Today’s announcement was a great honour with significant responsibility in an increasingly complex and diverse society, she said.

Ever wonder how the tradition of putting an angel on top of your Christmas tree got it’s start? It’s not as magical as you may think.

When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the pre-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor.
In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.
He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.
Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, “Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?”
And thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

It is alright when Peter’s bends the truth to capture votes from National and other Parties but when other with the belief that this immigration policy that Winston and the Coalition have signed portray it as a sign of giving away our right to select who we want in this Country he turns out to be a crybaby as his voters have turned on him calling the Messiah a traitor and other names. Let’s hope he chokes on his Christmas celebration and finally wakes up to the fact that he is well past his use by date.

      Went to bed early last night and woke up at around 2am. Tuned into Newstalk ZB talkback and could believe the torrent of anti NZ First / Peters comments. Party faithful are leaving in droves. Must not forget Ardern who also received a kicking.
      
      If this is an indication of NZ First’s popularity Peters might as well stay away on his launch and continue fishing until he retires.
      
      Signing the global migration agreement has been the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
      
      The host – Bruce Russell – also strongly believes that there is a connection with Ardern and the drug dealer who is going to be deported and that ILG has been given instructions.

  Missing in action is the MSM, who like to delude themselves they hold the powerful to account.
  
  If that were true, why hasn’t there been even one single article analysing Winston Peters’ about-face on the UN migration compact, the incredible reaction from NZF supporters which is threatening to break NZF apart, and the repercussions for the Coalition Govt & Labour should NZF support plummet to 1-2%?
  
  Will Labour still have a mandate to govern (it was bad enough that virtually all public polls since the 2017 election had NZF around the 5% mark or under – what now, now that their support would have to be lower)?
  
  And why the secrecy of NZ signing the UN migration compact and why did Winston support it ….. Winston supporting it would be as unlikely as James Shaw and the Greens calling for the resumption of coal mining on the West Coast and building new coal power stations.
  
  It just doesn’t add up!
  
  All in the same week in which Winston allowed the COL Govt to stiff the Singapore govt over basing some of their fighter jets here for training purposes and set back NZ-Singapore relations.
  
  Again this too just doesn’t add up!
  
  Meanwhile where are the pathetic MSM?

      I don’t think Winston plans to stand again at the next election. I think he is just coasting along enjoying the baubles until then. I also think he doesn’t really give a toss about what happens to NZ 1st afterwards, so look for a last minute announcement of his intention to retire just before lists are due. As to why he agreed to go along with the UN pact – remember that refugees are what Jacinda cares absolutely the most about – she is just desperate for us to to have more of them so that we can enjoy the same benefits of multiculturalism that the UK is experiencing right now.     I believe that this refers the police habit of proclaiming the credit for any reduction in the road toll over a specified period and denying any responsibility for any increases.
    
    Their behaviour fits very well that classic definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting a different result each time. Though to be fair, there are a number of scientific experiments founded on just this principle, like looking for the decay of a proton (average life of a proton is, in some theories, expected to be finite but > 10^35 years).

      Most of the speed cameras are in the city. People really don’t speed all that much on the open road in busy holiday traffic. They can get a lot more money by going after those doing 54 on urban main roads.

On Saturday (I believe the first full day of the 4km tolerance) in my travels across Auckland I passed 4 patrol cars with their lasers out for anyone over 104km, but paying no attention to the idiots driving at 70-80km for no reason on straight stretches of motorways creating rolling traffic jams…

During the televised hearings, which lasted three days, Anita F. Hill, who then taught at the University of Oklahoma’s law school, detailed allegations of workplace sexual harassment by Judge Thomas, who was her supervisor at two government agencies. And Judge Thomas forcefully denied the accusations, claiming they played into stereotypes of black men.

The astonishing testimony aired Ms. Hill’s accounts of crude behavior and vulgar language, the likes of which had never before been discussed in the buttoned-up hearing rooms of the United States Senate. The Senate Judiciary Committee’s dismissive treatment of Ms. Hill by the all-male, all-white Senate Judiciary Committee empowered a wave of women to run for state and national office.

Ms. Hill said that Judge Thomas had repeatedly asked her to go out with him in a social capacity and would not take no for an answer. She said he would talk about sex in vivid detail, describing pornography he had seen involving women with large breasts, women having sex with animals, group sex and rape scenes.

Judge Thomas would also talk about his own “sexual prowess” in workplace conversations, Ms. Hill said. And he once mentioned a pornographic film whose star was called “Long Dong Silver,” which turned into an infamous name in American political lore.

“It would have been more comfortable to remain silent,” she said. “But when I was asked by a representative of this committee to report my experience, I felt that I had to tell the truth. I could not keep silent.”

After Ms. Hill’s opening statement, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr.*, the Delaware Democrat who was then chairman of the committee, began questioning her on the specific locations of her harassment allegations. She mentioned the “incident of the Coke can,” which — as she had described a half-hour earlier — involved Judge Thomas asking her who had put pubic hair on his can of cola.

Mr. Biden asked, “Can you describe it, once again, for me please?”

After a sigh, Ms. Hill did. ….

Trump’s decision to pull out of Syria and Afghanistan in another universe and with a media with even a modest amount of common sense, would be seen to be a sensible move. Isis is now defeated, they have no caliphate, they have no land. Afghanistan is a backward country of warring Muslim tribes that absolutely hates foreign occupation, no matter how nice you might try to be with them.
  
  So pulling out of those countries, given that the USA has spent $6 trillion on Middle East intervention and however many lives, makes a lot of sense.
  
  And it is a sad reflection on your power of reason that you compare Trump to Hitler when he is pulling out of countries rather than occupying them 🙂

      SGA– Fair comment. My small dig at slightly righty is because I am trying to promote truth in advertising. Is slightly righty is even slightly right of centre we would have heard from him some even slightly right of centre opinions. Now he can feel free to contradict me here – but his opinions are generally left of centre.
      
      It’s a little bit like the CNN news channel. They bring in a commentator like Anne Navarro and label her a Republican commentator. This gives the appearance of balance on their panel. But she always bashes Donald Trump, bashes the Republicans and never has a good word to say about anyone on the right. So she never says a conservative thing, she never says a right of centre thing.
      
      So if someone is even slightly on the right then they should be having some right of centre opinions at some point.

        I get that you would see me as being on the left, and I guess I am left of you. I would place myself as Right of Center. I am, for the record, Anti Union, Pro Euthanasia, Pro Military, Pro Charter Schools, Anti Government Regulation regarding the RMA.
        
        As far as Climate Change is concerned, I do not believe the science is settled.
        
        I believe that we have gone too far in pandering to special interest groups. The Metoo movement, the divisions of Gender and the modern interpretations of Gender, and Gender Politics seem to bee some sort of bad Monty Python Sketch.
        
        I abhor snowflakes, and despise political correctness. I believe in the Free Market and Believe that Government Intervention and Regulation distorts a market driven result.
        
        I believe that Tertiary Education Institutions, and state education in general, has been taken over to a large extent by Leftist Interest, and this is a fundamental danger that must be addressed.
        
        I believe in socialised Healthcare, which should be properly funded, but not extravagantly so, and believe that Public and Private healthcare can co-exist.
        
        I believe the 2nd Amendment in the US is a deeply flawed and misunderstood document that has no place in a modern society.
        
        I believe that the worst oppression of minorities comes from their own leaders who profit from perpetuating the myth that they are oppressed while presenting themselves as some sort of saviour. To a certain extent, we see this from Donald Trump.
        
        I believe that those I might disagree with politically, can be led by great leaders, and I believe that my political allies, can be led by cretins.

    Actually, for the record, I am Pro Early intervention. If the likes of Churchill had been listened to earlier, who knows what would have happened in 1939.
    
    The roots of the 2nd World War can be traced to the end of the first, when a punitive approach to peace saddled the German People with a debt that created such ill feeling and Hardship that a continuation of the great war was predicted by many.
    
    Fortunately, this mistake was not repeated by the Western Powers at the conclusion of WW2, However, the failure of the Eastern European states can be laid at the feet of the Allied powers who sued for peace.
    
    Churchill, again was prescient there with his Iron Curtain speech, and generals such as Patton were aware of the incompatibility of Stalinist Russia and the desire for freedom among the liberated people, and the withdrawl from Eastern Europe subjected those on the wrong side of the wall to 30-40 years of tyranny, and the rest of the world to a cold war whose effects we still see today.
    
    Isis is not defeated, and believing so simply because Trump says so is blinkered thinking at best. That part of the world is a mess, and while leaving it to self destruct might be the least expensive option, the half hearted approach employed by previous administrations followed by a premature removal of forces simply leaves fertile ground for a resurgence of insurgents.
    
    It won’t end well, and Mattis has tried to warn us, just a Churchill and Patton did 70 years ago.

      Slightly righty – I am happy to be corrected. I would agree with many of your positions such as anti-political correctness. I look forward to seeing your future posts.
      Regarding the situation following World War II people can say well the allies shouldn’t have withdrawn from Europe because that allowed the soviet union to set up the Iron Curtain and its various communist dictatorships. However a reading of the biographies about Churchill, including the latest one, show that Churchill was very realistic about the impossibility of doing much at all about Soviet power.
      
      The sad fact of the matter is that the Soviet union had an army of literally millions of troops in Europe at the end of World War II. It is extremely unlikely that the combined British Empire and United States forces could have dislodged them, even if they wanted to.
      
      Regarding the present day situation in Syria, the sad fact of the matter is that the region is full of bad actors. If US troops stayed there they would be likely to be sucked into the many conflicts in that region of the world.
      
      Secondly the only real question is timing. Trump is saying we’re going to pull out of Syria now and we’re pulling out of Afghanistan soon. For those who disagree the question is, when do you think the Americans should pull out of Syria and Afghanistan? Given there is no plausible endgame given by those who generally oppose Trump, the president of the United States is probably correct in thinking that if he listened to his advisers, American troops would still be there by the end of his first term and indeed by the end of his 2nd term (if he gets a 2nd term).
      
      The Americans are sick of their boys dying in endless wars. Trump is pulling out of endless foreign wars, which is what he promised on the campaign trail, and he is fulfilling that promise.

        I believe Trump has seen the writing on the war about Syria. Isis has largely been defeated. Islam jihad will always be with us and Turkey has had to deal with the Kurds, the remnant of the Ottoman Empire. Turkey aspires to that mantle so their mutual co-existence is not easy.
        The Americans have holed up with the Kurds in the Northern 1/3 of Syria so are faced now with what to do? There have been international peace conferences taking place for months with Russia, Turkey, Syria all participating. The Americans have had their invitation too. The aim is now with Isis largely out of the way to rebuild Syria. That is reasonable considering the bombed out mess that remains.
        If the the Americans stay it seems likely that they may get caught in a Turkey-Kurd war with the possibility of firing on Russians unintentionally. Military on site may take a less than generous view.
        
        It is understood that American based corporates have already captured Syrian oil rights through occupation so the USA has little to lose by a graceful exit. Some professional warriors and their suppliers may be irritated at loss of work opportunities but peace at Christmas is good.

      The drawback is, that to oppose ISIS, Obama chose to support with money and weapons, an array of Al Qaeda affiliates as well as perhaps the only geneuinely possibly pro-US grouping in the Middle east apart from Israel, the Kurds.
      
      ISIS doesn’t hold significant territory, and the main force preventing the last remnants being wiped out is the US led coalition who don’t want Assad (and Iran & Russia) to win.
      
      It is time to face up to an uncomfortable truth, the US policy started by Obama in Syria has basically failed; and Assad has essentially regained control of the majority of the country supported by Russia who were, as usual, far more astute. Putin basically ate Obama’s lunch as and when he wanted to, so why should Trump have to hew to this failed policy ? I believe Trump in this case is correct, declare a victory (no matter how improbable) and get out with dignity while you can.
      
      If you think the US should stay, you need to come up with a valid strategy and describe what you think might represent a real victory. Don’t use a perfectly sensible decision simply as a means to attack Trump.

Fuck I hate Xmas shopping…..

The missus was busy over the weekend packing all the stuff we need to take up to the bach at Tindals, so she gave me a list about a mile long of what to get from the Supermarket.

I headed over to New World with a color-copy of the mother-in-laws *Disability Card* on the dashboard so I could get a spot near the entrance. Bugger me, every bloody Disabled Park was full. Ended up having to park over the other side of the complex. The only consolation was, at least this time I didn’t need to get out of the car looking like a spazz.

Made my way into the store and it was absolutely chokka. Noticed a lot of Asians in the Produce Dept squeezing the fruit and putting it back, so decided I’d get the fruit and veges elsewhere. I pulled about 50 meters of those plastic bags off the roll and hid them under my free copy of the Property Press in the bottom trolley. They come in handy on the boat for any rubbish, or for picking up dog-shit off the beach.

It must have taken me at least 45 minutes to get most of the stuff on the list before heading for the checkouts. They’ve got 6 aisles there, as you might expect on the busiest fucking day of the year, two of them were closed

I end up standing in a queue of 4 other trolley loads. It take about another twenty minutes before the woman in front of me finally gets all her stuff on the conveyor and places the little block thing between us.

Just before I start to unload, I have a quick glance around at the crowd. Standing right behind me is an old lady leaning on a walking stick, clutching a loaf of sliced bread…..I ask her, “Is that all you’ve got?” She smiles and nods. I tell her, “You might me better off going to another checkout, I’m going to be quite a while”.

Recycling! Many years ago Penn and Teller had a TV series called ‘Bullsh*t” and in one episode they showed how in leftist California, people have to put out 7/8 different recycling bins. Anyhow they looked into the economics of the industry and it is only profitable to reuse the metals. So why don’t we just burn/incinerate everything else? The things we put out in our yellow bins can’t be recycled and they have to pay people to remove it or it stuffs the machines (apparently a common occurrence), making it even less economic when investigated.

      Whether or not that is possible will depend on the design of the Huntley furnaces.
      
      They don’t just burn piles of coal. They first grind the coal into powder and blow it into the furnace. If you watch the flames you would swear they’re burning gas.
      
      To switch fuels to waste is a non-trivial engineering exercise and will depend on the actual design.

I would like her to be brutalised through repeat runs of Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas, as I was as a teenager. Over, and over, and over again. It was something I loathed as a child but now I view quite fondly.

While I’m on the topic of recycling a friend of mine sent me a pic yesterday of a piece of paper he picked up out on the street. He was outside and it was yellow bin night in Chch and he walked out to the road to put an empty milk container in his bin and there was his neighbour chucking scores of loose sheets into his bin, but it was gusting and a few blew away on him, so my friend, which the paper blew towards bent down and picked them up for him and he glanced at the contents and was titled, “The importance of relationships with Maori and Pacifika students.” He quickly kept this sheet but handed two other bits back to his late 30s neighbour, who was embarrassed. Anyway, making comment with his neighbour “That’s alot of paper”etc and his neighbour told him that was just this year’s teaching curriculum and that he was sick of all the nonsense and was changing careers next year. It really is worse than we think.

  If teachers stuck to teaching instead of trying to manipulate society they might be happier. I think I would be happier knowing that I had taught my class how to – oh, write well constructed sentences – than have waffly sessions on Maori /Pacifika relationships.
  Why don’t teachers simply tell their students to get on with their learning, mind their manners, live and let live, etc?

      That’s politics. Not maths, grammar, spelling.
      
      The Left has turned the NZ public education system into an indoctrination machine. Teachers by themselves have introduced compulsory learning of Maori language, but most teachers are ignorant in mathematics and slow in general language skills. They want to teach Maori but can’t teach English, currently the world’s premier language.
      
      The answer is more non-State schools, and more choice for parents.

      Very strange since elsewhere it is described as flying in a way that suggested that the owner was familiar with the airport, and buzzing the comtrol tower close enough for people to describe it in sufficient detail for them to ascertain the make. What is more likely is that once a drone had been reported there were many reports some of which were false or imagined and this has made the job of tracking the source more difficult.

        By releasing their names all those who had alibi’s for the couple were able to immediately come forward. The process was cut much shorter, and the couple were able to be sent home much earlier than otherwise. So far as the tabloids go, well they have their Stuffed and Horrid shrills the same (or even worse probably) as here. We can’t account for the taste of those that subscribe sorry.
        
        If the names had been suppressed, they may still have been in a cell waiting for everyone to wake up.

        Surely you can’t just go locking people up on a hunch otherwise they could lock up every drone owner in the area and sit back and see what happens.
        In this particular instance they must have had a reason to suspect them. Whatever it was was extremely flimsy seeing as they’re not even sure the offending drones even existed.

The Australian government claims there is no distinction between legal and illegal migrants, particularly regarding welfare; the compact could impose obligations to support migrants even when they have returned to their country of origin; and the Australian government believes that the compact would undermine their current migration policies.

The Australian people and New Zealand have historically and culturally been said to be closely related.

So New Zealand has signed the Compact but Australia has not.
Can Winston explain that – not with some glib throwaway line, but a convincing reason for the difference.

I see those people that were arrested for flying drones around Gatwick Airport have been let loose again.
Not only that the police let slip that there may never have been any drones. This seems extraordinary.

So despite massive costs and interventions locally in Indonesia they can’t tell you a wave is about to ruin your weekend , while globally how much is being stolen by gubmints in taxes pretending to go to stopping the temperature rising .

Surely the UN and politicians would be better employed trying to create civil society in those shit holes instead of telling us not to use plastic bags at the check out ?

    This is a true comment, even if the buoys were in full working order, the warnings would have been probably too short to have been much use. Anak Krakatau (the volcanic island that has appeared in the caldera of what was the island of Krakatoa) is a very short distance from the affected sites on Java and Sumatra, and Tsunami waves travel very fast in deep water.
    
    Would better than nothing of course, especially for sites further away.

  I had a chuckle. This great nation of Qatar spent over USD 2 billion dollars in the first two years of the attack in Syria on the legitimate government. They continued funding the uprising in another sovereign state and use their Al Jizzera to jizz all over the world with lies and truth contortions.
  
  The bastards have no friends and yet the soccer world goes to this over-cooked shit hole for the 2022 FIFA world cup because FIFA top dogs (and dogs they are, in the basest sense) took bribes to host the event there.
  
  Perhaps they could have spent some of that bribery and insurgency dosh on some monitoring equip for their moozlem cousies in Indonesia ! Ah, silly me.
  
  I did not watch much of it for the fear of being tainted. All Jizz TV is almost 100% propaganda from this Absolute Monarchy run by an Emir, with zero democracy, under Sharia Law.

    filling of very stewed chopped cabbage, finely chopped sweated onion, and chopped hard-boiled egg….. wrapped in an eggy, fatty bread dough.
    
    After 24 hours the filling seems to be a fermented mix of thiols and methane…. pretty explosive stuff, but ever so tasty.

Keeping Stock

I’m about to log off for Christmas, and spend some time dealing with people face to face, which is one thing I don’t particularly enjoy!

I wish everyone on Kiwiblog, and especially DPF and his family the most blessed Christmas, and a successful and prosperous 2019. However you celebrate Christmas, and whatever you believe, take some time to reflect on the year that’s almost over. I’m certainly finishing the year in a far better place than I began it, and for now, the Black Dog is back in his kennel.

Interesting thought, if you are a landlord, can you prove you have insulation in your property? If a tenant could remove all of the insulation in a day and then claim you never put any in, do you have any evidence to contradict them? An unscrupulous tenant could make quite a bit of money for very little work.

      Persia was simply the Greek name for the place. The Iranians decided they wanted to define themselves in Farsi , their own language rather than referring to themselves from a Greek perspective.

Over at Stuff, Joel Maxwell’s final column again reveals his non-understanding of why people learn languages and are unlikely to learn his favoured language.

Those who disagree with his opinions suffer from “limited moral or intellectual or emotional capacity”, are “barely New Zealanders” and should “head off to some other country”.

He repeats the partial canard that Maori language was beaten out of students by the system – no, if it were such a valuable taonga, parents would have passed it on and children used it at home, regardless of what happened at school.

Pakehas have an obligation to keep the language alive by funding it more (where does he think funding for Maori language education comes from now?) and by speaking it themselves, but he provides no realistic incentive for non-Maoris to learn and use it. He twice notes the lack of speakers but fails to connect that with the lack of interest in learning it.

Learning Maori is a gift and he wants to give people a chance to learn it, but then he wants compulsory Maori in school, so which is it – gift, opportunity or compulsion?

Maxwell was committed enough to Maori language to give up his job for a year’s immersion in the language. Good for him – I mean that sincerely – but most of us don’t share his particular language priorities.

  We regularly hear of Maori demanding that even people in other countries not use anything vaguely Maori.

    There is no one Maori language or culture. The tribes are all from different places and it shows in their cultural greetings. It is only in recent years that a standard pronunciation has been enforced.
