafoi on Monday, telling the AM Show he was “pepper-potted with a bunch of examples and it’s not for us to determine what a court may or may not do”.

That’s an… interesting constitutional approach (to say the least). Parliament doesn’t need to define the law and how they intend it to work, because they can’t know how judges will interpret it anyway. Why not just scribble laws as suggestions on the back of a napkin and have the courts make up the rest as they go along?

      Haha SB2 Jacinda Ardern wants bipartisan support because she knows this will cost her just about all the political capital she has built up dispite her best efforts to have Chris Faafoi front it for her so he would wear some of the blame. But even he ended up being out of his depth and creating a bigger problem for our lying , decietful Prime Minister.

And Heather Du-Plessis Allan joins the throngs of people weighing into the Government over the proposed hate speech laws.

In her introduction just after 4:00 pm today, Heather blasted both Jacinda Ardern and Kris Faafoi for obviously having ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA about just what the implications are. She picked out two examples from some TV interview this morning where Ms Ardern downplayed the impact of the proposed laws – or outright, err, was economical with the truth – and proceeded to read out the relevant parts from the actual discussion document.

How can they put forward something that everybody knows is going to be incredibly contentious, and then just wade into interviews without having a clue what they’re talking about?

You’re not on the Jono and Ben show now, Jacinda …

  That’s almost nothing compared to the TV3 news together with the AM show.
  It’s starting to look like she has no idea what her Ministers are saying or doing AND has absolutely no idea of what the consultation document says. She insists that “Cabinet ” excluded political comment and also that “inciting violence” has to be in the mix. She hasn’t got a CLUE.

The flick “Being There” is on my mind.

The main character is the middle-aged, simple-minded Chancey Gardener. He has never had a real job, except being a gardener. Through a series of accidents, Chancey eventually meets the President.

The President discusses the economy and Chauncey discusses gardening, as follows:

“President “Bobby”: Mr. Gardner, do you agree with Ben, or do you think that we can stimulate growth through temporary incentives?
Chance: As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden.
President “Bobby”: In the garden.
Chance: Yes. In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again.
President “Bobby”: Spring and summer.
Chance: Yes.
President “Bobby”: Then fall and winter.
Chance: Yes.
Benjamin Rand: I think what our insightful young friend is saying is that we welcome the inevitable seasons of nature, but we’re upset by the seasons of our economy.
Chance: Yes! There will be growth in the spring!
Benjamin Rand: Hmm!
Chance: Hmm!
President “Bobby”: Hm. Well, Mr. Gardner, I must admit that is one of the most refreshing and optimistic statements I’ve heard in a very, very long time. … I admire your good, solid sense. That’s precisely what we lack on Capitol Hill.”

Everyone thinks Chauncey is a deep thinker. Eventually Chauncey becomes President.

The entire movie is absurd. The story that a rookie who has never had a real job could become leader of a country is obviously absurd.

The idea that people could read great empathy or intelligence into nonsense an imbecile is saying also seems extremely unlikely.

Then I just saw Ms Ardern’s comments on the hate speech legislation, and I just can’t work it out. To some less charitable people than CAKE, it may seem that she is lying – a lot. Maybe there is an alternative answer to this?

I suspect that she may have the same difficulties as Chauncey. This may sound unkind, but I don’t mean it to be.

How to explain the numerous contradictions, nonsense and outright errors she babbles about the hate speech legislation?

I think the Prime Minister may be slightly mentally defective. Her IQ is perhaps at levels of someone who can function at basic levels of life, but not at levels anywhere near those needed by a Prime Minister.

  I wouldn’t go to that extreme.
  
  I think she is intellectually lazy and doesn’t do the hard yards in mastering information.
  
  She has spent too long in the flim-flam world where shallowness abounds.
  
  I know some folks think she is clever because of her repartee at times… but it’s not difficult to learn a few
  verbal tricks to employ at staged events…. standard debating techniques which many school kids now learn.

Oh look,
Our PM has finally realised that she didn’t have a clue about the proposed Hate speech legislation.

“This is about extreme speech where you’re inciting violence and hatred,” Ardern said.

But that’s wrong. The proposed threshold can be much lower than inciting violence. The Prime Minister has now been forced to concede there are other factors too – like insulting someone.

“In the interview from the Nation they implied political opinion is included – it is not,” she said.

That’s not right either. The Prime Minister says Cabinet ruled out including political opinion, but it is still included in their discussion document for the public.

  I actually voted for the law change.
  Why?
  Because I want the law to come in.
  Because only when it comes in will the great unwashed population of New Zealand realise what a bunch of far quits we have running our country and that those reprehensible people MUST be voted out of office. A law change like that mooted will be the final straw. I want it. Then the detritus of our present regime can go and lick one anothers’ haemorrhoids.
