  How can you (reportedly) hold a job as a civil servant and find the time to comment here day and night? I mean how do you manage 31000 comments and do your job that you are paid for, let alone all of life’s other demands?

    I knew a guy who worked for the old Housing NZ during the Labour govt.
    
    He was in their Internal Comms department. There were 14 of them apparently, he reckoned 4 of them could have done all of the work, and his in-tray was usually clear by morning tea time. So for the rest of the day he was pretty much free to surf the net and work on his own projects – as long as he had work on his screen and looked busy whenever one of the supervisors came by.

In much the same way Helen Clark rooted Air NZ shares in a week and gave us the opportunity to X5 invest. I do like Labour sometimes.

  I look back with great fondness to when Labour in concert with the Greens and NZF talked down the value of MRP (now Mercury) and Meridien shares prior to partial privatisation with threats of nationalisation. It enabled me and thousands of other small investors to buy far more shares than we otherwise had planned on.
  
  The real bummer though was that the political machinations of Labour and their mates cost the NZ public the equivalent of a couple of new hospitals or half a dozen new schools.

And where are the epidemics among the old timers who may have been vaxed decades ago for whom any protection will have long since disappeared? They dont seem to get such diseases.       I’ve just paid for a new boat sweetheart, and am in the UK to check it out before it heads to NZ, receiving a boat is a very complicated thing. But otherwise not terribly interested in what you have to say. I am looking for a cook though, you any good?

Yes – a bit weak really.

I’m sure it was attributed to the poll.

But the markets can be awfully dumb at times. For instance, the market’s tanked when it was clear that Trump was elected, now they’re riding high and still going on full afterburners with the economy as strong as it’s been in ages, illegal immigration falling and more Americans finding work.

Not that for one second am I saying that Taxcinda would achieved anything other than a massive fiscal blackhole, zero growth and erosion of capital value. As much as she may be flattered by the comparison to Trump, it stops dead at the immigration issue, she wants to MNZPA (Make NZ Poor Again)

A little parable:

It’s a slow day in a little Scottish town. The sun is beating down, and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a rich tourist from down south is driving through town. He stops at the motel and lays a £50 note on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

As soon as the man walks upstairs, the owner grabs the note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the £50 and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the £50 and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmer’s Co-op takes the £50 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her “services” on credit.

The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.

The hotel proprietor then places the £50 back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the £50 note, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.

No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that, folks, is how the National Party has run the country for the last 9 years…

  Oh, that’s right, we had a National govt. that understood economics which enables people to prosper, and at the same time enable the society to look after those who are less fortunate, or less willing to bend their backs.

  National knows how to cope with them, Labour would have to entirely rely on the experts already put in place by National.
  Oh and as for politicising Pike River, what a shame that the families let themselves be used like that.

  I lived in Blackball for a while in the late 8o’s, lovely little place, one of the old timers that I spoke to gave me the flag from the march when Labour was born, (catchy that) I hope that the Hilton Hotel has kept it safe after I gave it to them.
  I probably didn’t appreciate the significance of what it was, I was in my late 20’s at the time, but nobody else had cared about it either.

  Internal churn – the money goes down and around, as you say.
  NZ gets rich when goods are exported and debt is reduced.
  NZ becomes poorer when more goods are imported than exports can pay for, or when the interest on money borrowed is greater than the amount of export income earned can pay for.
  Well, that’s my simplistic take on it anyway.

  True Manolo. That is a strong possibility. A Labour Government could manage that by Christmas and you know how fast the oil companies push their prices up. You wont find them saying that at The Standard though so the troll will miss that.

Having got past all the trolls thanks DPF and we seem to use the same app for monitoring monetary values.
It was always a moment of panic when the Media party shouted about a slump in the NZ dollar. They never seem so excited about upward movements and missed the one you singled out.

We see from the trolls they have no awareness or comprehension of the money markets. We see how well exports compete so well above NZ$0.71/US$1 as well as tourists satisfaction in the exchange rate.

Suspect you will also be familiar with the exchange rate band the money markets expect the NZ$ to trade in. Hence the indication of the latest poll of the stabile Government being continued immediately restored confidence in our currency. You will also understand the importance of such confidence in a market where so many currencies lack that benefit.
