Same old Mark, they said. He stopped for morning tea at one firm. He sold a tap. He got out a scratch on a sink.   Not at all disappointed. Anna Leask is a puppet of the police, never expect her to face unpalatable facts, her info flow might dry up. She has said she will continue to call Lundy a double killer until the courts say otherwise, but this is defamation, she does not understand this. Of course she gets away with it.

      No but false statements when they have been explained to the writer are defamatory. To be correct is a defence, but in Leask’s case I took the trouble to inform her, and she restated the lies to me, declaring the intention to continue defaming Lundy. Of course she is a member of the pathetic and craven media, not worthy trying to help. There are a few who are quite fascinated by the proof of innocence but can’t get anything past the publishers.

        This is a sinister prediction at every level, accurate, yet one of “they” is chief justice appointee. They had 170 pages of information proving the innocence of Mark Lundy but went right ahead with a false concoction. They know what they did and so incredibly it appears does the prime minister. I guess I will try to engage Simon Bridges with the facts in this debacle, but will expect the same obfuscation and fanatical devotion to this disgraceful justice system from a jaded prosecutor.
        
        The aforementioned analyst has volunteered his services to fully expose this fraud from a safe distance, free from the editorial constraints imposed on a pathetic local media. He is particularly interested as he and his team have access to every photograph, statement, police notebook, and decades of research. Every entry will be triple checked out of fairness to those due to be illuminated. The backing documentation to be produced if necessary. This takes time but is a certainty for the appeal board to look forward to and contemplate how it may or should affect their careers later in the year.

      Interestingly enough I know quite a few people who had business dealings with Lundy before he butchered his wife and child. They all use more or less the same description of him “fat sleazy prick” or some version of that.
      Anyway they noted he was fairly aggressive as a salesman but there was an air or desperation around his attempts to flog off his sinks in the year or so before he killed his wife and child with a tomahawk.

So now that we have come to the end of an interesting year, what will the coming year bring for our political landscapes, and the Tragics (yes, I include myself in that description) that pay a lot of attention to what goes on.

The Battlelines this year will be interesting. National has made great headway on Housing and Immigration. The signing of the UN compact will keep immigration in the headlines. National has never been anti immigration, but has never seen immigration as a form of Charity. The unfettered influx of refugees has always created a problem. A managed process helps guarantee a positive outcome but the European Free for All that has happened in the past decade has been a disaster, especially when coupled with the orchestrated campaign to silence dissent.

National must continue to be a reasoned voice in opposition to this ideology.

Education will be a major battleground this year. The Reforms postulated by Hipkins at the behest of Unions look to have pissed everyone off. National need to come up with a cogent and effective education strategy.

Kiwibuild is now widely recognized as a pipedream at best, and an unmitigated failure at worst.

Education is the single best investment that we can make as a country. An educated population is healthier, more likely to be employed, law abiding and generally happier. The end result will be a lower social spend in the long term. Our Dole Queues, Benefit Offices, hospital Beds and Prisons are full of people who have passed through an education system that had no focus on outcomes.

Our Health system is starting to deteriorate again as the government has removed reporting targets. Michael Woodhouse needs to get ready for the second half of the year.

The Pike River Re-Entry will be keenly watched.

Finally. The Economy. If Grant Robertson isn’t quietly shitting himself, then he doesn’t have a clue. John Key and Bill English masterfully led us through the GFC. I do not have the same confidence in Robertson.

      We have the push on for Maori education in STEM – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
      
      A Stuff article is talking about something called “Puhoro” strategy for this – “based on Maori principles”.
      
      The report says “its ambassador is NASA engineer Mana Vautier and it’s being backed by Massey University.”
      
      Massey – the flake home of kapa haka and social sciences. And one of more than 15,000 NASA employees. This is laughable.
      
      If you want a worthwhile modern edcuation cut back the kapahaka. Cut back the Maori language studies. Cut back the political indoctrination. There is not time, resources, finance, staff for all. The choice is modern education or indigenous subjects.
      
      Maths and English are core in modern science technology. NZ education in the first is very poor, and in the second is deteriorating fast.
      
      Maori culture is the wrong and opposite target if you want to prepare children for success in the modern world.

  At some point the media are going to realise that what the Left call ‘nine years of neglect’ was actually pretty good economic management by the Key/English mob.
  
  We were steered through the GEC and the earthquakes with no reduction in benefits to the worse off, no strikes, no great unrest.
  
  Contrast that to the mob in power at present – gifted a strong economy, but seemingly hell-bent on destroying that gift.

I see the fun police in Wellington have managed another shutdown. Its all the fault of the store owner that stupid people can’t behave.

A central city liquor store considered one of the most high-risk in Wellington has had it’s opening hours slashed by more than four hours a day.

Capital Liquor on Manners St, which has long had a closing time of 10.30pm, will now be required to shut up shop at 6pm after a failed appeal with the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority (ARLA).

The judgement upheld a previous decision by the Wellington City District Licensing Committee (DLC) to have the outlet’s hours permanently reduced seven days a week.

For example – they show Port Hedland hitting 50’C this week on their graphic. A wee search of the weather shows it getting nowhere near it tho. More like mid 30s.

    There was another article about Fox glacier (newshub i think) where it showed a pic from 2009 and another from this year, showing how much it had retreated in that time. They carefully didn’t mention climate change at all, but included links to other climate change stories (obviously implying the retreat is down to global warming). They included comments from unnamed sources (so tourists, i guess) about how it looks like it’ll be gone in 10 years, that sort of thing.
    What the fuckers fail to mention is that the glacier _advanced_ between 1985 and 2009 (the year of their photo, uncoincidentally), probably from a point similar to where it is now.
    The media is so biased on this topic, it’s ridiculous, and you have to wonder if it’s unethical/fraudulent.

      Funny Niz remembering the sight of the glazier through the chapel window on several “trips to the glaziers as a boy. Our little group often included an uncle who used to visit on specific dates to record the “official” picture of the glaziers. The photo from each visit were marked with colored dotes of the changes. Interesting in static form but went to a whole new level when he and grandfather moved into Super 8 movies. With the benefit of a home made zoom device his collection was filmed with a few frames each recorded. The end result was almost as amazing as seeing old prints appear in the developer tray. The glazier receding before our very eyes colored dots and all. Amazing. All done with the official record of the time. All well before any modest recovery years later.
      The most striking aspect of the pictures taken by a casual Auckland visitor did not appear to have been taken from the same location. Unlike the official records which were taken from a tripod mounted camera centered over the same survey marker. Thus this article with a couple of snaps is little more than a snap of a snippet of history like so much selected for their narrative.

Adelaide was 39 the day we stepped off the plane, but it fell to the low 20s the next day. Aussie has always been subjected to extremes of temperature, mainly because it is such a massive country.

    A family member lives in Gippsland, Victoria, near Mt BawBaw, and the local temperature range is phenomenal.
    
    Temperatures can range from 42 C in the afternoon, 10 (or even 0) the following morning – and this even in the middle of an Oz summer!
    
    It is, of course, cause and effect, but it plays absolute havoc with temperature control; air con one day, gas fire the next.
    
    The local Gas and Electricity companies love it…

Just watched Farenheit 11/9, an interesting comparison between teachers conditions is that in West Virginia, some are paid below the poverty line (where-ever that is) and were to be forced to wear fitbits in order to qualify for healthcare (and perform the requisite number of steps each day as well). And they went against their union’s recommendation and striked for 2 weeks until they got their demands met (5% pay rise plus no fitbits).
I would be interested to know what the poverty line in various countries is, to gain some context.

  In today’s plethora of competing news and opinion, how can we judge who to trust and how can we spot the fake from the real? This site though seems to be presenting facts with an unbiased analysis, so I’ll read in future with interest.

    The sooner Trump pulls out of Nato and Germany the better.
    Americans don’t need to pay for Germany’s greed.

  Have a look at the cycle lane next time you are walking past one – they are full of broken glass, litter and chips from poorly laid roads. Plus they are so badly planned that they direct cyclists into parked cars and fast moving traffic – it’s safer to cycle outside of them. As an experienced London cyclist, I’ve hung up my helmet in Auckland as it’s too dangerous on our roads. It would actually be safer for cyclists to have NO cycling lanes.

Six children were without a mother this Christmas after a woman was found dead at a property in Matamata on Christmas Eve.

Michelle Kayla Hurinui died on Monday and a baby boy aged under 1, believed to be one of her children, was in a critical condition after the incident, police said.

A man known to the woman was taken into custody shortly after.

Paraki Edwards, 40, appeared in Hamilton District Court this morning charged with her murder.

He did not seek name suppression and was remanded in custody.

Edwards appeared solemn in the dock in a blue sweatshirt.

  In a certain Police district a long line of traffic had built up behind a caravan and the first car in the chain was a police car. A highway patrol car came up at the rear and after a couple of ks put on his lights and siren and headed to the front where he pilled over the police car and ticketed him.
  
  His reasoning was that the caravan was a hindrance but the presence of the police car was the real reason for the chain of cars in that no one was brave enough to overtake the police car and caravan.
  
  It did lead to a bit of tension between the two sections of the police.

      FWIW: After WWII had ended, and a time when ‘Conventional’ farming simply didn’t have the capacity to do the job, the British Government actively encouraged whaling operations in the sub Antarctic Ocean as a way of getting large quantities of protein into Britiish stomachs as quickly as possible, with several fornmer oil tankers being converted into ‘Mother ships’ for the purpose.
      
      ‘Meat’ was meat, was meat, and hunger had to be satisfied.
      
      Serious thought was also given to the idea of ‘farming’ whales (particularly the ‘Blue’ as it was the largest and with the most meat), especially in areas around the (then) British West Indies (Bermuda especially), but the nets (equivalent to fences on land) simply couldn’t be placed deep enough to keep the whales inside…
      
      It was an interesting time.

Very interesting the huge number of ticks on the Stuff article on Maori science education.

They all say that there is no such thing as Maori science.
That all students should be treated the same
That Maori should stop their separate schooling system and go mainstream
And that iwi should provide scholarship to Maori students.
That Maori students do not turn up for school as much as they should!
And yes, it would be good if Maori did bedda at science, and maths and english.

Education needs good solid foundations, just like building a house – reading, writing and arithmetic – work from the bottom and have an aim to achieve great heights.

Im happy to report that boxing day sales worked out well for me, got a litre of Teachers for $34.00 ,yeeee haaaaa.
