Up to 80% off gym memberships

July 4th, 2012 at 7:00 am by David Farrar

The Fitness NZ gym promo is back.

There are over half a million dollars of gym memberships available at between 40-70% subsidy, at around 100 facilities around NZ.  It’s first in first served.

Kiwiblog readers can get an additional 10% discount if you put in the special code “kiwiblog” so it’s in effect a 50-80% discount for Kiwiblog readers.

For example a 12 month membership at Cityfitness Thorndon is normally $1,305. Kiwiblog readers can get this for just $587, saving $718.

A reminder it’s for first time gym users only (or those that haven’t been a member in the last 12 months).

No taxpayer money is used with this initiative. It is 100% private sector funded. A far better way to keep or stay fit than nanny state measures.

Ride a bicycle is good , if you can or buy an Abflex: “oh no! The park is locked!” ( so he goes back home in the Hummer and orders an Abflex).

That really is a moronic thing to say.

Private gyms have there place so do council run gyms, running and cycling is cheap and there is always the option of playing a sport. Joining a gym is a tiny part of ‘fitness’, exercise has to become a lifetime habit, as does moderating what you eat and drink.

YesWeDid – I agree that there are far more fitness options available than just Gyms now a days, I have been to a few off road running events lately and the numbers are growing fast for these and multi sport events. – I think the above discounts show that the Gym industry like many others, is struggling for numbers at the moment – however they are very good rates! Vibra-Train is my preferred work-out choice especially good for time poor people like me

How are those gun going DPF? you’re looking remarkably svelte these days. You could have a very powerful build if you use all the various squats/deadlifts/kettlebell variations. Hope your trainer is onto it if you have one.

Ah phil. My man phil. The man hisself phil. It’s not as simple as that, at all at all at all. Bike riding is better then nothing, for sure, but there’s a little more too it.

It’s pretty easy not to eat when food=drugs. I imagine your continual and long sustained intake has quelled the ‘munchies’ impulses.

You almost certainly smoke ciggies as well, probably. See what happens to your gut gut when you stop smoking the tabaccy at least.

My man phil! keeping it real on kiwiblog since too long aye bro? Are you drug emaciated chic?

Great initiative DPF. You da man as per usual!!!

oh well I’ll give you that, I know it’s not easy to avoid the double of weed AND ciggies – so good work on that score.

I’m a teetotaller largely. The most I’ll have is an old dark with the old man on a deck when we get the chance and the odd cider or single glass of very fruity wine with a lady friend very occasionally.

Good man for not mixing drugs and alcohol, and I’m gratified to know you can eat well on the benefit, thanks for dispelling that myth.. :)

You’ve just got the one to go now… I know weed is a way to manage depression, but there are other ways bro. Not saying you’re depressed or anything, you probably just like the feeling, but yeah you can get the feeling without drugs by accomplishing some things. It’s a shame, I’ve seen weed really affect people I know.

Oh well. As I say on another thread, if you were to get a job to provide some capital for your website, and maybe look at an IT qualification/business diploma, I’d help you out with your website. I’m sure some other guys on here would too.

I have a day off today. I was supposed to be teacher aiding this morning and stone masoning in the afternoon. But it looks like I’ll have to just study profs instead coz the weathers packed it in and the kids aren’t doing their special fishing trip.

It depends on what you’re after as to whether a gym is worthwhile. I personally prefer riding a bike (although it’s been a few months), as all I really want is to be relatively fit and healthy. For me, fitness means mainly cardiovascular fitness, which I can get from riding a bike. Others may want a more structured all-round workout, concentrating on body development or strength for a particular sport or leisure activity.

To each his (or her) own.

thanks for yr offer…i’ve been thinking about crowd-sourcing some funding…

..do you know much about that…?

..i figured that zeal-audit showing nearly 21,000 other websites linking to me..

..and the body of work..(approx 56,000 stories/links in searchengine..might help with that..

(and i guess i could do a mildly interesting back-story..)

..also that i am not talking about a concept/idea..

..i am talking something that can be gone and looked at..

..yr thoughts on that wd be appreciated..

(and back on topic…i don’t just cycle..i walk dogs…and do a daily (light) routine with dumbells…

..and sit-ups..when i can be bothered..)

Oh god, zeal, really? Meh, come on phil, is that really it? Whats your exit strategy? How are you monetising? How are you going to pay the taxpayer back if and when you do?

21,000 sites, and you will most likely find 20,500 of them are bot linkers. Hence why you dont bother with zeal, I lol’d

And its not a “body of work” Its links to others work. Where is YOUR value add? Other than posting on here, whats the value you bring?

Just think, you could have tapped in to some of the brains around here. Me, Im selling my first at the moment – site, not son – and starting my second, with my soon to be teenaged son. He has a very good grip of what it takes to make a business successful.

Oh, and “and do a daily (light) routine with dumbells” is no way to talk about your friends.

Sounds like a perfectly good idea. Why should others pay for fatties to gorge themselves and then depend on rate/taypayers to fund their bad choices. Private money wins for me every time.
