  Quite right Steve. Trump wanted the national guard there but the mayor of Washington and also Nancy Pelosi refused.
  So it was never an insurrection. It was a protest against a stolen election. If it was an insurrection it would be the first time no insurrectionist brought a gun to the conflict.

    Not enough people know anywhere near enough details about all this. When Tucker Carlson finally aired security camera footage that had been shared with him (in his Fox News role) by Kevin McCarthy (Republican House Speaker), it was treated as “news” by those who covered it (and of course the Left “MSM” didn’t) – “insurrectionists” strolling around exchanging pleasantries with Capitol Security and generally following instructions – and the “QAnon Shaman” got released soon after from the absurd prison sentence he had been sentenced to. But anyone who had been following the issue directly on social media had already seen cellphone footage – tons of it out there – that showed the same thing. It is frightening how narratives get established and actual video evidence counts for nothing, at least partly because even the “goodies” don’t know how to use the ammunition that is available.
    Anyone who saw actual footage of James Fields and his Dodge Challenger at Charlottesville would also know that the narrative that he was some kind of right-wingnut equivalent of an Allahu-Akhbar pedestrian-rammer, is a frame-up. The latter would have been going 10 to 20 times the speed and would have killed dozens, in the same circumstances. The one woman who died was sandwiched between two cars trapped in the crowd, that Fields rear-ended because he couldn’t see them.

  The threshold of army deployments on US soil is extremely high, and there is also the issue of the Posse Comitatus Act which prohibits the deployment of the US Armed Forces to enforce law on US soil.
  
  If Trump called for deployment of troops at the Capitol, he may well have been wrong in law to do so.

    “Members of the National Guard are rarely covered by the Posse Comitatus Act because they usually report to their state or territory’s governor. That means they are free to participate in law enforcement if doing so is consistent with state law. However, when Guard personnel are called into federal service, or “federalized,” they become part of the federal armed forces, which means they are bound by the Posse Comitatus Act until they are returned to state control.”
    
    Insurrection Act:
    “In addition, the Insurrection Act allows the president — with or without the state government’s consent — to use the military to enforce federal law or suppress a rebellion against federal authority in a state, or to protect a group of people’s civil rights when the state government is unable or unwilling to do so.”
    
    DC District of Columbia is not a State. The DC Guard is always under Presidential Control. (That would be Trump in 2021.)

    The President controls the DC National Guard, of which there’s about 2,000 troops (+ about 700 airmen). The President can call the DC NG out.
    
    *If* Trump, as President, wanted 10,000 National Guard members called out then he would need to have negotiated that with the Governors of other states. There is no evidence that he did that – in fact the evidence is to the contrary.
    
    And all the evidence to date, given under oath, is that Trump did not call out the DC NG. (*)
    
    Yes it’s possible the people in the article Steve links to may testify before Congress. However:
    * Previous testimony, under oath, has been very clear that Trump did not call out either the DC NG or any other troops.
    * So if these new “witnesses” testify otherwise then either (a) they are lying under oath or (b) previous witnesses lied under oath.
    
    (* When the DC NG did eventually turn out on Jan 6 it was at the “request” of Mike Pence. I say “request” because the VP is not in the direct chain-of-command for the DC NG and so Pence actually had no formal authority to order them to do anything.)

        * Trump floated the idea of calling out the Guard,
        * But in the context of them protecting his supporters,
        * But didn’t actually call out the Guard,
        * Couldn’t, on his own at least, have called out 10,000 Guardsmen,
        * Meanwhile Pelosi, Milley and others had legitimate fears that he wanted to use the Guard as part-reason for invoking the Insurrection Act.

        The one person who could quickly clear up the “10,000 National Guard” thing is Mark Meadows, because it all originates from an interview he gave to Fox News.
        
        Meadows was subpoenaed by the Jan 6 committee, but didn’t appear, as did Pete Navarro, Steve Bannon and Dan Scavino.
        
        The DoJ charged Navarro & Bannon with contempt of Congress, and won. Navarro’s in prison right now, Bannon is meant to be.
        
        Here’s the conspiracy … the DoJ declined to charge Meadows & Scavino. Why? The legal theory is that it was in return for them testifying in other future cases. Mmm. What cases?

        There’s an immense volume of video footage of Jan 6 – so it’s a factual event that cannot be denied.
        
        An insurrection is “a violent uprising against an authority or government”. It’s clear that Jan 6 was a violent event intended to stop the regular business of the government.
        
        To say otherwise, as you are, is complete ostrich behaviour.
        
        And note that the witnesses to the Jan 6 committee were Republicans, nearly all of whom served in the Trump administration. This was Trump’s own people. Just dismissing sworn testimony because you just don’t like it isn’t adult behaviour.

These deaths of babies and young children at the hands of their parents seem to be increasing.

The mother therefore wants the baby’s death to be recorded as an “accident”. Nobody is to blame.

Interestingly, until about 1990, the child homicide rates for Maori and non Maori were about the same. After 1990, the homicide rates for Maori children rose dramatically.

This picture does not support the claim that “colonisation” is to blame for high Maori family violence and child homicide. Surely the adverse impacts of colonisation were more acute in the 1970s and 1980s, before Treaty settlements, the revitalisation of the Maori language, and the recognition of Maori Science and Maori world views?

It is important that we understand what is causing so much harm and death in Maori families. This is because in the next 30 years there will be dramatic changes in the demographics in New Zealand.

  I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing that can be done to prevent some people from harming and killing their babies and young children.
  More money won’t stop them – either given or taken by way of fines, because what happens is never their fault.
  Life is cheap. Lose one to violence – just have a replacement.
  Not very civilised perhaps, but that is the way of life for some who are ruled by petulance, violence and immaturity.

    After the death of this baby, the woman had a second baby with the father who “accidently” killed the first baby.

  The Kirk government created the domestic purposes benefit in 1974. 1990 would be around the time that kids raised by single mothers on welfare started to become parents themselves.
  
  The DPB is the single most damaging thing any NZ government has ever done. It’s very hard for a country to get ahead when they are subsidising the production of so many children by people who are incapable of raising them properly.

    I can’t fault your analysis. But unfortunately it’s hard to imagine any government repealing that nefarious piece of legislation. Remember the outcry when the Key government tried to compel DPB mums to identify the fathers of the babies? However, if the present government is serious about reducing intergenerational welfare, they should limit the DPB to one child only per woman (with exceptions for multiple births, of course).

  From my point of view it seems to be driven by the ideology of “de-colonisation”.
  
  This makes sense, as when Māori were integrating and adopting western values (being colonised) the stats were improving.
  
  Now that they are getting back to their roots and traditional culture (de-colonisation) the stats are worsening.
  
  This should be no surprise to anyone, as child homicide was extremely common in Maori culture before colonisation. The “Nobel savage” myth.

  The “revitalising” of the Maori language is no such thing (there are no native speakers and is just forced on people top down in a condescending, annoying manner) and is doing nothing whatsoever to help the economic advancement of Maori New Zealanders. Maori did well when a) they had more job opportunities and b) there was no crap about “de-colonisation” and they adopted Western culture and c) they hadn’t been seduced by the cult of victimology

  A company I worked for in Bangkok shut up shop in November and everyone was laid off.
  One of the guys came to see me out of the blue a couple of months later in NZ. He said he became so depressed he had to leave the country for a couple of weeks.
  He’d had a pay out of thirteen months salary and he already had a job to go back to, so money wasn’t the issue, but suddenly after about 16yrs all his old workmates had scattered. He sat at home, unmotivated, watching TV eating and getting fat.

  They would never, ever cope with the job conditions and uncertainty of production, selling, market driven costs and volatile prices for produce.
  But, hey,don’t let it stop you from marching against and blaming farmers and growers for climate change.

Reports that Israel is preparing for an expected Iranian retaliation attack within the next 24-48 hours. Hospitals etc on alert. US military bases expect to be targeted. No one knows how quickly this could escalate, but if Iran hits Israel territory this will likely blow up very fast. Israel will not muck around.

Meantime, in Ukraine NATO are desperately trying to delude Zelensky into thinking he can still be saved. Speculation is rife that Ukraine will attempt something stupid on Putins inauguration day on May 7th. They need to spark something to drag NATO directly into this war.

I have zero faith in any of the leaders of western countries. None of them has any credibility nor the skills to defuse this dangerous global mess.

Backed by the US security guarantee they bribe out of US politicians, they think they can do anything they like because America is obligated to fight Israel’s wars for it. It’s like an abusive relationship: even when the US tells (or meakly suggests) them that they should pull their heads in, the Israelis ignore them and do what they want because they know they are the tail wagging the US dog.
  
  One may reasonably ask why Israel are bombing and killing Iranian diplomats in Syria, which are two countries that they are not at war with? Is this the “self-defense” pretext that they use to excuse whatever they do?
  
  They act this way because, converse to the rhetoric, Israel, not Iran, is the belligerent in the region, and they want to spark a wider conflict that they will then use America to fight for them.

        One has to ask, as I frequently do, why is it that the Jews have been “discriminated against” everywhere they’ve been and at all times?
        
        It’s a combination of two main elements:
        
        1. They see themselves as a special people deserving of special privileges and special consideration, and for much of those millennia, it was they who deliberately segregated themselves from the gentiles they lived amongst (e.g. they had their own communities with their own laws, their own institutions and so on). That is, they “othered” themselves, because they didn’t see themselves as being French, German, Dutch or whatever …… they were Jews above all else, who just happened to live in those places for the time being; relatedly
        
        2. This “separateness” caused friction with the gentiles whose cultures the Jews refused to assimilate to (in fact, even in 2024, what says “we are Jews who don’t want to assimilate to your gentile culture” louder than “we need our own Jewish nation where we can be and stay Jewish”?QED). Moreover, because of their status as being “separated” from the gentile majorities, Kings and other nobles of the time would use Jews as tax farmers, economic middle men and the like and, because Jews (unlike Christians) believed in usury, they often engaged in economic exploitation of the gentiles.
        
        Eventually, a combination of these factors (and several others) led the gentiles to deeply dislike the Jews, see them as a pernicious and subversive element, and so demand their expulsion, which occurred in hundreds of locations across Europe.
        
        That was the typical pattern of “discrimination” against the Jews.
        
        You can argue the rights and wrongs, but, as I have argued on numerous occasions, in general, Jews themselves are the principal cause of anti-semitism, because anti-semitism is a reaction to Jewish behaviour and the friction it tends to cause with gentiles, not an irrational pathological hatred with no explanation.

        Again, any collective can claim a “right to exist” – but so what? The question is can they exist as a nation, which is really a political or military question based on facts, not abstract claims to having rights.
        
        Ultimately, without the military backing and security guarantee they receive from America, Israel would not exist. This is why it’s so crucial for there to exist a disproportionately Jewish-dominated elite in the US particularly (and the West more broadly) because such an elite advances Israel’s interests. It’s also crucial that the gentile public in these places support Israel, which is why, for instance and especially, the “conservative” movement in America is so heavily Jewish and pushes Jewish and Zionist interests so incessantly.
        
        In fact, this is probably one of the reasons why KB is filled with rabid Zionists who (I assume) aren’t even Jewish. You believe what you are told to believe because it is beneficial for you to believe it.

    The Iranians the Israelis killed in Syria were the IRGC liaisons to Hezbollah. Given that Hezbollah are currently firing Iranian-made missiles at Israeli they seem to be a justified target.
    
    Note that if they had been Iranian diplomats then that would have been a whole bigger problem. But Israel was very careful to bomb the building only after the Iranian ambassador had left.

      There were objectively far fewer problems in the Middle East region before the Jews started arriving in large numbers and decided it was a nice place to set up a nation for themselves. Just one problem: other people already lived there. That’s the rub of the entire shit show. The trouble it has led to since was easily foreseeable from the outset.
      
      People like to delude themselves into thinking it is everyone except the Jews who are the cause of the conflict.
      
      Obviously, it does take two to tango in any conflict, but the genesis is the Jews imposing themselves on the inhabitants of the region: it’s not an “irrational hatred of Jews” that is the cause of the trouble, the cause is the Jews driving people out and stealing their land, then claiming it as their own as a promise from God. Everything since has been a reaction, with the Israelis consistently ignoring international law and humanitarian principles to realise their aim of a Greater Israel free of non-Jews (or at a minimum with a heavily Jewish demographic advantage). Right now, they are engaged in what will inevitably be the annexation of Gaza.
      
      Moreover, it is America’s unconditional (and bought) loyalty to Israel that has turned the Arabs against America. America used to have excellent relations with the Arab would, prior to its acknowledging Israel. Israel is a clear liability to America, not an ally with shared interests. America’s policy of fighting Israel’s wars for the last 20 or 30 years has been one of the main factors in the US’s decline over that time.

        Yes and no. They got beaten by some empire about 1000BC and mostly exiled to Babylon. They were allowed to return after a while, and allowed to build a temple and a tennis court. Then the Roman empire came along. Jews and Romans fought about 200AD and Romans won of course and exiled the Jews, Romans destroyed the temple but kept the tennis court. Pockets of Jews existed all over the Levant and Europe ever since with skirmishes and issues here and there. Get to the mid 20th century post WWII and they finally get back to where they originated.       There are two SH1 Rangitata Bridges, one over the main river and the other over the South branch. Railway bridges over both river branches are not very far from the road bridges, the one over the main river is actually very close and parallel to SH1.

  Cars used to have a “kill switch”. It was called an ignition switch, which had a key you inserted.
  
  Keyless entry was always a bad idea, from a security and safety point of view.
  
  No doubt the kill switch is for EVs, to be used in the event of Lithium Ion thermal runaway.
  
  Spoiler alert: If the battery of an EV is in thermal runaway, a kill switch has no effect.
  
  Warning: If the kill switch is anything other that a mechanical one, e.g. one that can be accessed by remote, it will be accessed and abused by the deep state.

      Other cars I had were two Alfa Romeo 1750GTV’s, a 1300 Guilia. One of my faves was a Brick Red 1978 Fiat x19-Designed by Marcello Gandini, engine by Aurelio Lampredi, Chassis by Dallara and made by Bertone. I wish I still had that one. I bought it with 10,000kms on it.

    All on Red, , That particular car is now highly sort after and good examples are very expensive,I guess you’d remember the little hardtop sports they made with I think a Renault or fiat engine rather than their 1600 ford based DOHC version,I don’t recall the name of it now but it was a fast nimble and good looking car.
    I owned a Mk2 lotus cortina for a while when I finished my apprenticeship,good examples of them go for $80k these days they were brilliant cars I repaired quite a few 7s that had a habit of breaking their rear chassis rails and you are right as they got older they were unreliable unless they were meticulously maintained.

      The little hardtop that came with a Renault engine was the Lotus Europa.
      
      To be precise, the original Lotus Europa’s came with a Renault engine & gearbox. It was a bit of a weird installation … Lotus had to rotate the whole arrangement 180 degrees so that meant they’d have had four reverse gears and one forward. So Lotus had to reverse the diff to sort that out.
      
      Later versions of the Europa were available with the same Lotus twin-cam that went into the Elan. And there were even later versions with a racing version of that motor, and then a few with the in-house Lotus 2-litre engine.

        Luckily the local Ridgecrest California cop was dating my sister so didn’t get a lot of tickets.
        
        Very distinctive looking car only 34 inches high.
        Did get called into the China Lake Police department one day because a car that looked like mine did a hit-and-run on the bushes at the Officers Club. They even read me my Miranda rights when I got to the police station!

Just one simple example –
During the covid pandemic, regardless of your views on it, was there any thorough half hour or hour programme that fully explained how vaccines work, and how the covid vaccine differed(in synthetic content and the final stage of delivery) to earlier vaccines, so viewers were able to then make a fully informed decision about their own up take of the technology, or the decisions others made or were forced to make?

That the Government then did not direct television to perform their most basic purpose of being a state entity – dispersal of information to offer unbiased vital health information – in a time recognised internationally as possibly endangering entire populations, as evidenced by New Zealand being completely shutdown.

Compared to “Compass”, “Gallery” or any other current affairs series of the 1970-80s, state television utterly failed New Zealanders.

    The point of the article is Stuff (Tova) citing Stuff (Emily Brookes) citing Newsroom about a supposed “power struggle” within the coalition and about which Peters is supposed miffed. Brookes’ Stuff article notes:
    “Asked whether the proposal had been progressed to Cabinet prematurely, Peters said: “When things happen sometimes, it’s often due to due to over-exuberance on the part of staff members, not to condemn them, and a certain stage in the process is overlooked.””
    
    That’s hardly incendiary Peters rhetoric is it? After all, he is not afraid to criticise.

  The main issue I see with these cartoon cards is the Samoan artist has no problem naming them Garbage PALE kids. Imagine the outrage if a white artist did a series of cards attacking labour ministers called Garbage BROWN kids. I get that PALE is a pun on Pail but essentially it is focussing on denigrating people of a single race.
  
  What I don’t get is why so many more recent immigrants have do much hatred towards NZ whites. Haven’t we welcomed them in and shared many of our greatest riches with them?

  Hipkins covers Labour’s arse by ordering the Labour politician to take the drawings down from social media.
  Stuff and Red Radio then put them on their web sites, ensuring the cartoons get broader viewing.
  
  A team hit. Labour gets pay-off from years of media subsidies-bribery.
  
  The cartoons are by Michel Mulipola, described on Wikipedia as an ethnic-Samoan Aucklander who does comic-book art and wrestles professionally. He’s in his 40s.

I read Simon Wilsons (NZ Herald) take on the media survey today – so you don’t have to, thank me later. I’m pleased to report he spends most of the article blaming the reader/viewer – in particular ‘angry middle class Pakeha’ and those nasty multinational social media entities stealing all their advertising revenue.

He appears to come to the conclusion the media should keep doing what they’re doing – and stop listening to those angry white people. He also suggests that most people in the industry could get much better paid work doing something else, but doesn’t elaborate on what that might be.

So all in all it’s a very positive outcome. He along with his peers remain completely deluded and there is every indication they will remain that way for some time to come, possibly right up to the moment the doors are locked when they turn up to work one morning.

  Here is an idea. Instead of begging funding from the country’s hard-working net taxpayers, and assuming these media folk are really as highly talented as Simon seems to think, then why don’t they follow the trail of ex-NBC Megyn Kelly & start their own individual podcasts on YouTube & elsewhere? That way they can start amassing revenues on social media & learn the discipline & risks of running a business. I wish them all the best.

  They almost certainly have them already, just building up the numbers until they have sufficient built into effective ballistic missiles to create an insurmountable offensive threat.
  
  It’s 1940’s tech, made vastly easier by modern machine tools, robotics, sensors, chemical and metallurgical engineering praxis and electronics.
  
  The only time to take away Irans’ nuclear weapons capabilities is now, every day that passes makes it more and more likely that it is too late, and in fact their increasing belligerence may indicate that they are already confident in their ability to hit back with overwhelming devastation.

What is the NZ Herald’s policy on showing a criminals photo. Is it part of open justice and what is their policy.

CRIMINALS PHOTO SHOWN:

June 2022 Tyrese Fleming a young driver on a restricted license killed 5 teens and was jailed. His face was shown in the article by all media.

In Sept 2023 a young canterbury learner driver, Adam Rapson appeared in court for doing crazy speeds while high, and killed an 18 year old. There are dozens of articles across media, starting in September the month she was run over and his first appearance in court, until Dec.

Today the herald reports, Fatima Mohammed, 48, driving a Honda CR-V, did not stop after running over Ian Charles Johnson with both the front and rear sets of her car’s wheels at a Hastings roundabout last June. And left the site of the crash. Killing Ian.

There are only 2 articles (stuff and the herald) . No articles from June when she committed the crime. Her photo is not shown in either article that appeared today.. Why?
