Election 2023 : How small business plan to vote.
The voting intention of small business owners has swung dramatically over the last three years, new research shows support for Labour has plummeted from 30% in the 2020 Election to just 15% now.
I believe that with figures like this now becoming available for the public tosee will only strengthen the call for a change of Government and make it harder for the Labour Leader Chris Hipkins to convince the public to give his rotten Government another term.

  There’s also finally been a Reality Check Radio Curia poll in Northland, Grant McCullum, National has a clear lead, it looks like racism is affecting poor WJP, Labour, known as the invisible electorate mp, under around 20%, Shane Jones 6%, Mark Cameron 3% and Matt King 2%. About 30% undecided

      Sir C your conclusions re the 30% are strange. 16% did not vote in 2020 and turnout was 64% in 2015 so the % turnout of the ‘undecided’ will probably be low. GM should be safe.

    That’s not what I heard yesterday when campaigning at the market in Stratford in the morning, then at Manaia in the afternoon for the Taranaki vs Wellington rugby match to celebrate the centenary of Yarrows the Bakers.
    
    People have had an absolute gutsful of the Labour government, and can’t wait to start voting it out from Monday 2nd October.

      I hope you are right Tony. I am making all comments based on the opinion polls which still show only a slight difference between NAT/ACT and the toxic trio which is worrying so close to election. NAT/ACT should be a clear 7-8% higher now than the 1-2% the polls are projecting. A good indication of the status will be through the Roy-Morgan poll due out sometime next week. If it still shows only a small gap, we all should be really worried.

  Shaw doesn’t care that we can’t achieve ‘net zero’ and have a standard of living similar to what we have now – he simply wants rid of FF. Claims that their won’t be major upheavals (to be fair to Shaw, I’ve heard him tell us that their will be major upheavals) are bullshit.
  Mark points out what would be required to be able to make cars and produce energy in the same volumes/prices as we do now, and it’s pretty clear that it’s impossible. People like James Shaw and Luxon (who claims he’s fully on board with net zero) can still wreck our lives though. They either don’t understand the impossibility/enormity of the task, which makes them ignorant, or they do, which means they’re not our friends.
  Thankfully, we’re starting to hear from people (e.g Tony Blair and Lord Frost) who are suggesting that the net zero goals might be a wee bit lofty and maybe we should rein in on the insanity a little.

    This is precisely why the Government’s approach is so idiotic. Get the ETS working properly and money will quickly find its way to the most effective and efficient low-carbon solutions. If electric cars aren’t an effective and efficient approach to reducing GHG emissions, for whatever reason, then emissions trading won’t make them happen. And that’s a good thing.
    
    By contrast, crippling the ETS and instead attempting to force through this or that particular emissions-reducing approach through a hodgepodge of tech-specific incentives, regulations and taxes absolutely guarantees that emissions reduction will be slower, patchier and far, far more expensive.
    
    Yes, making it more expensive to emit GHGs will be disruptive and cause upheavals. So did the invention of the telephone and the Internet.

        You don’t have to agree that climate change needs to be addressed, to support a well-designed and effective ETS. You only have to accept that this Government, like every Government and almost every opposition in the world, does agree that climate change needs to be addressed. That being the case, it is clearly in everybody’s interest that the Government take the approach which is most likely to deliver the most effective solutions for the least expense.

Damien Grant today – More and more people are heard asking themselves ‘why do I stay?’

All my siblings and a lot of cousins are already in Australia and raising families there. Family member, a mid career midwife living in the provinces, says she can work there for 3 months and return with 3 months pay in her pocket.

Another family member has sold up and moved to south east Asia, living well. Young tradie and partner, no kids yet, looking across the ditch – family and mates already there. Doesn’t know it but his inheritance will be coming now, not future, to set up there.

  I understand the rationale, but it also reveals something that has been inculcated into the modern mindset that is a huge factor in so many of our problems – it’s all about “me” and there is no sense of a collective interest, obligation and responsibility.
  
  People have this idea that everything they have is solely a result of their own labours. This is partially true, but not wholly. We were all handed a legacy intact from our ancestors, but some are too piss weak to do anything to pass it on to posterity, in the collective sense. They’d rather just capitulate and slip out the back door to make things as easy as possible for number 1. Again, I get the rationale, but it is an ignoble mindset.
  
  This is tendency to bail out and save yourself applies as equally to people cashing up and leaving, as it does to people with their hands out on a benefit for 20 years, as it does to teen ram raiders. You wouldn’t want any of these people next to you fighting in a hypothetical trench, because they cannot be counted on due to their weak character.
  
  If it’s all about the individual, then who cares if we get co-governance or a useless government? Just head over to the airport and piss off. Stop bitching about it on Kiwiblog if you’re just going to bail out and save yourself.
  
  The going gets tough, a bit uncomfortable, and so people piss off. Lovely. If they claim to be New Zealanders who care about New Zealand, then they should have a commitment to the place. They should really have to renounce their citizenship on the way out too – after all, if they’re leaving, then go: fine, just don’t come crawling back if and when it suits.
  
  We see this same attitude at the level of marriage break-ups, for instance: no real commitment required, and so it’s all over as soon as things get a bit difficult.

    Please set out HOW we as concerned Kiwi’s can actually turn around the cultural rot that is embedded in our core institutions: Standing Bureaucracy at Local and Central levels, Academia, Primary and Secondary education sector, Media, Political Parties.
    
    Our two main parties believe the treaty is a partnership. A pure lie!! but they both put that forward as the truth and act accordingly. And the institutions mentioned above are all on board with that lie and what flows from it.
    
    For the average kiwi who don’t agree with the lie, if they speak out they are attacked by the media, the lie promoting troll farms jump on the persons employer and basically try to destroy that average kiwis life. We have seen examples of this.
    
    So if National doesn’t have the backbone, if given the treasury benches by the electorate in a few months, to actually ROLL back the embedded lie based policies – what should an average kiwi concerned for they futures and that of their descendants do?
    
    Leave seems a valid, non violent reaction. if I was 10 years young I would be doing exactly that and I am encouraging the young members of my extended family to do just that; take your skills to Australia and don’t look back as New Zealand is pretty stuff if we don’t see radical change in the next government

      Hmm. If only the problem was confined to NZ, but it’s not. Sure, we have the co-governance thing & that’s a biggie. However, this will likely be true of every former colony, to a greater or lesser extent. Switching to your Euro roots, if you have them & if they’ll let you in – well, 15 minute cities, anyone? SE Asia is attractive but ultimately you’re a foreigner there & they can kick you out any time they like.
      
      So, NZ is my place & I’m not going anywhere. I’ll fight the good fight (metaphorically) here.

    Che – what this mass migration says to me is that there is no confidence in a National/ACT government turning the rot in our country around. Migrating is not easy and costs $$$’s and the decision to go is enormous. If there was hope that things would change significantly people would wait and see before going. I have been following politics for quite some time, and I would struggle to remember a week like the one we have just had.

Leaks from the Government Caucus regarding Kiri Allen.

The governments Tax Plan ending up in the hands of the Opposition Finance Spokesman.

A high profile minister defying the PM, and then quitting the portfolio in question.

The Justice Minister crashing her car, while under the influence, leaving the scene of the accident, then apparently (Using her own words to the PM) resisting arrest.

Well done to Nicola Willis for keeping her eyes on the prize.

  And while this was going on Chris Luxon continued to draw big crowds to his public meetings, including over 500 in Johnsonville where he and Nicola Willis shared the stage. It was standing room only, with the crowd overflowing to the foyer, and it was a younger crowd than Labour stooges have been so dismissive of.
  
  People are listening to Luxon, and they’re liking what they hear. It may not yet be evident in the polls, but right across New Zealand, there is a mood for a change of government.

Fuel Prices look set to rise again one month after fuel excise duty cut ended.
This will be not what Labour Prime Minister Chris Hipkins wanted or needed and will surely put more pressure on many people’s budgets.and ability to save, as fuel prices rising means transport costs to businesses higher prices at the pump and what it could mean for inflation.

I don’t have an issue with clean energy if it is pursued with the goal of helping mankind in a manner which will produce environmental and economic returns.

Musk’s approach at tesla is a great example. I read he has received subsidies but tesla is now a profitable company coming up with many ground breaking technical solutions. The gigapress has revolutionalized car production.

On the flip side of the coin HIPKINS is pumping billions of tax dollars into CO2 reducing schemes which provide very little or no return.

If Labour are not lowering emissions with the billions they are taking off us then we need to ask why the policy exists and who is benefitting from our hard earned.

We must insist on a forensic audit of all Labour Party spending for the last 6 years and transparency on where the money ended up.

I suggest starting with Adern and Pfizer.

  Mark Hanley – we’re fully off grid, no reticulated water or power. We use bottled gas for cooking and occasionally hot water. We have solar hot water which provides 80 – 90% of our hot water requirements.
  My point is, we like the concept of alternative energy and reduction of pollution. Conservation of water etc etc. These things come with the territory.
  
  My problem with the ‘green movement’ adopted and worshipped by zealots like the ‘stop oil’ lunatics, is that it is closer to religion than science. It is fanatical ideology.
  
  I am convinced that, even if they were meritorious, it is completely impossible to achieve the goals these disciples advocate. There simply are not enough resources on the planet to produce the energy required to maintain our current life styles.
  The people at the top of this movement cannot all be idiots. They surely understand this. The only conclusion left is, they are happily going about the job of destroying the lives of billions of people, killing millions in the process. All to create a perceived utopia.
  Of course, they will not change their own life style one iota.
  
  It is the ‘great reset’ and ‘build back better’ in process. We are in a war and it is going to get very messy indeed. People need to be prepared for that eventuality.

    Hi Clan, pollution reduction and sustainable clean energy are unquestionably necessary goals. but these goals must be achieved in an economically sensible manner.
    
    You are living proof the above is achievable.
    
    The issue lies with the thieves who hijack the goals to steal our money.
    
    It isn’t hard to see who the thieves are (many Americans question how Obama earned his immense post presidency wealth), I just can’t understand why there isn’t more effort put into catching the thieves.
    
    NZ taxpayers suffered 2 Labour Government’s which resulted in mysterious riches for the party hierarchy. Enough Labour Minister corruption, awarding lucrative government contracts to their families, has been exposed to warrant a forensic investigation of government spending. Unless the incoming government investigates, exposes and where possible prosecutes corrupt PMs and ministers, the behaviour will repeat.
    
    I opined on multiple occasions that we need a strict government and public sector conflicts of interest policy, with regular reviews, and real consequences. Thomas Cranmer agrees with me.
    
    Tellingly though, when I asked Rodney Hide why corrupt politicians aren’t investigated in NZ (I was referring to the covid jab fraud, the most deadly fraud in NZ’s history), the usually responsive Mr Hide remained deathly silent.
    
    Post election I will be attending Luxon’s, Seymour’s, and Reti’s public meetings to ask them to instigate: a public inquiry into the covid response, a forensic investigation of all Labour Minister’s spending, referenda to cement good laws which can’t be overturned by future self-enriching Labour Party hierarchy’s.
    
    If enough of us raise the issues, we will get change.

The Australian led its edition yesterday with the “revelation” that Anthony Fauci deliberately downplayed suspicions from scientists that Covid-19 came from a lab to protect his reputation and deflect from risky research his agency had funded.

Of course, if you’d followed more than just the Herald or Stuffed or Jacindas podium of truth, you would have known more than two years ago that the CDC funded gain of function research at the Wuhan Lab and that the corona virus was man-made by the US Government in conjunction with the Chinese Government. And, the vaccine for a novel corona virus was being prepared six years ago, yes, three years prior to the Wuhan leak.

Ate there still those who think the Covid shemozzle was a mysterious pandemic where locking us down and injecting us with an untested vaccine was unplanned and “unlucky”? Surely not. Well maybe except for “river of filth” politicians who prayed on fear and propagated lies in order to keep control, including from National and Act (yes they’re as much to blame).

I’m still dealing with the economic fallout with my clients, as this country will also do for many more years, even decades.

The shrugging of shoulders by our “leaders” won’t be enough for me. I’m not voting for any of them this year.

        Chuck, I’m reasonably confident this year’s election won’t swing on my one party vote when I abstain.
        
        I’m not the sort of person to vote against a possible government. I have thought about this long and hard, and I cannot in good conscience vote for parties that a) advocated for children under 5 to be jabbed as soon as possible, and b) stood up in Parliament and gave a speech praising the behaviour of the police at the protest.

    Why are National/Act continuing to support the covid narrative and refusing point blank to acknowledge any of the draconian policies were wrong?
    It was, (and for many, continues to be) a nightmare which destroyed lives, businesses and relationships. Why is asking for this to be acknowledged apparently impossible?
    
    I want rid of this nightmare government with a passion. One of the key reasons though, is what they did to me, my family and many friends with their horrific covid policies to force compliance in a medical experiment.
    No, it’s not a single issue election, but this issue is one of the biggest in the history of the country and it deserves to be at the very least, a part of any discussion in an election campaign.
    
    To simply wish it away and pretend it didn’t happen is as cowardly as it is disrespectful to those who’s lives were destroyed.
    
    Acknowledge it. Do it with honesty and integrity. Promise never to let it happen again.
    
    National/Act will get a massive boost in the polls.
    
    It’s just the right thing to do.

    I do not agree with Seymour’s actions over mandates but I am not as passionate as some as NK and others. However, I do not agree with his stance on late-term abortions and expanding the reasons for euthanasia. However, I agree with his sensible position on climate change.

    Its not only Chinese batteries that self-combust. If people get good batteries and rapid charge them too often, the same will happen. The same thing happens when people use a charger that doesn’t have the software for that particular battery it’s charging. Overheating the batteries while charging is a no-no. And then there were the Samsung phone batteries that were just too flimsy.

      I have a MavicPro drone. Two spare batteries. Each of those batteries have a charging record, also the flight paths with the date. When there is a software/firmware update, each battery has to go through the same process.
      So what I am saying is the charger does not have the software – each battery carries it.

The potential to light up the neighbourhood in a chain reaction when even one of them catches fire cannot be over-stressed. There are seventeen of these damned apartments.

A prominent former National Cabinet Minister who graces Kiwiblog with comments failed to inform us about what actual steps his sensible peers, who are taking taxpayer money to buy their new cars, are taking to combat climate change.
I have some suggestions;
No more vacations, unnecessary road trips, and especially air travel are very carbon intensive, let’s cut those out.
Downsizing, a twenty m² apartment is plenty for empty nesters, apartment living and using only public transport is great for the environment.
Get rid of pets, pets are unnecessary and colossal carbon emitters, and don’t fit with apartments.
Remote meetings, stay at home, avoid the traffic, the taxpayer funded lunches and save the planet.
I’m sure there’s many more things others could add to the list.

  On Kamala Harris:
  As for Kamala Harris, as you say, she was always the logical choice. In fact through the debates she was my choice to be the candidate. She simply looks presidential.
  
  She will strengthen the ticket. She is probably the most moderate of all the VP options, and comes across as savvy and strong.
  
  And the reason I put National in that title is that Mapp’s ideas, “judgement” and over-all condescending tone could not have survived as an MP and then Cabinet Minister unless he was swimming in friendly seas.

      Truth be told, when I joined No Minister in 2019 and found that we had a former National Cabinet Minister commenting I was pretty bloody impressed. True democracy in such a person being willing to interact back and forth with the plebs, even if he had been out of politics since 2011.
      
      But over time I grew fucking horrified. This was what I had been voting for all those elections since 2002? This mentality? This attitude? If it had been in just one area I could have shrugged my shoulders and accepted a difference of opinion or policy, but it’s philosophical and across-the-board.
      
      And this is an overall attitude that I found incomprehensible even in the old, so-called “Liberal” wing of National. Seriously, aside from taxes and spending, if you dumped him into today’s Labour cabinet, how different would he look to this lot?
      
      Hell, even on matters of tax and spending he is – judging from his comments about cutting civil servant numbers and not being too “disruptive” – “wetter than a haddock’s bathing costume.’, as the saying goes.
      
      But even that’s not the worst. There are always mavericks in every Party. The thing that worries me is that he not only survived but thrived in the National Party, retiring on his own terms in 2011. Which means there are others like him on issue after issue.
      
      Oh, and just for a laugh, and to get back to the subject of EV’s in NZ, he claims that it was his exposure to Thatcher in Britain in the 1980’s that caused to leave Labour and eventually join National.
      
      Yes, I’m sure Maggie would have fully supported subsidies for EV’s, FFS.

Did you know that New Zealand’s nett debt in 2019 was $5.4 billion? Did you know that this year, it’s $73.3 bn and by 2026 it will be $95.3 bn?

Did you know that the cost on interest in 2023 is $1606 per annum for every New Zealander, man, woman, child, and newborn infant? That’s without paying back a single dollar of debt.

Did you know that interest costs will this year be the fourth highest item of expenditure on the Crown balance sheet, behind Welfare, Health and Education? And that the cost of interest payments will be more than the expenditure on the Police, Courts and Corrections put together?

We are drowning in debt because the current government believes that problems are solved by throwing vast amounts of money at them. Grant Robertson won’t tell you about the debt numbers, because if would destroy the myth he has created that our economy is robust and doing well. But when the books are opened in September, we’re going to find out the truth. My six-month-old granddaughter’s children, and possibly even their children, are going to be carrying the cost of this government for their lifetimes.

  There is an even bigger longer term debt problem – our unrealised liabilities (age care, public health, national super payment) will balloon out to over $1.2 trillion by 2061 (Treasury forecast). We either reduce spend and increase taxes (current plan of all political parties to varying degrees), or we switch to a savings based economic model as proposed by Sir Roger Douglas more than 40 yrs ago.
  
  Under the Robertson plan we go broke well before 2061.

We will convert those nasty coal burning boilers, used for drying milk, to wood chip boilers. The conversion is free to the Company as the mug taxpayer will be funding it.
Then, instead of a truck load of coal each day, we will have ten truck loads of wood chips delivered to the factory each day.
Thankfully those diesel powered trucks do no damage to the roads through a peat area, and are great for the environment.///

  It was only a few years ago that Antarctic sea ice was at really high levels and “Climate Change!” did that too.

Weird

An investigation into a Reedley warehouse uncovered a large-scale illegal medical lab complete with bioengineered mice, infectious agents, nearly 30 refrigerators and freezers some of which were non-operational, incubators, and more leaving officials shocked and the public worried.

Local, state, and federal agencies are all involved and what prompted this investigation was a simple garden hose that was illegally attached and coming out of a wall in the back of the building.

It was inside an ordinary warehouse located on “I” and Ninth Streets in the City of Reedley that a disturbing and shocking discovery was made back in April.

  What is also repugnant about Coffey deciding to stand, is that in March he was retiring from politics so that he could devote more time to his family (someone else made similar statements at the end of January), but now there isn’t a second thought for his family, instead he is the person who can help rebuild the East Cape.
  
  All I can say, is what an inflated ego this man, Coffey has been a lack luster MP who lost his electorate seat in 2020, now East Cape voters are meant to believe he is committed to East Cape as a whole, and not his family either! Please pass the sick bucket!
