You just can’t help the terminally stupid
June 4th, 2009 at 3:26 pm by David FarrarSome stupidities are so good, they need more publicity.
I blogged this morning on Obama’s huge US$1.8 trillion deficit.
Sonic then commented:
Those poor republicans, they have controlled congress and the presidency for most of the last 40 years yet somehow everything is still the Dems fault.
Now Sonic obviously did not do his homework. Anyone who knows much about US politics will know the Democrats controlled the House without a break from 1954 to the Republican Revolution of 1994.
I pointed out to Sonic:
Jesus mate do you ever get sick of showing how ignorant you are? I mean I guess it is why you don’t comment under your actual name. Since 1968, Democrats have controlled the Senate for 24 out of 40 years, and the House for 28 out fo 40 years
For those interested in details the Democrats controlled the House from 1968 to 1994, and 2006 to 2008. In the Senate they had control from 1968 to 1980, 1986 to 1994, some of 2000 – 2002, and from 2006- 2008.
Sonic then responds:
What are you gibbering about David, presidents since 1969.
Richard Nixon (1969-1974) R
Gerald Ford (1974-1977) R
Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) D
Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) R
George Bush (1989-1993) R
Bill Clinton (1993-2001) D
George W. Bush (2001-2009) R
So in the last 40 years republicans have been president for all but 12 of them.
Now this is a new levelof stupidity. He does not know the difference between the Presidency and Congress. I never disupted the statement about Presidents.
Even the most ignorant students know the difference between the Presidency and Congress. But not Sonic it seems.

This must be a close tie to Sonic’s statement that a 6% 10 year government bond only pays out 6% over the 10 years, i.e. 0.6% * per annum, not 6% per year. Even my 17 year old nephew knew the correct answer to that one.
* The actual yearly rate would be slightly lower due to compounding the interest earned.

Sonic was wrong, wrong, wrong.
But was it something worth getting worked up enough over to donate an entire blog post to?
These quizzes about the American political system that you have been posting have been lovely and fun, DPF.
But those of us who are still trying to get our head around the difference between a select committee and a royal commission don’t understand the personal affront posed by sonic’s ignorance of American politics.
[DPF: Normally I don't highlight stupidity. But it was his refusal to concede he got it wrong, and even worse to then attack me for pointing out his error which warranted it]
Vote:June 4th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
DPF, I work with the intellectually handicapped, and I think that your holding one up to ridicule like this is uncalled for. Sonic is attempting to participate in normal activities, and we should be helping him join normal society, not mocking him for his inadequacies.

You’re right david, you can’t help the terminally stupid, but you have made a brave attempt to assist the terminally stupid righty wing cheer leaders here who keep trying to pin the blame for the credit crisis and financial meltdown on Clinton.
For the majority of Clinton’s presidency he faced a hostile House and Senate and the bulk of Shrub’s presidency was with a friendly House and Senate.
So Clinton was able to ride roughshod over Republican Senators and Representatives and Shrub was unable to cajole co-operation? Well, that would be right, after all Clinton was a Rhodes’Scholar, Shrub just a little bush.
[DPF: In terms of fiscal and financuial policy Clinton did way way better than Bush. Bush was an unmitigated disaster in fiscal terms. Clinton did some things wrong, but his welfare policies and fiscal policies were generally good]

Goodness, you pop out to the shops and find a whole post devoted just to little old me, shucks.
Perhaps you missed my reply David?
” As for congress I’ll give you that one technically, however the proportion of Southern Democrats who backed Nixon and Reagan gave the repubs a working majority for a lot of that time.”
Feeling upset about something today David? Oh thats right.

[DPF: And now he tries to pretend he said that in his original reply. He did not. After I said I would point his stupidity out in a post, he then did another comment]
Vote:June 4th, 2009 at 4:07 pm

MNIJ:
Good point. IMO Clinton is one of the most under-rated* Presidents of recent times. The way he handled the hostile Republican caucus, led by Newt Gingrich, during the “shutdowns” – reaching out to sensible Republicans like Bob Dole while damping the fervour of House Democrats for an all-out war – showed just how skilled he was at politics. If politics is defined as the art of skilled deal-making, Clinton was one of the best.
For those whose knowledge of the man goes no deeper than a few blog comments I’d recommened Bob Woodward’s “The Agenda”, Stanley Blumenthal’s “The Clinton Wars” and even “Power Plays” by Dick Morris (ginormous tool though he is).
* note I didn’t say “best”… we need a little more historical perspective before we can make those sorts of judgments.
Having said all that… it seems like sonic needs to be invited to the next meeting of the American Politics Appreciation Society and then “inducted”. I’ll bring the paddles, DPF, you bring the tar and feathers.

Gordon Campbell has an interesting take on Key re Worth
http://gordoncampbell.scoop.co.nz/2009/06/04/gordon-campbell-tiananmen-massacre-richard-worth/#obama
“The third dubious element has been Key’s fumbling of the events yesterday morning, when the fact of a Police investigation became public. After first disclosing the bare facts and saying there would be no further comment – ie, he would let the Police investigation proceed without political intrusion – Key then, two hours later, virtually prejudged aspects of the affair, by commenting further that if Worth hadn’t resigned as Minister, Key would have sacked him, and further indicated that perhaps Worth should consider his future within the caucus, and as an MP.
At every point, Key has either delayed taking action – for months, over Worth’s well publicized lapses of judgement – and then when action became inescapable, he delayed again lest the affair should overshadow the Budget coverage. Having promised not to comment publicly ( apparently, lest that should taint the Police investigation) he then proceeded to do so.
In other words, this has been a tawdry disaster, abysmally handled”
Of course none of this is quite as important to David as me making an error in a comment.
(edit)
No worries Bevan.

Vote:June 4th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Gordon Campbell usually writes crap and this is no exception. Key has said nothing more about the allegation the police are investigating. The previous incidents were trivial compared with this. Key sacked Worth for not keeping him informed after previous warnings to do so and after seeing evidence of continuing unsatisfactory behaviour. He has in no way tainted the police inquiry into the criminal offence allegation.

Another terminally stupid moron whose every comment here only ever proves one thing, and that is that he never really has a clue what is being discussed. I have commonly criticised the Bush administration for its failure to act in a fiscally conservative manner.
This failure though is really down to the left who have worked hard to make democracy in most western countries an unworkable farce where politicians can only get elected by agreeing to steal from the working class and give to the bludging class.
They even do it here in NZ, where the Nationals are, like the Bush government, too frightened to do what should be done because of the backlash from the loafers who have grown fat upon the largesse of the socialists.
Bil English for example, says there is no money to give tax cuts to struggling NZ families, but there is still money for these millstones around the neck of our productivity-
Hundreds of policy analysts costing close to $600 million a year
The Families Commission, which costs $8 million
The Charities Commission at $5 million
the Retirement Commission at $5.6 million
Ministry of Women’s Affairs costing $4.8 million
The Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs costing $7.5 million
The Ministry of Maori Affairs costing $179 million
Taxpayers bailing out stadium projects in Dunedin, Nelson, Christchurch, and Whangarei to the tune of $35 million
$13 million of taxpayers’ money we will be spending on the Americas Cup
Producers of big-budget film and television productions getting $35 million.
$158 million appropriated for public broadcasting services – including Television NZ and Radio NZ
$67 million spent on Maori radio and television services
$132 million that will be used to fund legal aid
$102 million of taxpayers’ money being used to fund environmental research
$550 million that has been set aside for climate change

There have been two quite detailed threads regarding that topic, and the story only broke yesterday!
Mind you why you want to talk about a topic where the PM is shown to have acted a damn sight better than his predessecor ever did when matters of impropriety have arisen boggles the mind. Billy Borker:
Oh dear. This is DPF’s blog and his rules – if you don’t like them then try this blog.
Incidentally, your points lack any substance. You don’t substantiate your comment on how this thread reveals “the paucity of DPF’s own arguments” – when even Sonic acknowledged that DPF was technically (ie factually) correct. And DPF didn’t threaten to reveal Sonic’s name – he only pointed out that Sonic posts anonymously. If you’re referring to DPF threatening to reveal your name, well that was in response to this:
Speaking of which, when are you going to reach 100 demerits? DPF still hasn’t updated the demerits page to include your second lot of demerits on 31 May. So you’ve only got 30 demerits to go. Got plans for your imminent one-month eviction from Kiwiblog?

Interesting isn’t it?
If this was the Stranded -Sonic, borker, kingi, biter etc etc would have been toast after their first couple of comments.
If this was tumeke – none of their comments would have even made it to the thread. (hows the crazy censorship action going on there?)
If this was that idiot fellas blog – you wouldn’t be able to comment at all.
But it’s not , it’s Kiwiblog, where the long suffering host has seemingly limitless patience with the ignorant troll, the racist troll and the garden variety bridge dweller trolls.
Every once in a while though boys and girls he gives you a little warning – Sonics is this thread, borker got the outting promise (that did shut you the fark up for a wee while though didn’t it borks?) kingi – well racists never prosper kingi so you might just get your own troll karma.
To sum up
Trolls – if you don’t like it, piss off.
Thanks for your time.

He doesn’t know my name Nomestradamus, to be honest I’m sure David would not reveal it but some other righties would love to know it.
Chicken, do you ever have anything useful to say other than parroting “troll, troll, troll”?

I thought the problem with American politics rests with the Senate . When there was a Democratic President I suspect the Republican majority in the Senate blocked him. The American right has been both the maintainer and destroyer of the country culminating with the immediate past president. I think one should be wary of translating one’s feelings about politics in New Zealand to America. The Republicans are far to the right of NZ’s ACT, and the Democrats are akin to what John Key appears to represent. Socialism is a dirty word in both camps, more the pity, I suppose re-inforced by the Cold War, silly really.

Republicans are fiscal conservatives, since bloody when ?
Vote:Damn it, Alaskan republican politicians boast how much money they manage to bludge from liberal states via Washington.
Republicans do not believe in welfare, again, since when ?
Funny thing is I do not hear ONE so called conservative stating that the US banks should have been allowed to fail, why ?
Much like here where we have a Nat PM who believes that Aussie trading should be guaranteed in NZ by the NZ taxpayer, why ?
Want purity in your conservative views, at least try to live by them.

Gee Kingi/Tane – it took you a while to get in behind sonic on this thread. Two and a bit hours. Has sonic not delivered any new union members this week, or have you two had a wee spat over who to vote for in Mt Albert? Ideology can be such a bitch when you’re a socialist.

I’m sure everyone has their favourite recollection of Sonic stupidity. Mine comes from several years ago when he was on Kiwiblog defending yet another deliciously indefensible act of the far-Left.
In the process of following links he had provided, I came across this little gem from a blogsite writing about Kuwait enfranchising woman; que Sonic:
Hilarity ensues:
Poor Sonic. His come back was the following:
….or history, science, technology, political science, reading,……..humans!
He’s absolutely gagging for someone to debate Das Kapital with though.

I was just watching a bit of telly with my wife when I just burst out laughing. Much to the bemusement of my wife.
Vote:You see on screen was this little scottish terrier running after this man trying to have a bite of his bum. But too short he cant make it.
The guy swats him away without hurting him, but the little thing just kept trying. My wife wanted to know why I found it so funny but I was laughing so hard all I could get out was :”Sonic” Unfortunately lost on her, but man it was funny.

Ok, I suppose I can assume from 24 hours of silence that the blog mobile is being sponsored by the same people that sponsored John Key’s 42 below event. So I guess it will be declared as part of the National party’s Mt Albert campaign spend?
[DPF: You're an paranoid idiot. I didn't even see your earlier comment - if you have a question then email it to me. The main sponsor is Barrons who supplied the blogmobile last time. They then realised that the VnC one wasn't needed during the time we wanted one, so with VnC permission we borrowed their one.
I have no idea if VnC ever sponsored a John Key event.]
