Conchords song shoots to No.1

August 27th, 2012 at 1:00 pm by David Farrar

The Dom Post reports:

A fundraising comedy event featuring a new single has raised more than $1.3 million for medical research for children.

The Red Nose Day: Comedy for Cure Kids on Friday raised $1.3 million and exceeding Cure Kids’  expectations.

The Conchords wrote the song Feel Inside (and Stuff Like That)  especially for the event and it was sung by a cast of singing stars.

The song and album went to No.1 on iTunes within 90 minutes. …

The event at Auckland’s Q Theatre was hosted by 7 Days’ stars  Jeremy Corbett and Paul Ego and featured celebrities, politicians and sports stars including the All Blacks.

The Conchords’ single is available on iTunes, with proceeds going to Cure Kids.

The video below is very cool. It shows the conchords talking to kids at Clyde Quay School (where me niece Sabine goes) and then using their words in the songs. One of the classic responses is when a five year old is asked where money comes from and he says banks get it from the Prime Minister. Then asked where the PM gets it from, he says he gets it from the Queen. Then asked where she gets it from, he said “the banks”. Heh the five year old just summed up our financial system :-)

The video above shows the background to the song in traditional conchords fashion, and then teh song itself. A great song for a great cause.

Thats nice..1.3 million. But does anyone else think the conchords are overrated? Personally , I cant see what all the who- haa is about..their music is below average and they would be hard pressed to wear the title comedians.

Best 14 minutes and 3 seconds I’ve spent in a long time. Very touching, and a great collaboration. That song is going to go nuts.

I am with liarbors a joke.
The 5-10 minutes that I have seen on the conchords, I did not think they were that funny and the music seemed basic
Perhaps it’s just me. Maybe I need to immerse myself deeper into them

Then again I didn’t think Mike King was that great either. He seemed to say fuck a lot and laugh at his own jokes and everyone thought that was funny

Fotc are very clever. They get how cringe inducing NZ comedy can be and understand the understated NZ sense of humor. The songs are a vehicle for humor and while on their own are average, are delivered in a very funny way. Not for everyone but I find them very funny.

So great, I saw this first on YouTube without the introduction and it made a lot less sense (“John stop spending all the money on couches”??) but was still funny!

Is there a separate iTunes chart for NZ or is it the worldwide iTunes chart that they’re #1 on?
