RIP

Poor Terry Schiavo has died, no doubt unaware her dying has been the most publicised event in recent history. At least she is in peace now.

The fighting continues as the family accuses the husband, or I suppose widower, of not allowing them to be with her when she died. The debate has polarised US society with conservatives split on the issue, but also unusual allies with Ralph Nader and Jesse Jackson strongly supporting the efforts to keep her alive.

And Pope John Paul II has been given the last rites, indicating he also will soon be no longer suffering. I am not Catholic, but I have always respected the charismatic leadership he brought to the Church, and his inspirational role in Poland especially. I suspect history will record him as one of the most influential Pontiffs in modern times.
