Manolo, I’m sure Key isn’t a socialist in the ideological sense. He’s just worked out that pandering to various factions under the thinly disguised veil of ‘social justice’ is a means of increasing his power base. So say good-bye to principles, and hello the pragmatism of power.

Of course the media would have a field day with Trev the muss, that is the entire point.

At the moment Goff could save seven orphans from seven burning houses and he would not attract any media attention, as far as the MSM are concerned Goff = boring.

Labour are going to lose the next election come what may, and, like many I suspect that Andrew Little will be the one to lead the Labour party into the 2014 election, however, Little’s job can be made immeasurably easier by Labour polling a lot better than they are now.

Mallard will win you back some working class votes, Goff is losing them in their hundreds with each passing week.

I will take your word for it that you have a “job”, the ‘bludger’ tag belongs with you because you think it is the tax payers job to look after the kids of dads who feel they have been wronged by the courts, you think it is OK for a father to walk away from his financial responsibilities to his kids and let the tax payer pick up the tab.

8.4% Phool?

Been on the backy tonight have you?

The last poll I had a look at had the Greens at 4.6%, even if I take what you say as the truth (dangerous to do given that you almost always talk shit) then the up one month and down the next polling of the Greens must give you some cause for concern.

The Greens are effectively finished with the departure of the native bush burner Phool, there is nobody in that party who now grabs the publics attention, I cannot wait until election night in 2011 when they are finally kicked out of the house for good.

I’m not one of the many, BB. I think Silent T might roll Goof either before or just after 2011. While I agree Little is respected I don’t think Liarbore will give the mantle to him quite that soon. After Silent T self-implodes for ego reasons before 2014, the redoubtable Shane Jones will seize the day. I think Little will become a Senior Member of the 6th Liarbore Govt in 2017 and Shane Jones will become the First Maori PM. Personally I don’t think Little will ever become Leader, although I think that he thinks he will.

I suspect there are far too many skeletons in Shane Jones closet for him to ever make it as far as PM or leader.

The real battles that Goff/Mallard/Silent T or Little have to fight are the various factions within the party, the rainbow group, the unions and the femenazi types all have their own idea as to who should be the boss, sorting that lot out will take some power of doing.

OK, Goof and Mallard are history, let’s assume.

Little already has the Unions sown up and possibli the woofters as well. The only ones who can sew up the feminazis are other feminazis so that means none of them can do that.

Shane Jones however can bring Maori back into the fold and no-one else can. I think that’s his trump card.

Surely Little has to do some parliament time before he’s a serious contender. I can understand Nationalites wanting him in sooner, it will ensure Labour are a term at least away from getting power.

Mallard has said it’s not for him and I believe him on that, it doesn’t make sense anyway.

I’d be surprised if Goff keeps going much after the next election. Someone else has to come out of nowhere. Or Labour will keep going nowhere.

reid… no like National before Key… Labour has no Leaders to inspire the people in their existing caucus… to do so will be the death nail for Labour… and Little won’t wait in the wings tell 2017 … he has to strike while labour still has ambers.. not when it’s ice cold.. Shane Jones, Silent T wash your mouth out.. Little needs to give them all the boot and fast.

That’s my thinking as well Pete. I’m also not sure he’s got what it takes to be the Leader. He doesn’t seem to me, so far, to have the killer instinct, but I may be wrong. Key and Clark have it, English doesn’t, Jones has, Goff doesn’t, Silent T has but he’s a silent T and people who watch politics already know it and it won’t take 5 mins for the reef-fish to work it out – hoist by his own petard.

Well that’s a shame for them RK because their caucus is all the leaders they have. I wasn’t suggesting Little would be meekly waiting in the wings but he needs to be blooded and become seasoned and that’s going to take time.

Key’s performance in becoming leader shortly after starting politics and then taking PM is utterly atypical and I think it was a combination of highly auspicious circumstance combined with right person right time and huge dollop of luck. To imagine another political novice could replicate the same miraculous rise in the same timeframe isn’t IMO realistic and that’s what you’re suggesting if you say Little could become PM in 2014.

I may well be wrong, time will tell.

Jones doesn’t have Maori voter support now, but that’s not to say he won’t get it in the future, and he’d get it by bringing the Maori Party into a coalition. The reason why the MP went with National is because Turia hates Clark’s/Liarbore’s guts and Key was smart enough to exploit that, but once Turia moves into retirement that enmity disappears and the Maori Party will return to being a more neutral player. Except they will have had several terms in power and will understand what that does and they will be willing to compromise a lot, in order to get a continuation with that. By that time, the feminazis and the gays will be much less of an influence than they are now in Liarbore and they will have repositioned themselves as the workers/blue-collar/union/minority representatives.

Little will be critical in that role but so will Jones, because the Unions and the Maoris will have an approximately equal voter base. Between Jones and Little, I call no contest in favour of Jones, in terms of political leadership skills, and by that I mean, the street-smarts that are necessary to scrap it out in politics. Sure, Little is a nice guy that every parent would love to see their daughter bring home, but that counts for nothing in the political bear-pit. I’m not saying Little is a complete wimp, but compared to Jones, he IS a babe in the woods.

So as I said above, I would see Little by 2017 holding the deputy PM role in the 6th Liarbore govt, but would be real surprised, unless Jones self-immolates, to see him in the top job.

I certainly wouldn’t back a Little Labour until – unless – he proved himself. And that could take quite a bit due to his background, I don’t want a “union” orientated government. I can understand the need for unions and a push for workers rights a century ago, but the country and the world has changed a lot and moved on from those times. We need to get more individual responsibility back.
