September Public Polls Newsletter

October 4th, 2008 at 5:18 pm by David Farrar

I’ve just sent out Curia’s September 2008 Public Polls Newsletter. It has an expanded section this month looking at the Canadian election on 14 October, the US election on 5 November plus of course our election on 8 November.

If you would like to receive future issues go to this website to subscribe yourself.

A slight increase in the vote to 15%, but still not as wide as it was in June and July.

The Greens are trending towards the critical 5% threshold, and NZ First also drops slightly to just over 3%.

This could be an election where the voters are quite polarised already. “Don’t know” are probably “won’t vote”, and given there are no huge upsets during the campaign, I think what you see above is going to be close to the final result giver or take 2% on Lab and Nat and 0.5-1% on the minors. Well, that’s what iPredict. heh.

    petal,

Think you are about spot on. However, it could move quite fast if another ‘devastating’ scandal is uncovered. Odds are high.

Fascinating to me that the Lefties put such great store on polls in the forthcoming Presidential election in the States.

National poll of polls shows Obama with a 6 point lead at the moment.

Should the economy get some balance, and more information about Obamas funding, and questionable views on sub-prime lending.

Then I would suggest that the game isn’t over until the fat lady sings.

My own opinion is that it might easily be an Obama scrape, however when push comes to shove Obama is black, and has no tangible policies. Polls recognise that respondents won’t declare any racism when questioned. But in the sanctuary of a polling booth, it is most likely that they will rail against the thought. Wrong, in my opinion. However middle America is fundamentally religious and racist.

Sarah Palin has connected with this huge block of support. Republicans problem is GWB’s legacy, despite the Democrats having set this whole implosion up in the start.

Then the Lefties deny the fact that they are heading for oblivion on November 8th.

Sleaze, moral turpitude, flip floping and corrosive policies.

I wonder if ACT is piggy backing off National or Rodders is actually starting to get a few sound bites across? ACT is definitly bucking the trend when looking at other major parties. Of course, within the margin of error!

The Greens are on a long term down trend since the end of 06. I wonder if that’s because they failed to get into government (even though Labour campaigned with them) or if it’s just indicative of the slide of the leftwing parties since the last election (ie: Labour is canabalising their vote)?

I think the greens are losing support for being seen as propping up an undesirable Government. Mind you, they’re between a rock and a hard place. Had they gone with principle and withdrawn Confidence and Supply, and brought the Government down, they probably would have suffered equally, if not more. Anderton, Peters, Greens and Dunne all hitched their carts to this Government, and I really would like to think that there is a cause-and-effect at play here.

It is most encouraging to see the red greens losing support. Just maybe common sense kiwis are sickened by these wasted spaces? How could any sane person vote for a Helengrad communist jellyfish ?Replace the utopian freakshow with common sense blue greens, like me.
