John Hughes

The NZ Herald has a nice story about the crims and police who attended the funeral of John Hughes – literally a legend in Auckland policing.

The stories about him remind me of Inspector Frank Burnside of The Bill. You didn’t always approve of his methods but you were glad he was catching the crims!

The story of how he first met John Banks when he arrested someone hiding under the then teenage Banks’ bed is a classic.
